NRG Gym Manchester: Opinions
Negative experience: its got everything you need, enough space & equipment for anyone who trains. Even film friendly for any upcoming PTs or coaches. In contrast, the gym isn’t very clean, girls toilets went for so long with only 1 toilet barely having tissue & the smell from either the men’s or disabled toilets (not sure which one) can be smelt from quite some distance sometimes. Residue from people’s heads are left on benches & dust bunny’s gather up in the corners. Weights are scattered everywhere and members etiquette has gone out the window - as a smaller girl than most of the men that train there I should not be putting 100+ kgs away for you. Also, it’s a headache to cancel - I signed up in person and wasn’t made aware you need 30 days before you cancel and if you cancel through your bank/direct debit company - you’re charged an admission fee from the company on top of the membership fee. (I did not and will not be paying this - contact the direct debit company to cancel your admission fee). Trained here for the past few months 4-5x a week and this was just my experience. Update: even though you cancel payments through the direct debit company NRG still won’t actually cancel your membership (been going back and forth on email and they won’t cancel it)

Fantastic experience: NRG is excellent—very friendly staff, plenty of space, and a great selection of machines. While it can get crowded, it’s always clean, and the sauna is a fantastic bonus compared to PureGym. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: NRG Academy is the best gym I’ve been to in Manchester. It boasts excellent equipment and outstanding professionals, such as Michell and Kangwa, who are always welcoming on the gym floor. And PT Bruna, who is not only incredibly dedicated, attentive and friendly, but also leads the best spinning class in Manchester. I highly recommend it.

Fantastic experience: Best Gym in Manchester. The equipment is top notch and always being added to, for example, there is a new boxing room complete with may heavy bags. The Functional area is great and there are many areas for Olympic Weightlifting. The biggest draw of this Gym though is all of the awesome staff members, who are always helpful, and on hand for any questions you may have. For anyone who is interested in Boxing, Kangwa will put you through your paces!

Negative experience: I’ve been a member for over a month now and have been regularly attending the gym between 5-8pm weekdays. The gym has some good facilities however the door to enter and exit is always busy and you have to wait to get in and out most days! I use the ladies gym mostly and this is one of the main reasons I joined the gym however I’m always have to wait to get onto machines. One stair master is not enough neither are 3 treadmills. The gym seems to have more members than it can handle. It’s so frustrating as I’m normally, only able to commit to an hour a day and in that hour if I’m waiting 10-20 mins for equipment there is no point. I have had to resort to the main area a few times but the stair masters there are always busy too. They’ve added an extra rowing machine to ladies section when this is was not needed. An additional stair master would have been better and would resolve the issue.

Positive experience: Things that I like and things that need improving or work on. Things I like - lots of equipment and space to workout - boxing area - lots of cardio to choose from - staff seem friendly Improvements - cleaning stations for machines - open the sauna at 6am or earlier for people to use with a staff member to observe ect. - air freshener in toilets - have equipment fixed or notes on when it will be fixed, same with the entry point up the stairs. I do recommend the gym to others and you can definitely get a workout in, just be cautious of the things stated as if you like to use the sauna before work or other things in the morning this wouldn't be suitable.
Hello Jayden and thank you for the feedback and recommending us to others. With some of the points you bring up we do have various cleaning stations in each zone around the gym, a member of staff would be happy to point out to you where they are when you are next in. Regarding your points staff are set around the period of the day we have the highest volume of members and therefore assistance would be needed and as for Air freshener we do use them in the changing rooms and gym during the checks and walk around perhaps we can review doing this more regular. Finally we do at all times place signs on any out of order equipment and have them logged for repair aiming for the quickest turn around which at the moment has been about 2 - 4 days. There are of course instances where the time delay is out of our hands as we are reliant on the time available from the repair company we do always chase and have things back in order ASAP within our means and capability. Should you have any further questions please don't hesitate to come and speak to management at the office who would be happy to answer any queries.
Negative experience: Not sure if poem giving 5 stars have been to many gyms but this gym is the worst I’ve ever been too. Yes it’s a big gym but it’s managed poorly, it’s DIRTY! For the size nowhere near enough cleaning takes place it’s filthy! Equipment breaks and takes ages to fix, not enough bars, not enough clips for the cable machines. After being there for 2 weeks the entrance turn styles broke, remained broken for the entire time I stayed a as a member. I’ve moved and the difference, yes it’s smaller but it’s clean, it’s brighter, everything is very well maintained and well lit. NRG, is poor in comparison. Save your money go elsewhere. I’ve been to enough gyms in my life and this ranks at the bottom. No idea who is leaving these reviews they clearly have no idea!

