Negative experience: This gym is terrible, the opening hours are tragic, and anymore than 20 people in the gym there’s no point going as it’s so small with barely any machines, the weights room is tiny, to charge people from £30 a month is daylight robbery, idk where they got the name better gym as it really isn’t as pure gym offers a lot more for a lot less per month

Fantastic experience: Michelle McIlveen (Fitness Manager) consistently goes above and beyond to make members feel welcome. The Xmas coffee and breakfast bap morning was just the ticket after Kamil's spin and HIIT classes. It got members engaged and just demonstrated a proper sense of community that Connswater Better Gym has.

Positive experience: Great value for money, love Brona and Tony’s power pump classes. Would be great if the mat workout area (for abs etc) was bigger so it doesn’t fill up so quickly!

Negative experience: Only 2 rowing machines.

Positive experience: This was a good gym in 2018 but fast forward to 2023 and a lot of the equipment is getting a bit dated and /or broken. An example is that both the skill mills are missing parts on the handles for at least a year. None of the machines seem to have internet connectivity for connecting the machines to the technogym Mywellness app. This creates a poor user experience for people who use the official technogym apps. At over 9k a pop for several of the machines you’d expect that to be set up properly. Men’s changing room has some issues . I also find that the weights area is dominated by a small number of meatheads who slam plates down unnecesarily to try and look ‘manly’. Read the room, if nobody else is doing it then there’s probably a reason. It’s ok if you’re doing a lift that actually requires a drop, but not if you’re just moving a plate around. Coffee area is a good idea. Vending machine has been poorly stocked all week. Just sugary Powerade (14g of sugar per serving, no thanks. ) and some cans of dodgy energy drink. Staff are relatively friendly. I do like that the gates aren’t permanently open like some other better gyms in the area. If I’ve paid to get in then I don’t like seeing other people just walk through an open gate (cough cough lisnasharragh & templemore) . Tvs in front of the cardio gear are a good destraction. Music depends on your taste. Personally I don’t mind dance music while training, but headphones are fine if you don’t like that. You can’t expect everyone else to like the same music as you. Parking in the mornings is relatively easy. At peak shopping times it can get a bit crazy thanks to being among other large businesses and facing a few drive throughs nearby. Opening hours are decent (early and late). Most modern gyms in Belfast and county Down have stair Climber machines but Connswater doesn’t for some reason.

Fantastic experience: Went here for the first time to use the sauna and steam room. Great facilities, friendly, helpful staff. Clean showers and changing rooms. A few private, curtained off changing areas too. Hairdryers available

Fantastic experience: Great gym. All gear is in good condition. Like all gyms, it has its busy times but mid morning is quiet. No ‘screamers’ in lifting. Steam and Sauna are both hot as well! Spotless gym (good job Tim!)

Fantastic experience: Joined this gym a few years ago and it's one of the best gyms around. Staff are helpful, friendly and encouraging. Plenty of equipment and spotless. It has done much to improve my physical and emotional wellbeing.

Fantastic experience: I love this gym. I hadn't been to a gym in over 20 years and took the plunge last August to get in shape. I was very conscious about my size and lack of fitness knowledge, but needn't be as the staff there were fantastic and made me feel at ease. Nikki took me through the gym equipment in detail... she was brilliant and professional. The staff are always friendly and they have time for you if you have any queries on gym equipment. I feel very safe here. Also, the staff keep the gym very clean. The gym is very large with a good selection of equipment. Free tea, coffee and water available. There is an excellent selection of fitness classes held upstairs in the studio...... spin classes held downstairs. The website lists the classes available. Very large and and clean changing rooms with showers, lockers (hairdryers in ladies changing rooms). In addition, a large car park just outside in the main retail park. Great gym, great staff.

Fantastic experience: The best. This place has changed my life!!! Staff are amazing and variety of classes are 10/10. Out of all the Better Gyms in Belfast this is my personal favourite. The room where are the classes take place is quite separated from the gym floor so you’re not hearing the loud boots and cats music pumping outside lol, when you’re doing yoga I prefer hearing the calming music the teacher plays. Walls are also lined with mirrors which help when you’re trying to concentrate getting your moves right. Julie who does combat and Pilates is a one in a million lady. Really encourages and pushes you to your limits, and most importantly, makes sure you have fun!!! Connswater Better Gym also is always in a pristine condition. Very well looked after. Super range of exercise machines downstairs. Changing rooms are large. I feel safe here. Also there’s free tea and coffee! Never an issue with parking because the retail park is so large. Also has bike racks outside and Belfast Bikes are so nearby too! So all in all it’s very accessible for all. I’m yet to really adventure into the gym floor because I’m loving the classes so much!!! Thank you guys.

Negative experience: Fine if you are using gym or classes, however there’s an evident lack of maturity / decency among some of the “gym bro” calibre PT’s. Paying the guts of £500 for personal training won’t prevent you from being made a fool of by being the brunt of some big joke among the bro’s that forget they have a girlfriend as soon as they start their shift.

The atmosphere is so electrifying in some classes and it gives you the drive to come back again and again and be fit even more. Some new machines on the gym floor. Over all a great friendly atmosphere gym.

There’s a wide range of different classes throughout each day that are so easy to book online, and I can come and go as often or as little as I like. Really enjoy the classes, the instructors are very professional and motivational, mostly Nicky and Michael!

Fantastic experience: Brilliant gym and staff are so helpful and friendly. Facilities are great and I used the new virtual facility on the relax and stretch program. I was by myself but one of the staff showed me how to use it and I found it amazing. Hoping to try out another program soon.I love the steam room and sauna and the aromatherapy room is not to be missed.Can't wait until my next visit.

Negative experience: Were do I start with this place • Broken showers • Lack of clips for cable machines • Moronic customers that cannot put their weights back so you have to go searching for them • one of the smallest weight areas I have seen in any gym • they do classes in the middle of the gym that is so irritating as they take up a lot of space in an already small gym I only use this gym because of discount otherwise it would be a ripoff for what it is.

Positive experience: Overall great gym and friendly staff. Large plus for sauna and steam sauna. Though mostly cardio equipment. Could be minimal improvements, some weird smell always in steam sauna (no big deal) and could get some water bucket to sauna (too hot sitting down when dry). Some lockers are broken but not many. Either way it's great gym.

Negative experience: Some showers broken. I have seen a clothe peg at top of a shower used to stop moving a wall of it. Half of lockers can't lock. An aroma therapy room not working. Not so much space at a gym. Wifi sometimes doesn't work.Charge 30£ for this is too much.

Positive experience: A gym is a gym, right? Wrong! This is an energetic, enthusiastic, motivating hub. It's clean and fresh and has new equipment. The staff are great and the PT's are amazing. Well, at least, mine is!!!

Fantastic experience: Good gym. I used to go here for a few years then suffered a back injury and had to take a break for a while. A year on and it’s improved even more. Good facilities, great staff although the booking system for classes has become quite confusing, although I will get this sorted hopefully the next time I’m in. Better than most gyms and flexible in being able to offer a wide range of classes no matter what time of day .
