Our comment from FitFit UK about The Western Baths Club:
The Western Baths Club in Glasgow is a historic gem that beautifully blends vintage charm with modern leisure facilities. Users have praised its stunning architecture and the inviting nature of its impressive swimming pool, often regarded as one of the best indoor pools in the world. The club provides various amenities, including a well-maintained gym, yoga and fitness classes, saunas, steam rooms, and even a bar/restaurant with a lovely atmosphere.
Visitors have enjoyed the clean and beautiful environment, mentioning its excellent staff who create a welcoming ambiance. Family-friendly features, like dedicated children's swimming lessons and classes, ensure it's a great spot for all ages. Many long-time members highlight the sense of community, often referring to the club as a 'home from home.'
However, some feedback points to areas for improvement, particularly regarding food quality and management responsiveness in certain situations. While the menu offers variety, it could greatly benefit from enhanced freshness and flavor. Furthermore, a few members have noted issues with accessibility and outdated facilities that could use modernization.
Overall, The Western Baths Club remains a beloved institution, offering a relaxing oasis in the heart of Glasgow, perfect for swimming, socializing, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The Western Baths Club: Opinions
Fantastic experience: The historic swimming pool offers a charming blend of vintage ambience and modern leisure, with its beautifully preserved architecture and inviting waters. However, the experience is somewhat let down by the quality of the food served. While the menu is varied, the dishes lack the freshness and flavour you'd hope for in such a unique setting. With a bit more attention to the quality of the cuisine, this spot could truly become a standout destination for both swimming and dining.
Fantastic experience: The architectural designs here are worth seeing, stunning. The swinging beams over the pool are great for strength, skill and entertainment value. Lovely pool, clean, great facilities. Decent showers. Original cool dip plunge bath
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely lunch there with my husbad who is a member
Fantastic experience: Some place. An experience of a lifetime.
Positive experience: Good facilities
Negative experience: I usually really like the western baths, I’ve been going for years. I rejoined and went for a walk around to have a look and happened to walk in on gents night in the sauna. Fair enough, my mistake. But I was treated like I was stupid for looking around and when I called to complain later I was told that because I was given a timetable that the staff were actually just being helpful, this is ridiculous.
Fantastic experience: Great venue with great people
Fantastic experience: Excellent place to swim and relax.
Fantastic experience: Love the pool
Positive experience: Poor management

Fantastic experience: A beautiful building
Fantastic experience: Been a member for 16 years. Great place.
Negative experience: Over rated for people with too much money.
Fantastic experience: Very impressive pool & surroundings
Negative experience: Really disappointed, saw on the website they advertise senior community badminton Tue, Thur. Travelled quite a distance then told at reception it costs £5 but is private invite only. Perhaps pop that on your website lol. Never mind but very annoying and pretentious.
Fantastic experience: Great little place to enhance your wellbeing.
Negative experience: Rather outdated elitest establishment.
Fantastic experience: Great
Fantastic experience: Lovely old fashioned baths with great facilities. Good food served in the cafe.
Fantastic experience: Stunning
Positive experience: Parking is almost impossible get bus or train
Fantastic experience: One of my favourite places in the world
Fantastic experience: A hidden gem in the heart of the city. No better way to relax or hit the gym in style, with a variety of classes available aswell as 1 to 1 opportunities with fitness instructors. Very family friendly. This place has everything from a bar/restaurant to a hairdresser and masseuse and even a creche for those little pre-school members too .
Fantastic experience: A home from home.
Positive experience: Such an unusual place to go for a swim
Fantastic experience: Wonderful place, friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: nice
Fantastic experience: Perfection I loved my visit
Fantastic experience: One of best indoor pools in the world.
Positive experience: Lovely afternoon with coffee and cake.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic historical building. Very reasonably priced with plenty of eccentric characters to make you smile
Fantastic experience: Kind of an old building which has been a baths and sports centre for many years, I attend ballet class their on a Sunday. It is membership only but I think that you could pay as you go. Very nice and clean inside, welcoming staff.
Positive experience: With its rustic charm the WB's will not suit the hardcore gym bunny. It is a private members club offering a social scene as well as well-being facilities.
Negative experience: For such an expensive place, their lockers do not work with the new (NOW OLD) pound coin
Positive experience: Excellent good staff and facilities and food
Positive experience: Excellent sport facilities and staff
Fantastic experience: Use the pool through a club called 'Glasgow Triathlon Club' brilliant people.
Fantastic experience: So good and idilic that I don't want to give this place any publicity. Ssssshhhhh
Fantastic experience: Lovely club. Great staff. Kept in prime condition and true to it's heritage
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, lovely staff, incredible place. Well worth every penny.
Negative experience: Unfriendly staff and badly located
Positive experience: Nice building
Fantastic experience: Relaxing, friendly
Fantastic experience: Went there for a christening party, the bar area was great and recently renovated. Had a quick peek at the pool and would live to try the trapeze.
Fantastic experience: Top baths, ideal for children
Fantastic experience: Love the trapeze!
Fantastic experience: A Glasgow institution and deservedly so. Great pool which is never too busy, excellent sauna and Turkish/Russian bath facilities. Friendly and helpful staff throughout.
Fantastic experience: We've had Family Membership for several years. It's like a second home at times! Great swimming instructors for the kids, very effective fitness and wellbeing classes for the grown-ups, beautiful pool, great gym and fab changing & shower facilities, not to mention the saunas and steam rooms! Love it.
Fantastic experience: A great members club that also welcomes non members. WBC is deservedly a west end institution. It offers great facilities, is very friendly and has great staff.