Positive experience: The gym is fine the machines are adequate. I like the selection of energy drinks in the fridge which are reasonably priced. Music very repetitive in the morning, same old rap music, could do with putting some 80s music on and mixing it up a little bit.

Negative experience: The doors been broken for months!
Hi Markus, We have reported the door situation to the manufacturer as soon as the issue arose, however as the pod is manufactured outside the UK we have had to wait for them in order to have the pod repaired being bespoke means we rely on the time frame of the manufacturers schedule. I can inform you that the last update we had was that we are now waiting on a date to have it installed as the part has now been made for replacement. Team NRG Manchester

Positive experience: The classes and instructors at NRG are really good and so are the facilities! However, when attending women's only classes, lack of privacy has been a recurring problem. I have been to a few classes now where people have been stood outside the doors looking in throughout the class. It's very uncomfortable and difficult to focus on the class with people stood watching. Women's only classes should provide a safe space for women and sadly this is not the case.

Positive experience: Classes are great overall! I think it would be good to put some blinds on the glass doors, because it can feel somewhat uncomfortable seeing people look in. I know they may not always be staring at people dancing or squating etc. but it is uncomfortable to know that people can look in when you are trying your hardest not to look. This is a personal feeling but I have also heard other people say it too and thought it would be beneficial to share!

Fantastic experience: UPDATE ON PREVIOUS REVIEW: Since I wrote the below review, not only have I received a careful and considerate response, but also seen a solution of a pull across curtain at the gym for privacy in female only classes. I'm really impressed with how quickly this gym responds to customer feedback. And continue to enjoy the fantastic classes, spaces and equipment. PREVIOUS REVIEW: I'd like to start by saying I really enjoy NRG. The gym is a great space and the classes and trainers are awesome. However, I am a bit disappointed that for the women's only classes the staff are made to have to use the vertical standing banners as makeshift haphazard blinds to the studio and spin space. They are a nuisance and often fall down, which is uncomfortable for those who can only exercise in a space without men for religious or personal reasons. I'm unsure why such a well-made gym would not view this as a priority. The female dedicated room is a triumph and you'd expect consistency and reliability in other advertised "female only" classes in gym, with sufficient guaranteed privacy.

Negative experience: I’ve been attending female-only classes at NRGYM and while I enjoy the classes, there’s a recurring issue with privacy. The barrier are meant to give us privacy during are classes often fall and doesn’t fully cover the glass allowing men to peek in, which is uncomfortable, especially for Muslim women who remove their hijabs. Despite over 25 of us signing a petition and raising complaints, this issue remains unresolved after five months. We love the gym, but we just want to feel safe and comfortable during our workouts. Positive experience: Decent gym. Equipment Maintenance has improved since Kangwa has returned. A harder worker you wont find! The reliability of the lift is an issue though. Staff are also helpful & friendly. #Bruna

