Stoke by Nayland Resort

Positive experience: Spent one night at the hotel, arrived and was told the boiler wasn’t working so unable to use the jacuzzi which was a shame but made use of the pool, sauna and steam room Then back to our room for a cold shower as the boiler still wasn’t working , not good as it was only 2 degrees outside. Room was large but very dated, certainly needs a refurb. Had a few drinks in the bar then a meal in the Lakes restaurant, great area well thought out with a fire in the middle of the bar, food and service in the restaurant was fantastic, go for the lamb, it’s the best! Overall a good stay shame about the boiler issue and no recompense offered, although told when we were checking out, it’s working now, no good to us then. If you go you must eat there as food is fantastic.

Fantastic experience: I attended an awards evening at this venue. All staff were attentive, helpful and very welcoming. A lovely venue.

Negative experience: Good location but let down by attitude of some staff esp at breakfast restaurant

Negative experience: I recently had a room booked for my friends daughters 21st birthday. I was looking forward to the trip and treated myself to a stay in a suite. I ended up with the Myra suite. The room was a nice size and was able to accommodate all my girlfriends so we could all get ready together. Unfortunately, that's where the good stuff ends. The TV wasn't good at all, it kept glitching. The "super high speed" WiFi was non existent and it was better to just use my mobile data. The fridge in the room was on but not cold at all. One of the bedside lamps above the bed was hanging off the wall. As for the bathroom! Wow, black mould on the ceiling, not just in part of the bathroom either. For the price of the room I was expecting at least the basics. Breakfast the next day was ridiculous, I was greeted by one of the kitchen staff claiming the reason there wasn't much on the hot plates, was because we all arrived together. There were no plates, and then when i did get one, it was so hot, I couldn't pick it up. I saw other customers constantly trying to find some staff to ask for cutlery or bread to toast. In all honesty I can't see how this place has a 4 star rating. I don't like to give negative reviews, however, for the price paid, I've stayed at better Premier Inn's

Positive experience: Very disappointed for the junior suite: huge empty room, old, dirty (stain on the carpet and hair inside the drawer where they keep the hairdryer)and above all, the room was freezing! absolutely not worth the price that we spent! Facilities are ok, but I aimed to take a massage and even if I've tried to book many days in advance there was nothing available. They should improve the booking system. Also, at reception the service was poor, no one explained to us about the hotel or gave us any info, as it wasn't at the restaurant instead where people were really nice. The place is overall stunning outside and the food is very nice!

Fantastic experience: It is a lovely and beautiful place with serene views and environment.

Positive experience: Golf club venue with hotel attached. The rooms were ok but looked very dated in the furnishings. Difficulty in using the shampoo and body wash as they were fitted to the wall in brackets and didn't pump anything. The reception area was also dated for furniture with the seats when sitting you sank into them making it difficult to get out again. The food was good but needed a little more care to detail eg Eaton mess was a waste of time as it didn't resemble anything like it should have done. Very disappointed as some customers that sent it back to the kitchen. Breakfast was really good buffet, but again the kitchen needs to depend the bacon as it's stuck together and you pick up four slices when you only want one! I feel further staff training is needed so you don't waste food. Chairs in both restaurants could do with cleaning and updating. There is a pool table upstairs and what a shame it's in the condition it is. No tips on cues baize table loose and rippled, not even a full set of balls and the side of the table broken and shoved under the table very poor to say you have maintenance staff wandering around!

Fantastic experience: Arrived with family after picking up daughter from Heathrow after a 14 hour flight. Receptionist Jessica and Jo housekeeping were superb in supporting us and ensuring our weekend was perfect.

Positive experience: The hotel was lovely . The food way also good the only thing that I found that needs addressing was on both courses the sign posts between certain holes were poor as they didn't stand out enough as we were left looking where to go next. Apart from this, both courses are good I enjoyed playing them both.

Fantastic experience: Visited with family for the Sunday carvery. Probably the best roast I've ever had, service was great too. Will definitely be returning and would highly recommend

Fantastic experience: Spent Mon/Tues here this week as part of a golf break. All staff were amazing and happy to cater to anything you asked. Booking process was so easy and communication afterwards up until the visit was brilliant. Golfing: Played both courses which were in immaculate condition considering it pored down the day before continued the monday afternoon in places. Greens were the best i have ever played on. Course is very hilly which can be quite deceiving on some holes but creates a great challenge for all abilities. Facilities: Lakes Resturant, Had dinner and breakfast here which was insane! Top quality food and the staff were always on point for drinks and generally asking if everything was fine. But not enough to be over bearing. We used the pool/sauna/steam room after our round on Monday which was a great addition to the package and was perfect to recover our achy legs and mind. Brilliant experience overall and would definitely come back and recommend to others.

