Westwoods Health Club

Positive experience: Westwoods is a leisure centre and gym located in Fettes College Grounds. It offers not only a well equipped gym but also fitness classes, a sauna / stream room, and a 25m 'Clear Water' swimming pool. The gym itself has everything you will need. From dumbbells to weight machines. And treadmills to rowing machines. There is always a fitness instructor / gym assistant around if you have anything you need or any advice. The swimming pool is fantastic. Being a 'Clear Water' swimming pool means there is no chlorine, so if like me you're skin is a little sensitive then don't worry this pool will be exactly what you need. The sauna and steam room are located by the edge of the pool and are great to relax in after a swim or workout. Westwoods has classes running daily. There is yoga, pilates, aerobics etc etc . So there is something for everyone. There is also a cafe on-site if you feel peckish after your visit. All in all it's a very welcoming gym with very friendly staff and a good range of facilities. The cafe is a bit on the expensive side so I knocked off a star for that. But the rest is great.

Negative experience: Poor customer service over the phone. Don’t do day passes, when I asked why, the guy on the phone hung up.

Positive experience: Excellent staff and friendly welcome as they showed me all gym, swimming pool, sauna & steam room facilities. I did my exercise routine in the gym itself. It's a rather small one with state of the art machines, dumbbells, kettlebells and free weights. Because of space restrictions there's a lack of abdominal, adductors, abductors, calf machines, etc. That said, the staff is great and the crowd is very friendly. Excellent choice if your main choice is the swimming pool and cleansing sauna. Recommended.

Fantastic experience: Westwoods is the best. The staff care for the members, the studios are specious and have stunning views, the standard of teaching is very high. The pool is 25 meters and often quiet. I will definitely recommend Westwoods as the gym to join.

Fantastic experience: Great place to swim and workout while visiting Edinburgh if you’re staying close enough - it’s walkable from my place in Stockbridge, but there’s also plenty of parking. They are offering a great summer price special. Matthew at the front was super helpful getting me signed up and oriented. All of the staff have been very friendly. The gym is well equipped, very clean, and not too busy during the day. Plenty of lane space in the pool for laps. The water is too warm for a serious swim workout, but this is usually the case for multipurpose aquatic facilities.

Fantastic experience: Excellent place to train. It is may be a little more expensive compared to others in Edinburgh but this is never overcrowded and it is located in a idilic place close to inverness park

I was only a member for a short time before relocating but all staff have been approachable and friendly, creche was a breath of fresh air and I was well looked after by postnatally trained gym staff. Highly recommend this health club, a little bit gutted I have to leave.

Positive experience: We play badminton here every friday and the staff are really friendly and helpful. Kids are welcomed to come and there's good parking available as well. The price can be a little expansive which is why I'm giving it 4* but the staff and location are excellent. The lights in the sports hall can take a little getting used to but are sufficient and the courts are good for badminton

Fantastic experience: Came here for a badminton tournament and I was certainly impressed with the overall facilities. The lighting could have been better in the badminton hall. The big windows were letting in too much sunlight that it made it difficult to see the shuttlecock. However, I was certainly won over by the friendly staff. We had numerous injuries throughout the day and the staff, without hesitation, was happy to hand out disposable ice packs to help with sprains and strains. It was certainly much appreciated!

Fantastic experience: Excellent health club located in the grounds of Fettes college. I have recently become a member and am very glad I did. Outstanding facilities, great staff and service, plus members' benefits that are unheard of at other gyms.
