Our comment from FitFit UK about Barry's St Paul's:
Barry's St Paul's, located in London, United Kingdom, offers an exceptional fitness experience in a modern and well-designed facility. Here are some highlighted aspects:
- Great Atmosphere: Many users love the family-like environment and friendly vibes from the trainers, making workouts enjoyable.
- Clean and Spacious: The studio features clean, spacious changing rooms and a well-laid-out workout area, with rain showers providing an excellent post-workout experience.
- Excellent Instructors: The trainers, especially Klaudia, are highly praised for their motivation and ability to provide effective workouts. Many users report significant gains while attending their classes.
- Variety of Classes: The mix of high-intensity interval training and unique workout formats caters to diverse fitness levels and preferences.
- Tasty Shakes: The smoothies offered post-workout are favorites among attendees, contributing to an overall positive experience.
However, there are some areas noted for improvement:
- Customer Service Issues: Some visitors have reported unpleasant experiences with front desk staff, describing them as rude or unhelpful at times, which detracts from the overall gym experience.
- Class Duration: A number of users expressed dissatisfaction with the reduced class length of 50 minutes, suggesting that more one-hour classes would enhance the offering for clients.
- Space Constraints: Notably, the changing rooms can be cramped during peak times, and some users found it challenging to hear instructions during classes, especially for beginners.
Overall, Barry's St Paul's remains a popular choice for fitness enthusiasts looking for high-quality classes and a supportive community, with ongoing initiatives to improve customer service and experience.
Barry's St Paul's: Opinions
Fantastic experience: One of the best Barry's spots. Missing a few to say the best one. Red room with air con and fans. Not the biggest one but well designed. Machines are not the newest (new ones in Belgravia)
Thanks for the feedback! We appreciate all feedback so we can take this and make sure we are still your fave place to work out.
Positive experience: The rudest front desk I have ever had the misfortune of interacting with at barry’s. Lovely trainers and an amazing workout as per usual but the front desk at this studio is particularly miserable specifically the passive aggressive blonde girl with short hair. I am forced to wonder how a barry’s newbie would feel if this was their first class and studio. Definitely, not very welcomed or enthusiastic. A gentle reminder that front desk is quite literally there for the client experience and the role is dependent on this, not the opposite. If you’re not happy to interact with clients and simply want to sit behind the desk scanning everybody up and down - there are other roles better suited to this behaviour. Perhaps, this member of staff assumes that this is the “vibe” of front desk when in actuality it is not and the majority of barry’s front desk is lovely, respectful and sweet. Front desk is not an opportunity to showcase a generally miserable attitude. This girl definitely needs a conversation from management or she will attempt to ice out more clients in the future. Luckily, I can excuse her misery and identify her projection, but perhaps a new client will not.
Thankyou for reaching out and we would like to apoligise for you recent experience. Could you please contact us at [email protected] for us to speak with you further on this.
Fantastic experience: The best place for a hitt class
Fantastic experience: Definitely my 2nd favourite of the Barry’s gyms. Great layout with good changing rooms & gym.
Thanks for the feedback!
Negative experience: I booked, turned up, then realised I could not do the session that day. The class had not started yet and I explained I’d made a mistake. The desk refused to give my credit back and I had to wait over an hour to speak to their Head of Client Experience who reluctantly gave back the class. I then emailed customer service to let them know of this experience but got no response until I chased several times and then got no apology, which is all I was really looking for as I had been using Barry’s for 5 years and spent quite a bit to do so. Not great customer service.
Sorry to hear about your recent experience! I understand you’ve been in contact with our head office on this. We always strive to the best part of our clients day and we will be looking into this and how to grow from it.
Positive experience: Nice studio, only issue is the changing room and space outside the class is a bit tight. Nice staff and good class but those things let them down.
Thanks for the feedback!
Fantastic experience: It’s a great gym. They treat you like family here and I always have such a great time here. Lloyd and Justin are just amazing and so very helpful. Plus they always have the best smoothies here! Highly recommend it’s just amazing!
We adore having your George!
Positive experience: Did a class here and feeling quite mixed. In terms of what I liked: - good music, quite motivational - good amount of space on the floor. A lot of group workouts in London are too crowded but even though there were a lot of people it was fine - difficult, and high intensity. Which I like in a class. Dislikes: - very hard to hear anything so challenging for a beginner. Spent most of the class frantically looking around to see what others are doing. - not very attentive instructor, though I guess this depends. I had Honey and I found her cold and not very attentive. - super cold. I don’t normally workout in such cold spaces with a ton of air con (yes, even in the winter) so maybe I need to get used to it but I found it very unpleasant. - class didn’t start on time and finished late. I think I will try a few other instructors to see if there are better ones, but would not recommend a Monday class with Honey if you are still quite new to this workout like me. I did a class before with another instructor which was much better, though still was hard to hear instructors.
thanks for the feedback and we will be taking this on board.