Positive experience: I was not happy with the service. I booked a room months ago. But recently, I have been diagnosed with cancer, that has put me in a wheelchair. I called to ask if they had an accessible room and was told there were none left. That was fair at short notice. My room was on the first floor. There was a problem with the lift, and the assistant told us to get in and try it. We got stuck in the lift. We were given an alterative room on the ground floor, but I had to use the disabled toilet in the corridor. We also found a bug in the room and half the lights were not working. We were offered a free drink in compensation. The room was a lesser value than the one I booked. For the price paid I was disappointed. On a positive note the bed was comfortable and I had a nice evening with family.

Positive experience: The lodges are very spacious and have all you could need. They could at the moment do with a major clean as certain area's are getting a little unkempt, lots of spiders but under trees in a wood so some are expected. The golf course is interesting at times as more balls seem to hit trees rather than grass at the hole in front of the lodges. Good accommodation but found very little open in the area Sunday Monday night. Food in the sports bar is good, didn't try the restaurant as food not to our tastes.

Fantastic experience: We were there just for a round of golf which we enjoyed greatly. The staff are very friendly and polite. Drinks a tad expensive but the food was nice.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely stunning area, I spent 30 years living in the Stoke/ Nayland area and the Stoke By Nayland resort is in a class of its own, I've been a few times for the driving range, but recently was there for a wedding and it was spectacular start to finish

Negative experience: We recently attempted to stay at stoke by Nayland was thoroughly disappointed with my experience. What should have been a relaxing stay turned into a frustrating ordeal due to the incompetence of the staff and their outright rudeness. **Incapable Staff:** We booked at 17:40 pm The night before when we made the booking we requested pool access their between 4 to 6 session, but was offered 2 til 4 or we could go at 6pm. it was clear that the staff lacked proper training. The front desk struggled to locate my reservation on arrival, it then transpired it had been booked for the day before. The instant reply from Jessica who was also the lady that took my booking the day before when we realised the incorrect booking was you should have checked your confirmation. I saw the email appear in my inbox which was enough to say the booking had been made. Certainly was not expecting what happened having gone through dinning options and pool access options only the night before to be told it was booked for the same day we had made the booking yet was expecting us to go back in time for pool access at 2 ??? For an initial reaction to put the blame on the customer, only says to me that Jessica needs a little education and Possibly growing up, customer service agent of the year she is not. As a business owner myself my staff would be reprimanded, do I recommend stoke Nayland, well I’ll let you be the judge of that, what I certainly don’t recommend is Jessica as your next employment decision.

Positive experience: Perfect for Stay & Play golf break, could even bring the Boss if coming as couples, with a great pool and spa. Breakfast and dinner were both perfect quality and quantity too. Would come again.

Fantastic experience: Visited for spa day, treatments and overnight stay after our wedding. special thanks to Tracey in spa who spoilt us from the moment we arrived. all staff were friendly and informative. The small plates food in bar was delicious. Will definitely we returning in the near future

Fantastic experience: We only used the spa for a hen do. There were 10 of us. Everything was very well organised and the staff were very helpful. The facilities were excellent and everyone raved about their treatment (mud, massage, facial). The afternoon tea was delicious and actually very filling. I would highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: Nice resort with two good challenging golf courses. Rooms need USB points and a couple of staff members could do with a friendly refresher course. However, would recommend.

Fantastic experience: Had a round of golf on the Constable. A hilly testing course but thoughrily enjoyed it. Excellent facilities and bars.

Fantastic experience: Golf weekend at SbN resort July 2024. Food was excellent, and great value. Staff are brilliant throughout the whole centre - hotel, restaurant, bars, spa, golf. Spa facilities really good. Can't underestimate how much of a difference the staff make here - really attentive, bright, switched on and all seem genuinely happy to have you there as a guest. Exactly how it should be, keep it up. Golf courses were in excellent condition, great pro shop and sports bar is perfect for pre/post round. Air con in all rooms would be a bonus, but looked like this was being upgraded throughout the hotel. Windows opened wide too, so not a major issue. Overall an excellent job done by all the team at SbN. Thanks again.

