Fantastic experience: Loch Rannoch in November. Wonderful location and beautiful rooms and stunning fish dinner in The Estate Room - definitely worth booking the fine dining experience. You can swim at the beach from the Marina and a great base for all sorts of Adventures.

Fantastic experience: Fabulous location overlooking the loch and first class staff

Fantastic experience: Wow, what a location, photos don’t do it justice. Booked a family stay with the dog for our son’s 21st birthday. The rooms and beds were comfortable, the dog was provided with his own bed, towel and treats, the hotel was stunning, beautiful stair case comfortable lounge and bars, the food was delicious, we ate in the bar the first evening, the boys loved the Balmoral Chicken. We dinned in the Estate restaurant the second evening, the food was delicious, I love Venison and it was cooked to perfection as was the cod and steaks. The service was first class. From reception to bar, restaurant and cleaners all the staff were helpful and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Positive experience: Stayed here for two nights. Found the hotel overall to be cosy with a nice atmosphere, with nice leisure facilities and in a stunning location. However, we had a very disappointing dining experience. We booked a table and arrived on time, we waited for 20 minutes before our order was taken and after we tried to order at the bar where we were turned away in an unfriendly manner and told to wait. Once we had ordered food, it unfortunately took another 25 minutes and further reminder that we had not been served for our food to arrive. The food was very poor quality and was like warm and did not seem or taste fresh - the vegetables that had been advertised as seasonal were lukewarm and consisted of unseasoned brokkoli and cauliflower. Additionally, we were not offered any compensation or treated better after we had some of our meal - I can't recall a more disappointing dining experience and particularly thought the prices considering the food and service on offer really let the rest of the hotel down.

Fantastic experience: Stayed a few years ago and loved it. Reminds me of the Grand Budapest hotel movie. Old-style charm, it gives you the feeling of what hotels used to be, where guests would almost know each other after a while. I remember thinking the food was pretty good. One of my favorite memories were sitting in the lounge with a good whisky after dinner. I'd highly recommend this hotel

Fantastic experience: Lovely suite of rooms with everything you need (except a potato peeler!!! ) the views are outstanding across the loch.

Negative experience: Here are my experiences: the rooms were fine and clean. The service was okay, the breakfast was also okay, but there was hardly any fresh fruit or vegetables. The Leisure Club was particularly bad. To even speak of an offer here is a cheek. The squash court was freezing cold, the basketball hoop was broken, the rest of the place was a mess and despite opening until 18:00 you couldn't book the slot from 17:00 to 18:00. The water sports activities no longer took place at all. The prices in the Leisure Club are also absolutely outrageous. The fact that children under the age of 16 were only allowed to swim when accompanied by an adult was almost a mockery to my 14-year-old children. I have never seen anything so bad. The food was difficult. For example, they ran out of flour once, so they couldn't bake any more pizza. For a hotel in this price category: That's a joke. It was also cheeky that we, as hotel guests, almost didn't get a seat in the restaurant and could only take up a very late slot at 8.30pm. In summary: I will never come back and the fact that I am writing a Google review for the first time shows how incredibly annoyed I am.

Dear Christian, Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for gracing us with your very first Google review! We're truly honoured. It seems there was a bit of a disconnect between what we offer and what you expected. Had you taken a moment to browse our website, you might have saved yourself a good bit of self-inflicted frustration. Our water sports season, for example, wrapped up three weeks ago — which, given the near Arctic water temperatures, has been something of a relief to most guests. However, it's impressive that you're the first to inquire about diving into single-digit temperature waters in often very rainy but nonetheless magical Scottish days! As for the Leisure Club, we understand your disappointment. Our squash court does indeed feel a bit colder due to those low outdoor temperature, but rest assured we will be cranking up the heating. And while our facilities may have been below your expectations, the policies (like swimming age restrictions) and prices are laid out quite clearly for all to see on the website and at the entrance. When it comes to food, we’ve got a great selection of cooked vegetables and a buffet brimming with fruit, but we’d have gladly brought you raw vegetables if you'd asked. And while the pizza menu did finish a few weeks back, we still offer plenty of options to satisfy even the most carb-deprived. As for restaurant reservations, our popularity can sometimes mean guests need to book earlier slots in advance. We’re glad you managed to secure a spot, even if it was fashionably late! In conclusion, we appreciate your feedback, and we’re always happy to remind guests that all the information on what’s available, what’s not, and what seasonally changes is right there on our website. Best regards, Loch Rannoch Hotel& Estate

Positive experience: Stayed in one of the apartments for 2 nights in August and it was stunning. My only gripe was the service in the restaurant, which we happened to book for my birthday meal. We waited 20 minutes for drinks, had to ask twice for water and they sent out our starter with our mains, which was followed by a rude response from one of the waiters, was not impressed!!

Dear Gemma, Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed the stunning views from the apartment and had a memorable time at the Highland Games—a wonderful way to celebrate your birthday! However, we would like to clarify that the apartment you stayed in is managed by a different company and not under our direct control. We’re sorry to hear about the service issues you encountered in our restaurant during your birthday meal. We apologise for the delays and any lack of attentiveness from our team. Fantastic experience: We spent one night in a lodge together for a girls night away, lovely location. The hotel bar and lounge area was gorgeous, spacious, folk playing board games, sipping drinks, they put the log fire on. I tried the estate lager which was lovely and crisp. The staff were all friendly and helpful, lovely setting with couches, tables and stuffed animals, tartan carpets, outdoor seating, just what you'd expect. The lodge itself was clean, well provided for, spacious with an indoor/outdoor balcony. My only gripe would be the dated decor, which made the lodge feel tired and the very strange dust gatherer valance at the top of the curtains. Awful design and just looks odd. Apart from that, the beds were comfy, everything you could need in the kitchen and lovely view.

