Active Ashton

Fantastic experience: My youngsters son goes to the swimming club here and has only been going for around 6 months. The volunteer coaches have made him feel very welcome, and it's like being part of a community. There are over 100 swimmers in the club over four generations. It's such a shame that the council is closing the pool in a couple of weeks due to the amount of money it will cost to repair the building and rising bills.

Fantastic experience: I was a start stopper of all gyms but I came back to active one week ago to get me back in shape and I felt so welcomed by staff and other users. I was so nervous to go to aqua fit and all members and the coach were brilliant even a member of staff put on a coffee and biscuit morning for free not always but it was nice to sit and chat.

Positive experience: My son who has ASC had his first ever swimming session here. Loved that. Just little cleaning issues in changing rooms. But overall experience was good.

Positive experience: Gym has been renovated . Shower facilities changing rooms and remainder definitely needs updating fixing broken tiles locks on changing room doors etc staff are lovely amd work hard instructors are good and great range of classes.

Positive experience: Take our daughters for swimming practice. Friendly instructors, changing rooms are clean with plenty of lockers. Toilets could do with a quick clean a little more often and abit more seating in the waiting area would be good. Otherwise a decent leisure centre.

Fantastic experience: I've been coming here for 9 years now and would never swap gyms. The instructors are great, everyone is really friendly and really make you feel welcome. I especially love that after a class you can relax and refresh in the steam room Zumba is such a party atmosphere and Steves spin and functional classes are a great way to tone up. Pauls fitball is a good core class. I now feel like everyone here are my 2nd family

Fantastic experience: With covid 19 restrictions you have to book on the app for the Gym because they close the Gym for cleaning at different times in between the sections example ie 9.00 UNTIL 10.30close for cleaning 12.00 unit 1.30 .with the swimming you have to book and it's lane swimming in the pool. The Sauna and steam room is not open yeat because of the covid 19 restrictions .it will be on the app the active Tamesdie app.

Positive experience: OK but only went to take my son to his swimming lesson

Negative experience: I suffer from agoraphobia & anxiety & mental health, went swimming which is very hard to do and much harder after lockdown, first time I went I tried different ways to swim but could only do back or side because of my breathing, the fella said its ok has long has it keeps the lane moving. Then went Saturday and was told I can't do back swimming, so I told them my issues and he said u will have to get out then, then he went to ask someone and came back, if we do it for u, we will have to let everyone do it, so I had to swim on my side so I could breath, I couldn't do a full length too because of my issues so I went half way and made sure I didn't stop others. I thought ashton swimming baths or meant to be mental health friendly.. but they or not and it's a disgrace ......

Fantastic experience: i love going to the gym but with the lockdown restrictions and unable to have a shower afterwards before going to work i find the hardest thing as i do a session then go straight to work

Fantastic experience: I've just renewed my membership for the 12th year! Classes are fantastic, staff are friendly and the other members are now life long friends . If I didn't have to work, i'd go every day!

Negative experience: After a first time visit last week I paid for a daily gym and swim pass. The locker rooms were of good size but there were a lot of what looked like white spiders crawling up the inside of the cubicle door. I got ready and went towards the gym area but was a bit hesitant as I suffer from anxiety and I also have aspergers. I had a quick look through the window into the gym area and a team member came out of the door and questioned if I was ok as I looked a bit suspicious. I told him I have anxiety and just needed a minute to get myself pumped up enough to go into an uncomfortable environment. With this, the team member laughed and walked back inside. This made me feel a whole lot more uncomfortable so I went back into the changing room and had to calm down in a cubicle for a further 20 minutes. I did not use the gym facilities due to this. I just wanted to make staff aware that people who use the facilities may not always be comfortable in that environment so in future please take this into consideration.

Fantastic experience: I go 3 times a week (had never been to the gym before) and it is great barely ever a machine out of order some amazing classes and a sauna and steam room! Although sometimes a bit limited with opening times (9am-4pm on Saturday and 9am-2pm on Sunday)

Negative experience: No point in ringng as they don't answer phones

Positive experience: I have a corporate pass for 25quid a month. Its all inclusive. So theres a swimming pool. Yes they offer coaching classes. Yes the pool is big enuf. There's a diff pool for babies as well. There s a sauna n steam room. Both pretty good. Changing rooms r pretty good. The gym: has most equiment u need. U have trainers. U have enough weights and space to work out. Enough Cardio equipment. U r given a card that u swipe at doors n walk in with. Has a tiny water fountain for drinkin water and ACs around for good ventilation. Gets a bit crowded sometimes but then u can find ur space somewhr.

