PureGym Burgess Hill

Negative experience: Way too small, cheap equipment, very poor online customer service. The studio isn't really one and it gets packed. Staff is really helpful though. It's a shame about online customer service, you can't even talk to a real person! Won't be going there again. Avoid puregym for it's extremely unhelpful online customer service.

Positive experience: I bought a puregym lock from some other branch but it's not compatible with the lockers here. Shouldn't that be standardized accross all branches?

Fantastic experience: Equipment: 8 or so adjustable benches, dumbbells to 50kg, fixed barbell bench, fixed incline bench, hip drive, plate loaded shoulder and chest press, 2 fixed squat racks but then a functional area with 4 rack stations inc area for deadlift, plate loaded leg press, lots of pin loaded machines and cable machines and huge amount of cardio equipment. Changing rooms with showers, bring your own padlock.

Fantastic experience: Perfect classes and perfect atmosphere. Trainers are very professional and they teach in the classess with very much individual attention. Charleigh and Sam are the best trainers. Thanks !!

Positive experience: Good but: No paper towels available on top floor where all the treadmills are. Concept 2 machines need dust hovered out as they have very low drag factors(Google it if unsure of what Im talking about).

Negative experience: Diluting sanitising spray, paper towel dispensers sometimes empty. When equipment is defective it takes weeks to repair.

Fantastic experience: Love this Class it’s one of my favourite and Tim was very clear on direction which is help as this was the first time in a while I’d done the class.

Fantastic experience: Love Noel’s classes, they are tough but that makes you feel even more satisfied when you smash out the reps. His different routines for each class stands him out for other classes on offer at pure gym. Would highly recommend for those who love a challenge.

Fantastic experience: Excellent Body Pump class with Natasha! Only 30 minutes but covers a lot & you choose your weights so work at your own level. Great instructor too.

Positive experience: I have been going to this gym for over a year now, and I quite enjoy working out there for few reasons such as 24/7 access, friendly staff members, friendly community, showers and water fountain. I don’t think anyone needs more than this. HOWEVER: Equipment is quite low quality, and I am talking about the machines. The cable machines can break easily and it takes quite a long time to have them fixed. If you enjoy barbell and dumbbell work, you won’t have any problems as there are plenty of barbells and dumbbels for everyone! There is one problem which really puts me off and discourages me from working out “harder than last time” and that is no safety bars on racks. The gym has 4 racks in the middle(which can be used for anything like squat, OHP or bench) with NO safety bars available, and 2 other squat racks,close to these 4, with non-adjustable safety bars. These bars are so low I think they were made for gnomes. Regardless, you are not safe if you want to squat to failure unless you have 3-6 spotters. If this gym had safety bars as attachments it would be the best low cost gym in the area no doubt. I rate it 4 stars because it has a really good community, and I never had any problems with the staff or other members of the club. We can get around the occasional broken cable machines but PLEASE get safety bars!! IT IS FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR COSTUMERS!

Negative experience: OK gym with all the basic equipment. It's quite small and often crowded. There's not enough machines that makes you work on your abs and some are just not adjustable enough to fit. Equipment feels cheap. I only go there as it's convenient for now but definitely not the best gym I've been to.

Fantastic experience: The neurodivergent friendly gym! Low sensory atmosphere with calm acoustics (except during classes so avoid) and muted colours, not too many mirrors. Plenty of equipment so not much waiting around.

Negative experience: Recently moved to the area from Brighton was keen to find a new gym closer rather then travel into Brighton however I found Poor, cheap equipment rock hard benches that are slippery compared to the my old Gym in Brighton the Gym was over crowded and parking was a nightmare. Showers were dirty and had hair everywhere. I have now gone back to my old Gym in Brighton the travel is a pain but it’s worth it for the environment and far superior equipment

Positive experience: Great gym but busy often. Also showers are luke warm then turned off after 11pm. Equipment is kept in very good condition. Good staff.

Negative experience: I have to finally say this because things like this shouldn't be allowed in the gym! it's about the women's toilet the mold in the sink smells terrible from there and the showers are full of mold!! excuse me but someone has to take care of this not why I pay almost £30 a month to go into a moldy ladies room!!

Positive experience: Whilst it is a great gym with all the kit you need, it is not great for someone who does a 9-5. Mornings are better, but evenings, especially from 4, are full of young teenagers huddling in their groups and socialising rather than utilising the equipment. Honestly I think under 18s should be banned from pure gym UNLESS they taking working out seriously

Fantastic experience: I love the gym is open 24 hours and fits perfectly around my shift work! I like walking in and just instantly feel like working out even if it did take will power to get me to the place first, lol .

Negative experience: After coming here for the past 3 months, unfortunately I have to say will not be staying much longer. If you work a 9-5 like me, and need to visit the gym in the busy hours, good luck finding any equipment, and you can forget about following any sort of a routine. There is just simply not enough machines, weights or benches to go around. The gents changing rooms also smell quite badly of urine, and the showers do not seem very clean. If you DO NOT work a 9-5, definitely consider it.

Positive experience: The Burgess Hill pure gym is good value (compared to the triangle) but it has some problems. Peak times are just too busy as it's become so popular. Parking is difficult. And recently it's become overrun with groups of teenagers. During these times it doesn't feel welcoming.

Fantastic experience: Great space, equipment & parking. Low monthly membership, and open 24/7. Something for everyone.

Positive experience: Not enough mirrors to check form. Not enough of the popular weight machines during peak hours. Not enough plates to go around. Machine weight limits quite low. Machines not designed for tall people. I’m 6’ 7” and struggled to fit on most of the machines. If you want to lift heavy go to Fitz gym It is clean, tidy and well presented.