Dear Mhairi, Thank you for your lovely review and for sharing your experience. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the hotel facilities, particularly the cosy bar and lounge area with its inviting atmosphere, and that our team made you feel welcome. It’s wonderful to know the setting was just right for your girls' night away. However, we would like to clarify that the lodges are managed by a separate company, and we do not have control over their accommodation or decor. We’re grateful that you took the time to provide feedback on your stay, but please be aware that the lodge experience is outside of our management. Fantastic experience: I have just spent a night here with my sister and really wished we could have stayed longer. The staff were so friendly and attentive couldn't have wished for better service. We spent some time in the steam room and sauna which were great. There was an area for sitting and it was so relaxing just sitting looking out over the loch on a beautiful sunny day The food was amazing - I had chicken Balmoral with all the trimmings followed by sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. We also had a few cocktails which were delicious. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious, only thing missing was the haggis. Only one thing I would have liked and that was a fridge in the room. The room was a bit warm for me but that was probably because it had been a scorching day Like to thank all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable.

Fantastic experience: The Location of the Hotel is amazing there are different types of room categories..infect all cottages are there you can choose as per your requirement. Thr village is also very beautiful and calm. If you are coming here then no need to go anywhere as there are lot of spots which are in walking distance..The Location is quite remote as you have to drive a bit lot but once you reach there all tiredness is gone..I would give this property 5 star rating.

Positive experience: Me and my husband enjoyed our recent stay at the hotel, the room was nice and the scenery is beautiful. The staff were okay and the marina activities were fun. The 3 stars comes from how very disappointed we were in the food. We tried both restaurants and found them both lacking (same kitchen for both). It’s a shame because it’s a long drive from any other restaurants.

Positive experience: The hotel itself is in part of a large-ish estate with the main hotel building, a pool/spa building and what appears to be apartments. Some parts of the building are in need of a little TLC, but overall it is in pretty good condition. Inside it is a typical “country hotel” with comfortable lounge areas, more than one restaurant and a couple of bars. The staff we spoke to were all very nice and polite, although when we arrived the reception staff seemed a bit harassed, but I think they had just had a very busy day. We ate in both restaurants during our stay. The rather posh Estate Room with a dress code (for men at least) and the more relaxed Wild Brownie Bar with no such restrictions. Dinner in the Estate Room consisted of Goats Cheese Bon Bons which were rather tasty, followed by a sous vide Lamb rump which was amazing, and a Cheese Board for desert. My other half had Scallops to start, followed by a Salmon fillet on a bed of various Pulses in a Tomato based and for desert a Pink Lady Tart Tatin, The next night In the Wild Brownie I had a Ham Hock Terrine, served with crackers and salad which was OK, followed by a Balmoral Chicken with mash and veg, which was alright – there was nothing wrong with it, it just wasn’t as nice as the food I’d had the night before. Desert for me was a Red Velvet Cheesecake, which was just as good as the name suggests that it should be. My other half had Butternut Squash Soup and Fish & Chips, both delicious. The Whisky bar was a bit of a let-down if I am honest. I was expecting wall to wall, world beating selection of whisky…. but it wasn’t that much. I suspect it is just an advertising hook to pull in American tourists. Don’t get me wrong. it was a good selection of Whiskies, at least double what you would find in an average city centre bar. However I have stayed in other hotels with a whisky collection 3-4 times that of this Hotel. The Whisky bar was joined to the main Wild Brownie bar, same staff just 1 wall apart to separate the Wild Brownie Bar in the next room. Any time I stood looking at which Whisky I wanted to choose from a member of the serving staff would be passing through to grab something from the fridge, or the card machine, or a bottle of Whisky and tell me if I wanted served to go to the main bar next door – why have a dedicated Whisky bar if you are going to make people go next door to buy it! I get it, they may have been short on staff, but at one point they had several waiting staff standing doing bugger all, while the bar staff were busy. I don’t much see the point of making a big deal out of advertising a Whisky bar if you are not actually going to stock a serious amount of Whisky and staff it appropriately. The room we had was nice. We went for the Contemporary Double. The room was nice and spacious, had a pretty decent view of the West side of the loch. Breakfast was….. breakfast. It was what you would expect in a Scottish hotel. The days we were staying were busy, and on the 1st morning the fruit juice and a few other supplies were almost gone. The 2nd morning we were a lot earlier and there was a lot more choice and tons of everything – the lesson there being eat early or risk disappointment. The roads getting there aren’t so good though. No matter which way you do it, you have about 15 miles of very narrow / single track road with passing places. It is a quiet road, with not a lot of other vehicles, but beware, all traffic going to Kinloch Rannoch and beyond has to use the same narrow roads, including HGV’s!! One thing I will say is it was abundantly clear when meeting other cars, which ones were used to driving on such narrow roads and which ones were city dwellers with zero concept of Scottish country roads; going WAY to fast, leaving far to much space between their car and the edge of the road. The roads would be fine, if people were respectful of other drivers. Overall, I think we would stay again, for the location if nothing else. It was a fantastic break away and I’d love to return. There are a few complaints but I am out of space on my review.

