Negative experience: The gym has turned into a dump, children break the exercise machines because they lift heavy weights and then just dropped this weight down. I personally saw how one child lifted dumbbells that were bigger than his body. Everyone who works out professionally knows that these children will not achieve any results because their bodies are not ready for this yet. Their bodies have not yet formed muscles. Those who work in the gym should monitor this so that no one breaks the exercise machines, but they just look at this and remain silent, I understand that they do not care, but I pay for my membership and want to work out, but the most important exercise machines are broken and no one cares about this. A lot of people have changed gyms because it is impossible to work out. I understand that this is all because of money, but then at least make a schedule for everyone, for example children from 8-16 and then for adults from 16-22. You will never be able to understand this because you do not work out in the gym. I come to the gym to work out, not to sit on a bench and text someone every 2 minutes. The staff is supposed to monitor what's going on in the gym, not stay silent. People smoke vapers right during workouts, what kind of mess is this? Why does no one care what's going on?

Negative experience: I paid for my daughter’s swimming lessons over the phone £65 . I was told to come on Wednesdays and 12pm. I went two Wednesdays and I was told there was no lessons. Since then I have been trying to call them to know exact time and days for lesson but no one answers the question honestly. It’s as if I they have scammed me. I need my money back .

Negative experience: Don’t appreciate Jacob shouting at me in front of all the other parents in public. If you have a problem speak to me politely and certainly don’t threaten to put my child elsewhere and walk away. Do they not teach you basic customer service and communication skills.?? Clearly not. This isn’t the last of this complaint. How dare you speak to me as a parent like you did. Absolutely unacceptable! Goldfish 2 Thursday 415. At the time of writing this review, my child is on 94% with 1 element to complete to take him to 100%. Today, I got told forcefully and in unacceptable manner in full public by Jacob ‘HE IS NOT LISTENING’. Jacob, correct me if I’m wrong, but you are a ‘teacher’ and if he’s clearly not getting the last element your teaching him, your clearly not engaging him or your clearly getting it wrong in your manner. I observe from the balcony every session, tonight was no exception. Was it a long day Jacob, or you just couldn’t be bothered??! Some children don’t grasp it first time, second time and so forth, that’s why it’s called ‘teach’ your clearly in the wrong job. How dare you threaten me to move him elsewhere! Who gives you the right to do that and how dare you speak to me in the manner you did. Please don’t start a conversation and then walk away. I am the customer and you are the ambassador for the leisure centre clearly an UN ACCEPTABLE ambassador tonight. You keep teaching until they get it! Don’t take the shoddy easy way out and label the child as a ‘non listener’ and threaten to move him! Absolutely shocking! You have tonight mentally knocked my 9 year old son’s confidence to shreds!

Positive experience: Been a member for over a decade here, always feel it’s well run, clean and lots of choice for exercise, but, myself and speaking to many other gym users it’s becoming a concern now just how long treadmills are out of action for, currently there are now 4 of 12 out of action and let’s be honest, at least 2 have been down over a month, you pay a monthly price to be able to workout as best suits and it’s often difficult to even get on a treadmill as it is now, can we have some urgency to see defective equipment repaired/replaced as right now it’s getting ridiculous.

We have had word from them that they are aiming to come and fit the parts next week so hopefully they should return to full action by the end of next week. Negative experience: I am writing to express my concern about the decline in the cleanliness of the general and men's changing rooms. Today, when I entered the changing rooms, I was met with an very unpleasant odor. I believe that management should prioritize addressing this issue, as it was not a problem in the past. To ensure a hygienic environment, the changing rooms should be cleaned multiple times a day using appropriate fragrances and disinfectants.

Negative experience: Just saw a kid vomit in the pool. The lifeguard slowly wandered over to get a scoop and then handed it to the kid’s dad. The dad then scooped up what little bit of vomit that was still visible and handed it to the lifeguard. The sick kid was then allowed to stay in the pool to swim and no one in there was made aware of what just happened. How is this not a bio hazard?! I’m truly horrified. There are so many children here having swimming lessons and if my son wasn’t in the small pool at the time, I would have run down and grabbed him out. Disgusting!
Thank you for your comment. The centre management team have confirmed that a child who was swimming on Monday was sick due to swallowing a small amount of water. The child’s father who was in the swimming pool with their child said to the lifeguard that he would help to remove the sick with the scoop to do it as quickly as possible so that activities could continue as normal. Where a child is sick due to swallowing water, as happened on this occasion, then the process is to remove the visible pieces of sick in the pool and the staff then increase disinfection levels within the pool. The levels of disinfection kill any bacteria from a child being sick and renders the sick particles harmless as a result. The smaller particles of sick that cannot be removed with a scoop or basket, are filtered through the pool filtration system in two ways. The first is through deck level pool filters that surface level water runs through to remove surface debris, and secondly, through underwater outlets, that remove particles from underwater/lying on the floor of the pool. We also carry out a backwash of the pool to clean the water and the filters. This was completed Monday night upon closure of the swimming pool and it confirmed that the pool water had returned to normal. It is not standard practice to close a pool in this instance, but to follow the above steps instead and inform people within the vicinity of what has happened. If however a child is sick due to being poorly and is because of a virus, we would instantly close the pool to the public and complete the procedure for cleaning the pool water accordingly. We can assure you that we take the cleanliness of pool very seriously and follow correct processes/procedures to keep pool water clean and safe for people to swim in. Hi Nicole, We pride ourselves on delivering good customer service so we’re sorry to read of your frustrations. We’re currently in the summer holidays and the centre is busier than normal as we run a programme of activities for children and young people alongside the usual group exercise classes, swim timetable etc. At some times of the day, this can mean that the reception team are busy serving customers face-to-face in centre. Please can we ask you to contact the manager at [email protected] with more information about the problems that you are having with group exercise classes? Group exercise classes are available for members to book 8 days in advance of the class taking place so if you can give us more a little more about the classes you are struggling with so we can look into this for you? Membership can be cancelled at any time. There is a 30 day notice period of cancellation but you can notify us at any time if you wish to cancel. When we receive your email, a member of the team will be able to contact you directly.

