McCaulay's Health Club & Ivybridge Golf Club

Fantastic experience: Now completely refurbished with grade A equipment. On a par with anything around and better than most. Pool, golf, sauna and classes. Friendly, helpful staff. It's a way of life.

Positive experience: The gym equipment, although old, is still very functional. The pool is very nice with lanes for swimming however it would be nice if the timetable was more accessible and mentioned when they have a section used for swimming lessons. Currently on the timetable it will say the pool is completely open for free swim even though there will be a section you can't use while people are learning. My biggest complaint is that the main gym has no form of air conditioning or cooling! They used to have two old dusty fans in two corners but now there is just one old dusty fan. They also used to leave the back door open during summer to let some air in but they've stopped doing that.

Positive experience: Played golf, a 9 hole course. It's quite challenging, 5 x 3 pars & 4 x par 4's. Some tricky holes, not too busy, so good for a quick round. Very reasonable pricing, very friendly reception.

Fantastic experience: Great gym. A good amount of investment recently. Looking forward to the upgraded sauna and steam. As always, it's the staff that make or break a facility like this. Refurbishment starting very soon of the gym. Devon, Reuben, David and Jake are always pleasant, fun and professional. Some great classes and group workouts. Recommended.

Positive experience: Went predominantly to ask about the golf. The reception staff were lethargic and didn’t really sell the facility. Have left this as 4 star to be fair to the centre as I hadn’t seen all of the facilities

Negative experience: Had a free taster session to see what was on offer. I only swim, so didn't check out gym facilities. Changing rooms were lovely, pool is nice. The only issue, which was a deal breaker for me, was the extraction for the male changing is into the pool area. All you can smell and taste is men's deodorant, which is so bad that it makes breathing hard, and I don't have asthma. There's limited, if no, ventilation in the pool area.

Positive experience: I'm attending this gym for 5 years now. I like the place. Staff members are very friendly and helpful. I'm not happy with the swimming pool classes (are always on the most inconvinient time) and when something break down (steam sauna, the shower next door to the sauna) take months or years to be fixed!

Negative experience: Been a member here for around 6 months, it was pretty good at first but I just can't handle how gross and dirty the woman's changing rooms always are now. A sea of hair, water and dirt all over the floor whatever time/ day of the week I seem to go it's always rank in there! I don't even have huge standards for cleanliness but this is next level. Tried to go to the gym today, waited 15 mins and every treadmill was taken so I gave up. The shower next to the sauna has been broken since before I joined and the steam room which broke shortly after is still out of order. Seems like whoever owns it isn't willing to put any money into the upkeep of the place. Shame as it used to be good but it's gone downhill.

Negative experience: £13 for effectively a pitch and putt on the steepest slope is shocking. Edit: took my child to swim in an 'open session' 60-70% of the pool was closed for lanes and swim lessons. Won't catch me there again.

Positive experience: Great facilities. Really enjoy the swimming, sauna and jacuzzi. My only fault is the lack.of air conditioning in the fitness suites. It gets way too hot in there and makes the classes much less enjoyable

Fantastic experience: A good local gym. Not cheap but always equipment available for use. Car park sometimes very busy because of the swim club that use the pool but usually can park easily.

Fantastic experience: Excellent Covid Safe measures in place and feels very safe to visit. The swimming was very good value for money. The pool is sectioned up to keep people apart.

Positive experience: I use the golf course not the gym. Price is fantastic £10 a month membership is awesome and for the course it's worth it. Not an open qyality course but still good quality. The rough will swallow your ball like a hungry demon so stick to the wide well kept fairways with plenty of naturally produced obstacles. Greens are ok and somewhat consistent but you will have to deal with novices who have not repaired dents. Its beautiful views are one to marvel at if your game is going bad. A recommend starter course.

Fantastic experience: Lovely, large, spacious gym and pool. Had good communication with regular updates during covid. The only thing that I think could be improved on is some early morning gym classes before work that isnt spinning.. Maybe circuits? But overall it's a great gym and lovely staff :)

Fantastic experience: Been a member for several years now and since re-opening post lockdown, you can really see the thought and planning gone into making it a safe place to workout. Hand sanitizing stations at the entrance, walkways and on the gym floor. They're everywhere! Countless bottles of disinfectant and tissue to wipe down equipment after use and well segregated areas to workout in safely. Everyone I have seen has been doing their part cleaning equipment, particularly the staff. Vast majority of people social distancing and respecting each others space. Needn't feel apprehensive returning! Thanks everyone

Fantastic experience: Visited with a mate whose a member. Played golf then used the gym and pool. Very reasonable day, friendly staff, very clean facilities. The golf course was a decent size for practising, friendly locals chatting around the course. The gym had everything you needed with good size changing rooms. The pool was a decent size and although was busy still had plenty of room to swim. Highly recommend

Fantastic experience: Only ever played the golf course behind. It's a favourite with me n my son. A lot trickier than you'd expect with some tight fairways, water and trees it will challenge all levels of golfer. The views are stunning too!

Positive experience: I signed up for this gym as it has a pool and spa room included, and most classes are also included in the price. It's not ridiculously expensive either. It's in convenient and lovely location with plenty of parking. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. I liked it a lot!

Negative experience: Really poor in dealing with membership and payment inquiries and has completely put me off of Gyms!

Positive experience: Pretty decent facilities but huge room for improvement, particularly with customer service. Myself and all others i've spoken to at the gym feel the same in that the staff aren't particularly interested and this seems to trickle down from management. There's seldom a staff member on the gym floor to offer assistance or advice should anyone need it. I expect a number of people will move to the Leisure Centre once they open their new gym but Dinnaton could be great if a little more effort and enthusiasm was put in.

Positive experience: Been member over 7 years. Gym is tired looking but going through modernisation as I type this. New ideas but equipment is old . There are new machines been added but still have old machines. Golf course is well maintained and a must for any folder who likes a challenge.

Negative experience: Money interested gym with little competition. Tired swimming facilities, ok gym, but very expensive. They recently stopped all classes for a week, then shut the gym completely the following week, and offered members only a few guest passes as compensation for this - and only made those available for a very limited time too. Ask too late, and you got nothing. They should have refunded a week's membership at the very least - but they just don't care. Very sensitive to Facebook criticism - they're active in removing negative comments/reviews, and flooding it with positive "counter-reviews".

Fantastic experience: Value for money......its the best little course in Devon.Will be playing alot more after today's game....