We’re delighted to hear that you and your family had an enjoyable break, appreciating the beautiful location, friendly staff, and the various dining options we offer. It’s wonderful to know that our spa facilities and the overall atmosphere contributed positively to your experience. We appreciate your candid feedback regarding areas that could use some attention. Positive experience: Nice hotel, however it was blatantly obvious the majority of the staff are lacking basic hospitality training. The £40 per night for having our dogs seemed excessive ( especially as we weren't made aware of this when we had booked through a booking agent) The food was okay, but we were were told because we had dogs we could only have the bar menu . This was dissapointing as it was advertised as a dog friendly hotel and we paid the same price as everyone else. we eventually got the ala carte menu served to us in the corner of the lounge, but only because we managed to persuade them which wasnt easy. The service was shocking, wrong mismatched menus given to us on multiple occasions, uncleared table just left next to us. We had to remind staff we were there, and had to ask for our starters to be cleared half an hour later. No one checked on us. The receptionist was rude when I mentioned it and told me it was our fault we shouldn't be sitting there, even though that's the table they gave us. No one asked if we wanted drinks, had to go back to the bar, then even after ordering they forgot and had to remind them again. Then they sent out food different to the menu, such as my steak and crab didn't have the crab !! When I questioned it they said sorry , and asked if i really wanted my crab !! ( the answer was yes..of course I want my crab), also my streak and crab should have been served with a potato nest... it turned up with 5 chunky chips !! My wifes dish should have been served with green beans... it wasnt, then when we questioned it, they said the beans where cut up small and sturred into the dish !! They wernt !! Food wasn't great, service was shocking, it was okay but I would say more a three star service and food offering. This place needs to go back to basics before they start getting ideas above their station. The breakfast isn't great quality, and cooked items not topped up regularly enough, I started placing some bacon on my plate and a member of staff just took away the scrambled egg dish in front of me and disappeared, not even a word to say " sorry sir just give us a minute" , I then had to stand in line waiting for what I presumed would be the waitress returning with some fresh supplies, she just walked past me empty handed without saying a word !! I politely asked if perhaps it might be replaced, she just replied yes when it's cooked !! So I just had to stand there for another 5 mins then had to ask again. But this time my bacon had gone cold and I just couldn't believe the lack of staff hospitality training. The fruit bowl was virtually empty and the bacon and sausages arnt the best quality. In the end it was okay, but certainly not to the standard we hoped. If you have dogs like us, you are placed in the bar for breakfast, which is absolutely fine and obviously we understand keeping dogs separated, however several other guests were in the bar having breakfast like us, and not a single member of staff comes to that end of the hotel during breakfast to ask if everything is okay... its like they just Don't care about the guests with dogs, you are just left to it on your own at the end of the hotel. Literally zero service at breakfast...... again considering we were paying an extra £40 a day for our dogs, it would have been nice for a member of staff to be looking after the bar area during breakfast service. How the managers don't notice details like this just shows their lack of experience and training, come on this is just basic service!! On a plus point, the hotel location was great, and our room was very clean and a decent size with quality bedding. Our main gripe was just the lack of staff hospitality training for half the staff, then the other half acted like they were working in a 5 star hotel but just didn't understand basic hospitality. It's a shame as potentially this could be a great hotel, but training and attitude needs to change.

Positive experience: My partner booked us in for a surprise night away. The drive was incredible. Taking in some of the finest scenery Scotland had to offer. On arrival at the hotel, it looks onto Loch Rannoch and is so picturesque. The Hotel itself is very old and they have done well in keeping it maintained over the years. The lodges away from the hotel look rather dated the style of the buildings does not fit in with the rest of the hotel. Inside the hotel, it is stunning. Very traditional Highland feel to it. The stairs were beautifully crafted out of wood and the stain glass windows on the landings really stood out. They have made the most of the space available in the rooms as the ensuite wasn't very spacious. The room was comfortable enough for one night's stay. The food was incredible. I had one of the best steaks I have eaten. We made use of the spa which was good, but the steam room wasn't working. Would definitely be back as we loved the area and would like to explore more.

Fantastic experience: We came here to eat on a busy Sunday and were told that it was fully booked. It is clearly popular. Kiara saw we had two tired, small children (we had been camping for three days nearby at Kilvrecht) and booked us in for the first opening, and took us to a cosy sofa where we could wait comfortably. The food was really good (generous portions, well made) and the kids loved the ice cream and brownie. Our small children felt welcome and the mood was calm. We saw someone get a gorgeous trays for high tea. Kiara was honestly an excellent and welcoming hostess and I hope that she gets a raise/the credit she deserves. Also, there’s board games and books to read while waiting.

Negative experience: room is a bit dated but very clean and reception staff have been great. the stairs were getting a new carpet so the lift was very busy as it was the only route to our floor (this is all understandable as upgrades are needed) Unfortunately the steam room was not working and the venison and tagliatelle I could have made better myself ( plain bland noodles and tasteless sauce with no seasoning), I mentioned to the waiter who was going to bring it up with the kitchen staff but returned and walked right past us and continued to avoid us until we had paid the bill. Very disappointed in the meal and service at night but the rest of the stay was pleasant, being honest i would avoid the hotel restaurant next time

Positive experience: Hotel review General comments and observations: - Hotel, due to location, very focused on cash out on customers: £6 for a lager and only extra options for breakfast which you need to pay for - no allergies descriptions on the food nor the description itself what you eat - no WiFi or very spotty in the rooms further from the reception, so you must relay on your 4g...as for 4 stars hotel, I would say that is poor service, - basic breakfast, some pastry, two types of watermelon as fruit options, mostly focused on full English, some selection of gluten-free. There is a selection of extras, but you will have to pay for them. Again, as for 4 start hotels, you would expect much more. I need to say I eat better in Premier Inn recently. You need to ask for a coffee (only black coffee, a nothing else) and tea pot. Dont get me wrong you wont leave hungry, but there are only cut melon and watermelon from fruit selection, only toast bread only natural yoghurt, no fresh veg, only ham or cheese, no other choices for sandwich....for 4 stars is rather poorly. We have stayed in the Contemporary Room, and the room  was clean with a nice view on the lake, although in the summer with full leaf foliage on the trees, not much of the lake you will see. Pool is a 5 min walk outdoors from the hotel. The same is the gym. The pool has wet and dry sounas available. Pron: decent toiletries, selection of still and sparkling water, pool towels. Con: mould in the window corner Pool is small but will keep your children entertained and deep enough a wee swim. Nice view on the lake from the pool lounges. If you want to eat in the restaurants within the hotell you MUST book earlier to have a seat as the hotel allows outside eaters so walk in option is not a option or you could wait a long time for a table.

