David Lloyd Sidcup

Negative experience: Please bear with me as I try to express how disappointed I have been with my experience at David Lloyd. I’m from New Zealand and my partner is from London. We’ve been knowing we were coming to London since January and my partner has been so excited to take me to David Lloyd and spoke highly of his previous experience there when he was a member, he said it was on the pricier side but we are both active and were prepared to spend our money there to get a great experience. Naturally we tried to get in contact a month prior and sent through an inquiry via their website as they request, he did, we heard nothing. So I did, we heard nothing. Fast forward a month, we’re in London and we think bugger it, maybe the system is down and we’ve been missed, not a worry, we will call. We called once in the morning three days in a row and was told each time that nobody was in that could help us and to try again at a later date, almost as if David Lloyd would be doing US the favour to help us commence our membership. I need to be clear, the tone of the woman that helped us at the front desk was completely unbothered, bordering rude. So we go back online to send another inquiry, we sent it and shock, didn’t hear back. In the process of that, we see a two week deal for 35 quid and think sweet, this will do for now. My partner signed up, paid and the website said something along the lines of ‘if you have a partner, bring them along’ so we’re assuming since they’re asking us to do that and not just join online that a partner’s membership might be at a reduced fee. This was absolutely not the case. I came in, spoke in person and she charged me the same amount as on the website. The whole time she seemed baffled why I didn’t just do it online and her and I were having to have a conversation like she doesn’t work the front desk in a customer facing role. So now you’d think I’m all signed up and the issues are over and I wish I could tell you that’s the case but no for the next two weeks of this two week trial, I had to have a fifteen minute conversation with whoever was at the front desk because since I paid in person, there was an error glitch and my membership didn’t register in the system. I was even emailed from a higher up, asking me to provide proof of payment before they spoke to their own staff to clarify that yes, I had in fact paid. It was bizarre to me how quick that email reached me yet not ONE regarding every single inquiry we had made previously. One morning on the fourth day of my trial as I had my fifteen minute conversation with the woman at the front desk, she warned me that she would not allow me to enter in the future if my membership wasn’t sorted out, suggesting that I have any power or control over their system. Actually on that same morning as I stood there waiting as she huffed and puffed over how annoying my presence at the front desk was, an elderly man came in and asked her if he could hear her membership options, to which she responded and I wish I was joking that she ‘doesn’t know, can’t help him and to go back home and check online’. That’s the interaction that actually made me write this email, it was the rudest and honestly saddest thing I have seen in years and I am appalled. We could have overlooked every single annoying inconvenience that David Lloyd had to offer up, if we were met with an ounce of warmth, perhaps even a smile. It is obvious David Lloyd is trying to cut costs by outsourcing customer service to a “central branch” but nothing is being outsourced if it is nonexistent. There is something wrong with your business model if the people at the desk cannot name your membership options but I can because of how much time I had to spend faffing about on your website. I’ve never been so disappointed and hope this is helpful in some capacity if not just a quick reminder what your job is as a supposed “high end leisure centre”. Thanks.

Fantastic experience: You are guaranteed a warm welcome at DL Sidcup. I have been to 4 most local DL and Sidcup is not actually my home club but I definitely spend as much time here if not more, as I do at my home club which is half the distance to me. Alfie is the most fantastic and versatile instructor I have ever come across and with the most welcoming and glowing personality too. I travel from my home club to get in as many Alfie classes as I possibly can and continue my membership at my home club for Alfie’s classes between the 2 clubs. I have been inspired and encouraged from a 0 fitness level to 7 days a week and I owe that to the fun, energetic and encouraging classes Alfie engages in with every single one of his classes. I don’t think there’s any other instructor who offers as much variety in classes that Alfie does. A true asset to DL. Thank you to Alfie for all that he does and well done to DL Sidcup for recognising the skill and talent that Alfie has and securing him on the timetable at Sidcup!

Fantastic experience: Lauren on reception is always smiling and happy to help - nothing is too much trouble. She makes visiting the gym a great experience !

Fantastic experience: Visited this gym on Friday evening and was welcomed by Gee, she was so friendly and chatty and easy to talk too, just the sort of person you need on reception. Very smiley and approachable if I had any questions (as it was my first time at this gym) I knew I would feel comfortable to ask Gee. Will definately be coming back to this gym as I was also pleased with my overall experience of this gym. But Gee is an excellent receptionist all around and such a lovely lady, and a credit to David lloyd!! ☺️

Fantastic experience: Aimee and Tillie are always a pleasure to see at the gym. They both incredibly helpful and approachable. Anytime I have a question about equipment or need advice on my workout, they’re happy to assist and provide useful tips. Aimee is great at making sure I’m using the correct form, and Tillie is always upbeat and ready to help me find new exercises to keep things interesting. Their friendly, welcoming attitudes make the gym a much more comfortable place to work out, and they always go out of their way to ensure I have a good experience. If you’re ever unsure about something, Aimee and Tillie are the people to ask – they’re always ready to lend a hand!

