Fantastic experience: We visited David Lloyd Sunderland for a tour ahead of joining for a couples membership. Jacki showed us around the club and was lovely and friendly. We decided to join up later that evening and I called and spoke to Alex for further information and he too was lovely and extremely helpful and we signed up that evening. The following day we went for our first session and were greeted by lots of friendly staff. We booked PT sessions with Denver and Hal which was easy to do and they were both great! I also done a bodypump class and Blaze taster session with Danielle who was great and very helpful. All in all, we’re so happy we’ve joined such a fabulous gym where the facilities are excellent and extremely clean. The membership is definitely worth the cost and we’ll be back tomorrow to enjoy a swim and sauna! :)

Fantastic experience: My first visit to Sunderland David Lloyd was very pleasant, a little disappointed the outdoor pool wasn’t open though. Would just like to say that Fiona in the cleaning team was extremely helpful and friendly. She was doing an amazing job scrubbing the showers and even fetched me some iced water to take in the sauna

Fantastic experience: It's not a gym it's a lifestyle is the tag line and it's true. Great facilities and friendly staff.

Negative experience: Expensive for what it is, gets far too busy and children running about everywhere and using the gym. The gym facilities should be for 16+ only, kids can get exercise playing outdoors not in a gym.

Fantastic experience: Great team and service, great range of vegan food and big Thankyou to team members Alex and Claire for all their help and going the extra mile for me and my family.

Positive experience: Great place for swimming, steam room, jaccuzi. I wasn't too impressed with the kids clubs & its very hard to book classes unless you are VERY quick. Otherwise, facilities are excellent & staff are friendly & helpful.

Fantastic experience: Having trained at various gyms over the years, I can honestly say David Lloyd Sunderland stands out in every way. From the moment I arrived, Jacqui, the membership consultant, made me feel incredibly welcome. She took the time to show me around, ensuring I felt at ease and answering all my questions with genuine care. During the tour, I was pleasantly surprised to bump into a couple of friends who are already members – always a good sign! I’m especially looking forward to getting my son involved in the DL kids clubs and karate classes. It’s wonderful to find a place that caters not just to my fitness but to the whole family. Thrilled to be part of the David Lloyd community, and can’t wait to start this new chapter with them.

Fantastic experience: Wanted to leave a review to highly recommend David Lloyd. As daunting as gyms can be, the fantastic team always make you feel welcome, relaxed and completely at ease. Taking my first steps into fitness, I was shown around by the amazing sales manager Alex. Can’t commend him highly enough, for taking the time to listen and advise me when I was a complete fish out of water. Claire also was incredibly helpful and informative. The range of fitness options are very well balanced and structured, and it’s nice to have somewhere to relax afterwards too. The food in the restaurant is second to none, and as a vegan they have great choices. Thanks for making me feel at home.

Fantastic experience: I’ve recently been to David Lloyd Sunderland for some PT sessions with Bev and I couldn’t recommend her more. She is so knowledgeable about the body and understands how each exercise will help to improve your health and help you reach your fitness goals. She really tailored my plan to improve my running ability, and maintain my hip mobility whilst being accommodating to any injuries or weaknesses. I look forward to future sessions with Bev and being able to monitor my progress using what she has taught me.

Negative experience: Waste of money! Cheapest membership is time restricted and £69 a month! Facilities are basic and minimal, save yourself £59 and go to JD instead! Small pool, limited availability of equipment. It’s no wonder they hide the prices online because they try to pressure you into signing up. For the quality of the facilities, and time restrictions I’d be reluctant to pay £10 a month!

Fantastic experience: We went to a 5th birthday party here and it was fab! The staff went all out to ensure the kids had a great time - scooter games, hot food, ice cream with ALL the toppings and a disco! Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Love David Lloyd Sunderland. From the minute you walk through the door you are greeted by friendly reception staff. Always a good morning & a smile. The gym is well equipped & there are plenty classes to choose from. The indoor pool is just amazing as is the outdoor one. Changing facilities are great, always clean & plenty of hairdryers! Love the sauna in the ladies changing room! The club room is comfortable & well decorated & the food is of a good standard. If you’re thinking about joining, definitely do!

