JD Gyms Oldbury

Negative experience: Attended today. First cross trainer the arm was loose, second one shook as its not even on the floor. First exercise bike the touch screen didn't work and on the second one the pedal is loose and it feels like you have a disclocate knee cos it clunk's when you pedal. All the seats are split and cracked. The third bike I tried the workout level buttons don't work. There's numerous empty drinks containers lying on the floor.

Negative experience: Changing rooms closed around midnight so no access to that facility which is a bit shit if like me you are finishing work and won't be at the gym till after that so where do I change i have no idea also the toilet facilities are also closed so again where do yo go to relieve yourself? Apart from that the gym equipment is top notch but I have yet to see a staff member on nights maybe the don't exist but because of the no access to toilet or locker facilities I will have to rate it as poor and yet I'm still expected to pay full monthly prices not to use facilities

Negative experience: A fairly nice gym all things considered but they play their own music horrendously loud- makes it hard to enjoy your own entertainment while you’re there and thus takes you out the work out zone. Wish they would turn it down just a bit or host quiet hours at some point in the day. Hoping to see this resolved as other then that it’s a lovely space :/

Positive experience: Been going to the gym for a while now and overall it's really good. My only issues is that the air con doesn't ever really feel like it's on and it's a pretty busy gym so you can really feel the heat. Only other thing is that staff don't tend to stop people who dramatically slam their weights down when using equipment. Surely it's damaging the equipment but I also suffer with tinnitus which really affects it. Other than that the staff and guys who run the classes are absolutely fantastic and very friendly! Would happily give 5 stars if it wasn't for the above.

Positive experience: The gym is actually alright. It's slowly on a decline with the equipment. Few pieces are broken or just wear and tear in general. The vibe is alright depending on the time you go. The PTs are all great tbf friendly and respectful, apart from some miserable old blonde woman but it's a good environment in general. My only gripe is the air conditioning. Me with on ear headphones is always a sweat in there but overall decent.

Negative experience: You said you were working on the air conditioning…. You’re clearly not and are still choosing to turn it off after 11pm. Can you stop switching them off after 11pm? The gym is unbearable. You are making people suffer.

Fantastic experience: Might be the best gym in Birmingham. Can’t think of a gym as well equipped and definitely not at the same price. I think I counted 7 eleiko barbells and they have tonnes of plates, an amazing variety of machines and it’s a really spacious and clean facility. Other commercial gyms could learn a lot!

Negative experience: Air con broken for weeks hardly worked since they opened the place now it's hot sweaty and starting to stink! Avoid this place!

Fantastic experience: Was sceptical about joining as I’ve only been to women’s only gyms as always self aware. I’ve now stuck to going to the gym longer than I ever have thanks to the Oldbury team with their JD burn classes always pushing you and helping you. Classes and support are keeping me motivated… even Kayleigh’s Friday class

Negative experience: No idea. Went to try and take a look around as was thinking of joining. Pressed buzzer twice and no one came and then was ignored by staff loosing people out. It may be great if you can get in!

And the staff member who I dealt with Katie was a pleasure to talk to and made me feel like I fitted in. After speaking to her about training aswell I can tell she knows her stuff so I will no doubt be seeing if she is taking on any client very soon

Fantastic experience: Love JD Oldbury, I had a gym induction with Jack Woolhouse in September 2023 which gave me some confidence about getting started in the gym. Since then Kayleigh’s Body Pump classes and Gee’s yoga sessions are my favourite. Only thing I can fault is the buzz/humming from the speaker during yoga class can be annoying

Negative experience: I am deeply disturbed by the treatment I experienced at Oldbury JD Gyms on Sunday, February 11th, at approximately 6:00 PM. Upon entering the gym, seeking solace from personal challenges, I was met with hostility and intimidation by a personal trainer of South Asian/Arab descent. Despite having my hands adequately wrapped in boxing wraps, I was aggressively confronted by the trainer, who insisted I wear gloves while using the boxing bags. Despite explaining that my gloves were torn and left upstairs, I was met with dismissiveness and immediate demands for compliance, under threat of a warning to abandon my multi-gym membership and fearmongering about closing down my membership, as well as managerial involvement. The behavior exhibited by this PT was alarming, resorting to fearmongering tactics by insinuating potential disease transmission, despite my hands being securely protected and wrapped. His repeated confrontations left me feeling belittled and intimidated, as he abused his authority in an attempt to assert control over me. Furthermore, the PT claimed the manager was unavailable and uninterested in intervening, leaving the situation unresolved. This lack of concern compounded my distress, particularly as I was already grappling with severe anxiety and heartbreak. As someone who relies on boxing as a sanctuary for confidence and stress relief, this encounter shattered that refuge, leaving me feeling vulnerable and shattered. As both a resident and employee of Sandwell Council, I am dismayed by the example set by this PT, especially considering the diversity of our community and the values of compassion and empathy we should uphold. Such bullying and mistreatment have no place in a gym environment meant for personal growth and empowerment. The PT's actions not only tainted my gym experience but also worsened my emotional turmoil, leading to a breakdown afterward. I urge JD Gyms management to thoroughly investigate this incident and take decisive action to prevent such behavior from recurring. No individual should be made to feel as small and helpless as I did that day, especially in a space meant for self-improvement and healing.