Negative experience: Terrible customer service. Staff in the gym have been disinterested in feedback and one is outright hostile. Reporting faulty equipment via Facebook doesn’t work either as I just got a telling off for not reporting it to the (disinterested) staff in the gym, even though I’d already tried that.

Negative experience: The pure gym app membership is ridiculous and a rip off, they arbitrarily don't allow access to random gyms in random locations for no other reason than to try and make you upgrade once you get there if you have access to every gym in the surrounding area why would you not have access to this one it's not in a different location so even if you have a multi gym pass you still won't have access for no other reason than to try and get more money out of you

Fantastic experience: About a year ago I had a mental breakdown and ended up in hospital for 4 weeks and was diagnosed with a few mental disorders. I joined this gym and it was perfect. The app shows you how many people are in the gym, so you can go when it’s quiet if you are self conscious, the equipment is well looked after and cleaned after every use and the staff are really helpful. Having this gym available to me really helps and lets me forget about the world.

Negative experience: Growing less satisfied as time goes on, at first it was ‘adequate’ albeit avoiding peak times was prudent, however, it is fast becoming extremely oversubscribed and is sometimes full of brash, boisterous, ‘loud’ groups of younger members who all crowd around the machines talking, or throwing weights or attachments around inappropriately etc. Gym etiquette needs to be monitored a bit more closely because it can be very annoying and is a problem waiting to happen.

Negative experience: The gym itself is really neat, tidy and clean, with a fairly good range of equipment although only having one bench press is ridiculous, and there isn't sufficient squat racks either. But the most frustrating thing has to be, training at peak times is borderline impossible -- in the morning or in the evening it is absolutely rammed. I am writing this review now and there is just shy of 90 people in there and that will be the case until gone about 9pm. The only time you can feasibly train in there is between 9:30 -- 11:30am & 2:30 -- 4:30pm. If you can't hit one of those windows, I honestly wouldn't bother. I am actively looking for alternative gyms because of this problem.

Positive experience: Needs another standard Bench Press, always a wait

Positive experience: Good gym overall, clean, nice atmosphere. Only reason it doesn’t get a 5 star is because it can get pretty busy at times which is quite disruptive to a workout but the app does mean you can get live updates on how many people are in at a given time to help plan your visit.

Fantastic experience: Great gym, well equipped, clean, lots of space. Great PTs and classes. Free parking. What more can you ask for?

Negative experience: I came over to pure gym over lock down since it was the only gym open, it was great. Prices were brilliant, 24hrs were great, and the drinks machine was an added bonus! I've been to a few Pure Gyms (Brighton and Horsham) and like a lot of them and the company ethos, however with Burgess Hill I found it was too open, everyone can see everyone, however the main issue was lack of friendly faces. Staff weren't keen to come and talk to you, or help you. In fact actually they were impossible to find! They don't floor walk. Floor walking is important at a gym, for many reasons but most importantly from a health and safety point of view. I've heard insiders gossip that the staff don't get a very good pay rate unless they are PTs - so this would explain why we can't ever find them. They're always with someone, either that or gathered in the back office. It took me three attempts to go in there to eventually find a member of staff to get some help with my membership.

Negative experience: Gym is fine but admin of classes is very unprofessional. You book a class, attend, the instructor takes your name and then you get a snotty email telling you off for missing the class you attended. If you are a regular class attender eventually you get banned from booking classes for missing classes you have not missed. Unacceptably incompetent.

Fantastic experience: Great gym just too far from Uckfield to go regularly.

Positive experience: It was good fun watching people go into the gym, paying 50 quid a month for something that you can do for free outside in the fresh air! I guess they like looking at themselves in the mirrors?!

Fantastic experience: This gym is great but can someone please change the opening hours for Saturday and Sunday of this gym? It says it shuts at 8pm when it shuts at 4pm! I made that mistake when I went there before 8pm and it was closed!

Fantastic experience: Good to get back in the gym, good range of equipment still available even with social distancing, several cleaning stations around for you to clean down after use. So a worthwhile workout had.

Positive experience: The facilities here are well maintained and there's a good selection, although disappointingly some equipment isn't catered for, such as an ab roller or weight belt which are given in most gyms of this price range. I believe you can purchase an ab roller on the Puregym website, which is most likely the reason they don't supply one on site. Some of the staff here don't seem to be particularly friendly I've noticed, which is disappointing, but not uncommon in gyms. If you like to get in and out without too much contact with staff members or other gym goers then this gym will probably suit you. It's rare that you have to wait too long to get on a piece of equipment. I think they are handling the post lockdown cleaning really well and most everyone seems to be observing the rules.

Fantastic experience: Nice place, very clean and well maintained. Lots of equipment with disabled access. Can get very very busy so I would recommend going in off peak hours as it's the cheapest gym around from experience.

Fantastic experience: I've been a member of this gym since opening day and I like it a lot. I use the gym five times a week. It does get busy and I use the app to see how full the gym is. I currently attend very early in the morning so I can get in, exercise and get out before starting my work day.

Positive experience: Decent gym that I could use. New kit and large facility. The issue though is that the gym has taken over the car park even members of the gym are struggling to park. A shame but it has not been thought out properly. Will be avoiding and also a shame for Halfords as I will not be able to go there any more due to this new gym. Maybe Halfords will close down in due course and the gym can expand next door. It would work better that way but for now, it is not sustainable.
