Seamill Hydro Hotel: Opinions

Negative experience: Rooms not as luxurious as described, the carpet in the room was very dirty. Bed was very uncomfortable. Dinner in the orangery restaurant was lovely. However never got breakfast. Booked in for 9.20 only waited 5 minutes for order to be taken, but by 10.10 it had still not arrived. When we finally managed to get the attention of a waitress, the order hadn’t made it to the kitchen which was now closed. Probably wouldn’t stay again. Disappointed as not had these problem with any other RAD hotels

Positive experience: Came to Seamill today as got email about Christmas Fayres. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves today. Well organised and Christmas refreshments were perfect too. Lovely day out.

Positive experience: We bought a dinner, bed & breakfast deal. On the whole the hotel is lovely, enjoyed the pool and steam room, dinner was great. The room was small and didn't have the luxury feel they advertise. Sleep disturbed by floorboards outside. No extra touches, robes/slippers or the comp bottle of wine we enjoyed at Dunblane. Breakfast is from 7-10. We booked for 9:30, ordered shortly after then waited around 40 minutes before we checked on our order which apparently hadn't reached the kitchen. Over 1 hour wait in total, by which time everything on offer was being cleared away. Raised at reception but nothing in the way of recompense. Likely wouldn't book again.

Negative experience: I have written to you previously to address some issues I’ve experienced with the working environment at the Seamill Hydro, hoping for a response. As I have not received any reply, I am reaching out publicly in the hopes of sharing my perspective. To start, I want to emphasize my longstanding connection to the Hydro. I’ve worked here on and off over the years and formed strong bonds with my colleagues. The Seamill Hydro has also been a meaningful place for my family; I met my partner while working here, and both my father and grandmother enjoyed its amenities. Sadly, my family and I have gone through a difficult time this past year, as we lost both my grandmother and my father, whose funeral services were held at the Hydro. These experiences have only deepened my attachment to this place. I recently worked at Seamill Hydro for 1 year and 7 months, and my partner worked there for 1 year and 4 months. We were both employed when the RAD Group purchased the hotel in September 2023. On October 2, my partner was unexpectedly let go, a decision cited as due to her absences, which had been affected by our recent family losses. There was no prior disciplinary action or warning, and her employment ended abruptly. Feeling extremely disappointed with how the situation was handled, I also decided to resign on that day. My concerns include a few key points: I feel that recent changes have created a challenging environment for the staff. Since the RAD Group’s acquisition, it seems that many long-standing employees have left, and turnover appears higher than in previous years. This has led to additional stress for the remaining team members, many of whom express concern about understaffing and a lack of adequate training. I have observed that new staff, in particular, often start without the necessary health and safety training, which contributes to a challenging atmosphere for everyone. My hope in sharing this letter is to see the Hydro regain the supportive and collaborative atmosphere that once set it apart. I believe that open communication and constructive feedback are vital, and I hope this letter helps foster a positive direction for the future.

Negative experience: Booked an Arran View seaview room which we have stayed in before. The room we were given had only 90% coastal/seaview with the other 90% being the very close gable end of the building. Told hotel was full so no other option. Cancelled my booking of 3 days and refused any refund!!

Positive experience: We attended an 80s tribute party night and stayed overnight in the hotel. We were a family group of 5. The party night was well organised and the music was varied so that there was something for everyone to enjoy. The 3 course dinner was served very efficiently to a large number of tables so that the food was hot and not overcooked when it arrived. Portions were very generous. The bar also coped well with large numbers of drinks orders so that there were no long queues. The rooms are comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was a combination of continental buffet and full breakfast cooked to order. I thought the breakfast was very tasty and well prepared but sadly the restaurant service let them down. We were asked to book a time for breakfast when we checked in so the hotel would have known how busy the restaurant would be. There were too few staff on duty resulting in long waits for orders to be taken. Coffee machines running out of milk and coffee meant long queues of frustrated diners. Such a shame because the food was worth waiting for.