Fantastic experience: Attended with a family member as they have membership with the hotel. The jacuzzi was lovely but perhaps a bit to much chlorine as my eyes were stinging a bit. Pool was a gentle and nice temperature & I like that the floor level remain the same throughout the pool length. Stream room and sauna were great too. We attended on a nice sunny day so got the chance to sit outside which added to what was an already peaceful & relaxing day.

Fantastic experience: Stayed 3 nights for 3 rounds of golf using both courses. Both were in excellent condition and a great test of golf with some demanding holes. Hotel was very comfortable with very friendly and helpful staff. Food excellent. Thank you for a lovely stay

Fantastic experience: Stayed here for 2 nights in conjunction with attending the james andrews golf school located on site. The hotel and room was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel has 2 18 hole golf courses which were kept in great condition. Only managed to play the constable but it was great. Had a drunken disturbance by my room on one evening but reported it to Amy on reception who dealt with it smoothly. It didn't detract from my visit but just being honest. It was a 4 hour drive so probably too far to revisit unless working in the area. The buffet breakfast was great, especially the variety and quality of food. You can check out at 11am too if you fancy a lie in. Would definitely recommend for golfers but a nice place for others too.

Positive experience: Great golf resort, wonderful staff and challenging 36 hole golf course. Real value for money, planning to celebrate my 60th birthday at the venue next year. Better than going to Europe for golf kitties or trip expecially in summer. Not sure how well the courses play in winter.

Fantastic experience: We stayed here for my sons wedding, we had the best time. The venue, staff, room, and location were superb. A fabulous place for a wedding.

Positive experience: Great placefor a golfing break, stayed for 3 days. Foodthat was included in our break was first class, service and staff in the restaurant areas were superb. Little disappointed with the room as no fridge and no bottled water in our room. Generally the courses are in good condition but unfortunately the pathways are poor in places with large holes and ruts in them . Our last day was spoilt slightly by the two lady groups in front of us who were so slow, 5 and a half hour rounds are no fun, very frustrating. Would visit again.

Fantastic experience: Having spent four nights at this beautiful resort and playing golf on the fantastic Gainsborough golf course, all I can say is I can't wait to return. The staff were absolutely brilliant and so friendly and welcoming, nothing was any trouble for any of them in the hotel and the golf club. Amazing experience was had and the course was in top class condition.

Positive experience: Great place for a golf break. 2 excellent courses and facilities. Good Spa for non golfers. Friendly helpful staff and good catering. Not my first visit.

Fantastic experience: I planned I one night stay in May 2024 (Sun into Mon) with two rounds of golf. I had never been to this resort before. I normally visit the Belfry with this small group of fella's but we could get in this year so decided to go with SBN instead. The location of the resort was quite accessible for us from Kent. Quite an easy trip! On arrival we were met by friendly staff and everything was taken care of without any fuss. We even had a room upgrade without arrangement or prompt which was a pleasant surprise given my small group are not heavy drinkers or rowdy. The rooms were lovely and quite with plenty of amenities including Sky Golf! Our evening meal was served in the downstairs restaurant. The service was second to none. We paid a little on top of our meal subsidy and enjoyed a wonderful evening steak meal cooked to perfection. I really could not have asked for better. I was so surprized at how good everything was and could not believe what a great decision it was to visit the resort. The golf courses are good quality parkland courses. They are not easy and are spread across undulating countryside. A warning to anyone less than walking fit or with mobility issues, you may want to seek advice regarding whether you need a buggy or not. You will definitely enjoy the courses though, they present a good challenge! What is nice, weather permitting, there is a lovely outside area with lovely vista's where you can enjoy a cool drink and a chat after your round. Altogether this was a lovely trip. Great to know there are still places like this that strive to ensure their patrons are going to have a good experience, it was clear to see they operate as a team and nothing was too much drama. Based upon our experience I would definitely recommend giving it a visit.

Fantastic experience: Returned this year as had a very good experience last year. 16 in total to play golf as they have 2 excellent courses. Lovely food for evening meal and selection for breakfast . Sports bar, quiet bar for drinks.