Fantastic experience: I took my daughter to a children’s birthday party at the David Lloyd’s club in Sunderland. I was blown away by the facilities and the amazing staff! All the children had an amazing time and it was credit to the excellent services on offer.

Fantastic experience: Joined as a family 6 weeks ago with 2 children aged 6 & 9, I only wish I had found this sooner, it's been fantastic. The facilities are great, well maintained, always clean, changing rooms are welcoming and its lovely to have a sauna at the end. All the staff are so friendly, from the reception team where nothing seems to be too much trouble, the children's crew (who seem to be trained in every skill you can possibly imagine and put so much energy into it!) and then the fitness team. We love Battle box Rebels with Hal to start the weekend, Graham for Blaze and Nicky for spirit and sound meditation. We are still trying to try everything and haven't managed to do so yet as there is just so much going on. As a family we haven't really stopped since we joined. For me personally it works so well that I can do some exercise with the children (The Rebels program for 8 years and over is a game changer and I cannot wait to see the next additions this month) but also, I can drop them off to different classes, have some me time and workout. The icing on the cake is the outdoor swimming pool for the summer. I would love to see a bit more on the football side for the children as every other sport is so well covered, I’m already planning to sign up the children for both swimming and tennis lessons as the programs are so well delivered. Looking forward to the summer!

Fantastic experience: Great customer service and family friendly. I joined the club after a tour and informal discussion with Ross. All available options were discussed to get the best value from the available facilities. Upon sign up each membership had 3 personal trainer vouchers. These have been fundamental in kick starting our fitness goals. Working with personal trainer Hal, has given me more gym confidence and a direction to follow. I would recommend this for anyone looking to make a positive lifestyle change, exercise and spend time with family.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic place to go, food is lovely, all the facilities are great especially the pool. My 3 grandchildren have swimming lessons and they love it. The lifeguards are spot on and especially Paul who always has a smile on his face.

Fantastic experience: My daughter had the best time in her swimming lesson!!! She had lost all confidence in learning after a scary encounter in the sea on holiday, so we decided to go back to lessons and it was the best thing we have done. Joss has made this not only a very easy experience for my daughter and helped her to become a stronger swimmer, but he is so good with all the children in that class and my daughter looks forward too his lessons every week.

Fantastic experience: My child does swimming lessons and I am very impressed by the level of care and understanding the swimming instructor Joss has. My son has found it difficult making progress however with Joss’s help he is having fun and getting better.

Fantastic experience: I recently joined David Lloyd Sunderland with my family after using a friend's guest pass and being blown away with the facilities and choice of classes. I feel like nowhere else in the area compares to this and was very impressed with the family environment. When signing up I booked a tour with Ross and he was very friendly and helpful, showing me and my family around and answering all of our questions. My children were very excited to get started and Ross was more than happy to show them what they can do in the club too. Very excited to be part of this community!

Fantastic experience: So glad I signed up, at first I thought it would be too expensive but the value in the club is amazing. Andrew made me feel so welcome on sign up. Me and my family are loving it, the family fest was amazing yesterday. Lots of events in the summer I'm looking forward to!

Fantastic experience: I was very impressed by David Lloyd facilities. It has a nice warm welcoming feeling when you walk in to the building. Andrew Davies was very professional with his tour and very knowledgeable and listened to what my goals are.

Fantastic experience: We enquired about the possibility of a family membership with the club and were invited in for a club show around with Ross. Ross was amazing, we felt he listened to our wants and needs and explained in full how the club membership could work for us being a very busy family. We have struggled to make time for any fitness activities since having our little boy and the facilities at the club means we can happily combine the two. Ross really zoned in on the family aspect of the club and made us feel we could be an active family together which is exactly what we wanted.

Fantastic experience: I’ve recently rejoined having tried other gyms and none compare to David Lloyd. It’s comfortable, inviting and the facilities are top notch. The staff are always lovely, helpful and welcoming. I started with a two week trial to see if I would still like it and couldn’t sign up for a full membership fast enough. Thanks so much to Scarlett who has been so helpful in finding the right membership for me and getting everything sorted. I couldn’t ask for more.

Fantastic experience: Not used this club before, but called in for a swim and lunch before the long drive home to South Wales. Really friendly staff on reception (Alex), and in the clubroom. Excellent facilities and really clean. Pasta was excellent too.

