Positive experience: This is an amazing gym with most of the equipment for people who want to train alone. They also offer a variety of classes and training sessions to the ones who want to learn. The reason why I have given only 4 stars is because I think the treadmills are not very well maintained in the gym. As an avid runner it's easier for me to guess that and what kind of maintenance is being done.

Negative experience: Showes not very hot
Hi Nicholas, thank you for taking the time to leave us this review. We have recently made slight changes to this area, looking at improving energy efficiency. This is both to control our energy usage, but also with a look to reduce our carbon footprint. Our showers are now set at a temperature of 36C and have a flow rate of 5 litres per minute. These parameters are regularly monitored and we also have regular checks carried out on boilers and associated equipment to ensure the units are operating as they should be across all of our gyms. On occasion, we can get faults on our water system which is normal. When this happens, there is a process in place to ensure we arrange for our contractors to attend, investigate, and resolve the faults and return the systems back to full working order within a timely manner. If you believe there may be an issue, please speak to a member of the gym team who will be able to assist further. All member feedback is reviewed, and brought to the attention of our Facilities team, who regularly review any changes we make to our gym facilities and all feedback is taken into account when making any future changes. Negative experience: Super friendly staffs, good equipments. However, I feel as if the place doesn’t have good ventilation. The gym gets very humid, sticky and stuffy. You can even see this on steamed-up windows and find it tough to breathe at times.

This is both to control our energy usage, but also with a look to reduce our carbon footprint. By law, we have a requirement to provide a certain amount of fresh air based on occupancy levels, and our ventilation system increases and decreases at different times throughout the day and night, making sure we meet these requirements and provide good air movement around the gyms. These levels are based on size of the gym, and occupancy levels, and are regularly monitored. All member feedback is reviewed, and brought to the attention of our Facilities team, who regularly review any changes we make to our gym facilities and all feedback is taken into account when making any future changes. Fantastic experience: One of the better pure gyms around
Negative experience: Avoid this gym, the parking is ridiculous. With building work outside, their car park is out of use. Another carpark which has dreams/ PureGym on the sign - Some bays are unmonitored, others you will get a £100 fine for which PureGym takes no responsibility for as they’re owned by Dreams. Wouldn’t have bothered coming had I known about the situation

Positive experience: 24-7 and is very convenient, you have everything you need for any goal and the gym is temp controlled but. the equipment is below average and weights are always dispersed would recommend to anyone but might be best to checkout other gyms first, Side note there used to be a predatory cancelation process but no fee anymore and a big button that says cancel.

Fantastic experience: I recommend having Sebastian as a personal trainer. He is extremely reliable & punctual, always set up and ready to start training ahead of time with an exercise routine planned. He is very friendly, sociable and understands individual needs so he adjusts exercises depending on this.

Positive experience: Pleasant gym, friendly staff and always clean. Plenty of machines to suit everyone. Music could be better,it’s either no music or very poor music and it’s not motivating. You have to have your earplugs always. In overall it’s a nice gym in a convenient location.

Fantastic experience: I have given 5* for the Spinning Class with Vu which always hits the spot regardless of ability, but the spinning bikes themselves need a serious service. This has been a problem now for a number of years so it’s not recent!

Negative experience: All great until the app doesn’t work nor your pin, then suddenly the app starts working when you’ve left. Tech nightmare. Shocking when you’re only way to get in is tech based.