Fantastic experience: The hotel is perfectly situated. Problem with a very hard old mattress, but the hotel staff were brilliant. Moved us to a different room with no fuss at all. Service is excellent. Food was just perfect. It's slightly pricey on the drinks side. Nice walk on the beach. Spa and pool are all very inviting. Thank you to all the staff at the Hydro.

Fantastic experience: Came for a 2 day midweek break & we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The hotel is very nice & is in a wonderful location. We stayed in a "courtyard" room which is separate from the hotel but only by about 10/20yrds and accessible via a covered walkway. We booked dinner, bed & breakfast and it came to a total of £360 which was great value. There isn't a whole lot to do in the actual hotel but there is a Leisure suite that you have access too. The pool is very nice but not the warmest with a whirlpool which is at the same temperature. There is also a separate sauna & steam room and I believe a gym is also available The location is wonderful as it's right on the beach (not a place to sunbathe) with views to Arrange but you'll have to travel if you want to entertain yourself on your visit. Loved our stay and we would return

Fantastic experience: We stopped here for an evening meal. Hotel and all downstairs looked fab. Gluten and dairy free options were fab. Desert took along time to come and we had to chase after 40 mins. Dairy free option apple and plum crumble, topping was too thick and very dry. But all in all a nice experience.

Fantastic experience: Had a great few days away for the wife's birthday. Room (and bathroom) were massive and well appointed. Food excellent and accompanying view superb Breakfast staff were magic and a source of information (Denise you are magic but that hill up to the railway station was not "wee") Thanks to all it was memorable.

Positive experience: A very nice hotel located on the coast at Seamill. My room was nice but not sure it was worth the £148 that I paid for one night B&B. The breakfast was very nice as was the lunch I had in 'The Orangery' restaurant. The hotel is located on the beach which was lovely, a shame the weather didn't allow a morning walk on the beach. My only complaint is that I requested a wake-up call in the morning and I didn't get one. Which resulted in me running late!!

Positive experience: My room was very tired in places especially on furniture and around shower really needs some attention. Staff friendly and helpful but very slow to clean tables/glasses etc which gives an untidy look. The worst part of my visit was that I was charged twice for my booking and hotel reception refused to see their error, after sending in bank statements and dealing direct with HQ I was finally believed and refunded. I was sent an email to say this would be investigated but no reply as yet … I won’t hold my breath or visit again, took the shins of my birthday treat.

Fantastic experience: A huge thankyou to all the restaurant staff. Last week we took my sister who has mental health issues for lunch. The staff from the moment we entered the restaurant could not of been more helpful and understanding. They were exceptional at all times and incredibly patient and understanding. I work in a highly demanding public arena and I could not of been more greatful for their understanding and professional approach. The food was excellent but for me personally it was the care and attention they gave to my sister. Thankyou. Pip Cleeland Penguin Parade Vister Engagement Officer. Australia Victoria.

Negative experience: My partner booked an overnight here for my birthday and we were very excited about it. It is the most disappointing stay we have experienced. To start, we checked in and got to our room which had a lovely sea view and looked clean enough however the bed was very uncomfortable. We went to the lounge for drinks and something to eat, the food was terrible, bland and burnt. the service was slow (assume this is because there was a wedding the same day so we kind of let it go) we decided to go out and go for drinks elsewhere and when we got back to the room my partner wanted room service (since we didn’t really eat the meal earlier) he could not get through to room service or even the reception despite trying for around half an hour (24 hr room service apparently) the next morning we go for breakfast, seated straight away but took staff 20 minutes to take our order, we then wanted a soft drink that was not included in the breakfast, another 15 minute wait at the bar despite several staff walking past just ignoring my partner, even when he asked someone about being served they disappeared into the kitchen and it was another few minutes before someone acknowledged him! Breakfast finally came, plate was boiling hot but food was barely warm. Not a great meal just had a full breakfast but it was poor. I was so disappointed my partner had spent a fair bit of money for this for us and it was just a very disheartening experience. Would not recommend to anyone.