Fantastic experience: An amazing golf resort. The staff had personalities and were very professional and actually looked happy in their work !. I told one of the receptionists that we as a group were very impressed with the staff there. She said people actually like working there. Myself and my friends do one golf trip a year. This was amazing from start to finish The golf course was immaculate too. The woods grabbed my ball a few times but that’s a ‘me’ thing. Well done Stoke By Nayland. Staff with personalities !!! I thought those days were gone in customer service :), well done

Fantastic experience: Just had a three day golf break with 16 friends, and everyone had a great time, rooms were very nice, food very good and the staff were excellent everyone was very friendly and nothing was to much trouble fantastic service from all. Both golf courses were in great condition considering the weather we had since January. Both quite challenging physically as well for all abilities ( our group ranged from 3 to 36 handicaps) everyone enjoyed playing them. Our only gripe was the cost of the buggy hire very expensive compared to what we normally pay! That said we all loved it and would definitely return many thanks to all at SbN for a great break

Positive experience: Spent a great evening here at a wedding tastefully catered for and staffed by stoke by nayland , culminating in a wonderful fireworks display as per photos . Magical !

Fantastic experience: Had a spa day for 13 people for a hen do. Communication with the spa was good, Kaytee looked after us on the day and was amazing. Arrival drinks nice, facilities great (had our own area for our beds & that was super as we were out the way a little), treatments were amazing, afternoon tea was lovely & dietary requirements met. Everyone was really happy with their spa day! Overall would recommend.

Positive experience: I stayed here in March 24, Nice spacious room, which was clean and tidy. I ate in the sports bar, which had a basic menu , but the food was good and the staff made you feel welcome. The rest of the hotel seemed nice, however i didn't use any of the facilities as i was only there for a night. Would stay again when i return to the area.

Fantastic experience: Lovely spa hotel, all mod cons you would expect. Food is a little hit and miss. Service in the restaurant can be a little slow but doesn't deter me from staying. Lovely location.

Fantastic experience: My partner treated me to a 2 night and three rounds of golf at SBN for my birthday so myself and three golf pals have just got back . At first when I spoke to someone two days before arrival I didn't get a very good experience as she ended up pretending she couldn't hear me and hung up. All conversations prior to this were excellent, professional,polite and very helpful . From arrival and through the whole stay it was fantastic, staff were so polite and professional so the one phone call before our stay really seems nothing now, we all have bad days. The hotel is spotless, rooms cleaned daily with tea coffee replenished, beds made and so comfy, food was outstanding. Not a huge choice on menu but the quality made up for this ( plenty of choice for 2 nights) and loads of unlimited breakfast to choose from. The two golf courses could possibly be the best ones any of us four have ever played on in the uk. Buggies and trollies can work out a bit pricey when you hire for three days and could be a nice touch to get a bit lower rate for repeat hire. All that said, we had a fantastic break and would all go back again tomorrow if we could. There really is not one fault with this place and I for one now have the SBN bug . Forgot to mention the pool and sports bar are brilliant, lots of room for dining and drinking. Thanks SBN really hope to return soon.

Fantastic experience: We stayed here for the weekend attending a function. Checking in was easy and the receptionists welcoming ,informative and efficient.The reception area had plenty of seating and all restaurants,function rooms,spa and rooms were easily accessed from there. Our bedroom was huge with 2 double beds,plenty of storage,a drinks station, safe and iron-no fridge,but we only needed it for water overnight anyway plus a wonderful view . The bathroom was a nice size too with a good walk in shower and lovely toiletries in a pump in the shower and some loose bottles on the sink.Lovely fluffy towels. Obviously it is based at a golf course,but that means there are nice views from your windows of the course and lake. There is a pool and a spa ,but because we went out on Saturday,we didn't have time to use the facilities. If you are into golf you can book a round or two and use the onsite shop for clothes,equipment etc. The food was good and there were plenty of staff on hand .The drinks were not exhorbitant and the wine selection was good. Although not anything close by,you can get to Sudbury,Lavenham and Colchester in 15-20 minutes by car. We had a thoroughly good weekend and I would recommend it as a spa/golf break or for a function .

