Our comment from FitFit UK about Holme Pierrepont Country Park, home of The National Water Sports Centre:

Holme Pierrepont Country Park, home to The National Water Sports Centre, is a fantastic destination for families and watersports enthusiasts alike. Visitors have enjoyed their time here, praising the excellent facilities and variety of activities available. The site features a stunning regatta lake, cycling paths, and a range of exciting offerings including white water rafting, mini golf, and the thrilling Lagoon Wipeout.

Many guests have highlighted the clean and spacious rooms available for accommodation, along with helpful staff who contribute to a welcoming atmosphere. The countryside setting adds to the appeal, making it an excellent spot for picnics and nature walks.

However, some visitors have pointed out a few areas for improvement. A common concern is the high prices for activities and food, with several guests finding the cafe offerings overpriced and the food quality lacking. Moreover, there have been reports of confusion over parking fees, which has led to fines for some unsuspecting guests. Additionally, certain activities, such as the archery sessions, have received critiques for being unorganized.

Despite these drawbacks, Holme Pierrepont Country Park remains a popular choice, particularly for those looking to participate in water-based activities, enjoy the great outdoors, and create lasting family memories.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant one night stay, as worked at an Event at Colwick Hall, will defiently return.

Positive experience: Lovely spot went for a cycle ride along the slalom course and then around the rowing lake. Rowing lake path is very flat. Downside was no cafe open so no lunch

Fantastic experience: Great place for water spots (obviously) they have a great gym loads of parking. I had a single room very basic but comfortable. Got a kettle tea , coffee ,shower USB charger in wall sockets. I booked a room and went to a gig in Nottingham so it was perfect for what I needed . The main gates close at midnight but they give you a phone number and the night manager will come and let you in ...Great service. Would I stay again absolutely but next time would like to try more of their amenities looks a lot of fun .

Negative experience: Cancelled our booking for white water rafting 27/9/24 with less than an hours notice. Made no attempt to contact me as promised to rebook or refund and now not responding to multiple attempts to contact them. Beware of booking at times of the year when the weather is unpredictable or you may end up in the same situation and out of pocket.

Positive experience: I think Holme Pierrepont Country Park is a fabulous facility all round but maybe some tweaks are needed.. In particular the archery sessions.. The session I booked for my son and five of his friends was on an activity pass with high ropes, mini golf and archery.. Reasonably priced at £20.00 each.. The problem came in the archery session which was a bit unorganised but eventually organised in the end. Mixing adults with children is an utterly stupid! idea.. You should have them separate.. The end of the arrows are not pointy (thank goodness) but there is a round bit of hard plastic at the end.. My son who is 9 was shot in the stomach by an adult and was brought down on his knees from the pain. He was certainly winded.. My son isn’t one to cry easily so it must of hurt for him to cry like he did. The man who shot him was quite apologetic and checked on him along with a member of staff which I was grateful for.. I later found out from my son that the man in question said my son walked/ran into the arrow.. ‍♀️.. what a ridiculous thing to say.. Anyway that’s my opinion… So all I would say to anyone with kids, beware who the kids are playing archery with as a man’s strength certainly has more power than a child and your child may get hurt.

Positive experience: Went there for the national dragon boat championship (rowing lake). Did not stay at the hotel. The location is good and it’s nice to have decent toilet and changing facilities. The biggest gripe is the food and drink. A small white coffee was £4 (more than the main chains medium size) and lunch was £13! for quite basic food.

Negative experience: On visiting the park for the first time as a blue badge holder. I googled about blue badge parking. It said first 3 hours are free. This is not true. Even tho a small sign on the right half way in says free parking. Apparently not. You must read the sign on the entrance/exit. Very confusing. Parking should be made more simple and not to catch you out in order to give you a £60 fine. We only visited our grandchildren playing. Also very disappointed with the tatty unclean cafe outdoor area with broken chairs and a lick of paint wouldn't go a miss. I would give it a wide birth with how expensive and worn out the Play areas are. Just another rip off park area. Definitely wouldn't go or recommend. AVOID

Hi Steve, thank you for your review. We will look into the sign you mentioned, as in our country park carpark it is all charged for for each visit unless you have a specific car parking, gym or water sports monthly membership.

Fantastic experience: Peaceful camp site just out of town with short walk to bus stop.....