Negative experience: First Impressions were we sure picked a great hotel. Don't be fooled by the looks of the new main lobby. Once you get to your room, it all becomes a nitemare. But let's start with the food. Had the 2 best pasta dinners I can ever remember having. Congrats to the chef as both the lasagna and red sauce linguini were spectacular. Could have lived off either every night. Service in the restaurant: Terrible! They have no idea what is going on. They were lost. No further comments. We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, during the country's largest sporting event, The Open Championship, and we were shocked, this hotel did not offer even 1 TV channel to show the golf event. And the hotel is only 20 miles from Royal Troon. How could a hotel of this level not have Sky Sports Channel? Shocking. But had plenty of cartoon channels. Our room, unit 104. Time to blow up this building and start new. Bed: worst mattress I have ever slept on, or tried to sleep on. 2nd night I opened up the sofa pull out bed. Better option for sure. Better than the main bed mattress. So take my advice and sleep on the sofa pull out bed. How can a hotel like this have such terrible mattresses? No air conditioning. It was a warm few days, and it was like a sauna in our room. Left windows open all night for a breeze and still did not help. Again a hotel like this needs AC. The floors: Again, it's time to tear these courtyard buildings down. Our 2nd level room floors squeaked so loud like we were going to fall thru the second floor down into the room below us. For the people that were staying in the room below us, we are so sorry for all the noise of the squeaky floors above you, and we hope we did not upset your stay. Wish we could have had a main floor bedroom. But then we may have had to listen to the loudest squeaky floors ever above us. Wanted to keep this comment short. Again, great appearance from the minute you drive in. Awesome front lobby and the 2 restaurants looked great. Oh and the pool area was very nice also. But lacked a true hot tub. Hot tub was part of the pool at the pool temperature. Not good. Would we ever stay here again? No, we would have stayed down at the Trump Turnberry Hotel a few more days if we knew what this hotel was going to be like. Hope these comments make your owners look into some major changes for the future of your hotel.

Clinically Insane 1 year ago

Positive experience: Overall the experience was OK. The staff really need to go through retraining. If they weren't being short/cheeky, they didn't know what they were doing. 5 separate times I had to tell the same person to re-male my drink as they were content on charging me 11.90 for a double vodka and coke, and was given "clear cola". Twice he was told he couldn't serve me it, but kept doing so. BRING YOUR OWN DRINKS. WAY TOO OVERPRICED. We also received room service at a snails pace. Half an hour for 2 lemonades. The attendant providing room service was very cheeky and narrowly missed being slapped by myself. He had moaned about us keeping the noise down, despite there being a wedding on and the guests screaming and shouting until 5/6am. The only noise we had made was stepping into our room, sitting on the bed and calling room service. His body language, the dirty and tutting after the unnecessary scolding made us very uncomfortable. The rooms had not been dusted in a long while by the way my allergies had flared up/touched the lampshade and thought a cat had shed by the lump stuck to my fingers. Other than that the location was nice. Would maybe consider staying again off season, but only for a reduced price of what we paid.

Positive experience: Pros - Beautiful location, hotel, and rooms in the main hotel - Great food and drinks prices were reasonable - Bar staff were efficient and courteous - Hospitality staff were professional and nothing was an issue Cons - We were attending a wedding, some people were offered an early check in but when I asked this wasn't either available on our room or I wasn't being told the truth. No idea. - We needed to change for a wedding, all that was available was to get changed in the smallest and HOTTEST gents locker room on the planet. Needless to say I was a sweaty mess for the wedding. - Rooms were needlessy too hot. - Shower pressure in the morning was pretty awful.