Your comments about the additional charges, breakfast offerings, and WiFi service are noted, and we will discuss these with our team to seek improvements. The lack of allergy information on food is a concern, and we will address this to ensure all our guests feel safe and informed about their dining options. We are glad your family had a pleasant experience overall, and we hope to welcome you back in the future to offer you an even better stay. Warm regards, R. De Keyser General Manager

Positive experience: Absolutely stunning location. Stunning views. Reception staff are 10/10 The bar staff need more training in customer service. Bar area stank off piss as the toilets are right there next to the tables ! My table was drity! Also, there are no sauces on tables, an empty bottle of vinegar, and a nearly empty pepper/salt mill. Also i personally think they shouldn't have outside seating area right under the rooms , as it gets very loud and some peole are here to relax and enjoy the view, not listen to others shouting/ dogs barking ect. It is an absolutely stunning location, but there is nothing around here, haha, no shops or fuel stations. The nearest are about 40 min drive.

Positive experience: Booked this as a treat after doing a few munros to rest/recover but did not live up to full expectations. Will breakdown my opinion but must say all staff were great, friendly and attentive. Dog friendly - 5*. Room provided with bed/treats etc and great can eat at main bar with them. Staff- 5*. Can't fault them at all. Room - 3*. Comfortable bed and clean but now showing wear/tear. Shower was diabolical. Zero pressure in Room 210. Was looking forward to a good hot shower and it was just unenjoyable and stressful. Spa/Pool - 1*. Knew facilities were not best out there but even steam room was off. Again booked this hotel for these facilities and just eft disappointed. Not clear you need to take towels from room with you. Spa is in a separate building so had to get re-changed and walk back up to 2nd floor room. Never used to be like this and never stayed in a hotel that does this. Breakfast - 3*. Good selection provided but hot food was barely warm and cold by the time you can finish. Restaurant/Bar - 4*. Reasonably priced given no walkable other options and good quality.

Fantastic experience: Just returned from an excellent break at Loch Rannoch Hotel. Excellent, staff that made the stay a joy. Food was excellent in both the Wild Brownie and Estate Room restaurants. Negative experience: I was very surprised that the reviews were so good. I thought the negative reviews were just people being dramatic. The location and rooms are nice and clean. The food was terrible, the £16 mushroom risotto was tasteless. The internet didn't work for our stay, neither did our TV. We asked multiple times and someone was supposed to come take a look for us, but they never showed up. The spa, pool and sauna are nice enough though. Some of the staff seem friendly but just poorly managed and therefore extremely overpriced for what we experienced. I heard one member of staff berating another in the corridor and continued as I went passed, totally unprofessional and felt sorry for the worker that has to work with a superior like that. Pretty disappointed as it was the last night of our honeymoon and wanted something special, especially for the price.

Fantastic experience: A beautiful view of Schiehallion and Loch Rannoch as you stand at the hotel entrance, which was the start of a great welcome to this property. The service from staff was exceptional, making you feel at home and cared for. The food was lovely, and bar/wait staff were absolute gems. Cannot wait to come back, especially to make use of the Spa and activities they have to offer!

Positive experience: We visited for dinner at the Wild brownie bar. The place is dog friendly and there were plenty of four legged frens visiting. The staff is very lovely but rushed off their feet. We were asked to choose our table ourselves which I think was what they told everyone visiting with their fur babies. We had the smoked salmon which was fantastic and goat cheese tart which was pretty good but portion was small for the price. For main we had prawn linguini and butternut squash fusilli. The veg dish was very bland and far too many sun-dried tomatoes all over the place. The pasta was perfectly cooked but the squash was ‘al dente’ served with fried potatoes peels ?? The best for the last. The dessert was the lemon panacota which was simply amazing. Creamy pannacota with tart and sweet berries sauce just hit it right. Plenty of vegetarian choice. 3 course with drinks and tips was £50pp

Fantastic experience: My family and I visited the hotel on the last weekend of January. We stayed two nights and had booked one of the contemporary family rooms. The room had plenty of space, even with 4 beds (2 double and 2 single beds). The hotel is in a great location on the banks of Loch Rannoch, with a 14min walk into Kinloch Rannoch. The hotel had two of its three restaurants open for dinner, with one open for lunch. Breakfast worked well in the small restaurant and we were lucky enough to get a seat by the window, overlooking the loch. A good selection of continental breakfast, with a larger cooked to order breakfast. While there we also made us of the swimming pool, which worked great and the sauna and steam room available. Good size pool and a good depth for the kids, not too deep basically. The biggest hit was probably the climbing wall within the marina area, where you'll also find a gym and bike hire. Overall a really nice two night stay and the team were fantastic and made us feel really at home.  Somewhere I would be keen to visit in the summer, taking in the water sports and back to the climbing wall

Negative experience: The staff are lovely. I can repeat that again and again. But they are let down by some very systemic faults by the owners. The check in process.....its 3 pm check in, we arrived at 3.30, but had to sit about for 90 mins in reception before our room was ready. We observed each day that many sat about waiting for 2 to 4 hours. This meant the lounge was crowded with people & luggage, waiting to access their rooms, every day. We didn't have our room cleaned during our stay. Partially our fault as we left the Do Not Disturb sign on in the early part of the day, but the cleaners actually didn't get around to our part of the hotel until about 5 pm. Being dark & cold, most would be back in the room by then. Our room stank. The previous occupants obviously had an accident. So our carpet had been washed, but not very well. The room smelt of damp carpet throughout our stay. Restaurants. One is fabulous. Andy waits on you, he is perfect service, the food excellent, I suspect it's franchised. The other restaurant is typical of the area.....captive audience, so fish & chips, burger (awful) & chips, XYZ & chips, all horrendously overpriced. The location is awesome, of course. The gym facilities are brilliant. The swimming pool & sauna are too, but given the market the hotel targets, the pool has lots of kids, most of the time. The hotel also markets itself as very dog friendly. We're dog people, so very supportive. If you are not a dog person, expect dogs. Overall, like a lot of the Highlands, this hotel is in a great location, needs way more staff, rips people off for basic food, but has a very nice restaurant too. Plus, the staff are lovely, but struggling to cope.