Fantastic experience: The "Sports Club" without the hard sell , a modern club within a traditional setting , relaxation or exertion its all there and a bar with great ambiance used regularly all at a competitive price .
Positive experience: Joined last year and have been very impressed with the range of facilities on offer in the heart of the west end. Staff are very helpful and have met many people through the various clubs and activities. Interesting eclectic mix of traditional and modern sports facilities. Deepend bar and bistro in need of modernisation but this is being addressed soon through a £100k plus refurbishment programme. All in all great value for money!
Fantastic experience: Been a member since 1979 and during my working years, regular visits to the baths to swim, use the gym, take yoga classes and relax in the hot and steam rooms, helped me relax and unwind. Now, semi-retired I value the quieter day time visits - still keeping fit but also value the chat with friends made over many years. Very relaxed atmosphere with great staff. Regular programme of upgrade has improved facilities without losing the Victorian charm. Of course as a private club subs are significant, but for me membership is now an essential and not just a 'nice to have'.
Fantastic experience: A social club in the West end of Glasgow could sound like quite an old fashion concept !!! May be a little Victorian? But The Western Baths Club is just simply a magical place a few steps away from the famous Botanics Gardens right in the heart of Glasgow's very own West End. You can see the University of Glasgow Tower from there. Definitively where the action is... Member for over ten years I feel very protective of the "Baths" as we call it (although its a lot of other things as well as just a pool...) This is a heaven of peace, where you can decide to rest, exercise, swim, meet friends, bring your children, work (in the library/office/wifi facility) have a coffee, a sauna, a steam, go to a Zumba class, learn Yoga... celebrate the New Year etc etc). Its a long term business for most of the members, and many of them come as a family, we joined when my daughter was attending the local primary school... The "Baths" is where the local children come after school to swim or hang about with friends. Its friendly and safe, clean and well accomodated... Later the youngsters learn the ropes of the rings above the pool to impress their almost girlfriends... Later they might join the gym or just pass for a few years but suddenly they are adults and you find them in the sauna or the fitness suit. For me I like a mix of relaxation in the sauna or energetic Zumba class. I like the mix of activities, I think the facilities are very enjoyable and I can be one of the ladies on ladies days turning up with a packed sandwich and a take away coffee to sit in the comfy chairs before heading for some sporty something before my sauna and ploof in the icy cold plunge pool... they say its good to make the blood circulate. We all know one another and its a bit like a big family, But we are the friendly kind and we welcome new members all the time (well from time to time). They, in turn will discover what float their boat in the club, wether they come in because of the babies swimming lessons, the ladies zumba classes or the golf outings... there is so much for everyone. Oh !!! Did I forget to mention the building? Listed and so Victorian looking, one of those old buildings you see in films thinking I so wish I had a club like this? Well you could just... Approach us, we wont bite... May be you could visit at the next open days, we occasionally open to non members for a short while.
Fantastic experience: The few negative comments are sadly typical of the trolls that infest ‘Reviews’ on virtually any site. Given that there’s a substantial waiting list, I’d say it was safe to be guided by the majority and ignore the negative & unconstructive. The Baths provides an oasis of calm between work & home and as a place to escape our dismal winter weather, it’s an absolute godsend. Fees: Given the extensive range of facilities offered by The Western and it’s associations with other clubs, its fees are extraordinarily reasonable. I toted up the annual ‘average sports club fees’ (2013 figures) for the range of facilities offered and came up with a figure of at least £750 which comfortably exceeds that of the club. It’s also in good health financially and thus able to continuously upgrade its amenities.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic Club with gym, studio, saunas and steam rooms, fabulous pool and many relaxation areas in Glasgow's West End - we love it! The facilities are classic in style in keeping with the age of the building - not flashy just warm and traditional. Amazing yoga teachers and Personal Training services and a great safe environment for kids. Recommended, for an all round Club style experience, rather than just a pool. Very welcoming environment - top place!
Fantastic experience: Been a Family member now for over 15 years. Without a doubt, incredible value for money in terms of facilities and service. Variety of classes, at all skills levels, in a very encouraging and friendly environment. The pool in superb and the best part it the realistic perspective on 'safety' in a world that has become ridiculously 'risk adverse'. Children (and adults) are encouraged to learn about calculating risk - taking opportunities to challenge themselves - encouraged and coached and then manage new skills in the pool, on the trapeze, the rings and diving board. Place keeps me sane in winter! So funny the hygiene review - its what you bring in with you that counts lol
Fantastic experience: Very welcoming reception. The russian/Turkish suite is good for chilling out. I use the gym and appreciate the lack of queues and canned music and absence of showing off. I enjoy the yoga and pilates classes and think the instructors for these are very good. The club is particularly good for retired people not constrained by working hours.
Negative experience: Dated little club, living in the past. Facilities poor and management seem vacant and unprofessional. Could be great if brought into the 21st century.
Fantastic experience: Amaaaaaazing
Fantastic experience: Newly a member and this is one of the best experiences in Glasgow: gorgeous marble showers, a bath, footbaths, relaxation room, Russian and Turkish rooms, Tepidarium and Roman Plunge pool plus proper Scandinavian sauna and the brilliant historic pool with trapeze. Very good for the stress - also, you can catch up with the news in the Solarium. Once you learn the timetables and the rules (place your shoes on the rack, hang your coat, no mobiles past a certain point, wash before you go into the pool or the wet rooms, etc), it's an exquisite place to socialise or have a slice of solitude.