Jonathan Williams 1 year ago

Negative experience: Currently enjoying the delights of room 15 at The Seamill Hydro - the operators of the hotel seem to believe their customers won’t notice the five (yes five) aircon units and the extraction system for the kitchen right outside the windows It gives the impression that the operators don’t really care about the experience that their guests might have, and possibly care more about squeezing an extra room into a location which isn’t really viable - certainly not at £200 a night Also had a couple of people in who have failed to fix the toilet seat which is loose - it’ll be fixed when a maintenance engineer is available apparently (which appears not to be when the hotel is fully booked) More than a little disappointing…

Fantastic experience: Regularly stay here, travel to the area a dozen times a year or more for work and this is always the first choice, overall a cracking hotel, recently changed hands though so time will tell whether the quality suffers or not? ‍♂️ Most rooms are very good, but a couple on the small side in the main building (esp near the lift!) Fitness suite very good for a hotel, but I like a bigger free weights area personally. More than two gets crowded. Pool a good size, but sauna and wet room fit 4 at a squeeze! Breakfast choices very good, but expect to queue up for coffee at peak times! Orangery can be expensive, but a great menu. I feel mostly you’re paying for the stunning view of the Isle of Arran, meal choices and prices in the bar still very good but easier on the wallet Visit in the warmer months to really enjoy the gardens and beach access. It really is in a fabulous spot

Positive experience: The location is beautiful and a great place for a few days away or a base to explore more of the west coast. The hotel itself is fairly nice with the reception and main areas looking great. The pool area and changing rooms are also really nice. There are only a couple of things that could be improved, firstly the beds. Our was like sleeping on a rock and both nights I didn't have a comfortable sleep (we were in room 109). The room was ok perhaps could do with a little refresh but doesn't need anything major, however the radiator could do with a dust. The food was really good with only one minor mishap where the crispy pork belly wasn't crisped, however this was rectified fairly quickly. The service is slow both in the restaurant and at breakfast with a lot of errors being noticeable, wait staff attending at wrong tables, parts of orders being missed I'm unsure if it's a newer team or some other problem that is causing the confusion. The staff are pleasant though and it is a relaxing environment when dining. Breakfast was good the first day was better than the second but was still tasty. One other thing there was a wedding taking place during our stay and it did feel like this took over the hotel a bit so other guests were kind of a second thought. Just something to be mindful of. I'm sure if it was your wedding it would have been great but for non wedding guests it felt a little restricting.

Positive experience: Beautifully fashioned upstairs dining room with stunning views over The Clyde. Spacious with some alcove type tables. The menu is varied, something for all or you can just have tea, coffee or a drink. Plenty of staff on hand but we did wait some time before one came to take our order even for a first drink. Good parking round the back of the hotel accessed from the main road. Lift available to upper floors. We would definitely return.

Positive experience: was a great one night stay! cons: the sofa beds weren’t the comfiest and was tossing and turning during the night due to the springs. room service was very expensive, men’s changing rooms are too cramped and don’t have any privacy cubicles for anyone who doesn’t feel comfortable changing in front of others. breakfasts self service didn’t have much of an option and some staff members were just standing about and eating while working. pros: good facilities, good food, shower and bath, fridge in room, close to largs

Positive experience: Lovely setting, great historical place to stay. Thought it might be a little smaller and more of a spa hotel, which it isn't. Food is really good. However, beautiful views from our sea view room and a very relaxing stay.

Fantastic experience: Excellent hotel, in a lovely location. Ideal if you want to explore the beach. The views from the restaurant are lovely too. Staff on the nights I stayed here were brilliant. I had to check out very early too, and they organised a packup to take away with me. There is outside seating, which wasnt set up while I stayed, but I can imagine the outside experience would be lovely over the warmer months. I would definitely stay here again.