Negative experience: Dirty untidy gym with broken equipment. Warming up 2 of the cross trainers I went on weren't in good condition. They need bolts of the arms tightening up other wise they slop about and bang. Weights all over the floor in both the free weights area and the training room, training room had Matt's strewn about, several plastic bottles on floor around the machines. Womens toilets every single sanitary bin was overflowing, toilet paper on the floor, changing rooms toilet paper on the floor, bottles on the floor and in the cubicles, make up smeared across the shelf Infront of the mirrors, showers plastic bottles on the floor, loads of hair on the floor and walls, plastic litter and hair nets on the shower floor. Out of 6 showers I found 1 I was willing to use. Was there for 2 hours and in this time there were staff on the floor and in the changing rooms but not doing any cleaning. A staff member came in twice while I was in the changing room and faffed with something in a locker and did nothing to clean the mess. Used quite a few JD Gyms and not experienced this level of grime. I totally understand sometimes you can have 1 or 2 customers who are just dirty however this looked like several days worth of no bins being emptied and no cleaning done.

Fantastic experience: I really love this gym. Right price and with a lot of great equipment. Whoever built the Toys R Us it has replaced though - built it strong! No phone signal gets in, so my only comment is please upgrade the WiFi. No stars removed though as I don't go there for the WiFi.

Negative experience: Shocking customer service. After 1.5 months notice to leave the gym, I have had a confirmation that my membership will be cancelled. No payment taken the following month so all seemed ok. 2 months after cancellation, all of the sudden the direct debit was reinstated and they charged me a month worth of membership. Once contacted, they blantently told me there won't refund me and I should contact my bank. Shocking customer service after being a JD member since they virtually opened.

Positive experience: Great gym with lots of kit, only the air conditioning is a joke! 09:00 and its still not on? Now i have to pay to run elsewhere.. Whats the point in having it set up but not used, the staff have no control as its operated centrally, the gym is stagnant with little airflow, runners would do best to avoid this gym as treadmills are in short supply with little air movement. What am i paying for? Everything else is great.

Fantastic experience: I've been a member of a few gyms since moving to the area and over my 20+ years of being a PT/general gym goer. This gym is hands down the best in the area! I've been a member here from day one and can't fault the gym, top equipment good layout and something for everyone's training style and fitness goal. Staff are friendly and helpful too. I'd really love to see a weight sled, just a simple one you put plates on (not the huge one with the wheels). It would be a great addition to the functional area downstairs. Pretty please

Fantastic experience: Another marvellous gym by JDs near enough by Dudley town centre, this gym is in an ideal location with plenty of parking space available! With gym equipment varying from gym to gym I have to say this is by far the best JDs gym equipment on offer at the West Midlands branches of JDs Gyms. I had my first interactions with a PT called Sam, he was a top guy and judging from my chat with him I think these PTs are well on a level! The cleanliness of the gym and the equipment was top notch, however the men’s changing rooms were a bit wet and dirty past midday the sauna was one of the best saunas in the JD gym branches be it a little smaller than the Birmingham branch. The vending machines were fully stocked and your able to pay via Apple pay or Debit card 24 hour gym but I think the changing rooms are only open till a certain time. My experience of this branch of JD gym was impeccable and some of the other branches namely Birmingham Central can learn a lot from the management and set up here!! Good job JDs and keep it going, top ranking for PWD users!!

Positive experience: Nice layout, lovely studio and great staff! Equipment is up to date, not keen on the barbell racks for deadlifts though and floor a little dirty! Let me have a free trial session however, loved it not too busy!

Positive experience: Go there almost everyday. Only problem is the skinny macho guys who ego lift at around 4pm. Don't know what they are doing and they have zero muscle
