Exeter Golf and Country Club

Positive experience: Played here during a trip to Devon. Good open course with wide fairways. Damp conditions combined with slightly long grass impeded ball travel. Greens were in good condition for the time of year. Interesting to find a friendly group of Foxes in and around the 12th and 15th holes watching us play. Will be back to play the course again in better weather. Facilities very good for food and the Golf Pro shop well stocked.

Positive experience: Enjoyed a gift of a Spa Day starting with tea on the terrace, a really lovely attentive full body massage followed by a 2 course Spa Day Lunch with a glass of prosecco. Lovely few hours. Food was great and atmosphere very chilled.

Fantastic experience: I had a message from ophellia today at the spa. Best one I've had in a long time. Really got out my knots thankyou so much. Would recommend as somewhere to go. Clean and well presented and lovely friendly staff. And a relaxing venue. More than 10 / 10

Fantastic experience: Really good quality golf course with some interesting holes

Negative experience: The afternoon tea is fine and a good price. We were not given a choice about drinks other than basic tea or coffee. Nice restaurant area though, with lots of parking. The service was really poor, we were ignored upon entering, the food took 40 minutes to arrive and we weren’t visited again. No drink top ups, check ins, or opportunities to ask for the bill. In the end we cleared up ourselves and paid at the bar - and we were ignored there too!

Fantastic experience: Very nice golf course, we played this on a reciprocal which was a bonus. Greens are super quick and true. Some very nice holes, the pro was really nice as were all the staff

Negative experience: First, I don’t like leaving negative reviews like this, but feel I should share this experience. A friend and I entered an open pairs golf competition months in advance, held by Exeter GCC. We both drove for approx 1hr 30 from Cornwall to compete. We arrived well ahead of our tee time, registered our attendance and got ready for our round. When we got to the first tee at our scheduled time, the players booked to play alongside us hadn’t shown up. Now it’s perfectly understandable the Exeter GCC can’t be held responsible for this. However, the way in which this was handled thereafter is what I have a grievance with: 1) My friend and I were told that we weren’t able to enter the competition, due to not having playing partners, or somebody present to vindicate our score. As a token gesture, we were offered a refund and could play a round, but this wasn’t what we set out for, we wanted to compete! Or at least try to. Players were asked to register for the competition 20 minutes beforehand. All registered players were required to provide personal contact details, so the club had this time to make some sort of contingency, or perhaps contact the missing players to see if they were attending, but clearly didn’t act upon this until our allotted tee time. By which was far too late. My playing partner and I, along with other members of the club, might I add, felt that the club and its staff didn’t make much of an effort and could/should have done more: 2) I called the club on no less than 4 occasions to speak to the General Manager - leaving messages with Summer and Charlotte on reception and providing my details to be contacted back at the managers convenience. Not to rant, or try to get something for nothing, but to provide some feedback following, quite frankly, what I can only consider an abysmal experience after making the effort to travel so far to play a competition. I wanted to do the right thing and communicate this to the staff at the club, in the hope that they might have taken on board my feedback, so that hopefully others don’t experience the same as we did in future competitions. At the end of the day, if you host a completion, then you are ultimately responsible to facilitate the players that enter. Bad form Exeter Golf and Country Club! There are no excuses for this I’m afraid.

Negative experience: Over priced rude staff not a great atmosphere. Use to be a member as well as staff but never coming here again spend your membership money else where

Fantastic experience: We were at the club to meet friends on Friday and Summer offered to show us around the facilities whilst we waited. We are currently at DL, but have been very unhappy with tennis court availability and their customer service. Summer was exceptional and coupled with fantastic tennis and gym options, we have decided to change across asap. Looking forward to more time on court and a much happier experience!!

Fantastic experience: Lovely relaxing golf and leisure resort. Not to "posh" but simple and easy to visit. Lovely clean facilities. Friendly staff and lots of parking ! Good pool inside and also a second pool outside. Usual sauna room and jacuzzi but all maintained well and clean. Bar area really lovely with small outdoor area overlooking the golf course. Havent tried the beauty spa yet ...but will treat myself soon !