Fantastic experience: As usual I’m hitting the gym, going through the motions. Can be a lonely place even with hundreds of people doing their thing with their headphones on. You kinda don’t realise you’re going through the motions, then there’s that guy willing to break the norm, will to ask “what you doing?”, “why don’t you do this session?” . I’m like, trying to think of all the reasons not to do it. Coach Aqeel only gave me one reason . With a smile and real enthusiasm, again the question came “you joining in?” , “come on, what else you doing?” I had no idea what to expect, and it was a tough session, but it was more than that, suddenly I’m cheering on my team, I’m working hard, it’s not all about me, coach is giving me support, the team support, directing us at every turn and pushing everyone. It was a great cardio session with a strategic rowing machine that was a major focus and great move to get everyone focused. Anyway you never know when you need that change till someone is willing to ask. It’s diamond and it’s much more than just training, I kind of felt like I was part of something, I was thinking of things outside my own head, thinking of others, supporting others. They say experiance shared builds bonds, and coaches are the glue to that. My first session with Coach Aqeel, was great, he is a good supportive coach that kinda sees the small things and can help you build on what you have now, physically and mentally, I’ll be back, if you try it once you will too. Come along speak Coach Aqeel or any of the other team, it’ll be the best Tuesday and or Friday 730 session you will have.

There is no mirror in front of Smith machine. And the toilet is not clean. But it has very nice employees, especially Emma

Fantastic experience: I joined NRG gym three weeks ago, and from the first moment, I was amazed by the customer service. All the personal trainers are lovely, friendly and helpful. The gym is equipped with high-quality equipment, and I believe it has everything we need. However, I sometimes struggle to find 10 , 12 and 14 kg dumbbells, so having more of those would be great. There is a body tracker machine, which is decent, but compared to others I've used, it could be more user-friendly. If we want to save the result we should scan a barcode which is not easy and sometime does not work! The gym is really spacious and has different areas for various types of training, along with free classes. There is a female-only zone, free parking, male and female saunas, and many more amenities. Overall, considering the price, I believe NRG gym is the best gym I've ever been to in Manchester.

Fantastic experience: I have been attending NRG for a few months and can only say positive things about my experience. The staff at the gym are wonderful people to talk to, especially Emma. Since joining the gym, I always see her smiling at people and to me. You can always count on her to keep the gym hygienic as I always see her picking up any mess that may be left. Negative experience: Top-notch quality equipment (when it works) but lacks basic hygiene. Equipment gets broken and takes ages to be repaired. The kit is covered in thick layers of dust, and changing rooms are filthy with litter over the floor. Quite often there is no soap in any of the dispensers or toilet paper in cubicles, which should not be acceptable at all in such an environment. So much potential, but shame it isn't put to use

Fantastic experience: We have been going to this gym since January 2024, as a family. Staff are excellent, friendly and always ready to help if we need anything. We feel super comfortable and enjoy going together to workout. It's a pleasure to go there. Thanks to Emma, Stephen & Rosie for being helpful and approachable. There is a good atmosphere, good music and lots of machines. My daughter, 11 years old, enjoys going to the gym, she feels comfortable to use the machines. Fantastic experience: Great gym for muslim sisters as they also have a girls only area.Great equipment for both areas. Staff are very helpful and nice. I just hope if possible if there was anything to cover the door into the girls only section as people can be looking inside and some may feel uncomfortable. I highly recommend this gym.

Fantastic experience: NRG Manchester is the best gym in all the gyms I have been a member of for the last 15 years in South Manchester. Worth a visit to check it for yourselves. It is a fully equipped, 24 hour gym. It's good to see Kangwa back again with all the hardwood he is doing around the gym. And Stephen has always been a welcoming presence. Love this gym.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to this gym since January 2024, how did I not find this place sooner! Staff are really helpful and friendly which is always a positive. There’s lots of equipment and also a female only zone. The added advantage is that my son can have a membership which he loves and we are able to do classes together and he loves boxercise and circuit. So a great place for us both to get fit.