S C 1 year ago

Negative experience: Awful experience with a very rude restaurant staff member, who seemed to be having a bad day, rudely declined our request to sit in an area of the breakfast room on our first morning and proceeded to mutter under his breath while wiping tables that he knew how to do his job and we would sit where he told us. He then made our stay as unpleasant as possible at every meal time for 3 days. It was all very strange. The hotel manager appeared genuinely concerned when we complained and asked us to put our experience in writing so he could deal with it appropriately, which we did. I had booked the suite which was meant to be a treat after a difficult time and although the room was lovely, with a balcony looking out over a stunning view our experience totally ruined our stay. We felt really uncomfortable. The manager did initially follow up on our complaint with a suggested resolution but then all went quiet and despite emailing another twice we have heard nothing since. I appreciate sometimes things happen but not to follow up after promising to do so is awful. I do not leave this review lightly but I would never stay there again.

Positive experience: If you are looking for remoteness this is the place for you. Really nicely decorated with Christmas deccies. Swimming pool and spa in a different building and gym in another building, only down side in my view. Bar prices very reasonable, good selection of alcohol. Games room, pool table was broken and snooker table cloth had tears in the felt. Ate in bar area nice menu, not big but good selection. Creme Brulee was nice and deep. Sat beside the fire and played games, it was lovely. Breakfast was continental or pay for cooked. Cooked was tasty and continental had a few choices, some other cheese and ham choices would have been nice, along with sliced tomatoes. Overall had a nice chilled stay, would stay again only negative

Negative experience: We were meant to stay two nights but ended up leaving after one. Service was poor at the best of times. prosecco on arrival was hot and no ice in the ice bucket provided. Food was over priced and not up to that standard. The kicker is dirt and debris in the bathroom and black mould on the shower. Fantastic experience: Lovely old inn. Outstanding staff! We arrived several hours before check-in as we had a flight from Canada that arrived at 6:30 am. We were warmly welcomed to sit in the lounge. Positive experience: On the bank of the Loch Rannoch, the hotel is a wonderful place offering a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. Unfortunately, this is a 4 stars hotel of the lower kind. - Low level of isolation (could hear walking in the room above mine), average level of cleanness (some hairs in a lot of places in the room and bathroom), food experience was definitely not price-worthy, cloudy water of the pool. + staff top of the notch, the location (definitely wonderful Loch), calm, spacious rooms with good lighting, sauna/steam room and spa experience. Overall, I'd say it's definitely overpriced. It is very important to improve the food experience (I've tried both restaurants and the breakfast). And please, remove the room that is above the outside bins from the list of rooms "with a view on the lake", when your view is 75% bins, the disappointment is real.

Positive experience: The hotel is worth the drive off the main road. It is in a beautiful location. The hotel is lovely, the rooms are very comfortable and staff are great. The food is fantastic too. Only gripes are the snooker/pool tables and room need some attention, as does the outdated lift to the rooms - it needs replacing or a service

Fantastic experience: We had an amazing stay at Sunset Beach Resort. The location is perfect, right on the beach with breathtaking sunsets every evening. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. Our room was clean, spacious, and had a stunning ocean view. The on-site restaurant served delicious food, and the pool area was a great place to relax. I can't wait to come back!

Negative experience: Plagued by a crisis of management: I've just finished a three-day break at the beautifully situated Loch Rannoch Hotel. The hotel has a grand entrance, which is well maintained by grounds staff who take great care of the plants and greenery. The interior of the hotel is well decorated with period and localised decorations. Furthermore, signage is good, and facilities in the spa and gym are clean, modern, and easy to use. The food and service within The Estate Room, which holds one AA rosette, are decadent, fairly priced, and satiating. The food within The Brownie Bar (apart from one incident) was tasty and fresh but slightly overpriced, an assessment I'd also apply to the drinks offering. The staff working in food and beverage, domestic, reception, and leisure cannot be faulted, even this late in the season when they are likely to be tired and overworked. Particular credit must go to: Annette, Karen, Sharon and the other ladies on reception, who’s names escape me. However, it pains me to bring what would be a four-star rating down to a one-star rating due to the conduct of the General Manager, Craig and a separate incident of near food poisoning on my final night. After a leisurely lunch, my friend and I wanted to use the games room to enjoy an afternoon of pool. I paid for a token with the friendly receptionist and placed it in the pool table accordingly. However, no balls came out for us to play with. So, to avoid causing a fuss, we decided to play with the red balls on the snooker table instead. Unfortunately, before we could even break the set of balls, an aggressive and unnamed individual entered the room in a '1984-Big Brother' manner and shouted in an aggressive and frankly sarcastic tone, 'What are you doing with my snooker table?' (I'd be interested to know if the GM is a Director with shareholdings and, therefore, ownership of the hotel's assets, I very much doubt it). In response to the GM's sarcasm and shouting, we explained that the pool table hadn't released any balls. He then went on to demand that we go to reception to get it sorted. I asked him who he was, to which he replied, 'I'm Craig, the General Manager.' I asked him if this was something he could deal with directly, to which he replied 'no,' exposing Craig's highly limited customer service and practical skill set and a failure to accept responsibility for all aspects of the hotels function, rather than tasks he wishes to cherry pick. His failure to treat us with basic kindness and reason indicates that this hotel's progress is stifled by a toxic manager who should take lessons on customer service from his subordinates. Our interaction and experience indicates this is the General Managers first management position, I’d therefore recommend some continuing professional development, surrounding hotel and customer management. A problem which surfaced on the final night was the food within The Brownie Bar. My friend and I both enjoyed our starters. My friends burger arrived and my pork schnitzel arrived. Sadly, the schnitzel arrived woefully undercooked and had blood gushing out and appeared like a burnt Englishman in a Spanish resort. I politely asked for a new meal. I was then brought a burger, which was also undercooked. I normally wouldn’t complain about red meat being rare, in fact I enjoy it. But for it not to cause stomach upset, it has to be fresh - which this was not. To finalise, this is a stunning hotel I'd like to return to, if a few improvements were made. But I could never set foot again in the hotel under Craig's, hopefully diminishing, tenure.

