Our comment from FitFit UK about Queen's Sport:
Welcome to Queen's Sport, a premier sports center located in Belfast, United Kingdom. This facility is a haven for sports enthusiasts, offering a wealth of amenities designed to meet the needs of athletes and casual visitors alike.
Here are some key highlights:
- Extensive range of equipment, including free weights, cardio machines, and specialized areas for activities like deadlifting.
- Multiple sports facilities including swimming pools, a climbing wall, badminton courts, and indoor/outdoor pitches.
- A vibrant community atmosphere, making it not just a gym, but a social hub for health and wellness.
- A friendly and helpful staff dedicated to enhancing your experience.
- Great classes available for various interests such as yoga, dance, and spin.
- Convenient on-site cafe for refreshments before or after your workout.
While the center enjoys many advantages, some users have shared feedback regarding certain areas for improvement:
- Occasionally overcrowded, especially during peak hours, leading to limited access to certain machines.
- The mobile app can be confusing for new users, particularly when booking courts or classes.
- Weakness in overall maintenance and some wait times for equipment and staff availability.
- Changing facilities require more frequent cleaning and upkeep.
Despite these minor concerns, Queen's Sport is celebrated for its excellent value, modernized equipment, and comprehensive community offerings, making it a fantastic place for fitness and enjoyment.
Queen's Sport: Opinions
Positive experience: Very good place. Lots of facilities. Good location. The sauna is too cold. Needs fixed to be much warmer. As it's so cold people sit in it for 30mins+ to warm up so it's always rammed. Heat it up! The weights machines are a bit old fashioned and could do with some new stuff/updates. There are winter memberships listed on the website that you can't actually sign up to on the website. It's confusing. You need to go in and do it at reception. No-one ever answers the membership phone line. A physical membership card in 2024 isn't great. Add it to the app. And generally make the app more modern.
Negative experience: Equipment is great esp the deadlift area etc but now with the amount of members it’s simply too busy to even get a machine now. Same with the weights room. I believe with the demand the gym needs another room full of weights especially benches and not just treadmills.
Negative experience: The app is very confusing, especially for new students who are unaware as to which option to book for a casual game. Tried booking badminton once and some guys came up to us and basically made us leave cause apparently we aren't in the "club". If we actually weren't in the "club" why did they even allow us to book it in the first place. Plus this apparent "club" isn't even handled by queens as when we went to the reception to ask they didn't have any solution to offer. Also about badminton, when we asked the reception they said that badminton is currently under high demand, if you guys already know the fact that badminton is under high demand then stop allowing other sports to be played on the badminton courts, like on most nights there's only 2 courts available in the minor halls while the rest 3 is used for some sword fighting sport which only like 10-12 people are entirely involved in while the ones who want to play badminton (who in fact is a huge number of students) have to make use of the other 2 courts. The pec is such a huge building, atleast dedicate some spots just for badminton. In general the courts are all right, it's sort of a makeshift basketball area too which I hope wouldn't get used for basketball anytime soon, and since the area was made in mind for basketball, the ceiling isn't that high and it's clearly seen as tons of shuttlecocks are stuck up in the railings above.
Negative experience: Very poorly staffed with awful opening hours, would wholeheartedly advise against a membership at this gym
Positive experience: The venue is great for sports enthusiasts, offering plenty of space and facilities. However, the rule prohibiting sauna for children is quite strange and puzzling. It’s unclear why such a restriction exists, and it can cause confusion for families. Despite this odd policy, the overall atmosphere remains good for sporting activities, though the management might need to clarify or adjust certain rules to better accommodate all visitors.
Fantastic experience: Best bang for the buck
Fantastic experience: Was up for phisio and very pleased with the staff and treatment
Fantastic experience: Queen Sports is an exceptional fitness center that truly stands out in the area. The facility is fully equipped with a wide range of exercise machines catering to all fitness levels. Additionally, it boasts an array of recreational facilities including a swimming pool, squash court, table tennis, and an exciting wall climbing area. The surrounding greenery enhances the beauty of the location, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. The center also features a vast parking area, which is extremely convenient. Families will appreciate the dedicated playground for kids, making it a family-friendly venue. A unique aspect of Queen Sports is its accommodation for community activities, such as the special arrangements for Eid prayers during Eid-ul-Adha, making it a culturally inclusive space. Queen Sports also offers a variety of classes such as dance, yoga, and cycling, catering to different interests and fitness goals. Whether you're a fitness enthusiast or looking for a fun and supportive place to start your fitness journey, Queen Sports is highly recommended. It’s not just a gym, it’s a community hub for health, enjoyment, and well-being.
Fantastic experience: I love it :3
Fantastic experience: Create place to teach your child to swim!
Negative experience: Decent , but often busy gym, with a good coffee shop Classes are good and well run, and the staff are great. Facilities are clean and the environment is good. Parking is easy and free for up to 3hrs. Pool hours on Saturdays are limited to 1-5pm for lane swimming (open for family swim, more like a leisure centre pool), which is not good value for money if you're paying for peak times membership. In the gym, people often sit idly looking at their phones on the weight machines, making it difficult to get on, and the staff make no effort to discuss this or provide signage encouraging good etiquette. Climbing wall is unavailable for booking up on Saturdays, and Mon, Wed, and Fri evenings.