Negative experience: Experienced Racism from the swimming staff we were told children are not allowed to come in until 6pm. but while we were waiting outside children which were white were allowed to come in.When we did speak to the staff about it one of the staff was very rude (Emma) while the other ran away (Kelly). My children were afraid to go in the pool due to being afraid of the staff. Emma one of the colleague was completely rude and tried to charge us to use the pool when we are staying in the Lodges and it is free after 6pm. My children didn’t even want to go in the pool and we left after 20 minutes as we were shocked. When we left Emma the Colleague started laughing at us. Absolutely terrible Customer service. Would not recommend for other ethnic background. I did not feel welcome and you made my family feel very Uncomfortable. I have never Experience this in my life and my children are very upset and traumatised. It is 2024 and this is unacceptable.

Fantastic experience: We went for a Mud Experience Spa Day for a friend's special birthday. Had the most wonderful day. I couldn't fault any of it. Treatment was divine, lunch lovely and generous, staff so friendly, polite and attentive. They definitely went the extra to make my friend's day extra special. Can't wait to go back.

Positive experience: A really nice hotel, room was lovely with a huge shower. Very clean. Staff were very attentive, food was fantastic. Only let down for me was the golf courses. I'd heard a lot of great comments about them but they were ok at best. Would still recommend though

Positive experience: Just came back from a spa day earlier in the week. Couldn’t fault the treatments I had the massage therapist was amazing. Welcome drinks on arrival nice touch. Was disappointed when guests staying from the hotel bought about 8 children down, and although being told my the spa receptionists children weren’t allowed in the pool they proceeded to ignore and all jumped in the pool. This ruined the first part of the morning, the kids were loud, running and bombing into the pool. Luckily our treatment was early so by the time we finished they had left. Lunch was ok, although did find a hair in one of our dishes. Pool area and changing rooms a bit dated.

Fantastic experience: Really lovely day spa We booked the couples packages - rasul, massage and lunch The treatments were either side of lunch and they were very relaxing. One pre-orders lunch - we had chicken caesar salad - which was very nice. A huge plus point is one has dedicated loungers - we’ve been to spas where they move your towels virtually immediately- this is so much better. All the staff are friendly and professional. I’ve already recommended to some friends - and we will return too

Positive experience: Cream tea taken as a gift. Nice setting. Scones cakes and sandwiches delicious. A little more training needed with waiting staff. Had to ask for cups.... then milk...then spoons to stir tea. Table adjacent had same issues. Lady in charge (I think Tracy) ran around correcting things and was a star.

Fantastic experience: We had a private dining room ..26 of us for a birthday celebration...they room was set out perfectly...we decorated it with banners and balloons the food was all brought out to us at same time which considering how many of us was no mean feat ..the staff were amazing and the food fabulous 10 out of 10

Positive experience: Receptionist told us we were unable to use the spa it is fully booked until after 6 , even though we were told when booking we would be able to use all the facilities, even asked if we had to book and willing to pay for access if necessary , took a day off work to use the facilities!! at 6 we went down to use the spa and our friends who were also staying with us told us no one was there, and all loungers had reservations allocated but not used from 130 through to 6 throughly disappointed Food and room were nice, boring experience

Fantastic experience: Went to the Spa for a lovely treatment, therapist was wonderful, I would really recommend a visit. Also, the Sports bar was great for a glass of wine and a light lunch.

Fantastic experience: We thoroughly enjoyed our New Year Gala Ball celebrations. Food, staff, service, cleanliness were very good, The Christmas decorations were excellent. We would definitely re visit.

Fantastic experience: My family & I visited here yesterday for Boxing Day lunch. From ordering drinks at the bar in the lounge to the service at lunch to a call we made later in the day because we thought we'd left something behind, the staff were so incredibly friendly, polite and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, they were attentive without being intrusive and were super efficient. I'd go as far as to say that it's been a very long time since I've come across such excellent staff & service, they really made our day special. The food was lovely, the room used for lunch decorated beautifully, and the views across the golf course stunning. We have been many times over the years but never at Christmas - we are looking into staying next Christmas. Thank you to all for a lovely time.