Fantastic experience: Traveling from NY and decided to get a workout in. Highly recommend, everyone is so nice and the class was fun. The shakes were also great!
Thanks for the feedback!
Negative experience: Great trainers but the personnel at the desk ruin the whole experience. Completely disorganised, takes ages for a shake, same for check-in. And as most of the reviews here point out, they are by far the rudest among all Barry’s. Also, it’s crazy that in 2024 you can’t check-in online…
Thankyou so much for your feedback and we will be reaching out to our management team on this. Barry's is big on community so online check in would take away from our overall goal of creating spaces where you can work out and spend time, We have obviously missed the mark on this occasion and will be looking into this.
Positive experience: Amazing shakes, but customer service could do with some help. I’ve been there a handful of times and each time (except for one lady on front of house) barely cracked a smile or made eye contact. They genuinely give the impression that you are an inconvenience to dare ask and pay for a shake! Very bizarre customer service - love the shakes but I won’t be back, the service is too icy (that will probably make front of house staff very happy anyway!!) Maybe it’s because I’m not a member…yet? Who knows! Anyway guys it wouldn’t hurt to be a little bit more approachable.
We would like to apologise and we will speak to management on where to improve on this.
Fantastic experience: So far never found a better workout place!
Positive experience: Good workout. Ladies changing very cramped with not enough showers and mirrors at peak times.
Fantastic experience: Amazing location and programme.
Fantastic experience:
Fantastic experience: First time here, and I must say I was skeptical but you need to believe the hype. George was a total gem of a class leader - made sure I knew what was going on and checked in on me every so often. If you want a serious, sweaty workout - treat yourself!
Positive experience: Standard cookie cutter Barry’s class. Diva front of house but you get what you pay for
Fantastic experience: We went to Barry’s London for the first time and had sooo much fun. The studio and the shower was clean and the staff and Trainer where so helpful and friendly. We had a great workout on Sunday early morning and our trainer gave everything even after a pride party night. We got a free protein shake after our class which tasted amazing. We are definitely coming back.
Can't wait to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: So much fun! Not the toughest workout, but loved the treadmill in the mix. Coach was welcoming and fun and the facility was great.
Fantastic experience: Love this studio; every instructor has been excellent but Vitor and Chay in particular are so motivational and always keep it fun with great music. Women’s changing room can get very cramped / busy but facilities are great on the whole. Showers are great. Front desk are always friendly and lovely.
Fantastic experience: I do LIFT at Barry's Soho, and I've now started to come to Barry's St. Paul's for Klaudia's Red Room classes because she's my favourite instructor and the best I've ever had at Barry's. She's one of the very few instructors who knows how to run both a Red Room class and a LIFT class - and she runs them both brilliantly. They're quite different, and she gets it. The Red Room is more cardio-intensive whilst LIFT focuses on benchmark moves using heavy weights. But you can still get a really good workout in the Red Room by doing double-floor and lifting as heavy as poss - or by braving a double-treadmil workout if you've got Klaudia's cardio-strength of a racehorse!!! If you pay attention to her in class, you'll hear that she always gives good tips to improve your technique, and they do work. I've made gains going to Klaudia's classes. Sure, I'm lifting heavy, but I haven't made as many gains with other instructors as I have with Klaudia, so she obviously knows her stuff. The bonus is that she's got great taste in music and a fantastic personality to match, so you're bound to come out of her class feeling uplifted (even if you are mashed from her programme). So, it's thanks to Klaudia that I've increased my rating from 4 to 5 stars for Barry's St. Paul's because she's a total babe and an absolute gem of an instructor.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic workout! Amazing how the instructors can coordinate and incorporate 2 workout sessions into 1 to give you the full body experience
Positive experience: I have been to Barry’s 100 times and this is the worst experience at St Paul’s. We ordered two shakes after the class (sorry we were in a rush and didn’t pre order) but the staff was really slow and he rather prepare all the shakes for the next class, which is 50 mins away from finishing. We have to wait for 20 mins to get two very easy shakes. Really don’t understand. Soho is the best!
Hey Yibin, We apologise for your delayed shake service and will feedback to get this improved.
Fantastic experience: Best work out in the world indeed! The staff are always friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is just amazing, great location and easy to get to.
Fantastic experience: Great workout. Clean modern facilities. Friendly team.
Fantastic experience: Lovely studio, plenty of space. You have to book early if you want the 7am classes on a weekday- but I guess that is kinda the point!