Positive experience: Had a great stay here at Seamill Hydro. The pool and facilities were really good and very clean. The food in the restaurant was amazing and the service first class with everyone really friendly. The breakfast also very good with lots of choices. The only thing was a few niggles re the room. The curtain dividing the room hanging off the rail, it was a room for 4 plus and there were only 3 cups and 2 glasses. Small things really but annoying. However we all enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

Positive experience: We have been dining at the hydro for over 25 years. TBH good quality has been variable over the years but at least the menu offered serious veggie choices. The new menus are seriously unimpressive in both Aura and Orangery. Predictable and bland but with City centre prices. Not an impressive start to the new regime

Positive experience: Nestled along the picturesque West Coast of Scotland, Seamill Hydro Hotel offers a captivating blend of natural beauty and refined hospitality. From the moment you arrive, the hotel exudes elegance and charm, showcasing stunning views of the rugged coastline. The allure of Seamill Hydro extends beyond its breathtaking location; the interior of the hotel, including the luxurious spa facilities, is nothing short of magnificent. Every corner is meticulously designed, creating an atmosphere of indulgence and relaxation. Breakfast at Aura, the hotel's dining venue, is a delightful experience. Guests can choose from a sumptuous cooked breakfast or help themselves to a continental buffet spread. The attention to detail in the presentation and quality of the food is evident, ensuring a satisfying start to the day. My stay at Seamill Hydro, particularly in room number 27, was initially promising. The room exuded sophistication, with meticulous attention to detail evident in every aspect of the decor. However, despite the aesthetic appeal, my night's rest was marred by several discomforts. The bed, while visually appealing, proved to be less than ideal for a restful sleep. It consisted of two singles pushed together, with one side slightly higher than the other, resulting in an uneven surface. Both mattresses were uncomfortably firm, creating a pronounced discomfort where they met in the middle. Additionally, the bed's length fell short, causing discomfort for someone of my height (6ft). As a frequent traveller who values a comfortable bed above all else, my experience at Seamill Hydro fell short of expectations. While the hotel boasts impeccable amenities and service, the discomfort of the bed overshadowed the overall experience. Despite travelling with companions who faced similar issues with their beds, the severity of the discomfort, particularly for taller individuals, dissuades me from considering a return visit. In conclusion, while Seamill Hydro Hotel offers a picturesque setting and impeccable amenities, the lack of a comfortable sleep experience, due to the quality of the bed, diminishes its appeal and I don't think I would take another chance.

There was soup, sandwiches, sausage rolls, scones with jam and cream, tea & coffee ( and excuse the pun ) but the shortbread was to die for ...... too much ??? Anyhoo, the service at the crematorium was very well done, the Hydro lived up to its reputation (still no jokes) ..... all in all very well done

Positive experience: Pool, Sauna, Steam Room could all do with a freshen up ... Changing room to above are far to small, also need a good clean and tidy up, poor facility pool and gym users have very little room to change and, shower far too small for the amount of users, I had to return to the pool for around 20 minutes before I could get into the changing room to shower and dressed, showers are very poor no adjustment of shower heads and certainly not enough power for a proper shower after visiting gym or/and pool, I felt uncomfortable using the facility, not a good experience ... Lunch in the restaurant was excellent, spa not really the experience I was expecting!

Negative experience: Premium price for a room with a faulty shower. Stayed an overnight and didn't discover the faulty shower until morning when getting ready to check out. Informed the front desk to be told they would get it fixed. No good to me. I expected some form of recompense or an incentive to return at least, considering the price I paid. Wrote to the hotel after getting home regarding the same and didn't even receive as much as an acknowledgement. Certainly wouldn't return orrecommend.