Fantastic experience: Hello - new to Exeter and phoned last week enquiring about your establishment. Just wanted to pass on how helpful Jenny was with my multiple questions, near full interrogation. I look forward the trial day which she recommended and at £20 I don’t think anyone can complain! She was very patient with me and gave a lot of information in a clear and wonderful manner. Fantastic experience: We booked the Exeter Golf and Country Club for my mother in laws 76th birthday. It didn’t disappoint at all, the food was amazing, the Sunday roast beef was great, the cauliflower cheese was the best we ever had. Big shoutout to Kimberly who took our order, she was bubbly and polite, her recommendation for puddings was spot on. She is a credit to the Club and we look forward to seeing her again. Great food, great service and lovely venue, thank you for a lovely Sunday afternoon.

Positive experience: Friend had an afternoon tea which looked delicious, I had a hot chocolate and flapjack, which was also really nice. Good value for money.

Fantastic experience: I visited yesterday with a view to join. I was greeted by Summer the receptionist, she was very helpful and professional with some excellent advice. I have now joined and am looking forward to my first visit.

Fantastic experience: Fabulous new restaurant area, been going here for years! The gym is incredible, as are the yoga classes. The outdoor pool in the summer is an oasis!

Fantastic experience: Myself and a friend visited on the weekend for a spa package and I would like to say it was exceptional from start to finish. We welcomed so nicely and shown to the spa relax room, where we were offered a welcome drink and biscuit. We were then shown to the facilities, to use the pool, steam room, jucuzzi and sauna, they handed us a key card to access and a gown with slippers to use. Lunch - we went to the restaurant to enjoy a two course lunch and a glass of Prosecco, the table had been reserved for us, so there was no waiting around. Although it was really busy in the restaurant it didn’t seem it, we were served by the restaurant manger who was lovely and let us now everything that was available. The food was presented well and the tasted amazing, we had the beef for main and pudding we went for the sticky toffee pudding and brownie. Although it is a set menu there are some good choices. Later after we finished in the restaurant we made our way back to the spa ready for our treatment, we both chose to go for a facial and were offered a room together or separate. We actually chose to be together in the same room and the beauty therapist that we had were Shona and Ophelia. Shona was absolutely fantastic, I had booked a facial but had only recently had my eye brows done, but this wasn’t an issue. She went above and beyond to make sure she protected them from the products, to the point where she even cut up a face mask to avoid it sitting over the top of my brows. It’s not often that people do this and i would like to say a big thank you and I can honestly say it was the best facial I have ever had! I would highly recommend getting a facial here, you will not be disappointed.

Fantastic experience: Is an excellent club to be a member of, very friendly and accessible to all levels - the tennis is great with fantastic coaches, courts and availability. The club generally is constantly developing itself to improve the offer and some of the food is really good and well priced for members.

Negative experience: We went there for a staff Christmas Dinner. We were "shoved" into a corner despite being the only people in the restaurant to the point where staff could not walk round the table, leaving over us instead. Partners were not sat together and we were so crowded together it was awful. The food was well below par. Raw sprouts, a Wellington that was no thicker than a quarter inch. Not enough vegetables to go around. We had to ask for more veg and even gravy as the food was so dry. The cheese board was disgraceful. No butter, one grape, and three, SLIVERS of cheese. Not worth it at all. The bar also shut just as we were finishing dinner at 10pm!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

Positive experience: Visited today for afternoon tea for my 60th birthday. The food was exceptional, I know it's only sandwiches, cakes, scones & tea/coffee but sometimes it's the small things that show any issues. The only reason for the 3 stars is that as far as I could see there was no disabled access. I had to really struggle up the two stone steps to the front door (I was using my crutches). Once inside there was a stairlift but no instructions on how to use it and I didn't see any staff so I couldn't ask for help so again I had to pull myself up the stairs. I do quite often need to use my wheelchair. If I had needed my chair today I probably would've just gone home even though the booking was to celebrate my birthday. If there is a ramped entrance anywhere it should be signposted to stop this happening again. The last time I visited there was a metal ramp for the outside stone steps. No sign of this ramp today. It is difficult enough being disabled and access issues can really ruin a day.

Fantastic experience: Had the pleasure of attending a Wedding reception here on a Saturday afternoon. The staff Kimberley and Jake were great making the event go smoothly (all the other staff member were just as friendly) Great venue would definitely recommend.

Positive experience: Nice club and great facilities. Disappointing they don’t do anything for disabled. I.e disabled memberships/ disability discount bear in mind we cannot use all the facilities but would enjoy using the ones we can….

Fantastic experience: I had facial treatment there. The staff is lovely and very polite. They have a wide range of treatments to choose from I will definitely go back there and use other treatments.