Fantastic experience: Love this small but friendly club. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Id like to give a special thanks to Tillie in the David Lloyds Kids who makes my very shy son feel comfortable and enjoy his visit.

Fantastic experience: I attended my first PT session with Aybige and it was eye opening. We did some muscle functioning test and found that I had an excessive curvature in the spine. We then did some strength exercise to correct this and my strength was was so much better when we retested. Looking forward to more session with her.

Fantastic experience: Lauren is a credit to the gym and part of the reception team she always goes above and beyond for anyone, always smiling happy and makes the day a lot better seeing her in the morning always get you in a good spirt.

Fantastic experience: I would like to take the opportunity of the outstanding service Lauren gives on reception. I have been at the club on and off for years and she has always been and is still very, chatty , welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. I don’t think she and the other receptionists get the credit they deserve as they are the fore front of the club and do so much for so many but it isn’t recognised because people take them for granted. Lauren keep it up.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a member at Sidcup for over 2 years now and have had various complaints previously about the overall set up in comparison to the other clubs I have visited. Whenever I have had these issues Linzi and Lily have always found a way to make my experience of the club improve. Really appreciate their help and think they deserve credit where it’s due. Fantastic experience: Was nervous to first go to the gym (insecure about my body), but that was made a lot easier when I met Claire. Claire helped me feel comfortable and at home in the gym and I havent looked back since. Having a friendly face there goes a long way!

Fantastic experience: Today I had complementary training session. As a postnatal women, I chose Aybige for personal training - she has knowledge in this area. I was happy to get my muscles checked and she did muscle functioning test. Now I know about problems I need to address. With some relevant strength exercises she taught me and consistency, I believe we can achieve my dream body.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of David Lloyd for three years and love it mainly because of the staff - everyone really friendly, supportive and genuine. Aybige’s Canturk has been my PT for the last six months and is the perfect example of the above. Through Aybige’s expert knowledge and training she quickly identified that I had Scoliosis, a pelvic tilt and twisted hips. After taking me through a number of complex and in depth tests my strength score specific to these issues was 3 out of ten. Aybige changed some of my exercise routines to address and correct these issues as well as providing some very specific and involved warm up exercises. Six months later and repeating the same tests to score my strength it showed 10 out of 10! My pelvis is now aligned and my hips no longer twisted! My belly button was also off-centre 6 months ago and is now central! Overall Aybige has provided expert knowledge and tailored my exercise routines to suit my goals and needs and provided weekly PT sessions to push and encourage me but all within my capabilities. This has been very important to not only improve my fitness, strength and overall flexibility but during this time I have not experienced any injuries, strains or discomfort above the feeling that I ‘have been worked hard’! In the time working with Aybige I have lost 3 stone, built core muscle mass and lost significant fat. This has changed my body shape impressively and improved my overall condition and well-being! Not only has Aybige done this through strength, core and fitness training but through detailed and excellent nutritional advice as well. The ‘full package’ which is what I needed! Thank you Aybige and David Lloyd Sidcup. I now have a regime which works so well for me and one that I can maintain, enjoy and see truly life-changing results!

Fantastic experience: The team at David Lloyd Sidcup are incredible. It's more like a community than a gym. It's the longest I've stayed with one gym because of how much we enjoy going as a family. The swimming for the kids is fantastic with Lisa, Katherine, Alex and Scarlett. My husband loves the Blaze workouts with Alfie and Sarah. Ellie and the kids club team are awesome. And Barry and Harriet are fabulous at Aquafit. The ladies on reception are all so lovely, and when my son was upset about his swim coach teacher changing Rachel really put a smile on his face before his lesson and he's been happy ever since. I hope the Sidcup branch appreciate how lucky they are to have such a fabulous and loyal team!

My trainer lilly (sorry can't remember her last name) was amazing so welcoming and walked me through every step, at my own pace but pushing me at the same time. Can't wait for my next session

Fantastic experience: It has stunning facilities to cater for everyone with tennis courts and multiple pools for every weather. It also has an amazing restaurant serving delicious food and drinks Helen who works in the restaurant is always attentive and welcoming.