Me and my partner has used the club for short period of time but enjoyed every visit and really glad we joined. Such many facilities included for the family also which makes a difference.

The staff are friendly and really approachable. Particularly impressed with Scarlett, she was great when I joined and has continued to check in when she sees me in the club. Great customer service from her and makes me feel like a valued member.

Fantastic experience: David Lloyd really is a case of you get what you pay for: an excellent health centre with a great range of top-class facilities. Having trained in hardcore gyms like Ultraflex Durham, I'm very happy with the one at DL. There's a good range of machines, weights, and cardio equipment, and it's a decent size. Most importantly, the atmosphere is incredibly friendly. The pools and tennis & squash courts are fantastic, café serves fabulous food - and is accommodating to gluten-free needs - and the hot tub, steam room, and saunas are a bonus, despite being small. The staff are lovely, too. Yes, it's expensive, but I believe it's worth the price. Genuinely love the place.

Fantastic experience: First time attending a facility this far ahead of its competition. Instantly felt welcome from the front desk staff who were extremely friendly and approachable. Had every bit of equipment needed for any kind of work out and did not feel I had to wait long to use what I wanted. Best coffee in Sunderland!

Negative experience: I would like to start by saying I love the facility’s and the staff have always been very friendly to me and my family but with the ongoing increase in monthly prices it’s unfortunately pushed us out I can’t see any reason for the increase as the facilities have stayed the same and repairs in the gym are still very slow with some machines being out of action for long periods of time. But that’s to be expected in a busy gym I guess I just wish you could stop increasing your monthly charges it’s getting silly now how much you want a month

Fantastic experience: We have been coming to David Lloyd Sunderland as a family for over a year now and we absolutely love it . The staff couldn’t be more welcoming when you walk through the door, love the facilities and range of classes and even the soft play for the kids . My favourite class is blaze , special mention to the instructors Graham, Danielle, Kirsty and Claire who are amazing at what they do. My little girl has her swimming lessons there and Joss is fantastic . Definitely worth the money joining up !

Negative experience: Very disappointed long term member of 25 years. Cannot book into classes, despite being on the app when booking opens. Club is making no effort to address these issues.

Negative experience: David Lloyd changed my contract half through stating I need to give 3 month notice when cancelling. After many price increases we decided to leave. Cancelled my membership and cancelled direct debt after 2 month as we were not using facilities. They have passed details onto debt agency. Absolute disgrace!! Gym equipment ancient! JD far superior. Do not waste your money. Classes constantly fully booked. .

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a member of this club for many years, it has so much to offer and the staff are so friendly and helpful. I use the pools in the main, however, I’ve recently added BodyPump to my weekly workouts and really enjoy the classes. Graham is a great instructor - he focuses on technique, motivates and makes the class fun whilst ensuring a good workout.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of David Lloyd’s Sunderland for many years. It’s a great gym with fantastic instructors. Always have a laugh whilst working hard in Graham Smith’s class. The relaxation class he takes on a Thursday night is just amazing! Claire Smith is also a fantastic instructor who takes the time to explain the moves in body pump

Fantastic experience: David Lloyd Sunderland ticks all the boxes, it's easily the most premium experience in the area but the staff just make things even better. Always so friendly and helpful. Overall the club offers everything for us as a family and when there's space for a little 'me' time. The pool and spa features are great, the food is amazing, nice little play spaces and classes for my 3YO and then the workout classes are another level! Graham Smith brings a whole new energy to the work outs and they are so fun as well as knackering! 5 stars from me, well done David Lloyd

Fantastic experience: I've rejoined after being away from the gym for a while but from the moment you walk into the reception, you feel welcome. The staff always great you, with a friendly smile. The gym has everything you need and the changing facilities are fantastic. All the instructors for the classes and are friendly and knowledgeable even Grahame with his cheesy jokes. The PT Bev is great and has given me great advice. I'm back into loving my classes again and seeing old friends. Thanks to Julie Reynolds, who persuaded me to rejoin. Fantastic experience: Love this club. I'm here most nights afterwork for some brilliant classes... always good fun with Graham keeps the energy high and gets us through some high intensity classes. But also helps us to relax with some lovely spirit and meditation classes.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic club, great staff and classes. Patrick Howe is great, he passionately leads and manages the racquets clubs. The kids love the tennis (adults love the tennis) and all the coaches are best around, they are exceptionally professional and a different class, tennis is catered for all levels from beginners to the elite with excellent sessions and support. The best indoor facilities around with a warm social feel. I highly recommend DL Sunderland!