Negative experience: My twins were booked for a non swimmers lesson with a holiday voucher with packed lunch included. No one there to greet them or my husband and there was a mix up with times. Also no packed lunch was provided. No one around to ask at all.

Negative experience: My son in law is moving to Inverness and wanted to cancel his subscription. He even took his new tenancy agreement to show staff at Heywood. Staff refused to close his subscription and when he said that he would stop his direct debit, they told him that he would be chased for the funds. What kind of organisation is Rochdale local authority running. The contract states that a person has to give a month notice unless moving house or illness. They can't even comply with their own regulations. Very rude staff and very officious. Disgusting behaviour

Negative experience: Worked here until they wanted us to empty bins with dog watse and No Risk Assesment ... I SOON Walked out as doing these duties were the worst kind of degrading thing you can ask any person to do especially when the bag breaks and all the dog waste goes all over the floor which is no fault of the Staff... I Hated working here but the Staff were like family but the Management were very weak indeed
On reading the items that you refer to in your review and a further review in your profile in which you reference an alternate employee, can we check that you were a direct employee of Your Trust working from Heywood Sports Village? Your Trust are an independent charity who manage Heywood Sports Village (and other venues across the borough) on behalf of Rochdale Borough Council. We don't ask our staff (Your Trust) to empty dog waste bins as we don't have any located around the centre. The external bins located close to the Astro Turf pitches do occasionally have dog waste in them but if staff are required to empty these, there is a risk assessment in place for this, two members of staff complete the job and appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is provided to carry out the task.

Negative experience: This place need to sort out the staff very rude to my 6 years old kid asked for lettle plastic to help him can swim, and they were racism to others black women who could not speak English I saw them all by myself, staff were very poor

Your mention of racism is something that we take extremely seriously and not something that we have ever received before about the centre team as our team enjoy meeting and speaking to all members and customers everyday in the centre. Please could you contact us directly by speaking to the management team in centre or emailing [email protected] with details of what you allegedly witnessed? We understand from the team that when asked, they advised that we were unable to lend your child equipment as it is used for the Swim Academy swimming lessons and not available for use by the general public. You would've been advised that equipment was available to purchase from reception for your child's personal use.

Here at Heywood Sports Village, we pride ourselves on delivering the very best customer service and try to ensure that our users go away with their expectations not only met, but in some circumstances, exceeded. We fully appreciate your frustration when our telephones lines are busy and appear not to get answered. However with this in mind, we would like to explain the reasoning behind queries not being dealt with and what we are doing to try and resolve: 1. We are experiencing a higher volume of calls, which has meant that we are not as prompt at answering phone calls, as we would normally be. When we are able to answer the telephone calls, on average, due to the complexities of enquiries coming in, our reception team are spending 10-12 minutes per call. 2. We are also experiencing higher volume of people coming into the centre, needing the receptionists help or other members of staff help. Whilst we understand people need help on the telephones or may have a query, as part of customer service, we will always speak to people face to face first, to resolve any issues or book items for customers. To ensure that we get better at the above points, specifically, during peak times, we have committed additional resources to answering telephone calls only, in an attempt to ensure that they are answered much more promptly. Positive experience: I use the gym and sauna facilities. Very clean and very modern equipment. £30 a month is not too bad of a price as this includes swimming.

Fantastic experience: My two sons and step daughter use the gym ans swimming pool regularly the love and it keeps them off the streets its only £12.50 a month and you can cancel at any time
Fantastic experience: Only used the pool here no complaints clean, lifeguards do there job even if it makes them the fun police, my niece was asked to remove her mask because it covered her nose, it was in-between goggles and snorkel mask, essentially goggles with a rubber skirt. She hates water up her nose it spoiled the rest of her swim shed been wearing them half hr or so but rules are rules
