OneGym

Negative experience: The gym increased in price so I decided to cancel the membership and try a new gym. When emailing to cancel the membership, I was forced to pay for another month as I did not let them know 30 days in advance even though this was not clearly stated to me. The gym itself is decent, but definitely not worth its price. The gym I go to now is £10 cheaper and yet far better; it is definitely not worth £32. When equipment is broken, don’t expect the equipment to be fixed quickly. My recommendation is to try somewhere else.

Fantastic experience: Been a member for about 5 months now, I have been to several different gyms but I can say non compare, I actually find the darkened interior and lighting help you focus more, the layout is fantastic, plenty of equipment and the equipment is much better calibrated that of others gyms you actually feel like you’re properly working the muscle. Parking is fine in my opinion plenty of signs to tell you to register your car. Occasionally there is a spillage or rubbish however I always see staff going around picking stuff up, dusting or hoovering also the staff are very friendly. As for being able to find plates it’s exactly the same in every gym people always move them around but the staff once again are often going around tidying the plates up.

Fantastic experience: A huge gym with all the necessary equipment and more. Dedicated spaces for different workouts and the classes are so much fun and detailed. I personally like the inferno space and Zumba classes with flashy lights.

Fantastic experience: Best gym in the country . Great equipment and amazing staff. Team there keep in spotless and work hard to create a fun professional atmosphere for safe training. I travel all over the world and use a lot of different gyns and I can't remember a gym anywhere this good or speak more highly about this place. Get down to see Holly and the team and enjoy the gym again

Fantastic experience: Modern equipment, helpful staff, and the place is clearly well taken care of... I'm quite the germophobe and felt comfortable. They also have a sauna?! Spotted it on my way out of the changing room. Would definitely recommend this gym.

Fantastic experience: Just joined a gym for the first time and so glad I chose one gym, Courteney showed me around and was really helpful with getting me started, I was very nervous not having any experience but the staff really helped me get started, Holly was also very helpful and helped me with any questions I had, would highly recommend to any new starters trying to get into the gym !

Fantastic experience: After being a member of one gym for a while, I wanted to try the Darlington gym, on arrival the staff were polite and friendly. I couldn’t fault how clean the place was, I would definitely recommend using this gym.

Negative experience: AVOID! INADEQUATE CAR PARKING ARRANGEMENTS ! I was issued a parking ticket because I was told I had failed to enter parking details (required to obtain a permit). I paid the £60 fine (down from £100 for early payment) despite my recollection that I always obtained a permit via the computer on entering the gym - I did attempt to appeal to the parking operator but they upheld the ticket as they did not have a record of me on the system. I do feel the system for obtaining a permit via a third party operator is poor as if you have an issue, you are required to deal with a third party, and not OneGym. When I contacted OneGym they said it was out of their control and despite an offer to assist with my appeal, they couldn’t cancel it or intercede to compel the operator to cancel It - it doesn’t feel like a particularly satisfactory set up where the gym has essentially ceded any control over its car parking arrangements to a third party operator. I guess this is a commercial arrangement, but it does cheapen the overall product and opens users up to hefty fines if they or the system makes a simple error. While I understand why a parking system may be appropriate in a town centre location, THIS particular arrangement is inappropriate for a gym where users are generally members who frequent the gym regularly over a period of months. The requirement to obtain a parking permit every time you go to the gym doesn’t offer the frictionless access that other centrally located gyms with parking do (e.g., Bannatyne’s). It can be prone to mistakes, computer or human error. I suggest you offer one-time (at point of member registration) car registration to all members to avoid bad reviews relating to parking. I’ve read other reviews and the gym response to critical reviews offers a master class in terrible customer relations. I would expect a more professional approach to the views of users - they may help you refine and improve your product! I’ve cancelled my membership after my experience and reading how the gym have responded to reviews on here. The gym itself is probably more 2.5/5 - it offers different brand equipment (some good, some less so), but the dark, nightclub-like vibe starts to grate after a few weeks. Fantastic experience: Was really nervous to attend but onegym made me feel really welcome and the woman showing me round (I'm sorry I can't remember her name) couldn't of been more helpful and put me at ease with the machines. Excited to get started on my fitness journey.

Negative experience: Wouldn’t recommend it now, I don’t know what the capacity cap is but they need to lower it. Gym is very busy till 8 at night coming from work. Might as well stay home because you’ll be waiting around 40 mins just for someone to get off any machines, you’ll be standing around doing nothing, maybe they should put out some chairs, at least let me sit. That isnt including the queue of other people waiting for it as well. Plus people using two machines at the same time, which is super annoying. Can’t even do a different exercise because it’s the same everywhere. Wait 3mins for a machine, stay on it for 10 mins, go to next machine and wait another 30. I understand that gyms get busy but this is ridiculous, I have been going 6 months and it has gotten packed and unless I go 10 at night or 5 am, theres no point in going now. The gym is otherwise great, good quality and very clean, it’s a shame can’t use it anymore. Good luck trying to talk to the staff, it’s like pulling teeth.

Positive experience: Go to a few of the OneGyms including bishop, Thinford and Aycliffe. This one is great too, spacious and plenty of equipment. The only thing I wish they’d change is the cross trainers, they are modern ones but they just seem to give a different movement to the older ones at the other OneGyms.

