Bramley Baths: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Always a lovely experience
Fantastic experience: Bramley Baths is such a lovely environment. Friendly staff, beautiful building & great services! Grateful to have it on our doorstep!
Fantastic experience: Lovely birthday party event today to celebrate 120 years of Bramley Baths. They had performers on, arts and crafts and dress up for the kids and some refreshments and goody bags. Would have been nice to have a few fundraising stalls, e.g. tombola and raffle
Fantastic experience: Use to go there with primary school use to love it with the noodles and floats and that's were I got all my dolphins from
Fantastic experience: Friendly helpful staff and good facilities.
Fantastic experience: A fantastic and unique venue and so lucky to live so close by. Staff are always super friendly and it's been great to see them add new classes and special events over the years.
Fantastic experience: A wonderful restored building.
Thank you Barry
Fantastic experience: Lovely local swimming baths. Has a gym on site too. The swimming instructors we have had have been great. We have attended some fab classes for littles one too, such as little movers.
Thank you
Positive experience: Watching my grand daughter swimming lesson
Positive experience: Took my granddaughter for a swim lesson. She loved it, staff were brilliant. The only reason for the low score is that the children were shaking uncontrollably with cold during the lesson. Surely that should indicate that something should be done to warm things up. These are young children.
Hi Chris, thank you for your feedback, and so pleased your granddaughter enjoyed her lesson, and thank you for the compliment towards our team. We are working to try and rectify this, could you please advise what time the lesson was?
Negative experience: Pool needs a deep clean. Thought my goggles were dirty but they were clear, it was a filthy pool. Drain it entirely clean the bottom and start again. Small changing cubicles.
Hi there, could you please advise which session and day you attended? It is unusual for our pool to be cloudy - in addition to the usual chlorination techniques, we also have a UV filter as well, which usually ensures the water clarity? If I know when you attended, I may be able to offer an explanation as to why the pool appeared dirty? Yes the cubicles could be described as small, they are in keeping with the Edwardian character of our building. A more open changing facility is open at the end of the pool for those that prefer
Fantastic experience: I've been using the gym here for years & I love it. I wouldn't go anywhere else! The staff are friendly & welcoming. The other members are also friendly & welcoming. I always have a few conversations with people on my visits. The equipment is modern & provides everything you need in a gym. The place is very clean and requires members to clean equipment after each use. The fitness classes are fun and gives the opportunity for socialising & making new friends. I don't use the pool as I'm a rubbish swimmer but the pool is what you'd expect from a swimming baths. Loads of swimming slots for adult only swims.
Fantastic experience: What an excellent find! I'm absolutely loving Bramley Baths. The swimming tuition is spot on; the bootcamp classes are fun, diverse and at just the right level; the yoga classes are often better than those at some well-established yoga studios; the gym has everything that you need for a full-body workout; the building itself is stunning; the atmosphere is warm and welcoming; every member of staff is friendly; the massage that I had completely sorted out an issue I was having with my leg; and the prices are great. I just wish I'd found this place sooner!
Wow... what a fantastic review. Thank you so much.. as a small community led social enterprise, this is truly wonderful to read. Thank you
Positive experience: The facilities, class variety, swim sessions etc... are really good. I think there is a brilliant variety for all ages to get involved with and overall is a brilliant place - especially the soulful Saturday sessions. I have loved the classes and people I've met - its a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Due to a change in circumstances I have had to cancel my membership temporarily for a few months which proved more difficult than finding water in the Sahara desert. Through no fault of BB - Ashbourne management are near on impossible to receive a response from. I had several emails ignored, when I cancelled my direct debit I was inundated immediately with text messages an emails daily increasing the amount owed. Each email they sent was from a 'no-reply' email address. The email address I was given to cancel through never responded to any emails. The number on their website to text 'HELP' didn't work and bounced back every time. Eventually through live chat after over several weeks of ignored emails and texts I was able to speak to a human through the live chat but only once I had answers 10 questions from the robot. There is no contact number to speak to someone directly. I did originally plan to restart my membership later in the year but due to this experience it has put me off returning to BB.
Hi Hayley, Firstly thank you for your words with regard to our sessions here at the Baths and we are pleased that your experience in house has been a joyful one. Please rest assured that we will be fully investigating what has occurred with Ashbourne and will report back when we have a response from them. Would it be possible to get in touch once we have completed our investigation? Thank you for your support and we do hope this can be rectified and that you would consider returning to the Baths in the future. Take Care
Fantastic experience: Fun
Thank you so much
Fantastic experience: My son (8) has done crash courses at swimming on a number of occasions. Each time he improves so much.
Hi Andy, thank you so much for your feedback. As a community led social enterprise, it really does make a huge difference to receive a 5* review.
