Oak Park Active Living Centre

Positive experience: THERE IS A SAUNA AND A STEAM ROOM. I really like this place, I often visit this gym only because there is a sauna. And unfortunately this information that there is a SAUNA AND A STEAM ROOM is hidden, and this is the problem that there is no complete information about many gyms, and for some reason people in the reviews do not mention this either, which makes me a little nervous. The gym itself is usually quite full and you have to wait for some exercise machines, it is quite spacious and despite this I also visit it.

Negative experience: The gym here is lovely and classes also. however the parking is not suitable with all the activities that the council feel acceptable to hold at oak park on a Sunday at the same time 10-11am. they have kids football torments with at least 70 children, 100 spaces for dance competitions or shows held in the main hall leaving people who pay to use the gym monthly or people who just to take their children swimming with no where to park and having a fine. Which is shame especially in the hard times we currently live in. The signs are unclear and do not show where you can’t park. Job worth parking warden gets off on this every week.

Fantastic experience: Use the gym with my daughter regularly, staff in there always friendly enough, busy but not too busy that you have to wait too long for machines. Great gym

Fantastic experience: Excellent football area and swimming facilities. Decent sized parking with an additional overflow car park. Bit pricey at the shop thou.

Positive experience: Communal change rooms were fine and the showers were warm. The pool itself was too cold a temperature

Negative experience: I would put zero stars but no option. Booked a court for badminton at 2000 hours on 30/08/2024. Paid in full pre arranged on website and confirmed booking. Attended was told we had not booked then said there was a glitch and happened to someone before us. Staff are rude and obnoxious except for one member of staff who was male with luscious hair. Negative experience: gym is quite small and cramped with too many leg machines. no arm machines at all, just a preacher rack and dumbbells. almost always has teenagers running around making it hard to concentrate on my workout. some of the staff are nice but don't really know much about fitness and a very rude lady at the desk is anything but helpful. pool is large but is cut off most days due to lessons going on. the changing rooms aren't cleaned properly and usually smell with rubbish within most of the stalls. almost every room needs a different overpriced membership.

Fantastic experience: Great facilities and Astro I used to train there every week for 2 years, sports hall is nice (big-ish), the swimming pool is also good, water at deep end is 2m and there is also a little pool for toddlers and babies. Overall a great place

Positive experience: Usually a great place to go and swim. Unfortunately last night was my worst experience yet. The pool was fairly busy and one life guard in particular was a bit too happy with the whilst. Twice me and my mum (30 and 60) were told off about being too close to the lane rope. We were having to swim widths as both ends of the pool were too busy with teenagers jumping in and out of the pool to be able to swim lengths. Your reply is going to say “swim in the lanes then” - we do not have the stamina to keep up with those swimming in the lanes and that would totally ruin the experience. Never before have we had this problem and this lady with the whistle should be actually keeping an eye on those pushing each other into the water rather than us touching a lane rope to help aiding us turn around. Eventually we got fed up and left after only 30 mins and I’m considering going elsewhere in future. We were not the only people to have commented on the over use of the whistle for no reason whatsoever!

Fantastic experience: The swimming here is fab for the kids. I highly recommend it. Staff are lovely too!

Negative experience: We went today as our local pool has gone downhill and heard nothing but good things. Got there and the pool changing rooms asked you to take off shoes. Fine if you want to catch something. The floor was filthy. We had to keep all shoes on until actually getting into the pool (which was really clean and well staffed) but the changing rooms were filthy. We had to re shower at home. There was trodden in food, hair and weeks worth of grime. I’d avoid if you can. We mentioned it politely to staff who just said ‘it’ll be cleaned at the end of the day’

Fantastic experience: Very clean ,can get busy but men changing room are out of order so have to use downstairs but not enough showers

Positive experience: I went for the toy fair not to use the facilities. It is a great show, but we lost visitors due to people not being able to park. There is a nice café and seating. My only gripe is lack of parking when there are football games being played at the same time as the shows.

Positive experience: The gym staff lacks professionalism, attentiveness.unapproachable staff.been weeks since I have joined and not yet received any mail for my exercise regime as promised.

Fantastic experience: Live in Bloxwich, but come here to play badminton, more organised, easier to book. Football pitches are great as well. Son plays sunday league here.

Fantastic experience: Usually excellent facilities, staff and activities provided. Except for last 3 WEEKS when staff illness meant that certain classes were all cancelled as cover was not found. When you pay in advance for membership, I find this unaccetable. I agree that there were other classes available, but due to personal issues they would not have been suitable for me. Have sent emails concerning this issue but still awaiting a reply.

Fantastic experience: After moving away from Walsall Wood in 2006 to come back to visit Oak Park I'm amazed at the transformation the new building is next level I'd recommend this place to anybody

Negative experience: Never been to a leisure complex with such dirty changing rooms puts you off from going

Positive experience: Always a pleasure to visit, very welcoming, just needs to ensure it’s cleaned a bit more regularly in gym changing rooms, like a football teams been through it with their boots on… the rest of the facilities are always clean and tidy

Negative experience: Got a parking fine for parking on a free car park. Signage for coach parking woefully inadequate as loads of cars got done. Walsall borough council should be ashamed but are probably proud of themselves. Coach parking is never used at that time and the council loses no money. Petty and totally off putting for anyone wanting to use the place. They'll lose out in the long run as I'll use somewhere else to keep fit from now on.

Positive experience: Equipment in gym is kept in good condition, but at 4pm it's so busy, mainly with teenagers you struggle to get on the Equipment, needs to be bigger with more Equipment to meet demand. If you can go earlier would be OK.

Fantastic experience: very polite lady on the reception. clean changing rooms. plenty space. clean sauna and steam room. a little bit of rubbish floating in the main swimming pool. otherwise happy with my first visit!