Negative experience: Didn't get past trying to book. The website was playing up with the stay rates. I phoned to book and was met with a rude and unhelpful person on reception. Fantastic experience: We didn't stay in the hotel but wanted to use the kayak rental service. As we had never kayaked before we were a bit conscious about the weather. The staff member in the marina however was absolutely brilliant. The day was quite windy and while the wind speed wasn't above legal limit, the person was great at explaining the risks and gave us the choice to go or not. We decided not to but will definitely try and come back another time. Great to see a focus on customer service and safety, over making money. The staff member also then suggested lots of alternatives on things to do in the area.

Robert Bald 2 years ago

Positive experience: Very expensive to buy beer in the hotel. Almost equivalent to city centre prices, over £10 for 2 pints at the bar. Unsmiling and uncommunicative bar employee.

Isabella 2 years ago

Negative experience: We wanted to have a bite at one of the restaurants but were turned down rather unfriendly. There seemed to be enough free tables, but the waiter wanted to keep them for guests of the hotel ONLY. The other restaurant (The Estate Room) Only serves two or three course meals, so I couldn't just have a small plate. This is what I call unhelpful, rather unfriendly and not customer orientated service. The hotel looks nice, but with this kind of service I will not bother.

Harald Zickhardt 2 years ago

Negative experience: The hotel looks quite nice. However, the advertising fails. We just wanted something to eat and were turned away in a very unfriendly way in the bar. This is ONLY reserved for hotel guests. There were plenty of free tables. In the restaurant they wanted to serve us, but we had to pay for a two-course meal. There is no room for small appetites here. The waiter was stubborn. There is no service for the guest. So it's a restaurant with poor service for guests. The advertising fails - at least for guests who are not staying at the hotel.

Fantastic experience: Hard to fault but two massively minor ones ! Hotel is bright fresh and ambient , staff courteous and service attentive and excellent as is the catering . The scenery and the views of the Loch are breathtakingly stunning and if it’s relaxation you are looking for this hotel and location are ideal incorporating a pool and spa and local local walks and water activities and the marina has a gym . Prices were not unreasonable for food and drink . Minor issues , no view of anything interesting out our room window and no drawers within the room . Still gets five stars however in our opinion . It’s a place to go to get away from everything ! See above .

Fantastic experience: We stayed at the hotel for one night; room was a good standard, facilities were also good. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and got a attentive service and the evening meal in the bar was quality pub grub! Portion sizes were excellent, which I really appreciated! :) Hotel staff were great, we had a young child (2) and they were all engaging with him (he is super shy, we appreciated the effort even if he didnt like the attention) Absolutely phenomenal location; we lucked out BIG time with the weather and had an opportunity to explore some of the walks in the local area, but we will be back for more!

Positive experience: Checked in for a family night away. Lovely location and very friendly staff. Rooms were nice and big with decent comfy beds. However we were let down a bit by the evening meal. We had booked a table and on arriving found they didn't have space for us, so had to eat hunched over a coffee table in the drawing room. Food itself was delicious. Special mention for the sticky toffee pudding. Service however was a bit slow and on one occasion had to chase a drinks order to find out it had been forgotten about. Also the bar had run out of coke. A fairly main staple of any drinking establishment and not something you'd expect to be allowed to happen. The pool is adequate but upon exiting the showers weren't working properly so couldn't wash the chlorine off until we got back to the room. Also the changing rooms themselves were freezing.

Negative experience: We have stayed at the studio facilities, family of four, and must say it is more than enough. The service received, however, was very poor for the quality (reputation) of the hotel, which was the reason why we booked here for the Easter holidays. We (Studio rental) didn't have access to the restaurant of the hotel, with no access to the spa/pool facilities either, and nothing was mentioned or disclosed prior to the booking, or even after as a reminder. So we booked 4 start hotel, received nothing of that. So be prepared to just sleep at the studio, and for sure do your own laundry at the end of your stay :)

Negative experience: The hotel is in a beautiful setting, surrounded by probably the best Scotland has to offer. Unfortunately it’s everything else that lets it down. First, the staff. With the exception of 1 or 2 staff we came across, the majority of staff clearly dislike their job and are openly miserable and negative about the hotel which makes you think something isn’t quite right. In the local shop on the day we arrived we overheard a young girl celebrating the fact she wasn’t working at the hotel that day. Our room was nice but old and the shower head had rusted. Essentially none of the facilities will be included in the price of your stay. The very outdated pool with small smelly changing rooms is either packed with screaming children or closed. The steam room was broken and we didn’t use the sauna. Massage was really nice and the girl that did them was very knowledgable and one of the exceptions to the miserable staff. We were really surprised at how expensive the activities were, bike hire was between £40/£60 for 4 hours and kayaking was £30 per person for 2 hours. We walked down to the activities area when we first arrived to be literally asked by staff what we were doing there (as if it was against the rules to be there) and told that it was closed at 4pm, reopening at 5pm. Returned at 6pm to ask if we could play ping pong which they charge you £7 (yes, SEVEN) per hour, and she said she was closed for the evening! This area felt like it catered more towards a kids camp, run from 9-4pm everyday. At the bar, we had a pre dinner drink and bought the special ‘pink lemonade mimosa’ where the miserable bartender literally pulled out a 1L half empty bottle of pink lucozade from the fridge and topped up a tiny Prosecco glass, whilst openly telling his colleague how ‘f***ing sh*t’ his shift had been, then charging me £15 for his flat lucozade cocktail. I did find this whole experience quite amusing. Food at dinner in the estate room and food at breakfast were really good and made up for the above failings. Wild brownie restaurant is like a premier inn restaurant and full of screaming kids and dogs so I’d avoid unless you can eat later on in the evening. Overall, this hotel is CRYING out for a decent manager to get things in shape. Unfortunately the best things to do whilst staying here is to either leave and go into the village / hiking, or eat in.

Positive experience: Lovely hotel in a beautiful location. Very quiet and peaceful in view of Loch Rannoch. Lovely walks all around with the option of hiring bikes. Spa and gym available although separate from the hotel. Had a spa treatment cancelled which was unfortunate and with the pool heater broken and the steam room out of order didnt get to enjoy the spa. However food was lovely, staff were friendly and view from the room was beautiful. Had more than a half hour wait for breakfast in an almost empty restaurant which was not good.