Negative experience: Disappointing I will be leaving due to a crazy parking system/set up for this Gym. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommended Joining as when I joined the Parking set up/procedure wasn't explained nor any visible signage at the point of joining for me. A £100 fine for going to the Gym is CRAZY..

Negative experience: As a gym it is ok, slightly too full around 17-19h. Another problem is the parking. I forgot ONCE to log in my car on the parking system and 1 week later got a fee for 100£. Going for the gym with pressure for the parking and knowing they are sending fees this easy (even tho I was at the gym and I have prove of that) is not worthy the risk. Better to sign up in a gym who does not sends fee for your parking so you get peace of mind, even if you forget to log in your car. Never had this problem at the JD or Bannatyne. Moreover, the secondary parking is far from the entry and has very very poor lighting, as a female a fell slightly scared to park that far and walk in the dark at night, specially on non social areas of the town.

Fantastic experience: My favourite place ! Staff are amazing. The gym is immaculate. Lots of equipment. Lighting is amazing really comfortable training.

Fantastic experience: A great place with modern equipment where you can get as involved as you like with classes etc. Only gripe is there could be more large lockers as when it's peak time they often get filled quick!

Negative experience: Please can you tell me how a 16 year old girl is allowed to sign up and walk in your building with no experience of a gym and never seen any of the equipment before and no one stops to ask her if she knows how to use the machines ..but she is just left to her own devices..I think its shocking!!

Negative experience: I use the one in Darlington and it’s got decent equipment and I first joined at the end of September and it was good experience up until January. I understand gyms are busy in January however the constant mess with equipment being left everywhere and the mess in general isn’t great. I spend a good few minutes trying to find some smaller plates to add on when I need them because they’re just all over the place or behind the bigger ones. I know staff are trying their absolute hardest to keep it tidy but members shouldn’t have to spend some of the time tidying up after other people. Not all the time but sometimes it feels unsafe with crowds of men early on a morning like I know that can’t be helped but some of them are rude and weird. Most of the staff are lovely but some of them make you feel you can’t approach them when there’s a problem like the mess or when there’s big groups of young lads hogging the machines/ saying stuff to you. I’m on 12 month membership which can’t be helped but now I’ll be looking for an alternative gym to use but will paying it because I’ve got no choice but will not be renewing it after the 12 months And of course it’s tidy…

Fantastic experience: Amazing. Gym best in North and great equipment. Top vibe everyone is a blast and helpful. Holly is a top manager Rachel is ok as well . Noobie and sauna gurl have top craic. Spotsy top notch. I should learn everyone's name one day

Negative experience: The staff have nothing better to do than monitor cctv to track people down if they leave some weights out and email you personally about it. Just wanted to update this review… after I left a 1 star review which I’m entitled to do as I am allowed an opinion the manager has took it upon herself to cancel my membership. They emailed me to say I left some weights out this morning and that they used cctv to identify me leaving the weights which I believe is possible illegal. I then replied to the email challenging them on this saying I thought it was a disgusting misuse of my personal information and an invasion of privacy. I left a one star review because of this and the manager has refused to speak to me on the phone and now cancelled my membership. I apologised and said it won’t happen again regarding leaving weights out but then decided to voice my opinion on the use of the cctv and the managers next response was to cancel my membership. Disgusting customer service and I will now make sure I go out my way to tell everyone how bad the gyms manager is and how the staff would rather spend 10-15 mins tracking you down on cctv than putting a few weights back.

Negative experience: Wouldn’t recommend using onegym , received a fine for using the car park at Darlington. despite being told by a member of staff once I logged my vehicle registration on the system which I did there won’t be any problem's despite this I have still received parking fines and the gym staff have refused to clear them. This is a scam ripping members off . Note . When I joined onegym it was on the understanding I could visit any of the onegym facilities, I originally joined one gym Thinford 2 years ago before the Darlington one had opened. I followed the procedure correctly by imputing my vehicle registration into the system and still received fines I was not made aware of a 12 month parking ticket when I joined . Poor customer service, ripping customers off . You deserve a 1 star

Fantastic experience: Great gym, great staff loads of equipment and plenty of floor space. Love the inferno room and classes are great, only criticism is the car parking and the changing rooms are small and there isnt many lockers for the size of the gym. These are minor knockbacks but love going

Positive experience: Really nice gym but changing room and sauna closes too early. They are rushing you out after 20:30. And there is not enough showers, too small changing room.

Fantastic experience: Definitely the best gym I've been too its so easy to get on the machines without waiting for ages sauna really good, cold shower around the corner, music on as well always clean definitely will be sticking with this gym, if your low on confidence this is the place for you always helping people and always answer's back check in on the app works perfectly,everytime no issue also on the app there is some workout videos if its your first time, there is a room with mirrors and you can lock the door to take photos .

Fantastic experience: I absolutely love this gym. I've been a member since it opened but didn't go until a week ago. I had this terrible thought it would be full of meat heads thinking they are solid and would be insulting towards a chubby guy but how wrong am I. Honestly if you are feel intimidated don't be. Everyone is there to get fit or keep fit. I'm going with a couple of friends but don't hold it off. Staff are lovely. You will become addicted and feel better from going.
