Fantastic experience: Couldn’t find a better gym! Feel so comfortable as a female going to the gym alone, not intimidating at all & so welcoming from the start. Great kit & always adding new kit too!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been using Alpha for some time now and love the vibe of the gym. You won’t find a more attentive gym owner either! I’ve been using the PT service and have found it way more beneficial compared to other gyms I’ve used. I honestly wouldn’t consider using anything or anywhere else, and will always rely on Alpha to get me to where I want to be! I’ve found the gym to be quite inclusive, most people get on with their workout whilst also maintaining a level of banter - it’s what you want when you’re in a small, local gym.

Fantastic experience: My favourite place to be!! Great facilities, a great team and great overall vibes! I’ve never felt awkward or uncomfortable coming into Alpha, everyone is welcoming & supportive - both staff and members! It’s such a lovely community to be a part of, I wouldn’t train any where else!

Fantastic experience: Great gym. Maurice is an excellent Personal Trainer for people of all ages and abilities. Lots of improvements and upgrades currently taking place that will be ready for the summer. Can't wait!

Fantastic experience: Definitely the nicest gym in the town. The only other one is a bit boring and basic but this one has a vibe. Love the decor and equipment, I'm not really a weights person but this gym has everything that I need and feel comfortable with for a good workout. I love the Stairmaster which I've never seen before and it's great for bums!

Positive experience: A really nice gym. The staff are lovely, the gym is well laid out and has decent equipment for general training. The deadlift platform isn't very good, and the knurling is worn off on all the bars, but those are the only negatives I found. I'll definitely be using this gym again when I visit the area :)

Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend Maurice at Alpha Athletic enough, in 8 weeks of PT sessions I have achieved more than I could have dreamed of and lost 1 stone ready for my holiday. He has been very supportive throughout the process and helped with my nutrition too! I was in a rut with myself but I’ve got a new found confidence! Thank you so much!

Fantastic experience: Alpha is friendly, inviting and non-intimidating. It welcomes everyone to come and enjoy fitness and training however they like. Fully stocked with quality Watson equipment, 2 squat racks, Watson SSB, a lifting platform, floor space, cables and free weights, there is a wide variety of training options. I came to Alpha feeling shy to powerlift in public. Now I don't. I love it!

Fantastic experience: For me walking back into a gym, as a woman with very little confidence was the hardest part. The training facility is clean, can’t fault the staff and the state-of-art gym equipment - now that’s a wow factor! I signed up to PT with Maurice in January, for accountability and the undeniable professional knowledge that he has built and worked hard for. The sessions are TOUGH! We’ve laughed…I’ve cried, but I’ve learned so much already. I can’t thank Maurice enough for the support, encouragement and the patience that he’s dedicated throughout our sessions. Maurice should be proud of the friendly atmosphere that he has created at Alpha, I’d recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat!

Fantastic experience: Having joined the gym two months ago I cannot praise the gym or Maurice enough who trains with me twice a week. I have received sound advice on all aspects of nutrition, wellbeing, sleep and exercise. This has led to such an improvement in my sleeping patterns, mood and weight loss of nearly a stone, halfway to my target weight. I would recommend the gym without hesitation to any of my friends and family. If you are looking for an inclusive place to train with great equipment and advice then this gym is definitely the place to go!

Negative experience: Never been to a more toxic gym in my life and I've lived all over. The owner Maurice is just constantly furious (likely roid abuse) and starts on anyone available. Won't help others with equipment. Won't let anyone challenge him and goes around blocking paying customers when they don't agree with him on social media. He has incredibly toxic attitudes towards women and is demeaning of women who lift weights. He starts on people parking in his car park. Just generally starts on anyone available. He's also been in the national news for driving onto tram tracks wasted. I honestly think he needs help! Please note I have given a false name in this review because I'm genuinely physically intimidated by the owner of this gym, so when the inevitable rude reply comes that there is no record of me I can assure you I was once very much a member. I'm happy to provide evidence of this to anyone, obviously excluding the owner or his friends for safety reasons.

Fantastic experience: My lower back was in spasm, I was in so much pain. Hannah was fantastic, very thorough in finding out my history and treating me. I'm now able to move properly and am out of pain. I would definitely recommend.

Fantastic experience: Very friendly and accommodating with a really good range of resistance equipment and fat grips on just about everything you can imagine. Definitely recommend. More weight and resistance equipment - whilst there are several cardio machines it's probably not the place to go if you're a cardio bunny. You can also get protein bars/shakes/meals and other drinks there. Bit tight on space but that's what you get for having such an unbelievable selection of equipment in a pretty rural town, and people are pretty friendly about sharing space

Fantastic experience: Awesome place to train, great atmosphere, amazing equipment. The gym caters for all from beginners to experienced gym goers. Help / advice is always at hand and what I personally love is when the staff advise on exercises and techniques for improvement. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: The best independent gym that I've been to. Truly welcoming place to train, such a great atmosphere, with everyone making the choice to "Decide, Commit, Succeed". Trained here since April and my results have been much better than I expected thanks to their phenomenal equipment. I would recommend to all!

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing place to train. I felt more comfortable walking in than I ever have at any other gym. The equipment is second to none and the attention to detail is crazy! Maurice is fantastic and always on hand if you need anything. All the members I have come across so far are friendly, there is a real community spirit, the whole vibe at Alpha is great!