Fantastic experience: Joined this gym July 2023 and have loved my experience. I'm not a youngster and wasn't very confident at first, but there is a female only zone which I use and this definitely takes away my gym fear. Thank you to Emma who always gives great advice, she's the friendly face that greets me and encourages me on each session. She's very knowledgeable about health and fitness, which helps a lot. Fantastic experience: Since moving to Manchester in 2022, I’ve really struggled finding a gym that I felt happy in but I joined NRG a few months ago and I FINALLY found what I’ve been wanting out of a gym and I definitely won’t be looking anywhere else now that’s for sure! Not only does the gym have multiple different areas to workout (including a woman’s only area), but there is a big variety of equipment to use! Although, the member etiquette could be massively improved! I’m constantly walking around looking for equipment due to people not putting their weights and equipment back where it goes which can be frustrating especially when you’re short on time! However, I always see staff (especially Tyrese) going around and tidying the place up. I’ve also tried a few classes which are fun and collaborative - so they are great if you’re nervous or going on your own! The staff I’ve had classes with (Aqeel, Rayna, Abbie and Stephen) have all been so friendly, knowledgable and passionate! It would be great to see NRG introduce STEP classes as I’m currently going to another gym just for these classes! Overall, a really great gym and I would highly recommend joining if you’re looking for a gym in Manchester! Positives: - Multiple workout areas (including woman’s only room) - Lots of equipment - Friendly staff - Sauna - Free parking - Overall great atmosphere to workout in Recommendations: - Introduce STEP classes! - Implement stricter gym etiquette rules! - More mats (there’s definitely not enough of these - especially when a class is on) - More 4kg-12kg kettlebells - Mirrors in-front of the smiths machines - It would also be great to have a ‘Tribe’ forum on the app for updates, questions, recommendations etc

Fantastic experience: Hi was in the gym on Friday for the 2nd time brilliant gym great size. Positive experience: Great gym. Been coming here since the day it opened. Massive gym with loads of great equipment. They've recently installed loads of new machines which is nice. The biggest issue with this gym is the etiquette. So many people don't care about putting the dumbells back where they belong and you have to go searching for them which is extremely annoying. Many people are super friendly here though so it's not fair to tar them all with the same brush. I was at the gym this morning and one of the staff members had every single dumbell off the racks and was cleaning everything spotless so that was nice to see. If they can just clamp down on the people who don't put the weights back then it would be a 5 star gym.

Fantastic experience: Lovely gym with lots of equipment. I loved the female only zone. I felt super comfortable in there and it was clean and tidy. Emma was super helpful. She showed me how to use the equipment including the hip thrust machine which is so much easier to set up then a barbell and helped me get the know the gym. I’m really happy here and wouldn’t want to train anywhere else.

Positive experience: TLDR at the end. Good: - seriously good equipment and a lot of it. Hammer strength brand which makes me very happy (good brand). - there’s so much equipment that even at peak times you’ll be able to do your workout uninterrupted by waiting for something to free up (the main reason I stay at this gym). - the staff are seriously lovely. The bad: - things are always broken. From toilet seats to a water fountain that took 6 months to be fixed. Equipment breaks or gets damaged and stays that way for a long time. - it’s very dirty for a commercial gym. This ranges from the toilets to the gym itself. Tissues for cleaning the equipment get left everywhere around the gym and of course there’s always weights and plates left on the floor - the staff do chase people about this though thankfully but it’s a losing battle. - there’s almost never any toilet paper in the stalls. If you go in the afternoon during peak times, good luck if you need a dump. I’ve literally brought my own toilet paper before because I didn’t trust there’d be any when I arrived, and I was right! Overall I do like this gym and the equipment variety and volume is what gets me to stay. It’s a bit far from where I live which is a pain, and the cleanliness and maintenance continues to be an issue for me. If they can keep up with the maintenance and cleaning some more then I’ll be happy and will update my review. TLDR: tons of really high end equipment but very dirty and things are usually broken or damaged.

Negative experience: Very dark and gloomy. Lack or mirrors. 1/3 of machines are always broken. Over priced as compare to other clubs. Staff is very biased, the will only help you if you look after them other wise they will either chit chat their friends or stay in their cosy room.
Positive experience: I’m working with Emma as my personal trainer in this gym she’s Adapted Great training for program my needs and she is very friendly. Gym have A great variety of equipments and I like that there is a female only zone.