Fantastic experience: hotel has changed hands and has had a very nice makeover. Rooms are changed along with bars and restaurants. Some parts are still old and rustic, but on the whole massive improvement.

Fantastic experience: Lovely traditional Scottish hotel. Very busy when we visited, a good buzz about the place. Very nice, friendly and professional staff who all seemed to genuinely care for the guests. Great food, fine dining in the Estate Room and casual dining in the Wild Brownie pub, both excellent, and good value for money. Great setting. We hired bikes which were well maintained and went round the loch, a day well spent. We will definitely be back, one of the best Scottish hotels we've stayed in.

Positive experience: We booked here for a couple's spa weekend as a gift to my partner. As far as the overall experience went, we really enjoyed our stay. The room was comfortable and clean with small touches, such as toiletries, fresh bottled water each day, and a well stocked tea tray. The only mark down is for the bathroom, which was nice but extremely small, so it was difficult for 2 people to use at once. We got very attentive service throughout our stay, and the staff were friendly and dealt with any requests quickly and with care. We had dinner in the restaurant the first night and lunch in the bar the 2nd day. The food was in general very good, with only one complaint being that whilst being tasty, my partner's risotto was very firm and not what you'd expect for £45 per head for dinner. We didn't feel strongly enough to send it back, but a risotto should not be a vegetarian afterthought, which is sadly the norm in many restaurants. A further aspect is that we were really looking forward to a relaxing break using the spa pool, sauna, and steam room. One big negative was that whilst the treatments we received were very good, the spa pool was constantly full of families with children, like you'd expect at any average public pool, which was not what we'd expect for what we'd been sold - 'a relaxing couples spa weekend' - meaning that we didn't use the pool or the sauna located next to it, mainly because of the noise and general atmosphere. The hotel should seriously consider time limiting the use of the pool by families with children if they're going to continue to sell the hotel as a place where you can go for a relaxing spa break. We would certainly return to the hotel for a short break, but would go elsewhere for a spa weekend, which is unfortunate, because the hotel is lovely and perfect for a weekend getaway, and would otherwise be 5 stars across the board.

Fantastic experience: Really cant fault this hotel or staff , they are so friendly and welcoming, high standard of food in the restaurant and the bar food great as well. No complaints, beautiful clean heritage room , beautiful views - stunning walks , and cycling opportunities- almost as good as our favourite auchrannie resort- we cant wait to return . Well done to the management - you have a wonderful , respecable , high trained team , hope you cherish them , they deserve a pat on the back thank you , see you again soon with family in tow

Fantastic experience: Visited the bar and lounge several times for meals and/or drinks while staying at Loch Rannoch Highland Club lodge. Hotel mobbed at the weekend, great atmosphere, quite during week.

Fantastic experience: We absolutely loved our stay at the Loch Rannoch Hotel. Beautiful rooms and scenery, it was absolutely worth upgrading to a Loch view room. Staff were great and really attentive. Loads of great facilities to make use of, we wish we'd stayed for longer!

Positive experience: Visited this hotel at new year and it was lovely! Most of the staff were very accommodating and great to talk to although a couple of the more senior staff seemed ignorant and unorganised. I understand that new year can be hectic but it seemed unorganised and I had also overheard that one staff member had abandoned their shift. Overall a great stay, wonderful location, very attentive staff for the most part.

Fantastic experience: Went for my husband's birthday. Initially thought it was part of McDonald's hotels. Very obvious when we got there it most certainly is not. The place is incredible. Well done to the new owner (Mr Pattie) you have made a fantastic transformation of the hotel. Dining room is an absolute dream. All staff were fantastic, particularly dining room/bar staff, they couldn't do enough for you. The chef/kitchen staff - food was outstanding, very tasty! We'll be back in January 23

Fantastic experience: Fantastic stay at this tranquil hotel set on the shores of Loch Rannoch. The staff were very welcoming upon arrival which was quite late at night. The food was really tasty and good sized portions. Matt served us most nights in the bar and he's a credit to the holiday, fantastic lad. The facilities were great, pool room, bike hire, spa, pool, gym and loch sports to name a few, and all to hand within a short walk in the complex. By far the best place to stay in the Rannoch area.

Fantastic experience: We really enjoyed our stay at Loch Rannoch Hotel and Estate. The Heritage Loch view rooms are gorgeous- highly recommend spending a little more money to get the views across the loch. Staff were generally very friendly and polite. Breakfast options were tasty.

Positive experience: Staff were lovely. Food wasn't bad and has a selection of beer (mainly lagers). Spa is perfect after a day on the hills. Would have been 4 stars but there was no wifi in the room and the water pressure in the shower was poor.

Fantastic experience: We had a great time, it’s a bit out of the way and that’s why we chose it. Service was very good, staff friendly and very helpful, food and drinks reasonably priced, food very tasty. Entertainment on Wednesday night was superb frank sinatra type songs live singer not too loud at all and very talented, sitting in whisky bar with the fire lit , amazing. Hotel has been modernised in 2021, rooms are well sized and catered, iron, hairdryer in place but no fridge. Rooms quiet even with dogs allowed we had great sleeps, no disturbances. Staff are very young and I’m assuming living onsite as they are always there, very friendly and polite. Pool sauna and steam room were excellent.

Negative experience: We didn't stay in the hotel but nearby in the lodges, watch out if dinning here the menus posted on the website are an example only and may not be what is available when eat. the cost of drinks is really high, £9 for a large house wine and the same for a single measure of a supermarket available 12yo single malt, the food was disappointing and of low quality, it was obvious there were lots of new staff as dinner service was disorganised, we had booked dinner well in advance of our stay and were told to be sharp when keeping to our reservation yet on arrival no table was set for us 20 mins later we were seated.