Fantastic experience: I have been visiting EGCC for over 10 years. The spa and treatments are always relaxing and Shona has looked after me and my skin for many years. The restaurant staff are always welcoming, even if I just pop in for a tea. Their lunches and afternoon teas are wonderful and its is always an enjoyable visit.

Positive experience: Played 18 holes here today. Very nice course. We were following a slow group which wasn't a problem but the tees the other side of the tunnel would really benefit from some benches to sit on while waiting.

Positive experience: Recently visited here for a hen party, we booked a package which included a 45 minute treatment each, use of the pool facilities and a two course lunch. The actual facilities were good and we really enjoyed the outside pool however there seemed to be a big lack of communication between the staff regarding the itinerary of our day which was planned for us by the country club. We were not told prior to the day that we would need to bring our own towels after much back and forth they finally agreed to lend us only four towels (despite there being 8 of us). After the last few treatments it was time for our lunch, we waited in our room (we were put in a very dull looking conference room) for someone to come and take our lunch orders, after a while it was clear no one was coming to see us so we went down to the restaurant to find someone to come and take our orders - apparently they had not been informed of when we were having our lunch. Once the food finally arrived it was delicious and we didn’t have any complaints about the food. I opted for a facial for my treatment and it was great, I have forgotten the name of the lady who did it (she had a butterfly tattoo on her arm) but she was incredibly welcoming and explained everything to me before and after the treatment. Overall we had a good day but some more communication between the staff and from the staff to us would have made the experience so much better and more worth the money we paid.

Negative experience: Would not recommend as a place to host events. Food portions really tiny (and flavourless), everyone left very hungry. Room provided was dingy with no natural light. Speaker system very poor quality. Staff made us feel very unwelcome, had someone follow us from a distance whenever anyone left the room and stare at us. We were even told off for taking photos outside. All the guests seemed to act very respectful throughout the evening, so it makes me think they were just treating us like this because we were students. Not sure why they accepted the booking if they didn't want us there.

Negative experience: Very rude front desk and not helpful. Thx for your reply, but it seems that you did not even care what I am complaining and only assumed that it is because I forgot my membership card. So again, it is unprofessional customer service. You need to ask why I am complaining instead of guessing. The reason I am complaining: I have paid for the replacement cards for myself and my child, then your staff only gave me my replacement card, and said they could not give me my child replacement card as my child's membership was inactive . I explained that we joined the club together, and my child had class every week for 3 months and we paid for the fees every month so my child must be a member. Finally, we waited for more than 20 mins to get the replacement card. Again, we did not have the helpful customer service during the whole process, and the customer service did not even say sorry after we waited for 20min and late for our class.

Fantastic experience: Only came here for lunch and a swim as a guest of a friend. Absolutely loved it. Lunch on the terrace was brilliant and the swim in the pool, on such a hot day, was amazing. Not too many people and loads of available sun loungers. Very enjoyable and relaxing afternoon.

Fantastic experience: Recently rejoined the Golf and Country Club and have been to the Gym a couple of times. Reception staff very friendly and informative. Gym has all the equipment you could need. Indoor and outdoor pool really nice.

Fantastic experience: I visited for a cream tea with three other friends. The distancing measures put in place were really good and worked well. The staff were all friendly and attentive and the food itself was delicious. Will be going again!

Positive experience: Swimming in the pool was great and felt safe . However confusing which end of the pool I should get out. I have been told different things . Its a pity we cant have a quick rinse by the pool shower afterwards as it would get rid of the chemicals of the pool

Fantastic experience: Amazing facilities here, I can't recommend them enough. Staff are friendly, gym is great and the swimming was perfect. To top it off the steam rooms/sauna made me feel wonderful and to finish the event I had a lovely meal and a couple of pints. The food and drinks were great value for money. I havent played the golf here but the grounds look very well looked after and there is a certain essence of the whole place being well looked after and driven towards a great and hospitable agenda. I am going back!

Fantastic experience: Expensive but lovely place. Great facilities avaliable (swimming pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna). Pool is a little cold and hot tub very splashy, steam room has gotten steamier. Restaurant area is nice and their smoothies are very good.

Fantastic experience: Arranged a trial of some new golf irons with Chris (Honeywell) at Exeter Golf Club. He was an absolute gem and nothing was too much trouble. Tried several irons with varying shaft options all with great advice, knowledge , feedback and patience. Chris - tell Darren (Everett) - although I have already done so - you did a fabulous job. Now I just have to wait for delivery :-) :-)
