Our comment from FitFit UK about Verulamium Splash Park:
Verulamium Splash Park, located in the beautiful St Albans, is a wonderful destination for families seeking a mix of fun and relaxation. With scenic walking trails perfect for running or casual strolls, this park is an ideal spot to enjoy quality time with friends and family. Highlights include:
- Amazing splash park, loved by children and adults alike, providing hours of enjoyment on hot days.
- A variety of activities available such as football, volleyball, and exploring the nearby Roman ruins.
- A relaxing environment with picturesque views and delicious food options.
- Free admission to the splash park, making it a great budget-friendly outing.
- Many users recommend visiting on warmer days for the best experience.
However, it's important to note that during the colder months, parts of the park are closed, including the splash park, which may cause disappointment for visitors planning a day of water fun. Additionally, the need to book in advance for certain areas, such as the splash zone, could lead to confusion if proper signages and staff are not present. It’s advisable to arrive early as parking can become problematic during peak times. Overall, Verulamium Splash Park is a lovely venue, especially for families with young children looking to enjoy a refreshing day outdoors.
Verulamium Splash Park: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Beautiful park, great place for walking/running, being with your friends or family & just relax. I visited in the winter and parts of the park were drowned. I am sure that in warmer weather it’s the best place for a picnic & other activities. Recommend to visit if you are in town.
Positive experience: Amazing splash park me and my friends loves it definitely will come back
Positive experience: Lovely park but be aware splash park not open
Fantastic experience: Good view and delicious food
Fantastic experience: Amazing place to take children, as they absolutely love water ❤️ and this is the place to enjoy and have fun,,,adults too.
Fantastic experience: my 4 year old loved it
Fantastic experience: Que park incrível, lindo, super sossegado, divertido, excelente para crianças, eu amei, muito bonito, fazer pic nic aqui é ótimo
Fantastic experience: Grandaughter loved it nice place to spend time especially on a hot day.
Fantastic experience: Love going. Kids had a fab time.
Fantastic experience: Had an amazing time, lots of activities for the kids too!
Fantastic experience: Really good place to go on a hot day
Fantastic experience: Didn’t splash But look at those clouds Pretty park
Fantastic experience: It was so much fun with my grandchildren at this park.
Fantastic experience: Great place to take the kids on a hot summer's day
Negative experience: Difficult to navigate the website and choose a 9 hole experience
Positive experience: Wonderful for kids on a hot day and it's free
Negative experience: Booked, paid, arrived at a shut gate. Spent 45 minutes wandering around trying to get in. Nobody picks up the phones. Small sign saying closed Saturdays. Why take my money and let me book?
Negative experience: Golf course were okay good for a quick round of golf practice swings and a short game. Worries about the car park run out of time when the course are busy.
Positive experience: Splash park closed for winter, so...
Fantastic experience: A warmer day in winter gets many kinds of birds. It is delightful to watch the birds jumping and chirping by the lakeside near.
Positive experience: Not as big as I thought it would be. Not very impressive. Really needs to made a lot bigger and have a lot more to do in there. Kids were disappointed was it closed when we visited. In the middle of august on one of the hottest days of the year it was closed. Hopefully on the next visit it will be open.
Fantastic experience: Kid’s friendly and great park to do a lot of activities such as walking, playing round, splashing water, football, volleyball and more to do also you can walk to Roman ruins and explore the historic places.
Fantastic experience: Great place for kids to cool off.
Positive experience: Toddlers splash park, quite small and meant for younger children. Ours weren't that young but it wasnt crowded when we were there so they didn't upset anyone. We had to book our places as there is a limit on numbers, but there was no one to check us in which made a mockery of the booking process.
Fantastic experience: Very clean park with lots of activities for children of different ages.
Fantastic experience: Fun place...I always take my little son there to play
Positive experience: It's a very nice a beautiful scenic place. It's has a splash park and play ground.
Positive experience: Its a nice place. Having to book still though is crazy.
Fantastic experience: Lovely splash park
Fantastic experience: A lovely morning spent here with my daughter and 2 year old grandson
Positive experience: My little one really enjoyed the splash park ☺️
Positive experience: Kids had a great time and it wasn't overcrowded. Shame there's no one to make sure the place is safe. Some older kids were playing football which could have hurt toddlers.