Negative experience: Came across the dinner, bed and breakfast deal on the hotel website, as I wanted to pay before arrival I phoned the hotel to book.  Once the reservation came through they had booked the wrong deal so had to contact the hotel to have this amended.  On checking in at the hotel the receptionist argued that I hadn't paid as this isn't their policy.  Eventually this was sorted out. We stayed in the deluxe family room which is in need of redecoration, there are cracked tiles in the bathroom and the shower door was filthy. Pool area was clean and tidy but needs updated, chipped tiles in the pool but overall very nice - best part of the stay. The DB&B included a 3 course meal.  On attending the restaurant we were sat at a booth with was uncomfortable and handed a paper menu which was food stained.  There was no mention at anytime that the deal was a separate menu and not the normal menu.  The starter options were poor, for the main as much as the plate was roasting the chicken was luke warm.  We asked for the desert menu and at that time I mentioned that we were on the DB&B deal.  We orded our desserts and once finished I had to ask twice for our bill to pay.  The bill included our desserts, I highlighted again that we are on the DB&B deal.  To prove this my partner had to go and get my mobile out the room to show our reservation email.  The desserts were then taken off the bill. Breakfast wasn't great, there were no cups when we went for tea, there was no fresh fruit and the poached egg was more boiled. On checkout I wasn't given a bill but on checking my bank later in the day I had been charged for the desserts and had to contact the hotel to have this refunded. The stay was supposed to be a relaxing night away before starting chemo and it was anything but.

Fantastic experience: I went with friends on a Valentines offer. We were not disappointed. Had a lovely lunch in The Orangery helped by the banter of our waitress (I think Joanne) who was great. Spent a couple of hours enjoying the spa in the afternoon and managed a wee stroll on the beach on the morning before we left. One night definitely not enough. Will be back for longer.

Fantastic experience: It's a five star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ luxury leisure hotel and it lives up to its reputation. Today was our third visit, each visit has been a joy, however, today was exceptional and special thanks have to be extended to our hostess, Florentina, who went above & beyond to make our visit memorable ...

Fantastic experience: We only had lunch. No accommodation. However the restaurant food was excellent. Delicious Cullen Skink, salad and Mussells dishes. All at a reasonable price. The service was excellent too

Positive experience: Rooms lovely as always. Staff in the bar very slow to serve maybe work on prioritising customers over admin. Breakfast was ok not brilliant for a veggie menu said 'sausages' (plural) so was disappointed when only one arrived. Pool and spa lovely but this was ruined with a regular walking into and dominating my lane then moaning about people doing just that she was complaining to a chap next to her about people (me ) doing their "exercises" in the pool at the corner. (This was actually dead space because of the jacuzzi jutting out it does not form a lane) she glowered at me each time she saw me. Maybe if she doesn't like paying guest using the facilities she should get her own pool or arrange with management for a better time, or even not come to the pool when most people are using it after check out. I hope she reads this because she really ruined my experience, it's not good to be so angry

Negative experience: Standards are slipping! I have stayed in the hotel many times, with family weddings birthdays, leisure stays featuring. This trip was a birthday present for my wife. From the start I was not sure of the welcome! Staff at reception stating they did not know if I they could redeem my full booking! i.e.an £80 voucher for a meal? As I had booked the stay through athrd party (travel agent) with the meal voucher being purchased direct from the hotel! Matter was sorted out after a discussion? Anyway onto room. Through the "third party" I had booked a luxury room, I am afraid room 9 is not that! Small with an outlook over a roof, with no soundproofing whatever! An uncomfortable stay I am afraid with the hotel standard way down on previous visits. For now I could not recommend the Hydro, whichis sad as for me it used to be the shining light in Ayrshire

Positive experience: My partner and I stayed the night on Jan 8th 2024. The room was beautiful with lovely sea views. Service could have been better as staff were standing around in a group while one boy was serving. Spa is great apart from the changing rooms, they are far too small. Hopefully the new owners will expand this. Also towels are 1 pound which is unusual.

Positive experience: A very good hotel with comfortable rooms with spacious bathrooms. The swimming pool and fitness centre are a great advantage for patrons to use at no extra cost. The roles with a sea view are by far at an advantage as to outlook. The view across the sea to Arran is extraordinary. There is a coastal path starting just adjacent to the hotel for those who love a good exhilarating walk. The staff are friendly and keen to be of service. The good in the Orangery is excellent. I cannot vouch for the bar food as I did not eat there hut the amount of customers would indicate its pretty good. My only criticisms are the apparent lack of a bar person. It appeared to be that the waiting staff served themselves which resulted in a slower than acceptable service. The ambience in the bar is also affected by the failure to turn on the lighting above the central bar which made it seem rather cold and out if use. Despite the aforementioned I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Fantastic experience: We just had the most fantastic stay at Hydro. Such pleasant, hard working staff. Clean and immaculately presented hotel.