Fantastic experience: I like going to St. Paul’s because it doesn’t feel as busy as other studios and it’s more intimate (read: small facilities). You have to be smart to get into a shower but it’s worth it. The workout is great as are the shakes!
Fantastic experience: Ask Justin to make your shake
Fantastic experience: The best workout in town
Negative experience: Sandy Macaskill is a rude man, needs some therapy or something as I think that man has a problem. Everyone else at Barrys are a delight to deal with.
Hey John, we would love to speak with you about this further. If you could email [email protected] we can look into this with more detail with you. Thanks Barry's
Fantastic experience: Honestly the best place to go if you want a really hard but rewarding workout
Fantastic experience: Very nice studio and the golden-themed men's changing room is great - best "power shower" in terms of water pressure I've had at a Barry's yet! Would go here more often but 50-minute classes on weekdays aren't my preference.
Fantastic experience: I love this Barry's studio! Kofi was my instructor today and he did an amazing job keeping us motivated, giving clear demos on the floor and making us smile through the pain. The locker room was the nicest Barry's locker room I've ever experienced. The showers are rain showers with amazing water pressure and the entire space is a esthetically pleasing and laid out well. The service was also excellent! The front desk team and manager were both friendly and went above and beyond to help me!
Fantastic experience: Best workout with massive calorie burn.
Positive experience: Great classes!
Fantastic experience: Best workout in the city
Fantastic experience: Barry's is, hands-down, the best workout I've ever done; my team did a class as a fitness/team-building activity before an all-day offsite, and it was fantastic. Barry's is the best!
Fantastic experience: Good!
Fantastic experience: Great instructors and front of house staff. Always friendly and helpful. Best workout in London!!
Fantastic experience: I love it
Fantastic experience: Now that all the Barry's gyms in London offer 50 minute classes only, I think it's fair to cut the St. Paul's studio a break as that seems to be the biggest complaint from previous commenters. The instructors here are amazing, the locker rooms are spacious, everything is so clean. It's always a very smooth experience. The staff take COVID-19 protocols very seriously and everyone is very good about wearing a mask.
Fantastic experience: Top notch facilities both for training and otherwise. The staff are kind, friendly and welcoming and the instructors push you to leave it all in the Red Room.
Fantastic experience: Love this place. Really lovely studio, great showers and changing space. Hopefully they'll get some 60min workouts on there, but 50min is still super intense!
Fantastic experience: Exactly what it says on the tin - the best workout in the world.
Positive experience: The studio is amazing (obv since it’s brand new) and I like especially the larger changing rooms. However, what I consider a big negative is that all classes only run for 50min (besides weekend). Clearly the city is an office area and many people have limited time but so is canary wharf and classes still run for the full 60min with the exception of lunch classes. I think there should be more 60min classes offered or alternative Barry’s shouldn’t charge the same price for an almost 20% shorter class. Trainers as always top notch!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing Barry's. The best yet! The red room is a great size and loving all the new equipment. Classes have been incredible. Changing rooms so spacious too with all the essentials you need. The team there so super friendly and welcoming too. Best work out experience you can find in London. Cannot recommend enough!
Fantastic experience: Best workout in the world adds another fabulous studio in London
Negative experience: Someone was on my booked spot, so I was told to take another one, then at the switchover I was left with no spot again. I left the class to tell reception why I had had to leave the class part way through, and they said they wouldnt refund me, but would only interrupt the class to tell the person on my spot they had to leave instead. I didnt want to interrupt the class to do that, as it felt very awkward, so I left with no refund. Very bad customer service .
Negative experience: Poor service. Disappointing
Fantastic experience: First ever experience of Barry's this evening and I was really impressed! Great facilities and class length and I'm looking forward to doing more classes in the future
Fantastic experience: Ouh la la! Barry’s, you’ve treated us! Massive changing rooms with big lockers. Massive red room with brand new stuff. Nice staff as usual, our favorite instructors (incl. Samuel, Chris, Jason and more!). Great location and 50 min is fine!! (I see some not very Barrys spirit comments above!) Would definitely recommend!
Negative experience: Very disappointed with the new branch. I was genuinely looking forward to the opening, as it’s super close to my work, only to learn the duration of each class has been reduced to 50 mins - I heard from BB’s staff that it’s to do with the nature of customers they’re expecting - office professionals. Well here’s the truth- Canary Wharf is no different, so is Barry’s east - people still find time to squeeze in a full hour. I wish they had ask potential customers before making a decision to cut down on time. It’s £23 too . Not impressed at all, definitely won’t be making a switch or recommending it to any of my friends.