Positive experience: We attended the leisure centre for a toy fair being held in their sports hall area. The venue was big with plenty of space inside, The staff were ok, one member of staff spent a lot of time sat on reception shouting at visitors, to queue in single file and to stop blocking the doors, although the venue had not put any queuing system in place, I found this to be rude and rather irritating when the queue was doing its best to not be in the way. We did not use the leisure centre's facilities, so i can not review them, only our experience on visit to the toy fair.

Negative experience: Too many young kids , on phones not using equipment just sitting on it. stopped going here for this reason, I go to use equipment not sit on it doing nothing,

Fantastic experience: Took grandson roller blading he loved it

Negative experience: Walkways from car park to entrance never been cleaned. Lots of swimers never follow outside shoes removed rules. Never monitored by staff.

Fantastic experience: Been taking DD her now for about 6 months great pool very clean, top outdoor astro turf football area, not tried gym I'm just being lazy but very well kitted out, staff are helpful and easy going, but they are very busy always seem to be on the phone or deal with long queue. Walsall swimming club train here, to club from.learners to club as per my other post highly recommend

Positive experience: Good facilities with friendly staff, but in peak times, the gym is not big enough with not enough equipment to accommodate demand.

Fantastic experience: Everything you could need from a leisure centre. Modern equipment and facilities, in the main very well maintained.

Positive experience: By far a superior pool to Wyndley, Walsall Gala and Snowdome - the facility is bright, well maintained and with wonderful family change facilities. They also have it heated to an appropriate temperature, we travel double the distance to swim here. Only letdown is that you can't book some sessions online only over the phone or at the desk, and often you have to wait whilst people are making swimming lesson enquiries as they do not operate a waitlist or manage this separately meaning you can be waiting over 10 minutes for 1 person to move on. If they could sort this another way (possibly dedicated enquiry area or something) it would be 5 stars.

Positive experience: Very good, always something going on here. Not just swimming and the gym. The kids love the rollerskating disco! Gym available with sauna and steam room

Negative experience: Poor service . Rang at different times to find out information about another matter I could not get through . Even when I stood in the reception area I rang , I was hanging on for 5 minutes or more . When I complained they said they were busy which was not the case. I continued to try to get through all day . There was no information their card reader was out of action. A notice not covered in plastic was put on the door outside which got wet! When I asked when the card reader would be fixed I got a blank look. Not acceptable, it's a public service due staff that can't be asked to answer the phone. I asked when was busy , I was told 11 am. So I avoided that time. Needs improvement and staff that are actually helpful. Disappointed .

Negative experience: Advertised an excercise session, and no one there. Still on web site. Staff hadnt promoted it or encouraged people to join in. Very blase.

Fantastic experience: Lovely facility with affordable hot and cold snacks. When closed, wending machines still available. Friendly staff. Tables and chairs available for people to sit and wait for their kids.

Negative experience: Very rude staff in person and on telephone, Seems to be a culture of individuals unwilling to help. Facilities however are good.

Positive experience: Only went to watch my brother play football on the 3g, didn't use the facilities but they are usually pretty decent at these sorts of venues

Negative experience: Arrived 9pm to collect my daughter. I parked in the empty buses space for 10 mins and received a parking ticket £70 reduced to £35 if paid in 14 days. They must have been hiding in the bushes preying on myself and 4 other cars. Ironically, all the footballers who parked in the disabled spaces weren’t ticketed

Positive experience: Good value for money. Gym is decent. A thing that definitely needs improving is the cleanliness at the locker room. The floor is mostly muddy, wet with loads of hair.

Negative experience: If you ever need to phone them good luck. You are held in a never ending queue. But there is always someone at reception during opening hours. They are too busy socialising rather than answering calls. They will also lie to you saying they are fully booked when they are clearly not.

Fantastic experience: I take my Daughter (four years old) here for swimming lessons. The staff are helpful and friendly, and the centre is always clean and tidy. It is great value and I am extremely happy with progress that she has made in such a short space of time. I spent quite some time looking for the best place to start her lessons, and Oak Park came highly recommended. A decision I am glad to have made.

Positive experience: Popped in to use sauna & steam. Sauna was not hot enough. Best steam room I have ever used. But I won't be going back as just stupid having lockers in corridor thus you have to go back & forth to access your things/clothes etc Two showers seemed too little too as there was always someone waiting to use one & this was daytime

Negative experience: Freezing cold pool and no soap in any of the soap dispensers. Chocolate (I'm hoping that's what it was ) all over the floor in 2 of the cubicles.

Negative experience: Very helpful staff ,polite and clean environment...but seriously the the pools are so cold I were shivering vigorously after an hour with pins n needles with blue lips...so not a relaxing experience at all

Negative experience: Phone line is pointless it never gets answered I’ve been trying to call for over 24 hours still haven’t got through. What’s the point of having a reception if they don’t answer the phone. Also should be a way to edit/cancel a booking online would save so much time instead of having to call every time

Fantastic experience: Excellent community centre. Plenty of swimming facilities and classes for all ages, gym is adequate for a fitness centre, the gym can get very busy at peak times.

Negative experience: Not very good service I've called 18 times to try and book a party but nobody answers the phone so I guess I'll take my custom where I'm sure they would appreciate my money unlike OAK PARK NEVER AGAIN!!!!

Fantastic experience: Very good swimming pool it is so relaxing if I could rate it out of 10 l would rate it 8.5 I recommend others to come there. I go with my school every 2 weeks and it’s great and we all have lots of fun … GREAT PLACE TO GO ..

Fantastic experience: Great swimming experience for everybody with great showers and changing area. Plenty of ample parking. More improvements announced but still a good standard. Locker locks updated and pool still at a good standard and plesant staff.