All members receive an 8 digit pin when they join which is used at the pin pads on the walls by the doors at all of our gyms. Negative experience: Exactly what you can expect from a commercial gym. Most people don't re-rack, weights everywhere, there's signs to re-rack and warning that it may have consequences but staff doesn't really talk with people to reinforce that so many times you have to unload 200kg to use a barbel and stuff like that. Only reason I'm giving 2 stars it's because it's big gym and it's open 24 hours. It's exactly what you pay for. Edit after response: I understand that during peak times it's hard, the thing is that this never happens. And I doubt that anyone ever got suspended because of this. It's very easy to spot who are the people that do this and speak with them, or just get some staff to spend 1 hour walking in the gym and talking to people, that would also get attention from everyone. It is in the gym rules that members should return their own weights or risk suspension, but at peak times especially it can be hard to police this. Fantastic experience: Best Pure gym I’ve been too. Spacious, clean, and for the most part, great equipment. Great space for calisthenics, tidy, clean and well attended too. Solid cardio selection and huge strength training section. Within this price range, very hard to beat. NOTE: Replacing/repairing broken equipment can get caught up in the machine that is big chains, with staff frustrated waiting on replacements.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of Pure Gym Stoke North for quite some time now, and I cannot help but sing the praises of our fantastic personal trainer, Ant. In fact, I firmly believe that he deserves to be promoted as the gym manager, as he embodies everything that makes this fitness centre a welcoming and inclusive environment. One of the first things that struck me about Ant is how he always takes the time to stop and talk to everyone. Whether you're a regular gym-goer or a newbie just starting your fitness journey, he never fails to make you feel valued and supported. His genuine interest in each individual's progress and well-being truly sets him apart. Moreover, Ant has an incredible talent for creating an all-inclusive atmosphere within the gym. Regardless of your age, fitness level, or background, you can rest assured that you will be welcomed with open arms. I've witnessed him engage with individuals from all walks of life, fostering a sense of community that is often hard to find in other fitness establishments. One particular incident stands out in my mind that exemplifies Ant's dedication to creating a harmonious gym environment. There was an unfortunate confrontation between a fellow member and myself over the use of a machine. Ant, sensing the tension, immediately intervened and diffused the situation with calmness and professionalism. His ability to mediate conflicts and maintain a positive atmosphere is truly commendable. As someone who focuses on Olympic weightlifting, I appreciate Ant's understanding and flexibility. He never raises an issue when I need to use the weights in less conventional areas of the gym, as long as I return them to their proper place. This level of trust and understanding demonstrates his commitment to accommodating the diverse needs and preferences of the gym's members. Overall, I firmly believe that Ant should be promoted to the position of gym manager without delay. His exceptional interpersonal skills, inclusivity, and willingness to go the extra mile make him the ideal candidate for this role. I cannot express how upset I am that he has not been given this opportunity yet. Pure Gym Stoke North would undoubtedly thrive under his leadership. If you're looking for a personal trainer who not only helps you achieve your fitness goals but also creates a supportive and inclusive gym environment, Ant is the person you need. His passion for fitness, dedication to his clients, and outstanding interpersonal skills make him an invaluable asset to Pure Gym Stoke North.

Positive experience: I am notna fan of mainstream gyms personally and feel that pure is ok and has the basics of what is needed. Feel it is an amazing choice for beginners. I went for a visit and unfortunately picked a busy time where I struggled to get on the equipment I needed to. There were some people with lack of gym etiquette who don't put the weights back once finished or left the rack full which is rather frustrating. I possibly need to revisit and see what it is like at a quieter time to fully appreciate the facilities.

Positive experience: Its very crowded but clean and has enough equipment. Lockers dont come with padlocks and you have to bring yours.. One can buy padlock from their vending machine which fits. I tried several padlocks which didnt fit in locks so ended up buying one from them

Fantastic experience: Equipped to the standard level gym . Great location. Planty of space between the training stations. Well managed and maintained. April 2023 update More and more equipment out of use. Covered in dust equipment. Member should provide minimum level of comprehensive skills qualifications to match the numbers on the dumbbells and racks. Not many members will wiped down equipment after use..
Negative experience: Very open and intimidating for a lone older female, and I am a confident person as well.. there isn’t any private cubicles in the ladies to get changed, so if you prefer privacy you might want to think again, especially given that they have male cleaners/maintenance coming in, yes they shout but if you are in the shower and someone is just in the changing area who shouts yeah it’s fine, it can be quite uncomfortable

Fantastic experience: Great gym in most ways, it's a shame a lot of members think it's OK to sit on equipment not using it, on their phones I feel the staff should try to discourage this behaviour as I know it annoys most members wanting to do an unfragmented workout. So frustrating I often think a home gym is better .

Fantastic experience: I absolutely love this gym! The facilities are top-notch and the staff is always friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that during peak hours, the gym can get a bit smelly due to the cooling system. However, this is a minor issue and does not detract from the overall excellence of the gym. I highly recommend checking it out!

Positive experience: Very good gym. New equipment. I wish pure gym east was as good. Just to far for me to drive
Negative experience: If I could give zero stars I would. I was manipulated and emotionally abused by a PT at Stoke North this year. Had no support from PureGym as a company and the PT is still working there. I was in a vulnerable position, struggling mentally with depression and was massively taken advantage of. In response to PureGym's reply below, I had already complained and an internal investigation has been carried out. The response was "the appropriate action has been taken". The PT has since been photographed in adverts for the gym which to me shows that nothing I have said has been taken seriously by the gym manager. Disgusting company and no care for their members.

Fantastic experience: Lovely gym. Showers are poor not due too the staff it's just the dirty people who use them shaving and not washing it down after or shaving over the mirror and leaving a pile of hair disgusting. Overall gym really good. Machines easy to use and always a staff member on hand.

