Fantastic experience: Great place to take the grand kids aTen PIin Bowling and Table Tennis in the school holidays. Good value family ticket for the bowling.

Positive experience: Much better than it used to be back in the day, with money spent improving facilities. We like the bowling, especially on glow in the dark evenings. Decent amount of parking, staff usually friendly and helpful. And handily near to Marsh Mill or Hickory's for some good food too

Negative experience: Decent leisure centre with good facilities, however, I have not been impressed with the services recently. For over a year, me and my friends have been playing badminton on a weekly basis - I would consider myself a loyal customer. There is a HUGE issue with the pricing at this leisure centre. There has been ZERO consistency in the pricing system. Prices have varied from £7.50 per hour, to £15 per hour, to £7.50 per player. As a result, I decided to download the YMCA app a few months ago, where there is a fixed price of £7.50 per hour per court (which I believe is a fair price). I have been paying this for a few weeks now, and have receipts and confirmation emails of my bookings. Despite this, on Friday, I was told that this had been an advertisement error from the YMCA, and the price should be double, so I was forced to pay an additional £15 if I wanted to play. Even so, if I have already pre-booked and paid for the court, then I should be able to use the facilities for the advertised price. After all, I have done nothing wrong. The staff have caused nothing but hassle for something which should be a pretty simple issue to resolve. You, as staff, should know the prices of your activities. If I am able to book a badminton court for £7.50 via the app, and receive confirmation of said booking, then you have no right to force further payment. Especially if any errors are from your side. It is such a shame that I have faced difficulties when dealing with this specific issue, and I am truly disappointed in the customer service. This problem has tarnished what could’ve been a fabulous review because I enjoy the activities which are offered at Thornton YMCA, the facilities are great, and the staff can be very helpful at times (such as lending us shuttlecocks). To be brutally honest, there is a clear lack of structure and organisation. Someone needs to get a clue. If I want to play badminton, it should be easy to pay - I should be able to book online or via the phone, turn up on time, and pay a set amount EVERY WEEK. It is so frustrating that so much hard work has been made from a very simple concept. Unfortunately, I will be exploring other options as I am fed up with this service.

Negative experience: Machines need a good clean. There is mould growing in the corners of the screens on the cross trainers etc. this is not an exaggeration but literal fuzzy green mould around the corners of the screens

Fantastic experience: Nice size leisure centre with plenty of activities for all ages with a great all inclusive membership offer at reasonable price. Used the gym and the tenpin bowling( extra charge). Little one does karate and gymnastics and its great for her. Plenty of parking. Toilets and changing areas available. There is a coffee and snack shop inside also.

Negative experience: Lift not working (again) not so good when you are a disabled customer and struggle with stairs

Fantastic experience: I haven't been bowling since I was sixteen, I used to go to the Mecca in Blackpool. Four of us went to the YMCA at Thornton. We had a great time, its certainly changed since I used to go and I'm touching 70 now and there is no writing scores down on pads anymore.

Negative experience: Had a really nice time at the YMCA, took my friends children bowling and went to get something from the cafe on the way out. The manager came over and we said we needed a few more minute because we were waiting for someone to arrive. Then 5 minutes later he came back and accused us of sitting in the chairs and not ordering from the cafe. He made us feel really uncomfortable and we noticed other customers were looking at us so we decided not to purchase anything and leave. Unfortunately we will not be back :(

Fantastic experience: Very good gym for building some muscle and to get fit, but if your thinking if going down the bodybuilding route then this is not directly for you. There is bumbells up to a good weight and lots of machines but when you get really strong the weight stacks are no good for certain muscle groups or exercises.

Positive experience: Good variety of fitness opportunities including tenpin bowling. Staff friendly and helpful. The steak pie in the cafe is very nice!

Positive experience: Use the gym on a regular basis ,caters for everyone, disabled ,old and young ,clean and pleasant place to exercise, could do with a refurbishment now looking a bit tired .

Fantastic experience: We were on holiday nearby, googled ten pin bowling and this popped up! Reasonable priced, nice clean,you could buy meals snacks and drinks.Some amusements were out of order which was ashame.We would have stayed longer. Great little find.

Negative experience: Staff and instructors are all doing a great job I cannot rate them highly enough. However, the spinning classes are now becoming a joke due to the poor condition of the spinning bikes used. Rarely is a spinning class able to start on time due to bikes having to be swapped or changed mid way though the class. It’s only a matter of time before somebody is hurt due to their poor maintenance.

Fantastic experience: We went to the bowling-family session £20 for 6 for an hour! We phoned the previous day to book and pay. No problems when we arrived. Advised our lane number and we were off. We could have been advised on how to program the machines with all our names but a lovely lady in the lane next to us, pointed us in the right direction. It was clean and tidy. We will be back :)

Fantastic experience: Came here for a bowling birthday party. The kids loved it. An hour bowling was perfect so the kids didn't get bored. They had the UV lighting on which all the kids thought was amazing. The staff were lovely. I've never been here before but since I'm only a 30 minute drive away I think we'll be coming back as a family

Fantastic experience: Wow! What a great hour we spent ten pin bowling with our daughter and our two grandchildren aged 5 & 10. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The small cafe is well stocked and reasonably priced and the seating area was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. If you are looking for a fun place to spend an hour with your kids, I can thoroughly recommend the YMCA ten pin bowling alley, but don't forget to book ahead as it is very popular.

Positive experience: The bowling was what you would expect, however the staff were not at all communicative. Happy to take my money, but instead of warning my friends and I about closing time they just turn off the arcade games while you're playing. We found that very rude.

Negative experience: The bowling was cheap.... however, there wasn't any food or drinks available. We had 2 hours of bowling, and the cafe was closed due to the building being quiet. To make things worse, the vending machine was out of order. I was with children. To then be told I wasn't allowed to bring my own food and drinks. Worst place I have ever been for bowling!

Positive experience: Seems to be running a skeleton service. Spinning bikes in the skate park- looks very unprofessional. Can’t give dates when things will reopen fully. Worst of all though they’re charging full price for half a service. It’s like paying full price at Alton towers but only half the rides are open.