Fantastic experience: Nice place for sports.
Fantastic experience: Membership is best for student staff and general. Good amenities All inclusive is good package membership
Positive experience: Great for karate
Positive experience: Great gym/facilities but some gym machines remain "broken" for months, no sign of them getting fixed, bit annoying. Other than that its cool
Negative experience: Music is far too loud. Forget bringing your headphones cause it’s so loud you won’t be able to hear your own music
Fantastic experience: Nice place , spacious car parking facilities
Positive experience: Plenty of equipment, easy to get workout done. Changing facilities are absolutely filthy, dirt and spills in changing room on Thursday night still there on Monday night, walls and floor covered in dirt.
Fantastic experience: Excellent facility, great gym and also outdoor areas. Good for 5 a side football
Positive experience: Good venue for varied sports, Clements coffee shop in foyer is good for coffee and snacks
Positive experience: Precovid I loved this gym. With off-peak membership you can go up to 3pm or after 8pm... which was fine before covid as they always had classes at 8pm. Since covid they've cancelled them, now the last class is 7.30pm which means for off-peak you can't attend any evening classes! If you work 9am - 5pm as most people do, then you only have the option of 1 class in the mornings at 6.45/7am. I don't see why they won't reinstate 8pm classes, off-peak members are being penalised.
Negative experience: Some of the staffs attitudes toward foreigners aren’t very good.
Positive experience: Lots of facilities and provision for sports. It has two pools and a sauna with the timetable posted online each week. A little bit of a maze that could benefit from some maps up and a lack of water fountains (that are not broken).
Negative experience: It's a good gym but it is way too packed, they should stop taking members if there is not enough room for everyone, also way too warm in the weight room downstairs and the fans are often broken for weeks at a time.
Positive experience: The music they play is far too loud
Fantastic experience: 有游泳馆 学生和外部人员都可以进入 需要办理会员卡或者次卡
Positive experience: Good gym & plenty of space. The new equipment is a great addition . Would be brilliant if they added plate loaded equipment & brought back booking times in weight areas. Too busy at peak times *the renovated weight area upstairs and down is great. New racks, equipment, & flooring is a nice update.
Negative experience: Got told by a staff member that we cannot bring our own additional weights. This is a gym so I do not understand what the issue is with bringing your own equipment to assist with your workout. Will be looking for a new gym soon.
Fantastic experience: Queens sports was great place cleaning was good juct they need to do ask peoples to change their durty shoes
Negative experience: Hopeless in terms of customer service/care
Fantastic experience: Amazing facility, friendly professional staff. Clean organised
Fantastic experience: Just recently opened and it is a fantastic facility for the Students also open to the public,
Fantastic experience: I went there to join and they couldn't be more helpful answering all my questions. Top class
Fantastic experience: I really want to play for queens University.
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff, big space and a lot of courses available
Fantastic experience: Me encanto. Es enorme, con personal super amable, con todo tipo de deportes. Muy limpio, agradable y bien ubicado
Fantastic experience: Visited here for a show & was impressed at how well this venue suited it - good location, free parking, spacious hall
Positive experience: Great price and always clean. But has too many treadmills that stand empty all of the time and everyone is waiting for weights and resistance machines because theres only a few there
Fantastic experience: The new you @ Queens sports
Fantastic experience: U have to be a member to get in to use the swimming pools but it gets 10/10 great place
Fantastic experience: Great gym. Swimming pool is great. Good attention. 100% recommend
Fantastic experience: Fantastic centre it's got everything
Fantastic experience: Very good parking
Positive experience: I have been going to this gym for a year and enjoying it. However, recently I have noticed that there is no staff member at the desk in the gym like their used to be to help with any problems. There is also a limited dumbbell weight in the upstairs gym, with their being barely anything in between 10kg - 20kg, which makes it hard to progressively overload effectively. Recently I have found there are only a few carbiners to go round between multiple cable machines, which is very annoying, as you are waiting for a long time when there are machines free! Im not posting this to be critical, because overall I really enjoy this gym, and I have experienced friendly staff. But I feel these are easy problems to fix, and it would just help everyone's gym experiences go more smoothly and you can get your work out done quicker! Please fix these problems Queens PEC!
Fantastic experience: Helpful informative and helpful staff complying with covid regs. Great facilities.
Positive experience: good facilities. you need to be a member or it's quite expensive - I think £9 entry with a member. app to book is adequate. be warned the pool and halls are preferentially given to bookings ie no protected member times. also many facilities unavailable during student exam times.
Fantastic experience: Great place for going to do your sporting discipline mine was basketball so enjoyed
Fantastic experience: Uncountable activities great stuff
Fantastic experience: Best sports center in Belfast
Positive experience: Facilities are good but it always feels really complicated trying to book or organise anything. On the app prices for classes seem to be randomly assigned. Some days they are free, some days they cost £5.00 (regardless of time/ class/ demand/ membership type). In summary there are good facilities but it feels like things shouldn't be so difficult to book and there needs to be consistency with pricing.