Fantastic experience: Great location, forgot my swimmers and none were available so had to miss out on pool and spa facilities which looked good. Breakfast was fantastic, great local ingredients and massive choice. Helpful, cheerful staff. Only downside, I could hear a guy in the next room thru the interconnecting door

Fantastic experience: A very comfortable room (twin beds, each 6' wide) with an ensuite shower. Food and service (at an evening function) all good. Our view (203) over golf course and lake/big pond

Positive experience: The hotel and spa is as expected, but wanted to write this review to share how poor the quality of the restaurant is… first, the restaurant is under renovation and we are seated in a meeting room, second, the food we ordered was really bad… we ordered two 2-course meals.. Starter #1: katsu sushi, the rice was like overnight rice that came out of the fridge Starter #2: vegetable soup, it tasted like canned tomato soup Main dish #1: hake, the fish was over cooked and the pile of veges / beans under it tasted quite strange Main dish #2: filet mignon medium. It was more like flank steak, came extremely well done, tasted like chicken breast. Then we asked for it to be cooked again and it was medium raw, very raw on the inside to the point we could smell the flesh… very unpleasant. The meat was just poor quality. Best dish of the night was the broccoli on the side.

Positive experience: Currently staying here, the rooms are lovely along with the building itself. Facilities amazing. The biggest let down is the situation with parking. The fact there isn’t parking for hotel guests seems ridiculous. When there’s golf events on and people using the spa you’re driving around for so long looking for a space when there just isn’t any. A lot of the spaces are reserved for committee, director and even employee of the month but no priority at all to those who have spent a lot of money to stay here. People parking on the banking basically on the greens. It makes you not want to leave the hotel itself because when you get back you know you aren’t going to be able to park when you get back.

Fantastic experience: Enjoyed the venue very much, we did have a few issues but the staff were great in sorting them out. The food was lovely and presented very well. The drinks were extremely over priced especially the soft drinks. That's our only gripe which also played a big part in our experience. The wedding was lovely but would suggest that more seating was available in the function bar area as there were guests that were disabled and had nowhere to sit in between different parts of the ceremony/breakfast/photos. The lady on reception on Saturday afternoon was an absolute angel and a credit to your venue. (Electric Wheelchair) yes I would recommend staying here

Positive experience: Really great golf complex with good standard hotel attached. The courses were good although the greens were having quite a lot of work done following some problems over the summer, which made putting a bit hit and miss. Food in the restaurant and club house was a good standard. Pro shop is excellent. It felt like great value for money for a 2 day break.

Fantastic experience: Went there for a 2 day golf tournament staff very friendly and helpful and stunning location. We had heavy rain fall all nights before rounds, so it was very boggy and wet but to be expected. The only bad thing I could take away was that the greens were pretty poor and had a lot of disease and puddles. But still impressed and looking at getting membership. Overall, it was a good experience, and I can't wait to play in summer.

The golf courses are potentially very good but are horribly let down by very tatty bunkers and the worst greens I've ever seen.... ridiculously slow, pock marked by some sort of disease and nothing like a fair roll to the ball. There are some signs they are trying to address this but I doubt they will be in anything like good shape until at least spring 2024.

Positive experience: This is a golf only review for the Gainsborough course. I was really impressed on arrival, lots of parking, great golf shop, readily available golf carts (even though it was very busy), good food and friendly service. The golf course itself was set in stunning countryside and looked spectacular. Considering its a busy course the tee boxes were good and the fairways were really well kept, however.... The two things that really let it down were. 1. The bunkers, fairly simple to fix (and it had rained the previous day), were extremely hard and crusty. I felt they either needed a very thorough rake or some new sand. 2. The greens, these in a lot of cases were very bad which really surprised me considering the quality of the rest of the course. It looked like they had recently been treated and were very diseased. I appreciate they were taking steps to improve them but at the time I played they really took away from the experience. Overall its a great facility, I hope to go back next year to see if the greens have improved. If they have I think it will be a great course

Positive experience: Room was expensive for what it was with odd things wrong (sticky bathroom floor, only 1 loo role, an open water bottle that had been used. Breakfast was not laid out for us so we were directed to another buffet which was cold.