Positive experience: This is a great gym with a large variety of equipment. However, the users leave papertowels everywhere and don't put the plates back after use, also the dumbell rack is a mess. Despite this, the personal trainers and other staff stand twiddling their thumbs. This is an easy fix but really takes away the relaxation (if that's the word) from this otherwise great gym.

I'm very sorry to hear about these issues as we take our standards seriously. It is in the gym rules that members should return their own weights or risk suspension, but at peak times especially it can be hard to police this. Staff on site do everything they can while we also have CCTV monitoring the free weights and are looking for new ways to combat this. We appreciate your feedback! Thanks, PureGym

Positive experience: Lovely gym I do enjoy it but I do wish there was more thought put into the layout of equipment and the mirror ran all the way down where the free weights are, when it's even a bit busy it is very hard to get a free bench there for have a decent workout, for example there is only one machine for each leg machine so you end up waiting around. It just feels like every free machine is like a race to get to first.

Positive experience: Great ,my son went with me just to advise me on exercise etc,but i realised he is stronger than me now,can pick up weights twice the weight of his mum,so that was the lesson i learnt that day really.Will be there soon

Negative experience: Although the gym is very good and most Pure gyms are very good, I train at several different locations. The admin side leaves a lot to be desired it's shockingly poor, if not for the convenient locations I would train elsewhere.

Negative experience: November 2011 when I joined Puregym Stoke North and this is currently the worst I've ever seen the gym. This criticism is by any means a reflection on the Management, but at the Puregym group as a whole. The numbers of important broken equipment is growing weekly, and nothing is being repaired. Apparently due to a shortage of spare parts? With JD Fitness opening a new 24 hour gym in Newcastle under Lyme. is this the end for Puregym North? Surely it's better to retain existing members, rather than attemp to regain members once they leave? Even peak times are getting noticably quite! I love this gym, but most of the equipment is getting old and now poorly maintained. Come on Puregym, sort it out!!!! Sincerely Simon

Staff do undertake regular maintenance checks and work hard with our equipment providers to ensure that our equipment is fixed as soon as possible, if any should be broken. We are equally as disappointed when this happens and sometimes need to wait on engineers but will have all equipment in full working order as soon as is safely possible. Negative experience: Other than equipment going missing, machines not working for months, shower rooms flooding and lockers amazingly locking your valuables inside without locks, yeah other than that it’s not too bad, Lol. If it weren’t for the cleaning lady’s breaking in locker skills with her old bent bread knife I think I’d still be waiting for the locksmith Lol. But the most irritating thing has to be clips being removed from pulley machines then you have to spend your valuable time wandering around trying to find the bloody things, really all it takes is a little common sense and just to secure the clips onto the machines so they can’t be removed,how simple is that. I’ve already mentioned this to the staff about the problem but still nothing has changed. The same response you’d probably get after talking to a of plank of wood, really

Negative experience: Definitely would not return to this gym! Signed up as they have fitness classes and I really struggle with self confidence, so I thought it would be a great way to ease me into the gym environment. I do not have the confidence to just walk into a gym and start going on the machines this gives me so much anxiety. So I booked 3 classes in a row (1st time being inside this gym). I booked Bootcamp followed by Absolute Abs and then Get Started (introduction to the gym). 2 other people were there before me and as we were waiting a while for an instructor 1 person went to find someone, and the other 1 said if there’s only a few of you then they more often than not cancel the classes altogether (so I thought great the whole reason why I signed up to this gym). So the instructor wasn’t there someone else came to fill in and he made something up for the class which was absolutely fine. After it the 2 other people left and I explained to the filling-in instructor that I’m also booked onto the Abs class and Get Started class and it is my 1st time ever attending this gym. He then used this to his advantage to start up a sales pitch for PT sessions £220 or something a month at a reduced fee he stated. No bother of “oh 1st time, let me show you around the place” or anything like that. Absolute zero customer service / interpersonal skills. Just went on to show me people on his Instagram. I passed on my details reluctantly as I felt pressured and put on the spot (later blocked everything connected to him). And that was it no mention of the Ab class or Get Started Induction to the gym. He went on his phone and went about his day. I left that gym and I cried. It was a massive step to take for me personally to even go to the classes. I honestly would like a refund but I’m almost certain that wouldn’t happen. I’m gonna try Stoke East and if it’s the same there then I will escalate it further.

Positive experience: Some Machines are very rusty. On the unworking parts. See staff clean each time we in.. not the best Clean. Just a wipe over. Like dusting. The anti bac spray is always running out though. Good sign it's being used. However if it's ran out.. we can't Clean the machines. Too many people aren't cleaning the equipment tho!!