Fantastic experience: Basketball Court
Fantastic experience: Great place for a swim.Staff have everything under control...clean safe... Very organised.
Fantastic experience: Great place
Fantastic experience: Had physio not long ago staff where very good would recommend a visit would check their website for prices etc
Positive experience: I used the carpark to go into Botanic Gardens
Fantastic experience: Best centre in Belfast!
Positive experience: Fantastic Facilities
Fantastic experience: Great facilities for almost every sport imaginable.
Fantastic experience: Best leisure centre in belfast. Queens university own it and have been going here for about 40 years, staff always very helpful and friendly, good banter with regulars too. Restricted to one hour sessions in the gym and cardio due to covid 19 but thats ok,nice and clean and pool opening in august, yea lol.
Fantastic experience: The PEC is operating in normal capacity now post Covid. Almost all the restrictions are removed. The Queen's sports is equipped with everything you need. Almost all gym equipment and indoor games 5 a side courts, badminton, squash, swimming, spin, and different exercise classes. All can be booked through the queen's University sports application. Amazing facilities under one roof.
Fantastic experience: Plenty for everyone with lots of cardio equipment, machines, free weights and a separate Strength & Conditioning suite with more free weights, plenty of squat racks, benches and 4 deadlift platforms and enough barbells for everything, including 2 Ohio Power Bars - and that's just the gyms; there's also swimming pools, a climbing wall and various indoor halls and outdoor pitches for the sport of your choice, as well as changing areas and shower facilities. My only personal downside is that there is no open area for the likes of weighted carries or weighted sled pulls (and indeed no sled), but considering the plethora of things available, this isn't really an issue.
Fantastic experience: Only went in to use the toilets but saw the extensive list of facilities. Its got a climbing wall a cafe and a swimming pool!
Negative experience: Great place for indoor games.
Positive experience: Great summer scheme for kids
Fantastic experience: Great gym and facilities, lovely cafe
Fantastic experience: Very clean, never encountered any staff. As we where a karate competition.
Fantastic experience: Great place for a workout. There's a pool and rock climbing wall (not that I've ever used it). Queen's Students and staff get a cheaper rate too!
Fantastic experience: Very nice place and friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Great classes and decent gym. Good range and for all levels. Can get busy sometimes but sure what gym doesn't. The clements is nice too for a quite bite/coffee
Negative experience: Could be so much better if they try a bit.
Fantastic experience: This PE centre is perfect place for students who want to do gym, swimming ♂️and other physical activities♀️♀️. There is a cafe as well ☕
Fantastic experience: Archery, swimming, zumba, this gym has it all!
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and a wide range of classes!
Fantastic experience: The PEC has a great gym that spaced out over a large area. There is a good pool and diving pool. The changing facilities are good with lockers and private showers. The climbing wall is however on the small side. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The gym is priced reasonable.
Fantastic experience: I was there for bubble football. Great time. Would definitely do it again
Positive experience: Nice coffee shop and facilities in the gym are pretty good. Easy parking.
Positive experience: There is a nice cafe shop here but to use the cafe you need to be a member
Fantastic experience: Good facilities
Fantastic experience: Great sports centre
Fantastic experience: Great swimming pool. You can also get swimming lessons, for kids and adults, at a reasonable price too.
Positive experience: Nice place
Fantastic experience: Nice place two great indoor gyms friendly staff
Fantastic experience: It is excellent and gooiest
Positive experience: Great facilities and good prices for QUB students and alumni.
Fantastic experience: Is a great facility with warm vibes. The Clements cafe inside it is a great place to chill too.
Positive experience: 운동하기 좋음.
Fantastic experience: Very happy with facility and staff
Fantastic experience: First class multi-sports xomplex
Positive experience: They have memberships at a good price, especially for students. The facilities are great with two indoor gyms, one larger than the other however, I have found that even in off-peek times, the gym gets too stuffy and crowded with awful smells protruding the air.
Fantastic experience: Super gym
Fantastic experience: Love the gym at Queen's Sport. There is plenty of options here from the many cardio machines, free weights, olympic weight platforms, machine weights, rigs, 5-a-side pitches (indoor and outdoor), climbing walls, trampolining, table tennis, squash, classes such as spin class, studios, boxing equipment, swimming, sauna and more. Staff friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: very good place
Positive experience: Buon centro sportivo
Fantastic experience: Great location with sweet equipment and facilities
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, all you could want in a gym. Range of cardio machines, weight machines, and great selection of free weights, benches and racks in the strength suite.
Fantastic experience: Great selection of activities
Fantastic experience: I think is a lack of option for those students that work or study on queens, I`ve worked there and the only gym option was here, but well is an awesome place to go
Positive experience: Pros: Lots of space and great facilities on offer. Friendly staff. Very available. Very handy to have a cafe on site. Cons: No chalk bins available in free weights sections, weights are never racked back in appropriate positions, same playlist on repeat.
Positive experience: Number and range of facilities is fantastic, clements coffee shop is great as well. Can be very busy at times though
