Fitness First Exeter

Fantastic experience: I’m sorry this gym is closing - it’s a shame as has lots going for it. It doesn’t have the most up to date equipment but what it has does the job well and the gym has a really good vibe. Staff are friendly and obviously live what they teach. I’ve always felt safe and welcomed here. I hope there’s a way that management can open another similar gym of sorts .. even if tiny I’d join!

Negative experience: Signed up to this exeter gym a few months ago, very dirty equipment, used tissues on floor every evening, dust everywhere, heavy bags nearly falling apart. Over priced.

Positive experience: Lovely staff and great group fitness classes. Easy to use app. The gym could be cleaned better-particularly the water fountains, mirrors, floors and showers.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a member for over 5 years. Such a great gym! Really knowledgeable, enthusiastic and helpful staff, great gym community, good range of equipment, regular classes with lots of choice. The facilities are also really good compared to a lot of the other gyms in the area. There are Large changing rooms, free car park, a spin studio, large free weights area, large cardio area, studio and sauna/steam room are great. 100% recommend. Best gym in Exeter by far.

Negative experience: Edit - I made an inquiry in person. A note was written on paper and they said they'd be in touch. Then they didn't bother following up. But as soon as a negative review comes in the spring into action

Positive experience: Great staff, make you feel really welcome. I was worried the space would be intimidating but have felt nothing but comfortable. The classes are wonderful, and there are a brilliant mix of teaching styles for each persons needs. I’d love a few later weekend classes but that’s personal preference!

Positive experience: Great gym, everything you need for a workout whether to do weithgs or circuit training. Very friendly staff. Hanging rooms bit tired with old lockers style, but overall good place to train.

Negative experience: During my workout at your Fitness First in Exeter at around 1130 today, a jumped up rude blonde female member of staff wearing a red top, accosted me in the gym area and repeatedly accused me of being to loud on the 'lat pull down machine', I've used your gym for 11 months and I've been going to gyms for over 20 years (and I've never had a single complaint about my demeanour), after your rude little staff member insulted me 5 or 6 times, she waddled off. Then two other gym members (who I've never met), said that the staff member was acting up on behalf of a little boy (another gym user) who was moaning about the way I use the (lat pull down machine), so your silly little staff member having never seen or even bothered to see me on the lat machine, felt confident enough to blindly insult my gym etiquette in front of other customers, unbelievable. Even other customers voluntarily came up to me and said how inappropriate your staff members comments were towards me and the little boy who complained about me, was even moaning to other gym users before moaning to reception lol, but the gym users told him he's moaning about nothing. It's a shame your jumped up staff don't comment on things they witness, rather than things they hear from crazy gym members. Any way, my membership is cancelled, I shall not be coming back in during my 30 days notice, I'm absolutely disgusted by my treatment today by your so called staff member. I've posted the above, which was also sent to Fitness First direct, just to warn people of the rudeness of a staff member at Fitness First in Exeter. From Richard Aston. ADDITIONAL: Also with the current policy being to avoid invading people's personal space at Fitness First/in public as COVID is still around. I find it highly inappropriate that a member of staff on a deluded power trip, could stand over a paying customer sitting at a machine to insult and ridicule them with such COVID guidance being in place. Obviously insulting customers trumps COVID safety measures for some staff at Fitness First Exeter, ignorance is bliss I guess.

Positive experience: Great gym but where is the Boditrax scale? This is almost a dealbreaker for me, as I would really like to keep track of my progress.

Fantastic experience: Went for the trial there last week and found it to be a really friendly, modern well equipped gym. The instructor was really encouraging, the sauna and steam room helped recovery after the session and great parking to come and go at my leisure.

Fantastic experience: Influencing place with awesome atmosphere. My first impression was it connects people who share same passion- both customers and staff. Good variety of equipment and classes as well as friendly, dedicated and professional staff. Parking and healthy café are a huge plus

Fantastic experience: Best Gym in Exeter! Trailed several gyms in Exeter Fitness First is definitely the best gym I tried. Very competitively priced loads of class all day! More than just a gym. You can really build up a rapport with the Staff, the Staff and PTs in Fitness Frist make the gym and have helped me become more confident with my workouts and helped my push my self further and continue to every session! A massive thanks to everyone at Fitness First, especially; Liam, Mertys, Dave, Gina, Daniel & Both Jodie's.

Negative experience: I've been a member here over 7 years and have been happy until recently. Yes they take months to repair broken equipment and yes it can be really busy at times but generally the gym is ok- as long as you don't need to speak to the staff about any problems. It started when I got a £100 fine through the post for using their 'free' carpark. I spoke to members of the Exeter team who wanted nothing to do with it and one even told me it might just be less hassle if I just paid it. I tried getting hold of the manager with no joy until I contacted their customer services team on social media and got a response. After this I cancelled my membership. I also had the customer services team send me an email to confirm my cancellation and I asked the club to confirm this via email as well. 2 months on I get an email to say my membership is still active and my bank has been contacted for more money. I shouldn't be that surprised reading their reviews online but I'm certainly glad I've left.

Fantastic experience: The staff at fitness first in Exeter are extremely friendly,helpful and supportive.. The gym it's self is kept in good condition,any problems have been sorted reasonably quickly... if you need anything just ask and there will be someone on hand to help..the atmosphere is great..highly recommended.A+

Fantastic experience: The best gym in Exeter. Friendly and always clean. Busy but not too busy. The best spin classes in the country, in particular the ones by Jason and Dave. Had the chance to do Toby's class last night and it was both hard work and fun. Couldn't be happier.

Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere. A lot of equipment (that caters for almost every muscle) and a generous space for freestyle. I like the club variety and the cost of the membership is quiet generous considering the clubs are a freebie. Everyone is a qualified personal trainer which is awesome because booking a session is kind of easy when you get to know their specialitys which is just as easy because they've all been very polite and friendly to date. Also, I'm not used to having a decent sized changing room with showers. Really like that too.