Rebecca Mackenzie 1 year ago

Negative experience: I was there as a spectator, the cafe there was horrendous, over priced & Lord only knows what the 'food' was that they were serving. It's a sports facility, maybes fresh food would be an idea. I didn't know bottled salsa was a thing, or bottled guacamole, a thing so green it looks radioactive. I wanted to contribute to the services on offer, I was wrong to do that. Will defo will be taking my own food next time.

Mini land rovers was There could also better public transport links on a Saturday

Positive experience: A fantastically placed site. Very busy on the weekends but reasonably quiet during the week. I was disappointed when we arrived that noone came to show us the pitch, it took a couple of attempts despite the map to work out where we were supposed to be. Despite the site being very upto date the cleanliness of the showers and toilets was disappointing. Sanitary bins not emptied over the weekend. No mop in the showers which meant the floors were filthy with mud and grass from the previous occupant. There was also no hair drier available in the showers, which seemed like a basic they had missed. I also wish the family/ disabled showers had been more clear on their maps as we didn't discover these until our last night. Showering 2 under 6's in their small cubicles could have been much easier if info was clearer, or as I say if there was someone more willing to speak when you arrive. However, if you're just here for access to water sport, it is amazing. Barely a ten minute walk to the regatta lake and then access to all the other activities.

Negative experience: Stayed there recently. Disgusting rooms stink of sweat, foisty and damp. cannot drink the water. Bathroom dirty. Sealent around shower was grimey and black. Security was a great guy. Cheap and cheerful, but the cleaners / centre manager should be held to account for the poor state of the place. Not well managed. Woman called val there is extremely rude and far from helpful. Rooms are red hot and no way of cooling them down other than to open the windows. If you are in a twin room and you sleep in the bed near the window you have to fight with the weighted blue curtains that hang down over the window cil and over the bed. view over the car park - which is great to see foxes during the night.

Shim 76 1 year ago

Positive experience: It needs to be bigger!!! The activity area is small considering the surrounding space that could be used to expand. The car park is not free!!! We booked kids tickets online, but still had to queue to get in and lost 15mins of time from our skytrail booking because the check in service was so slow. The crazy golf took forever because of waiting for every other person to complete their turn before moving on. Kids were unable to finish in 1hr so had to abandon it and move on to battle archery. An older guy was in the archery session and shot my friends 8yr old daughter close range intentionally in the chest. It really hurt, she cried a lot and had to miss the rest. The archery was only 30mins. It cost me £25 for ice lolly’s and £3.50 for a magnum ice cream

Romain Greze 1 year ago

Negative experience: Did outlaw triathlon. Sadly booked car park from my phone and thought I booked for the weekend. Sadly it only registered for the Saturday. Got hit with a £60 for the Sunday. Online on the phone it looked like I pressed the weekend option. I wish the layout of the website was clearer on the iPhone as I could have done without paying £60 fine. Bit annoyed.

Positive experience: The single rooms are tiny, the rooms are very warm but windows open (slightly) onto the car park so it's either privacy or a small amount of air. The shower is ok but again a tight squeeze for a 16 stone man. The entrance is secure but have to ask to enter after 9pm. The location is great, it's on a man made lake with woodlands surrounding . No food or shops but can order to the hotel

Barbara Rowlandson 1 year ago

Positive experience: Visited with hubby (disabled). On arrival found a triathlon in progress. Car parking was shambolic, half staff didn't know whst others were doing - some saying free parking others saying all pay. Never actually found a disabled slot but able to patk relatively easily. Cafe service not bad - quite busy but to be expected. Trying to stroll round country park area was a nightmare. No clear routes marked for public or entrants. However still enjoyed our visit

Darren Robinson 1 year ago

Negative experience: You have to pay for parking even if you have paid for an activity! Rip off, we didnt see any signs and now have a parking fine. The rafting was very disappointing - a few little short bits of white water then you have to carry the raft to a canal and paddle all the way back up. Didnt bother staying the whole session. Staff were lovely but as an experience - save your money!

Fantastic experience: Great place to go camping/caravanning/motorhome. Nice hard standing pitches, local for city centre, pubs/reataurants, supermarkets/take always. Lovely shop on site. Stick a little bit of everything.