Fantastic experience: On the same day as the free festival at bramley Park, we got treated to the live mermaid show and a free swim for the family bedore hand..for free I may add.. there was no mermaid sadly however these lady's put their all into this performance and should be praised non the less... bravo lady's.. bravo .
Thank you so much!
Fantastic experience: A well run community swimming pool. We had a great time at the family swim session. It's quite cheap too compared to some other pools. My daughter learned to swim here a few years ago. We found the instructors very knowledgeable.
Thank you so much for your review Michael. As a small community led venue, we really appreciate it
Fantastic experience: Lovely pool friendly staff.
Hi Linda, thank you so much for giving us 5*. It really does make a difference to our community-led organisation.
Positive experience: I love this place but the last few times I've been there has been an overwhelming smell of urine in certain sections of the pool. I thought it was a one-off but two times in a row has completely put me off - I felt dirty so had to leave. Is there an issue with the pipes?
Hi Beth, thank you for your feedback. If you could advise on which sections of the pool you are referring to, and the time of the sessions you have attended, that would be really useful. We do try to keep on top of the cleanliness in and around the pool, however, we do have a high volume of children throughout the day using the facility and although it's no excuse, it can be difficult to keep up with. But if you could advise us further we may be able to concentrate our efforts accordingly. The pipes are a challenge also, shall we say, but again, we are trying to rectify this. Thank you
Fantastic experience: Great pool with a friendly atmosphere. Well equipped gym too.
Hi Andrew, thank you so much for your review and 5*!
Fantastic experience: Great place to visit. I learnt to swim here in the 1960s and now my wife goes to pilattes and the gym here. Well maintained and staffed for a local historical landmark. And now to carry on the family tradition, both my granddaughter's are learning to swim here as well. Keep it up, keep it alive.
Thank you so much for your review! We love how generations of families continue to use the Baths.
Negative experience: Went today and was surprised at how cold the pool is, lack of temperature gauge and lack of shower facilities. Maybe more regular cleaning and maintenance could be applied to remedy. Other than that was a pleasant experience.
Fantastic experience: Building is old but I had swimming lessons here for many years and every instructor I had was great. I have only been to the family fun session a few times but they were pretty good. I think my only complaint would be that whenever you go up the stairs to the viewing area, it’s REALLY warm which sometimes is a good thing but sometimes a bad thing. I have never been to it but it also has a gym and I think a sauna? Anyway the gym looked good and it’s got a nice atmosphere. The last thing I would say is that is next to a big road which makes it accessible and (fairly) easy to get to.
Fantastic experience: Great place for swimming lessons! Plenty of encouragement for your little ones. My daughter has been swimming there for just under 1 year and has made amazing progress!
Negative experience: The most disgusting, scummiest pool I’ve ever been to. Changing rooms and pool both absolutely filthy. Sort it out
Hi there, can you please advise which session you came to so we can improve our service? We do try and keep up with cleaning as much as possible, however we do have a large volume of people that use us and can be quite difficult. But if you could elaborate that would be great. You can email [email protected] if you prefer. Thank you
Fantastic experience: An absolutely gorgeous building and brilliant pool.
Positive experience: A great community venture gym and swimming baths. Dates back to Victorian times. Gym just had a 90k refurb.
Fantastic experience: Traditional pool with good selection of facilities
Negative experience: I was really disappointed in our visit yesterday, the water tasted so salty and not a smell of chlorine as you entered the building .. all i could smell was urine while in the pool to the extent it smelt like a public toilet not a public swimming pool. The whole family have this morning complained of having soar throats. So dissatisfied as it's such a beautiful building. On the plus side the staff taking payment couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful.