Negative experience: bad attitude from staff that is suppose to be teaching children. Just stood there with a could not be bothered face constantly rolling her eyes at the children and mouthing for God sake. when manager spoke to her she just shrugged her shoulders and said she does not care. disgusting attitude when working with children recommended she work elsewhere

Fantastic experience: Sorry to advise all of this, but Ashton Active will be closing it's door on 03.09.2023 for good due to lack of investment in way of maintenance of the building and pool area by Tameside Council. The centre has been serving the local community and beyond for many years. Many people are disappointed in the actions that are being taken by the council. Tameside could invest money into the building, but have chosen to use this to revamp an outdoor market and the town hall. £22 million is being spent on the revamp. Staff are being deployed to other active hubs or losing thier jobs,

Positive experience: Front of house is fantastic and very helpful we went swimming and pool is dated but apart from that it was gd and clean

Negative experience: Ok so my experience at this centre was absolutely disgusting, i was discriminated against also this building has a poor amount of space for people to view the swimming and i wanted a tour of the building but the workers failed to do

Positive experience: It's ok but there is no cafe. Drinks machine really expensive and limited viewing area for the pool.

Positive experience: The staff here have always been really friendly and helpful. The swimming timetable is clearly displayed on the active tameside website for anybody who needs times. The changing rooms are small but its rarely that busy that you struggle. The baby pool is always nice and warm and is very quiet during school time. The large pool however is freezing at all times so we do avoid this pool if we have the older children. Lots of the large pool gets cut off for lessons so lane swimming can be hard when others are trying to enjoy the same space. There is a carpark outside where you have to pay but its always very busy with shoppers from the center.

Fantastic experience: I must say about I must say about active Tameside I thought it was very good my first time going on Wednesday I enjoyed it more when I was starting to workout on the equipment what I was using I found it very helpful as I many years ago used to work out a lot I used to do 100 press ups and 100 sit-ups that's when I was smoking I am still a smoker but I'm over to kick the habit but I'm going to get more active eat more sensibly it's more common sense I would recommend active Tameside to anybody get off your bones and do something about it I will say no more that is my opinion

Negative experience: So dirty it's disgusting, the changing rooms floor leaves your feet black. Smell of urine in toilet would knock you out, and showers so hot you cannot use them. The management should be ashamed of themselves

Positive experience: First of all excellent Covid controls in place, implemented by both staff and members. 1, Meet and greet, informative, friendly, knowledgeable and efficent. Well done 2, Facilities, seem to suffer from poor maintenance support, and lack evidence of test/legislative compliance. Not so good. 3, Changing area, maintenance of cleanliness suggests ownership. Well done 4, Excercise machines, maybe due to age? are often found to be in some state of failure/wear and tear or with a notice of intended repair that shows no time line information or report. 5, Summary, Generally a good facility for Tameside and its people.

Negative experience: I will never visit Ashton Baths again, not while there's perverts Exposing themself to me and my 12 year old Son, the Manger didn't even bother to ring me back on the matter!

Positive experience: The large pool shallow side stinks off pee (very off putting which is why I haven't been back in the pool, being as I'm not a strong swimmer I would have to stay in the shallow side) not sure of baby pool. I use the disabled changing room (I'm a wheelchair user) the toilets always (without fail stink off faeces (I think this is becoz the drains need cleaning, I've put in a request on several occasions for this to be done but it's never happened to my knowledge and I go 2-3 times a week on average) The locker next to the disabled toilets is still using the old £1 coin and it's now April 18 The gym is fantastic I use the gym 2-3 times a week though if you want to weigh yourself I wouldn't count on the gym scales (if you weight yourself then get off and get straight back on to weight yourself if you forgot the number you will be given a different number i only noticed this becoz I woz at a different stone not just lbs The staff couldn't be easier to get along with they are very friendly and helpful, they go out of their way to help

Fantastic experience: Always go every week for a swimming session

Fantastic experience: I've been a long time customer of Ashton Leisure Centre (admittedly not frequently enough in recent years) and have always found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. Having recently started using the facilities again, I can say that the centre is better equipped than it's ever been. There are a lot of things to do despite the centre's relatively small size. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Positive experience: Good clean pool and the showers were lovely and hot. My son had a good time practising his swimming. Will go again.