Fantastic experience: Went for a family vacation over the September Weekend booking 2 separate rooms. The rooms were clean, well decorated and cosy. The staff were all friendly, helpful and efficient. We eat in the Wild Brownie bar restaurant both nights. The meals were well presented and well cooked. They had supplier problems (who hasn't over the past months) with there drinks order for bar but found something to drink with plenty of choice. I would highly recommend the stay and you certainly won't be disappointed.

Fantastic experience: Splendid place to stay, with good facilities - spa, loch access, etc. Let down a little by the cramped room size. Bathroom barely had room for a cat, let alone to swing one. Dinner was excellent, however.

Fantastic experience: I did not have high expectations for the massage I had booked at this spa (I usually have sports massages by soft tissue therapists) but the Swedish massage I had with Joy was exceptional. Not at all the usual lacklustre massage you get at hotels! She really got into the trigger points and got the pressure just right for me. Absolutely superb. Pool/sauna a bit dated/shabby but the massage room was lovely.

Negative experience: Fine dining it was certainly not £35 pounds for two course, the Ham hough terine was so dry it must have been made days before, ordered hake and mussels took me 5 minutes to find them , still hungry so went next door to bar , and got fish and chips 100 times better and half the price

Negative experience: We didn't stay here but we definitely wouldn't consider it. We stopped off for food and a drink but decided against it after we met the staff who I can only assume have never left the hotel because they lack people skills and were rude and abrupt as soon as we spoke to them. Also heard other people passing saying the same things. They definitely need to train their staff in manners and customer service. Being a 4 star hotel doesn't mean you have to look down your nose at people who were quite happy to pay your prices until you opened your mouths.

Negative experience: We weren't staying at the hotel so were asked to come at 5.30 as the restaurant was fully booked with guests. When we arrived for our reservation at the Wild Brownie there were no other guests eating but a few tables of drinks only. I ordered an Aperol Spritz but was told that there were no cocktails available due to staff shortages. I thought strangely of this as there isn't much difference between an aperol spritz and a wine spritzer or a lager shandy but settled for a cola. We were served our meals and, with the exception of garlic bread which was only toasted on one side, the food was lovely. We were left alone and weren't offered any other drinks. A different server came over at the end of our meal who was lovely but at that point we were waiting to pay. I was disappointed to look at the bar a few times and see both bar staff on their phones despite being too busy to make an Aperol Spritz. Nobody else was in to eat during our entire meal either so the three servers were, at times, sat down. I thought it would be more logical to enforce this policy when the venue was genuinely busy. Overall, the food was nice enough but the service led us to finish our meals and head for home.

Positive experience: This place is set in a stunning location with extraordinary views over the Loch and of the neighbouring mountain Schiallion. We were there to celebrate a friends 40th Birthday and our stay was very enjoyable. We stayed in the Red Squirrell Lodge which was 2 bedroom with one on the level you walk in at and one downstairs. The living/kitchen area is large and spacious and we comfortable had 14 people there for the birthday celebrations. Off the living room is a balcony area which feels more like a conservatory on stilts as it fully covered but has patio doors which open up to let you take advantage of the stunning views. The lodge we were in was really nice even if it was a bit dated in terms of decor. One of the other families attending the festivities stayed in another lodge which had recently been renovated and was a step ahead of the one we had which is why I only rate the place 4 stars. We payed the same price yet their lodge felt like an upgrade on ours. There is loads to do at the activity centre from paddle boarding to climbing walls, squash courts to table tennis. You won't run out of things to do but the activity centre was unmanned on our first day there and even although there was a phone number to call if there was nobody there we didn't get an answer which was slightly disappointing. I would recommend booking your activities before arrival to ensure you are not left disappointed. All in all a magical place and we would definitely return. Just a few minor details need improving.

Negative experience: We arrived on the 22/08/2022 . On arrival in our room the toilet was dirty, then we wanted to make tea and the inside of kettle was mouldy. The mattress is very old . The food is horrendous. They claim to be 4star hotel but in fact no stars would be a better description.

Fantastic experience: Family stop , schihallion in the background and nearby . Lovely staff friendly chatty we had swim and walk ,dinner and very comfy sleep in family room. Despite hotel being busy with alot of guests the design and the staff made it seem quiet and serene . We had a lovely time would definitely go back for a family or couples treat. ( Breakfast great too )

Fantastic experience: Had an amazing 2 night stay celebrating my partners 30th. I had booked the Rannoch suite which did not disappoint. An 8 foot bed and our own private balcony where we enjoyed a complimentary bar! We lucked out with the weather and the fella at the leisure club was excellent and sorting us out with paddle boards. We had dinner at the estate room on the first night and wild brownie on the second night. Liam our waiter was great at dealing with my gfs nut allergy and made her feel safe enough to eat. Overall lots to do and amazing scenery. We will be back!

Negative experience: All in all shockingly bad Hotel. We where sat at a very dirty table. I placed my hand on the table right into a big puddle of ketchup. The waitress seemed unfazed by this and did not come back to clean the table. Instead she returned 10 Minutes later to ask again what we've ordered for drinks. The cutlery was dirty (with little parts sticking to the fork). The whine glass of my partner was dirty and smudged. The food was bad at best. The water glasses in our room where also filthy. For breakfast I ordered scrambled eggs: These where the WORST scrambled eggs I've ever had. I didn't know you could make eggs in a way in which there is no taste at all, consistency is rubbery and the dish was unsalted and making me slightly sick. This 'food' must have been prepared hours in advance (or was it leftover from the day before?). We checked out after a night of our planned 3-day stay. At least we got the money back for the remaining two days. Food: poor Service: poor (exept the lady at reception!) Cleanliness: horrible Spa: it's only a pool, when booking ask if it is actually open or not Avoid at (almost) all costs.

Fantastic experience: I stayed at the Highland club close by but used the bar and leisure facilities. The food and drink in the bar was a bit pricey but very good. The Marina is new . Lloyd, Sabina and Tom down there are doing an excellent job getting the place up and running with plenty to do on and off the water.

Fantastic experience: All staff members were exellent, the accomodation was spacious and comfortable and the food was amazing. Beautiful views from the room.