Negative experience: Very disappointing and uninformed reactions from some of the staff. We both have disabilities and there was little effort put in to ensure client safety. Eg we were forced to accept an unsuitable room. My husband could not find any way to access an accessible room on the online site so he booked what he thought was OK. He later phoned the hotel to try to make sure we would be able to access the room. He could not get an answer so reception said they would phone back. I answered the phone but was told there was some 14 stairs but very easy and with handrails on both sides, the only other room available was a single which would have been unsuitable. We needed to have somewhere to stay as it was a vital family visit so I reluctantly agreed and Sked if I could book a time for dinner. The woman on the phone assured me I could book a time for dinner when we arrived, not a problem I was assured. When we got to the hotel we were told we could not have a table until 8.30 at the earliest. Dinner was to be part of the deal Tom booked and because of our medications we cannot eat that late. The receptionist was bruske and kinda unpleasant and we had to wait around until it was decided we could have the deal menu in the Aura breakfast bar. The staff in there were not friendly and took a while to warm up. We had a local guest who was treated quite rudely by having the menu she picked up torn from her hand by the waitress who said that menu was for the booked deal only! It could and should have been dealt with very easily and without any aggression. Very disappointing. The worst bit for me was that the room had a shower with no grip bars. Tom was at serious risk of falling and felt very vulnerable while taking his shower. (Luckily we had taken a shower stool)

Positive experience: A lovely hotel recently changed hands hosted the hairy bikers recently and used to be a Celtic FC haunt where they would train outside in the back grass. Given a major overhaul recently and prices have shot up to reflect this. A lovely view and a gorgeous place for weddings but prices really reflect it now.

Fantastic experience: We enjoyed our five night, rainy October stay here very much. First and foremost, thanks to Kelsea on reception for going above and beyond, accommodating our fussy request about our room. She was busy with other checkins but handled our request honestly and managed our expectations well. The extra effort she put in to put us in a higher floor room was really appreciated and topped off our holiday. Thank you very much. All the staff we interacted with were friendly and professional. The breakfast every morning was generous and we left feeling stuffed and set up for the day. Good selection of cereals, fruits, pastries, yoghurts, granola. You make your own toast - go to make it as soon as you order your hot breakfast as it comes out of the kitchen very fast. Most days pour requests for alterations, substitutions to the standard cooked breakfast were accomodated. Restaurant is beautifully devorated and comfortable. Continental area can get busy at times, esp at weekend. Our only complaint was that on two days the coffee machine was broken. That was a little disappointing. It made a lovely strong latte when it was working. The only other suggestion would be to provide a small tray so that you can take, say, a yoghurt pot, bowl, spoon and a drink to your table in one go rather than having to make two+ trips. This would ease congestion and give the waitresses fewer people obstacles. Breakfast served 7-10am and you book in your 10 min arrival slot the day before at reception. We were 10mins late once and it wasn't a problem. Staff were attentive and polite and things were always spotless. We booked an Arran View room. Both rooms we had were spotless, nicely decorated and spacious. The sofa was a sofabed and so not particularly comfortable for sitting on, but fine. Would have appreciated a set of drawers, but i appreciate that most people probably do shorter stays than us. Great to have table with two chairs, sofa and dressing table. Bathroom spotless and modern, nice big separate bath. Would have liked plug sockets or usb next to the bed, that was annoying. The room was quick to heat up and got lovely and warm. We'd highly recommend getting a seaview room, and ideally one on above the ground floor. Made such a difference to have a view of the sea, beach, and to hear the sound of the ocean with the windows open. Take a set of binoculars and you can spy on the fishing boats when they get close and maybe see some fat seals doing their situps. I absolutely loved the gym for a holiday workout. Decent amount of weights machines and cardio machines. Loads of free weights and plates. It was nice and quiet when i went in on Sunday arvo, never more than 4 people in. Liked the fact that for the pool and / or gym you are given a locker key and towel free. Showers and changing rooms, seemed fine, a little narrow in places, and was wet as pool changing wasn't separate. Highlights for our stay in West Kilbride were walking on the beach which is directly off the hotel frontage (even in the p*ssing rain) and the CalMac ferry crossing from Ardrossan to Arran. This was cheap (foot passengers only) the atmosphere on the ferry was oddly lovely, and its great that as a foot passenger you can get on any time crossing (you can book the last crossing but will be able to use it on any before that). We paid about £3 to park in the Asda carpark. Just leave yourself plenty of time to walk to the terminal (say 20mins) - it's not that far but there were roadworks which blocked off the walking route which wasnt that well signposted so we had to wait to find a regular pasemger to follow. You walk across a carpark towards the train station and then it's clear to see the route. Again, all the CalMac staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed Troon, lots of charity shops :-) Largs also worth a visit though no ferry crossings from here for the rest of the year. We'd have loved another ferry crossing to do. Foodwise, defo checkout Motherland Spice in Ardrossan, Cita Tapas (4min drive away) and for cheerful chippie tea Melbourne Fry.

