Fantastic experience: Dropped school children off for their swimming lessons!

Negative experience: Review of Brighouse Fitness Centre Brighouse Fitness Centre has a good range of equipment, and the gym itself is usually quite empty, making it easy to get through a workout without waiting around for machines. The facility is well-maintained, and the equipment is in good condition, which is a major plus for anyone looking for a straightforward, effective place to train. However, the check-in process is a real drawback. They require you to pre-book your gym sessions if you want immediate entry. If you don’t book ahead, you’ll end up waiting in a long line, only to be met by young, inexperienced staff who often lack basic knowledge of the system. They can be slow and sometimes unhelpful, making the check-in process far more frustrating than it needs to be. Overall, I wouldn’t train here if it weren’t so close to my workplace. For a place with such low foot traffic, the inconvenient check-in setup is likely one of the reasons it’s so empty.

Positive experience: Staff are very friendly. I have found the gym and changing rooms clean and well kept and a good variety of equipment .Not used the pool yet but so far so good. Keep up the good work

Negative experience: Pool is cold and the gym well 3 treadmills out of order for 2 weeks now and a few other machines. So 7 treadmills altogether but only 4 work so long waits to use them... This is unfair on everyone we pay to use the facilities and get little back of late , the place needs better maintenance staff to get stuff fixed quickly or replaced asap

Positive experience: Visited for the first time yesterday the pool is ok. Just a rectangle, nothing special. For a new facility I was surprised how broken a lot of y was. Turnstiles out of order, lockers open with no keys, toilets flooded and with a constant flush. Note to calderdale council you can't just build something you have to maintain it.

Negative experience: Parking woeful, never any room for members to get parked and if you dare to put it against the fence you will get a fine, one to avoid.

Positive experience: The amount of classes on offer with a membership is great but one thing that bothers me is how cold the swimming pool actually is. Whenever I take my 2 year old to Aquatots, he leaves physically shaking and with blue lips. I have seen several children in the same way after a 30 minute lesson and one time, even the instructor commented on it! Is it possible to increase the temperature of the pool so that our children can learn to swim in a more enjoyable environment? We would go every week if it was warmer!

Negative experience: Gym was busy and the older woman behind counter was rude and disrespectful if they want customers to be happy they shouldn't have rude women behind the counter this issue has really made me fall out with the gym.

Positive experience: Nice gym, nice and clean and staff seem friendly. But the car park is just a pain. There are never any spaces and it’s far too small especially if you’re going after work, it actually puts me off going at times

Positive experience: Far better than Kirklees' facilities. The staff are polite, welcoming, and helpful! That makes such a difference to the overall atmosphere, compared to other facilities in the area. The pools are a reasonable temperature and the locker/changing rooms are usually very clean. Unfortunately the showers can be temperamental in temperature, but I think that's being worked on. There's good availability for public swims, unlike many other pools in the area. My only real issues are with the car park, it's quite small. I know that's not really something that can be helped, but it's badly laid out and I feel like some people park in there when they're not going into the fitness centre. I regularly have to drive around waiting for a space to open up, which means I sometimes miss the first part of the swim session. The other reason I can't give it 5 stars is because they don't take cash. It's card only, which is a little annoying. I prefer to pay by cash for a few reasons. The lockers require a pound coin to work anyway, so I have to take both card and cash. I would probably get a membership and use the gym facilities as well, if they were open a bit longer, but I would barely be able to use it with the current opening hours, which is a shame.

Positive experience: Good parking and good range of classes just disappointing that opens at 7am so no chance to go before work. Most gyms open at 6am

Negative experience: Pool often closed midweek for school swimming lessons. Gym equipment is good, but opening hours are limited, opens later and closes earlier than most Gyms. Upstairs changing rooms not cleaned as often as they need to be and are sometimes dirty. At times the gym is full of school kids in large groups, hanging around the machines, preventing others from using them and acting silly in the changing rooms with no supervision. A policy change is required.

Negative experience: Nice relaxed gym, clean and not too busy can always get on the machines, if you can get a parking that is!

Positive experience: Great facilities in general. The gym could do with some touching up.

The temperature of the water however is on the cool side for babies and i had to come out before I really wanted to as my grandson had blue lips. Would be useful if it could be a little warmer as other facilities in the area are.

Negative experience: Water was freezing my son wouldn’t get in so was a waste of money and my daughter wouldn’t stay in for long as was shivering only warm water was the showers and the changing rooms were dirty and stunk badly of urine won’t be returning here

Positive experience: Good gym, lots of equipment to use but as I love the classes, unfortunately there just aren't enough available and the ones that are often get booked up so quick you don't get to go. Wish there were more of the popular classes out of 9-5 times and on weekends

Positive experience: Facilities are quite good and it's well priced. However, dry changing rooms are always filthy, the showers definitely don't get mopped daily. Currently a hole in the ceiling above the only working shower in the women's changing rooms. Very dusty in the gym and since the end of COVID restrictions it's got worse. Very few people wipe the equipment down after use and the staff don't seem bothered. It's taken nearly 3 years to get all the treadmills working at the same time which is ridiculous. If there was a pure gym in Brighouse, I'd go there instead.

Fantastic experience: Clean, nice pool ,hot showers, Smallish lockers ,you need £1 refundable .pretty busy .uni sex changing ,need to remove out door shoes to go on changing room . Some great classes but you need to be quick to get in .fancy new kit with videos so you can cycle in the Alps or run in the country side

Fantastic experience: Took my 6yr old grandson swimming in the smaller pool which is actually a decent size and depth. The main pool is also a good size and there are plenty of schedules to pick from, for example lane swimming times family swim times, etc. Changing rooms are well maintained with lots of cubicles and plenty of lockers available.

Positive experience: Grest place for a swim. Changing rooms and toilet areas are clean and lifeguards are on the ball about unacceptable behaviour. Marked down for parking, the bays are small and are there's limited number of spaces.

Positive experience: Not a bad swimming pool although they were some kids throwing a ball from one side to another getting in the way of people swimming and life guards didn't bother saying anything to them

Negative experience: The upstairs changing rooms are filthy! The same dirt on the floor from 3 days earlier! My partner spoke with the duty manager who was very rude and told me there was more than one duty manager! And she couldn’t check the male changing rooms as she was female, however they have a female cleaner that cleans them while they are open. Definitely raise any concerns if you use this place as there are a lot of issues that are easily resolvable, including the customer service, you don’t even get a morning when you walk in and queues are bad with only one machine working and the staff can’t be bothered to check you in as they are on their personal mobile phones, unless the council provide reception staff with work mobiles!………