Eve Marshall 1 year ago

Negative experience: Extremely poor customer service - avoid at all costs. I rang about a query & the Manager Matt Evans was unhelpful and deliberately awkward. He then hung up the phone when I asked for the contact details of who I could escalate my query too. For someone classed as a 'Manager', I've never had such a rude and unhelpful phone call. When I rang back, he told me he wasn't legally entitled to give me the name or contact details of who I could speak to for assistance with my query! I then rang back asking to speak to somebody else on site, which was ignored 5 times over the space of 7 days. Finally, after asking for the contact details of the Manager at Serco or the Council, my enquiry was taken seriously. Such a shame my query couldn't be handled appropriately on my first call to the site.

Positive experience: Nice surroundings We went to support 3 members of our family taking part in the 5 k muddy run in aid of cancer research we had 3 cars in total and had to pay £10 each for car parking on top of the hundreds of £s we helped to raise along with all the supporters We hope the council donated a good part of car parking money to the cause if not all of it as last year it was free to park Well done to all runners

Fantastic experience: We stayed in a 'deluxe' camping pod. That meant it had a (truckle style?) double bed, plus a fold out single for our son. Bedding was clean and crisp, and the curtain to separate the adult sleeping area from the rest was a nice touch. Generally clean although there were quite a few spider's webs around the lights. Nice to have our own picnic table, and there was a raised slab around the side that could have been used for a camping stove or disposable barbeque. Lots of great activities in the country park, we tried open kayaks, Lagoon Wipeout and Sky Trail All good fun and staff were helpful. Plus of course it's home to the National Watersports Centre so a chance to watch people training on the whitewater slalom course.

Negative experience: Stayed at the weekend absolutely disgusted as there was no disabled shower access for my mother to use both door was locked. When asked at reception the lady in her 60s looked at me gone out saying maybe the cleaner had clocked them you have to come back tomorrow. In my eyes this is horrendous I own a disabled key and they have different locks on the door! If your disabled would definitely avoid

Kevin L 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Just the best place to visit in the area. I love walking my dog early mornings before it gets busy. Perfect also for a lunchtime run!

jo knight 1 year ago

Positive experience: Though a frequent visitor to this site it's becoming increasingly frustrating that fellow campers, motorhomes etc do as they like there. Using your booked EHU so you've no access to it, parking inappropriately & blocking access and pitching up where they fancy. Often now have to ask reception to act. Sites OK, obviously poor weather leads to boggy conditions, no mops or brushes to clean shower floors after use and so they get dirty...luckily we are self contained. It's well situated for our visit to Nottingham so will use again but hope others are more considerate.

Fantastic experience: Came for 2 different activities on a stag weekend. The wipeout course was lots of fun. But the highlight of the visit was the white water rafting. We had Danny and Matt as our instructors and they were fantastic. Such a great experience and would recommend to others!

Negative experience: Ground was so soggy that our van sank straight away. Where it stayed overnight till a second vehicle could be brought in to help tow it out. There was no emergency hard standing to put us on, so we decided to go elsewhere.

Simon Cassidy 1 year ago

Positive experience: Campsite was fine, water a bit of a walk, toilets a bit of a walk. Hard standing pitches could do with an overhaul. Site was clean and well serviced by staff. I would stay again for the location.

Hannah Bee 1 year ago

Positive experience: Parking not very clear as have north and south parks, but no indication if for National Water Sports centre only or park visitors. Water Centre staff not sure of country park facilities on asking.

Andy Wells 1 year ago

Negative experience: Booked and stayed at the campsite and was looking forward to lots of adventures with our 7 year old son but everything was closed. No mention of this on the campsite booking page. You need to read the information on the Nottingham Council website to discover it only runs April to September at weekends and school holidays. The campsite had nothing apart from a small shop where the woman failed to tell us everything was closed after getting directions and the opening hours advertised on the shop are fictional. Never open in the afternoon. Being completely waterlogged due to the weather, that aside I would never stay there again nor could I recommend it. You can't even get on the foot path without walking across a muddy verge. No thought go into the site.

Chris 1 year ago

Negative experience: Sign on way in says 3 hours free parking, then says £4.70 for all day when scanning the QR code. Then if you go to the machine it's £5. Make your mind up!!!