Positive experience: Good
Positive experience: Nice but feels bit outdated.
Positive experience: Don't use personally as a family but it seems like a very good facility. Can get quite busy.
Positive experience: Loved it very clean children able to play without any trouble
Fantastic experience: Love this splash park for my grandchildren. You can spend your allocated time in the park and then go on to Do other activities.
Fantastic experience: Very good park....Nice experience....have fun...but book splash area in advance...it's on precooked basis
Positive experience: Good facilities but staff oblivious to what's going on - expected when you only hire teenagers. Decent family day out (if you book multiple slots) also a nice cafe a short walk away.
Positive experience: Good for the kids to have fun, the water does turn off around 6pm if in the summer months. Nice little shop too prices are average does take card.
Fantastic experience: Lovely little splash park (need to book online prior to going) but the only thing is there is restricted parking. So I strongly advise to come early and I mean a fair bit as I've ended waiting 30mins for a spot.
Positive experience: The kids enjoyed the water and the caricature...but I think with à cool water not really cold that will be amazing. But still love my kids hapiness in there.
Positive experience: Nice leafy and very quiet course with a real mix of hole lengths. 7 par 3s and 2 par 4s. The location is great for St Albans as otherwise you are having to go to Redbourn for 9 holes and that is a 30 minute round trip. 2 hours of free parking covers the whole round. Greens are generally pretty good condition. There are a few issues. The fairways are narrow and there isn't much of a rough to speak of. If you don't hit it straight it's a lost ball or you might even hit it onto a neighbouring hole. You need to keep your wits about you to if people are playing the other way (hole 2&3 and hole 1&9 are most at risk for this). There are a lot of walkers and dog walkers about. Moreso than other golfers. There are no tee areas, just tee mats and they are really not in great condition. A practice swing and the clubhead comes away covered in mud. The round is cheap if you can wait for a PM tee time. I wouldn't do an early morning time as it costs the same as Redbourn which is a better maintained and landscaped course and also has better practice facilities (driving range, chipping area and full clubhouse).
Fantastic experience: Great and simple booking and there is a kiosk for or snacks i didn't know about
Positive experience: Was not up and running
Positive experience: It's open! Great fun for kids. Nice cold water :)
Fantastic experience: Great venue
Positive experience: Good course, with amazing views. The view down the 7th and 9th holes are just amazing! Lots of simple par 3s and a short par 4 to open. Hole 8, a par 4, can be a real challenge, nice work! Greens certainly need some love, and maybe have rubber tees built into the mats? Could also do with some better sign posting between holes, some tee boxes aren't where you'd expect. A chipping net would be awesome to warm up. Watch out for ramblers, dog walkers, and even the odd cyclist going over fairways! Not the usual golf hazards, but they are present. Main complaint is the online prices shown when booking are ALWAYS lower that the price you'll pay when you arrive at the course. Often 25-50% more than the advertised price
Negative experience: It was closed
Fantastic experience: Great splash park for the little ones. Perfect for a sunny day.
Fantastic experience: Been to this park a few times and can't fault it. You can feel the history when coming to this park with the addition of the new attractions. Children always enjoy going there
Fantastic experience: Great experience
Fantastic experience: Well worth a visit
Fantastic experience: Great splash park for big and little ones enjoyed on the hot summer day. Free of charge
Fantastic experience: Great park/ splash park is good shame there the staff are not there on time to open it
Fantastic experience: Only walked past it, but still popular with families
Fantastic experience: Nice tight little par 3. Well maintained, with nice gentle up and down terrain, and plenty of trees. Greens a bit slow. Nice views of the abbey. Free parking for 2 hours, still need a ticket.
Positive experience: Nice experience, fun course a little bit run down, tee markers missing on a few holes but worth a try for sure.
Fantastic experience: Surrounding was beautiful but the splash park was closed due to covid-19
Negative experience: Golf course very run down. Greens and fairways are horrible and very uneven. Looks like foot golf has taken its toll on the course. No area to tee off with a tee and plenty of divots. Play elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Good golf course and good value for money.
Fantastic experience: Best running track I've lost my breath on.