Fantastic experience: We had a lovely stay here, and we opted for the sea view signature suite, which we felt was well worth the money. It had a huge bathtub with a TV. We had a stunning view of the gardens and the beach. We ate in the orangery restaurant and having read a few reviews we were worried about the service, but we couldn't fault it. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. I have a dietary requirement, and before I could even mention it, they had asked us if we had any, and they ammended my meal with no fuss. The vegan jackfruit curry was absolutely delicious, one of the nicest curries I've had.. I would definitely recommend it. We used the pool during our stay, which was great, a little colder than expected, but very clean! Breakfast was great and there was lots of choice. Overall, we had a great stay and will holefully be back.

Fantastic experience: This was a gift for our 40th Wedding Anniversary and our first visit to Seamill Hydro. Our room was spacious and spotless. The toiletries were from Arran Aromatics and smelt devine. There was tea/coffee making facilities and small biscuit packs in our room which was replenished each day. We ate in the Aura restaurant on our 1st night which is more pub food. There was a good selection and the burgers were delish. On 2nd night we ate in the The Orangery and again the food was superb. The staff were helpful and friendly. We would definitely return to this hotel. First class all round.

Fantastic experience: Lovely big room overlooking the gardens and a stunning view over the water to Arran. Beautiful en suite with Arran Aromatic toiletries. Varied dinner menu with good service and an extensive buffet breakfast with hot breakfast freshly cooked and brought to your table.

Fantastic experience: Had a fabulous spa to celebrate my daughter’s 30th. Lunch in the Orangery was beautiful complimented by the fabulous sea view. The spa was worth every penny, we had a massage and facial, Pamela and her colleague were experts! We will definitely be back to do this again. Val & Amanda

Positive experience: Recently stayed here for a wedding . Stayed in one of there upgraded rooms . The room was excellant apart from looking onto a side building and a roof ,However I feel the experiance in this hotel is a little bit overrated . Being forced to give a time for breakfast for the next day was a bit rushed . The whole set up for the breakfast was shambolic and over crowed . This was not just wedding guests either . I put this down to set times for requesting people to come down to breakfast at a certain time . The service however throughout the wedding service was flawless . Top class wedding service . The breakfast staff need more training on how customer service perhaps .

Positive experience: Accommodation, Location and food perfect. However the level of service we experienced in the restaurant in the evening was appalling, from the time taken to have order taken th the lack of clearing up of used glasses and used plates just took away from the rest our stay There was just a lack of control and direction for the service staff and nobody around to discuss the situation. Dont understand why a waiter/waitress is not allocated a station and has responsibility to ensure guests she/he is responsible for have an enjoyable dining experience. Work needed!!