Fantastic experience: Booked for a stag do, and the whole experience was perfect! Right from the beginning Cindy made organising really easy even for a group of 24. White water rafting, sky trail, and mini golf were all amazing and all the rafting instructors were great, we had Fin who made sure everyone was involved! We had a conference room booked for the evening, and the lady behind reception (sorry didn’t catch your name!) couldn't do enough for us, we had everything we needed! Great value for money and wonderful time all round

Positive experience: Fantastic water sports venue. However. Activities are expensive but nothing else can offer the same experience so they can set whatever prices they like. Car parking is £5 all day. Fine if your staying for the day expensive if just letting the kids run in the park for an hour. The little cafe near the park was nice and offers decent food at reasonable prices with friendly staff. The toilets are disgusting and a real let down. Wet slippy floors, Broken handle in disabled toilets and a smell so bad a kid ran out holding there nose shouting "I'm peein in the bush" and it did sound like a better idea.

Matthew Douglas 2 years ago

Positive experience: Great play park for the kids, could do with a boundary fence around it. The car parking is a dusty nightmare, and costs £5 - no app it’s done on the web and you need a card to hand.

Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful weekend with the girls! We had initially planned to go tubing, but I'm so glad we ended up trying rafting instead. It was quite an experience, especially since it was the first time for all of us. Finn made us feel at ease and helped make our overall experience unforgettable. I'd like to extend my thanks to Danny for assisting me with the booking and ensuring everything went smoothly on the day.

Positive experience: We used the water activity side of this venue. When we went into the wrong area via the hotel reception, we asked for directions and if we were in the right place and the guy on reception was edging on the side of rude to be honest. He advised us were to go but seemed quite irritated by us being there! The sports centre itself offers a good range of activities. The staff seem a mix of ones that are really pleasant but then others are quite surly with an attitude that seems to exude from them!! Luckily, we had a those that were really chilled and pleasant when we took part. Others we witnessed were round and about the centre. The water assault course was really good fun and worth a go!! We didn't have any food here so can't comment on that.

Nick Johns 2 years ago

Negative experience: I wouldn’t recommend this campsite at all and we wouldn’t stay here again. Very overpriced for camping especially when we were kept awake both the nights we stayed due to loud music playing until stupid o’clock in the morning. It’s ridiculous that you allow stag dos to play their music and sing extremely loudly during the night when you have a campsite full of people who actually want to sleep. Also, the shower and toilet facilities were disgusting and dirty the whole time we stayed with used sanitary towels stuck to the radiators and overflowing sanitary bins. Absolutely not worth the £70 bill. We would avoid this place, the worst place we have ever stayed.

Donna Babiczuk 2 years ago

Positive experience: Stayed on the camping site. Liked: The overall site was lovely, very spacious and nice lush grass, different areas, shop and park. It was very busy with families enjoying time together, playing music, games and eating. Everyone followed the rules of the evening and quieten down by 9.30/10pm. The park was close to the water sports centre, and we had plenty to do to keep the kids entertained. You can also wash and dry clothes for £2+, handy if you forget to pack extra bits for mucky accident prone little legs. Play park on site. And super quick access to a supermarket and takeaway places. Highly recommend dough n buns in West Bridgeford for pizza - easy to order online and 3 mins drive to collect. Disliked: The pitches were not easily identified, the numbers were not on the posts. These could do with relabelling. The toilets - overall not terrible but not amazing either. I was there 3 nights and only saw the cleaners once (during super busy times I feel the cleaners need to be about daily) after they had been the toilets/showers were much better. However, I do think it’s wrong that people assume the cleaners are there to clean up after them, if you drop a piece on tissue on the floor at home you pick it up and bin it, if you your sanitary items accidentally miss the bin, you don’t leave them, you pick them up, pop them in the bin. Some of the toilet/shower issues could have been better if people just spent a little longer making sure they did not leave a mess behind them - granted, a lot of kids used the toilet’s unsupervised. Many have said about an extra toilet block - one down the far end would be handy, especially for those late night toilet breaks.

Fantastic experience: A great day out. Visited with a friend and her children. The rates are good and the activities were amazing. I can see it being a bit too busy on a hot summers day as everything is very close to each other. Would 100% return for more activities though. A run around the regatta is brilliant too!

Fantastic experience: Great outdoor place , lucky to watch 3 boats on the rapids, places to cycle , park near the entrance was well maintained, hot drinks were OK latte was a little watery to say it should be milk, 3 drinks £10( hot chocolate had cream and about 6 marshmallows) Parking on the app was easy £5 all day . Didn't use the electric cars nor the climbing activities. I would go back.