Fantastic experience: Great club, regularly attend the blaze classes which are great for anyone who wants to improve their fitness levels, all the staff are friendly and supportive especially Graham who always pushes you to give more in his classes. Also very impressed with the recent make over in the club especially in the changing rooms.

Fantastic experience: Great club, I’ve been there since I was a child and love seeing it grow with old and new members. All the staff are incredible and work so hard, always welcoming on reception and great in the cafe. Blaze is my new favourite class and all the instructors are fantastic! Julie works so hard and dedicated to make the fitness timetable and programming the best it can be. Kirsty is the most motivating instructor and always makes me push to my limit and Graham is just an all rounder! Such incredible energy and makes the classes much more fun.

Love getting them out and involved .my daughter absolutely loves blaze thanks to Graham making it fun every time. The food is lovely and Christine in the canteen makes sure we're safe with all my daughter's allergies. Will never stop coming here. Xx

Classes are fantastic all instructors are experienced and dedicated. Graham Smith is one of the best! Makes it fun but works you. Always leave feeling happy!!

Fantastic experience: I LOVE this club! There’s something for everyone in our family- little kids activities and sessions for my teenager. It’s always got a lovely atmosphere so many great classes- love Graham’s classes- he always brings the energy and good fun.

Fantastic experience: Been a member here for quite some time now and I genuinely couldn’t live without it, it’s supported me in so many goals before, during and after pregnancy and amazing place for my mental health, the staff are amazing and can’t do enough for you and your goals , Kirsty, Graham and Julie are amazing at what they do and I’d be lost without there support in classes and there talent in teaching them. All the members are so friendly and it’s genuinely a lovely place to be

Fantastic experience: Excellent staff and facilities. Kids Club is fantastic and the times are really convenient. The variety of classes ensure there is something for everybody and Graham is a breathe of fresh air and has really helped us reach our goals through the delivery of his sessions. Food & drink is of a high quality and reasonably priced. We have our 5 year old on the swimming classes here too and these are highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: Been a member at this club now for over 20 years and loved every moment of it. The staff are very welcoming, very helpful and friendly. The changing rooms have recently been renovated and are immaculate. Food and drink is reasonably priced and very nice. However I do think the outdoor tennis courts could do with been updated.

Fantastic experience: We have been members since June 2022. We thoroughly enjoyed the facilities. Including the gym , swimming pool , kids club and exercise classes , spa , steam, sauna and free towels. My favourite classes are tennis , Zumba and dance fitness. If you ever worry you’ve burnt too much calories, they do a good stonebaked pizza as well. Worth a try.

Fantastic experience: A very friendly club. There is a good selection of tennis classes for all standards and these classes are supported by a team of very competent tennis coaches. There is both an indoor and outdoor pool (including sauna/jacuzzi) as well as a well equipped gym and comfortable bar area to meet up with friends after your chosen workout

Positive experience: A great club with very good facilities. The tennis coaches and programme are excellent with a variety of classes. I hope that the outside tennis courts will be refurbished soon.

Additionally, the gym offers a variety of exercise classes, catering to all fitness levels and interests. From Tennis, high-intensity interval training to yoga and Pilates sessions, there is something for everyone. The class instructors are highly experienced and create a motivating environment. Big thank you to all the lovely staff who go above and beyond especially Graham and Ciaran and the list goes on Paterick, Amy , Callum, Julie ,Phill, Bara, Christine, Claire, Kay, Kirsty and anyone else I’ve missed .

Fantastic experience: Absolutely love this gym! It's super clean, has lots of great equipment which helps with motivation. The staff are friendly and really helpful, Hamzah is always a welcoming presence and happy to chat and make the experience personal! Whether you're into group classes, badminton, swimming or hitting the machines, this place is perfect for all fitness levels. Totally recommend it if you're serious about getting fit!