Hi Elaine, Thank you for your feedback – I’d like to offer an explanation for some of the issues raised in your review. Firstly, the pool tasted salty, because of the way in which we disinfect the pool. Without going into too much technical detail, we use something called a Hyproliser, which takes salt and uses a catalytic convertor to create chlorine on site, which is then directly fed into the pool. This removes to a degree the chlorine smell, reduces the risk of a chlorine leak and is a lot safer for our team and customers to be around. In addition to this we also have a UV filter that the pool water passes through. This does however mean that the pool may taste salty, but please rest assured that our pool water exceeds all the industry standards for cleanliness. We also have regular biological tests by an independent company which always come back clear. We do pride ourselves on cleanliness, which is evident from our previous reviews, so we are saddened that this was your experience today. We clean our poolside regularly, and have external contractors that deep clean our drains with specialist equipment due to the nature of our Edwardian draining system. We are always trying to improve our service, so we would appreciate it if you could advise us what session you attended and which area of the pool in particular there was an issue with the smell? We clean as regularly as possible, however, on some occasions we realise this can be improved upon – having 334 children for swimming lessons every weekday, plus additional pool users in our general swims, sometimes things do slip through the net. If you could provide details of time of use and exact location of the unpleasant aroma, we can then concentrate our efforts on this particular area around that time in the future. Please feel free to comment on this post or email [email protected]. Thank you for your comments regarding our team, it’s very much appreciated and will be passed on. Look forward to hearing from you again. Take care Team BB
Negative experience: My son went in Summer Crash course from August 30th to September 2nd 2022, at Bramley Baths, on the phone I explained to the lady the week before the course that he was in the stage 2, from one of recognise Leisure Centre, on Saturday the same week my son moved to stage 3 class, means that he doesn’t need to use armbands or float or noodles to swim. First day in Bramley Baths, the teacher gave him the noodles and he said no need, in the end of the lesson I talked to her and explained to the teacher but she told me let’s see how he going to progress to move to deep end. The second day the other teacher (man) gave again noodle to my son. Not sure as the teachers can’t see or they don’t know what they are going (that’s a shame). There were about 6 children all mixed in term of level/stage, my son was the one with more experience and two more boys, so everyone could see and some parents commented about that, but because he is black on the last day only two white kids were chosen to move to stage 3, they were not confident as my son was and in deep end you can't use noodles but they were using (my God!) this is too dangerous putting in risk those kids. And my son was classified unfairly with Dolphin 1 (very BAD classification), one of the parents in the reception was very disappointed that my son was wronged for being black, and she added that “your son was doing very well”. Those particular teachers are racists and not professional. I paid the same money that the white parents paid. Next time, put on the leaflet, that “we only need white people money” otherwise be fair with all children. On the following day my son went back to his swimming lesson in Leisure Centre and he was swimming in deep end. Remember, everything you sow you will reap it’s in the bible. Move this kind of paradigm that was created on your mind about black people; everyone going to die, don’t think that your body is eternal.
Fantastic experience: Just love coming to classes really enjoy them.very friendly people. Look forward to going.
Negative experience: Turned up to take my daughter to the kids session and says online they are open 11-1 on Sundays but they haven't updated the new timetable and have private session on instead. Now having to go to another pool!
Fantastic experience: Great staff beautiful building. Support your local baths.
Fantastic experience: Friendly place
Fantastic experience: Went for a swim recently for the first time in about four years and was really impressed – it felt clean, well-maintained and professionally run. Found both the water and air temperature to be very comfortable. I'm looking forward to returning.
Positive experience: Amazing pool, went to the ladies only swim with my auntie and little sister however the only downside is that they wouldnt let my sis in as she was 8 even though she was a confident swimmer and has learned proffessionally. i was allowed as im 13 but as i havent swam in 5 years my sister swims better than i do. other than that they did have make lifeguards but we asked if they could switch and they were really nice and polite about it and switched. lovely staff, will definitely go again.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful community enterprise, definitely worth supporting!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic facilities and great to see the last victorian bathhouse in Leeds being used so well.
Positive experience: What a lovely experience! My son had his first swimming lesson today. Lovely friendly staff! My son loved it! The building was beautiful too...

Fantastic experience: We go for childrens swimming lessons. They are reasonably priced and the swim teachers are friendly. My two love going to their swimming lessons
Fantastic experience: Great, well run pool. Really nice and helpful staff.
Fantastic experience: Love the baths; water temp is a little cool for my toddler to do a full hour; horrible booking app - should do away with it and just use eventbrite instead.
Fantastic experience: *Beautiful Edwardian swimming pool. *Really helpful staff. *Usually a degree warmer than council pools *My 5yo can stand in the shallow end.
Fantastic experience: Granddaughter is doing great learning to swim she is come on very quickly in just 2 days.she is doing a 5 day course and the staff and instructors are amazing .
Fantastic experience: As a very poor swimmer I took up adult swimming lessons they guys have been looking after me and frist time in 4 weeks I have managed a front crawl the time and encouragement and support the guys give go above and beyond they see me frustration and talk me though even when felt like given up they turned it around. I took advantage of there membership being £29 and includes swimming gym classes and I go pretty much every my girls love there swimming teacher we been going there for 2 years now so very grateful for this stunning edwardian bath that not run by the council but by dedicated people that want to help the community and has a lovely garden for sitting out and picking fruit girls especially enjoy this after swimming. Would highly recommend
Fantastic experience: First swim for the twins, had a great time
Fantastic experience: Lovely pool with friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Great family fun.