Positive experience: 9 hole pitch and putt. Not bad.
Positive experience: Good size but could do with some more jets for the kids to play in
Fantastic experience: Wonderful facility for all runners in St Albans! The track was relaid with the latest materials in 2019 and is fast, springy and in excellent condition. The views whilst running are very pleasant: trees on one side, Verulamium Park and St Albans Abbey to the other. The track is open to the public unless being used by the local schools or running club, and is usually very quiet. Best to call up in advance to check usage. When not being used by a school or running club, the cost per visit is about £4 or free if you have monthly membership at Batchwood OneLife Sports Centre. There's also a huge car park (search for Westminster Lodge) within a moment's walk offering free parking for up to 2 hours. I love coming here to do speed work. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to give track running a try!
Negative experience: Could be cleaner and better maintained
Fantastic experience: Went for a walk around the lakes. Gorgeous day with gorgeous sights.
Positive experience: Lovely place to walk
Fantastic experience: Lovely place to go with family and friends.
Positive experience: Closed for the winter now but a nice enough splash park
Fantastic experience: Really good for kids!
Positive experience: Saw British strongman contest great venue .
Fantastic experience: Such a lovely park. The splash area was clean and tidy.
Positive experience: Love walking around the lake here. The splash park looks great
Fantastic experience: Lovely park. Kids enjoy it a lot.
Positive experience: Great splash zone set in the beautiful St Alban's Park. Splash zone is free but parking can be a problem...so get there by 10 am to get a parking spot if you don't want to waste time looking for one.
Negative experience: Great Park at St Albans but water in the lake is polluted and smells bad. Local council and District must pay attention to this.
Negative experience: Sunday 25th went to splash park with family which was spoilt by a group of adults having water fight with water guns and messing around. This ended in adults fighting and police being called. This is a Toddlers Splash Park and not an adults splash park. Council website states the splash park is for children under 12 years old with adult supervision. NO SIGNAGE TO INDICATE AGE LIMIT AND NO STAFF ON DUTY.
Fantastic experience: lovely place to get cooling down, strongly recommend, fun for all ages
Positive experience: Place is nice, but water way too cold especially for young kids. 5* is water at least luke warm
Positive experience: It need more shade around, besides that great fun for the kids
Positive experience: Children love this facility.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place great bargain
Fantastic experience: Excellent 400m oval track, fully marked up for all distances and hurdles, and 100m sprint section, with hammer enclosure, long and high jump pits, just resurfaced this year (2019). Heavily used by local sports and athletics clubs. I've never used the golf course.
Fantastic experience: Cool
Positive experience: A lovely big park near the centre of St Albans.
Positive experience: Noice
Fantastic experience: Amazing
Positive experience: I reckon it's kind of designed for kids 3 to 10 but still it's good in the heat
Fantastic experience: Great for young children
Positive experience: Saw the Ultimate Strongman show here. Grass seating was a little far from the field and they'd run out of parking hours before the event started.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous place for family day!
Fantastic experience: A great park in the heart of a vi rant town offering a vast array of food from diverse cuisines, so loads to choose from, and something for the kids. What more do you want during the school holidays and weekends! Highly recommended
Positive experience: Nice short course for those new to golf - except for the abundance of long grass heavy rough next to fairways. Lost count of 'good' drives that have ended up with lost balls.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place and has food and rest room nearby but expensive
Fantastic experience: Such a lovely place to go with children, they and run and run .Play in the water walk around the pond .Stop at the cafe ,or go to the waffle house .
Fantastic experience: Nice plaze
Positive experience: It was a little bit cold and very windy so nobody was using it today but I bet in the summer when that's nice and warm but that's mad there
Positive experience: Can get VERY busy and it seems like it's not open for long enough in the year but on those very hot days it's a great place to be to stay cool. Great for kids but also not bad for parents when it's very hot.
Negative experience: Checked on the website for kids to go splash it said it was open 7 days a week. Went down with 6 kids and 4 adults took 2 cars for the kids to enjoy got there to see the splash part is closed and had been for few days and will be closed for maybe another 2 weeks. This should have been reported on website for people to see as we travelled 25 miles with kids esp for the splash.