Positive experience: I visit regularly to use the pool & gym - never stayed, so I can't comment on the rooms. SbN has everything going for it - beautiful location & surrounding grounds, a great gym setup, nice staff. However. It just doesn't reach its potential - the pool is a bit colder than it should be, ditto the jacuzzi. The changing rooms (ladies) have too many used towels hanging around; the members' pool loungers are manky and unappealing; the changing lockers are an absolute joke - I've frequently tried 4 or 5 before finding one that actually works. And I've watched countless ladies trying as many themselves. And - the pool bistro offering is limited to chocolate bars and industrial muffins. In a HEALTH setting??? Finally - it's a waste of time contacting them (I've emailed these points twice already) so I'm hoping that commenting publicly may bounce them into action!! OH - and - please - how about thoroughly cleaning the gym equipment occasionally?? (Not just flicking dust off the windows)

Fantastic experience: Came here for afternoon tea and the place was glorious in the magnificent sunshine. Place was very well kept and decorated to a high standard. Staff were friendly, attentive and always available. Parking was a bit hectic as it was very busy but the overflow section was available although it can seem like a bit of a trek if you have a baby and they don't want to go in a push chair

Fantastic experience: This is a really nice hotel with a golf course (and shop), fishing lakes, a gym and spa on site. The grounds are beautiful. There's plenty of parking as it has a regular golf clientele and evening gym goers. We ate in both the sports bar and in the Lakes restaurant, both really nice food. Very generous portions in the bar and high quality food in the restaurant. The rooms have massive beds and are quite modern. My only gripes are that (1) the TV doesn't have a programme guide, and (2) my massive bed was 2 singles stuck together - meaning there's a bit in the middle where you can't sleep. The only other thing to mention is telephone reception - there isn't any. But there is good free WiFi and you make VoIP calls. If you're here, try the soft fruit. It comes from the adjoining farm and is as fresh as you get.

Positive experience: Everything was excellent except for the 2 courses that both had deseased greens, the Gainsborough is a much better lay out than the constable, not sure I would go back.

Fantastic experience: Stayed here on a Friday night to catch up with some friends. The resort is located a few minutes drive from Colchester, in the beautifully tranquil Suffolk countryside. We were greeted warmly at reception and made to feel very welcome. The two golf courses provide plenty of challenges for those who like play, and various function and wedding facilities are available. The bars and restaurants have great views over the two golf courses and there is plenty of terrace space to sit outside and relax. If wellbeing is your thing, there is a well appointed gym, pool and spa. There are also plenty of public footpaths through and around the resort, making it possible to explore the local area on foot. All in, a fabulous stay.

Positive experience: Have just gotten back from a 4 day course. Our host had arranged the service that was first class, the provided snacks were excellent, and the meals were big. The food and in the bar was expensive but large portion. We didn't try the a-la-carte. I had a 2nd floor room that was clean but tired. Tip- in this weather it would be a good idea to have a top sheet, as I found it too warm for it but too cold to sleep without.

Fantastic experience: Long weekend with the lads .Really looked after by the staff. Nice rooms. Good golf courses. My only criticism is the greens which has some patches of disease. But on the whole l would totally recommend.

Positive experience: Went here for a Spa day. The massage itself was lovely and staff are very friendly and accommodating; however if you are after a quiet relaxing spa don’t I wouldn’t recommend. You are squeezed into an area where you yes do have reserved beds, but are practically sitting on top of others. Hear all conversations going on, so not much chance to read or relax. The jacuzzi very loud and the facility itself small. Sauna and steam are lovely. At the start of our spa day, we had other members in as well very loud and jumping in pool. Facilities weren’t great either, outdated and changing rooms very small. For the treatments you walk out into corridor, where members are walking down to the gym. Doesn’t give a spa feeling. For the price we paid, I don’t think you get your moneys worth. Overall I would say this is more for members than a spa day. Disappointed.

Fantastic experience: Went here for a work event and had a lovely time. The food was great, good selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. The rooms are spacious, clean and tidy.

Fantastic experience: Great place for a golf break, two courses, with the Constable course particularly good. Relaxing spa with good treatments and attentive friendly staff. Whilst breakfast was excellent a limited evening meal menu that remained the same for three nights and having to return dishes for different reasons, was the only negative.

Positive experience: Only played Gainsborough course. I was very impressed how the course was so playable after a horrendous stormy previous day. The course has some good holes, lots of post 3's and par 5's big elevation changes, and you can sense it was designed to be a serious challenge. I wouldn't say I loved it personally, but it was in pretty good condition, was not easy, and the thing I liked least, was that it's a serious walking test. Lots of distance between many greens, and following tees. We played off the white tees, and the course was playing around 6,400. My powakaddy, registered 10,400 yards upon completion, which having a medial meniscus tear, and PF, was not that enjoyable. I cannot express an opinion on the constable course, as I didn't play it.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic 3 days at SBN. Accommodation, food, golf and staff all great. Nice pro shop for a bit of retail therapy even for the ladies. 2 lovely courses which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Positive experience: Nice golf courses. Good quality and not too long for the average golfer. Hotel rooms clean and tidy. Staff good. Menu a bit limited but enough choice if staying a couple of days. Very crowded with events and golfers, although enough space to find a quieter lounge. Good location but not easiest to get to and WiFi signal weak.