Positive experience: Bramley Baths is a well restored, character full traditional Bath house. Clean and well maintained the pool was warm and not too full. Pool side changing with lockers (£1), there is no use of products in the showers and there were no accessories (goggles etc) for sale at the time. Parking and a nice garden at the back.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant community baths love it
Fantastic experience: By far my favourite ever gym and pool. The staff, volunteers and clients are all absolutely lovely and friendly. I feel welcome and looked after, and the facilities are perfect for my needs. Plus there's so much history there. And the architecture and gardens also need to be seen. Only place I've ever thought it was worth the membership fees and I actually look forward to going.
Positive experience: A lovely old building and pool. The kids absolutely love their lessons here.... all 3 have learnt to swim at Bramley Baths. The staff are always helpful and great with the kids.
Fantastic experience: Very clean and safe. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. The pool set up is great for swimmers of different speeds and abilities. Love it!
Fantastic experience: My first time back to the gym since before lockdown, so I was really nervous. The welcome from the member of staff was amazing and she was really helpful. Equipment was all clean and tidy. Would highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic place
Fantastic experience: Brilliant little gym with a beautiful Edwardian style pool. Lots of classes to choose from and the instructors are great fun and lovely people. Great value for money. Would highly recommend. Update: Still a great gym. Love going to the classes and they are getting a load of new equipment at the end of Feb. The new equipment is brilliant.
Fantastic experience: Never too busy.....just miss the steamroom. When that's back and able I'd give six stars
Fantastic experience: Amazing pool. A must for a visit for swimming in Leeds
Fantastic experience: Dealt with swimming n c19 really well
Fantastic experience: Really nice pool, beautiful building and lots of sensible safety measures during COVID
Positive experience: Lovely little pool that is clearly well looked after and loved. We had a family swim, the pool had been divided into 4 family spaces and it was ideal for a covid safe swim.
Fantastic experience: I love these Baths the staff are so friendly and helpful, standards are high especially in these weird and wonderful times were going through, highly recommend "AAA"
Fantastic experience: Lovely place- great staff. Very covid safe.
Fantastic experience: Staff very professional and polite, I swim in the triathlon club TRIBB, great club, great coaches very welcoming.
Fantastic experience: Very well organized. Staff helpful and friendly
Fantastic experience: Excellent post lockdown measures in place
Fantastic experience: FIFTEEN She was smiling from ear to ear, as she walked towards me I saw the scalpel in her hand. Her hands were covered in blood, I looked again at the agents body, then at Jayne, and then the agent again. The agent still only had the screwdriver sticking up, no other marks on her. I just couldn't work out what or where the blood had come from.
Fantastic experience: Warm water, friendly atmosphere, good steam room. We had great time here. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get good time.
Negative experience: Dirty. Plasters in floor and poo on wall in toilet. First and last time going.
Fantastic experience: Best baths in Leeds! Great for swimming lessons too, lovely staff!
Fantastic experience: Warm water and air, good price and nice place
Positive experience: Really beautiful and historic building. It was truly an experience to swim in these gorgeous baths. The only thing I would say is the pool, whilst lovely, is really quite small so just be prepared for that. If you want a proper workout and to put in some lengths it might not be the best place.
Negative experience: Daughter has had swimming lessons here, up until recently. Instructors are good and friendly. Apart from ine, takes no intresti in the lesson, instead talks to another staff member staff stood at the side. When this was raised with management, they told us to speak to the instructor, who told us to cancel, but we won't get a refund. In the next lot of lessons, the instructor was great but, in a year of lessons, my daughter didn't progress on to her dolphin 8, again this was raised to the instructor, who said my daughter had got to dolphin 8, but her foot stuck up...I felt like this is a ploy to ensure your back, as I sat watching on the sweltering balcony every week and saw no problem, and neither did the instructor who took the lesson she had with school. All this has been raised with the baths, but was just told "thats a shame" changing rooms and toilets could do with more attention, as seem to quite dirty...I saw the same clump of hair and dirt in the same spot for 3 weeks. Other than that, the prices are reasonable, I like Bramley baths, I've always gone here, and will continue to but not for swimming lessons.
Fantastic experience: This is a magnificent Victorian swimming baths. It is an experience. Helpful staff. Good bus connections.
Fantastic experience: I well remember learning to swim 68 years ago in this classic pool. Wonderful it's still going and I'm still swimming at 73. See me at Jeff Jordan-Swim For It-YouTube
Fantastic experience: Great old small pool. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices. Would recommended.
Fantastic experience: The best swimming baths in Leeds. Clean, warm, friendly with bags of Victorian character! I take my 4 year old and she loves it because she can stand in the shallow end, and has lots of room to play. Changing cubicles are a tight squeeze but that's how they have always been.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic swimming baths and friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Excellent staff - friendly and helpful I have a monthly gym and steam room pass for less than £30 ☺
Fantastic experience: Lovely Victorian baths is the jewel of Bramley. Quite cheap but can get busy as times.