Disgraceful service will never be back

Positive experience: The room was very comfortable, and I had a very pleasant stay: but there were a few issues. Walls were marked and dirty - there was a clear handprint on the wall at the foot of the bed. The shower doors did not close fully at the bottom, leaving a 3-4 inch gap, allowing water to run onto the floor. Also, I an a fat woman, and had difficulty squeezing through those doors to get into and out of that same shower. Niggly things apart from that. The room wasn't bad, but it really needed a refresh

Negative experience: Went canoeing here. Booked online for 3 single kayaks. Paid for 3 singles. Arrived at the time and only 2 single Kayaks left (despite booking system saying available when booked). The lady apologised and put 2 of us in a double and said she will call us over when singles available in 10 mins and give us extra 10 mins. Never got called over. Session ended and she apologised and said to go to reception and explain for the refund. Went to reception, the person on couldn’t deal with it. Said his supervisor is wondering around, please wait 5 mins. 10 mins later she hadn’t come back, so he took phone number and said will call as soo as she comes back. No phone call happened. So not happy with the customer service experience, the wasted time and also no sign of the refund. So what should have been a good experience let down by that.

Negative experience: Don't use this hotel unless you absolutely have to. I have used this hotel a couple of times in the past simply because I was volunteering at an event for a national charity and pragmatism dictated staying on site. The rooms are incredibly cramped and tired but, at least, in the past, the prices have reflected this. The current prices are a joke for what's on offer (it's 'run' by Serco & it shows). I booked and paid for a single room again this year and was shocked at the prices they were asking for something so poor. However, the big problems came when the charity asked me to move to another event and I tried to cancel my room. Serco staff this place with idiots who don't know their own systems (and apparently have never even looked at their own web site). Got there in the end but....jeez....are they useless.

Fantastic experience: Went for a walk round the boating lake and alongside the white water rapids this afternoon. £3 for all day parking is an absolute bargain. A lovely place to come to for a walk round the water. There's a lovely little café with super friendly staff, great looking food and wonderful coffee. Will definitely be back again.

Positive experience: Pretty in places, but signposting is non existent so attempting to follow any of the paths marked on maps can leave you stranded in thick woodland.

Negative experience: Location is good really peaceful and nice relaxing scenery great for long walks in the sun and watching out the window when in the gym facilities and hotel rooms are also decent clean and tidy only minor issue with room was it had a broken loo as it kept clogging up and overall when i was placed here by the council due to being homeless through fleeing dv throughout my time in this hotel i was treated unfairly compared to other people by the staff here and was made to feel like an inconvenience and nuisance just as an unpredicted safeguarding incident happened to me by a staff member from the gym that made me uncomfortable and distressed me and as reporting the matter to reception the staff were uninterested and not patient enough to allow the chance for me to explain the whole situation further and did not take it seriously were very dismissive even though they were not busy at the time they did not believe me they could not wait until i left the counter despite being aware of my disabilities and mental health distress i was in they did not care all i was told was that they would ask the manager to look into it but nothing was actually done about the incident as i did not hear any info from the manager upon departure and in the end staff told me that they will no longer be accepting bookings under my name so was also blacklisted from being allowed to use this hotel anymore despite having done nothing wrong at all how i was innocent throughout the whole time and this is the treatment i get from a public facility. My advice is is if you have autism or any disabilities or mental health conditions in general and if you are also an lgbtqia individual on top i would not recommend this hotel to be safe to any of these backgrounds the staff are not inclusive and are hostile i will certainly not be returning cheers.

Fantastic experience: We didn't stay in the hotel, we were in a Campervan and the facilities where excellent. We opted for an electrical pitch with space for an extra vehicle, and the plot was huge. The toilet and shower facilites were well maintained and very clean.

Fantastic experience: Today, we watched the British Rowing Masters Championship at Nottingham Water Sports Centre, and it was great.

Negative experience: We did the mini land-rovers. The description sounds like you get a full 30 mins for £9.50 which you don't. You get 2 laps and if your child is able to get around in 10 minutes, then that's the end of your session. Not very impressed tbh

Negative experience: Very noisy, no staff to be seen at all on the site. No hot water for washing up. Site spacious but I definitely won’t be returning.

Fantastic experience: Outlaw triathlon event. Facilities for a national water sport centre are excellent, lots of parking and plentiful food drink and things to do

Fantastic experience: It was very busy with an event. Staff helpful, polite. The main building was clean and tidy. Facilities good.