Positive experience: Played 18 holes on the very hilly Constable course which was very busy and play was quite slow, 4hrs 40 mins. Greens mostly were very good, a couple quite damaged though.Fairways dry enough to be offered preferred lies in our opinion. Staff very helpful especially in the bar..

Fantastic experience: I had a spa day here with 3 friends. The location is beautiful, the service was great and the treatments were very relaxing. The added bonus of having dedicated loungers, dining table & locker was very appreciated.

Positive experience: Booked a message for my 40th birthday. After being almost 20 minutes late the masseuse arrived with no apology for being late. The massage itself was really good. I paid for a 30 minute massage but after 20 minutes it was finished. Disappointing. Edit: Have emailed as requested and have heard nothing in response sadly.

Fantastic experience: Went for a Sunday/Monday golf break. We played each of the two courses which were both a fair test and interesting, with a good mix of water, bunkers, positional shot holes, plus longer drive holes with sloping fairways, so a good test but fair for our mixed ability group of 20. The rooms were clean and spacious with A/C, the pool and spa facilities very welcome after the first round of golf and the meal was well cooked and presented. Serving staff were very professional and efficient and the front desk team extremely friendly and helpful. All employees looked smart and clean and gave a great customer experience. We'll book again for 2024 as a result!

Fantastic experience: Played the Constable course, greens were overall in great condition as was the rest of the course, front 9 seemed faster than thise on the back 9. Loved being able to attack the pin and the greens holding, great day out, would recommend visiting.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful location and rooms to a high standard. Service is impeccable and very friendly. Good selection of beers on tap and the wife enjoyed her cocktail. We only ate at the bar but food was good. Can't really fault it

Fantastic experience: Had a lovely overnight stay and spa package with afternoon tea and breakfast. Unfortunately, it was an exceptionally hot night and room 202 had no air conditioning. Opened window but with a wedding disco that made sleep difficult. Swimming pool was drained due to an accident with a glass door shattering; this was disappointing but we were warned prior to our visit. All staff bent over backwards to make our visit an enjoyable one. Food and drink were excellent and service warm and polite. Members were very friendly and over all, I would thoroughly recommend both the Spa and Hotel.

Fantastic experience: Used the sim this evening and had a bite to eat, pulled pork and mozzarella Tasted great nice favoured pork top with loads off mozzarella could not have eaten any more. Look forward to the Sunday carvery.

Negative experience: Went for a relax and unwind spa day today, the facilities and treatments were good but the whole day was very unorganised for our party. When we arrived our booking was not on the system despite us having confirmation emails, this was not the best start to our day, we then went to get changed and struggled to use the lookers, these were not user friendly and the website listed a robe which was in the locker but not the complementary flip flops that it states on the website. Our afternoon tea was lovely, but we couldn’t manage to eat the cakes and asked for them to be put in the fridge for us to collect at the end of the day, unfortunately when we went to collect them, they were nowhere to be found, we were very disappointed about this, they did offer us a cream tea voucher each which we reluctantly accepted, overall what was supposed to be a relaxing day, turned out to be more stressful than anticipated.

Positive experience: Recently had a great weekend golf break here. Staff and food were good, a special shout out to Cosmin, our waiter for dinner service. His attention to detail and dealing with special requests was exemplary

Fantastic experience: I organised a golf break for 20 persons, one night DBB and two rounds of golf. The two courses were challenging with some fantastic holes, very undulating and buggies highly recommended. The course was generally in good condition, few of the tee boxes need attention and a number of the bunkers definitely require more sand. The terrace outside the Sports Bar gorgeous on a sunny afternoon. The Pro Shop, Starter and all the Catering Staff we interacted with were very professional and friendly to our group. The resort gets very busy both in the bar and on the course, both our rounds were over 5 hours, so be ready to accept this. The dinner was excellent as was breakfast. I would definitely recommend this resort, probably would return mid-week rather than over the weekend though on any future booking.
