Negative experience: I signed up for a trial with the York David Lloyd gym for £35 as I wanted to trial it out with my partner, however, the transaction went through and gave me a pass but then a day later a sales representative email me saying they cancelled my pass due to T&C and that I would not receive any refund! If I wasn't eligible for the offer due to T&Cs why did the gym happily take the money and refuse a refund?

Fantastic experience: Facilities are good in general and the staff is friendly. Gym equipment could be better with more variety. Sometimes I have to wait long for equipment to be empty.

Negative experience: What made me write this review is how morally bankrupt this club is. Be warned - in any difficulties from factors out of your control? Zero leniency, requesting you to pay now or they threaten (and based on other reviews, they will) send a debt collector at you. They got their sneaky T&Cs and will not hesitate to use all of it. Overall - AVOID! Save some money and avoid some misery like the experience they gave me. Facilities are basic for the money, even considering the “premium” for it being a higher end. Just disaster on every level really… UPDATE: Their reaching out is repeating the exact same things. Disgusting robots

Positive experience: Joined 6 weeks ago and impressed with the selection of courses/ activities on offer. Well equipped gym. Love the indoor and outdoor pools. Getting some good advice from a personal trainer really helps keep motivated as well.

Fantastic experience: I joined David Lloyd York about 6 weeks ago and I have taken the opportunity to try a range of different activities including padel, cyclone, yoga and Blaze. Having 3 hours of PT has really got me started and I feel fitter, and have lost weight too. Having the outdoor pool has been fantastic - one of my fave parts of the club! The staff are super friendly and very helpful. Fees are expensive - but absolutely worth it in my view!

Fantastic experience: Love this Gym. It’s got something for everyone of every age group. The tennis courts are also superb, as are the swimming pools. A great place for the family, ending off with healthy food from the Cafeteria.

Negative experience: Signed up up for a membership but cancelled within the two week trial period in July. Facilities were fine but I didn’t want to continue my membership. However, David Lloyd’s finance team are still chasing me for payments and used a third party debt collector to contact me. I also have not received my joining fee refund (£130) 3 months after I cancelled my membership. Really poor service and no response from membership team or sales team when I contact them.

Negative experience: Came to see what the experience would be like to join. Good reception experience, accommodating and professional. Came to cafe / bar area, ignored by staff who served others before me. Really brusque experience. While in the 'club room' burgers arrived without side orders if they arrived with customers having to follow up at counter.

Fantastic experience: I am a member in Fulham and I have been in York for a week now visiting some friends and I thought I would visit the club to see what its like. I was very impressed with the tidiness of the club and most notably how friendly the staff were. Thank you to Kian especially who took the time to quickly show me around the club when I had no idea where I was going - gave me a very warm welcome !

Positive experience: The gym could be brighter, but that's just personal preference. Reception staff were nice, welcoming, and polite. The food was nice but I would be eating in the cafe again, it was too expensive for what you got. Lady got my order wrong even after I repeated my order, I had a portion of fries missing and had eaten my other food whilst I was waiting for them. The coffee's I ordered were poured, but we were not told they were on the counter, so we were left to get colder. The gym is woth a visit but not staffed, can't say the same about the cafe.

Fantastic experience: I would like to offer praise to the wonderful Katie Clement that works here at the gym. Katie is always so pleasant, helpful and always has a big smile on her face. Nothing is ever too much of an ask for Katie, she is a credit to the DL team.

Fantastic experience: Recently got given a week’s trial at David Lloyd, York. I am already a member of a small gym, but it’s often very busy, so despite DL being a half hour drive away I decided to trial it. I had heard talk of it being expensive, and I suppose it is, but after the trial I really think it is worth it. The gym is so well stocked with equipment, including a huge range of machines, loads of cardio options, a decent amount of benches for dumbbell work, and loads of cable machines. It was a really great change from my frustrations at my local gym. The club in itself is really busy with a good atmosphere. The swimming pools are also a really big drawer. I’ve not swam in years, but followed up all but one gym session with a 1000m swim. On sunny days this was in the outdoor pool which was really nice. The changing rooms are nice and clean, with plenty of room. I didn’t try to cafe or the racket sports. I really enjoyed me week and I would definitely recommend it. It is a superbly well equipped club.

Fantastic experience: I picked up playing paddle at DL York a couple of months ago and I am loving it. Great outdoor exercise, and very social too. The social sessions are fantastic, I met so many new people and even made a couple of friends.

Asked the lifeguard, Caroline, a question and she provided an in depth explanation that answered my question perfectly. She also paid so much attention to the kids swimming with their families. Big shout out to you Caroline!!

Fantastic experience: Went to the pool here recently just to go for a swim for the first time in ages. Good experience, nice facilities, and very professional employees. Was greeted nicely by one of the lifeguards (Caroline) who helped me find my way around, and explained a bit more official things such as rules and opening times. Really good experience overall, very happy.

Fantastic experience: I have had very nice trips to the club recently. Really looking forward to using the pool over summer. I’ve been very impressed with the lifeguard Caroline and I see her making sure everyone is sticking to the rules and you can see she’s being very observant.

Negative experience: My daughter and I initially tried the two weeks for £20 trial and really enjoyed it incl the attention we received through daily phone calls from staff members who wanted to know how we were doing... Well, we signed up and since then I feel it has gone downhill. Classes have been dropped and not being replaced yet. It is also very difficult to book an available class regularly as it is always filled within 3min of booking release. But what really made me write this review is how badly my daughter has been treated over the last two months in regards to her membership. She had been totally mislead when signing up and is still trying to resolve the issue. This also has an effect on my membership as I signed up for rackets sport too, something my daughter and I wanted to enjoy doing together. As this has now been stripped of her original membership I am paying for something I can't actually use. I really believe DL's customer service must improve immensely. It does feel very much like once you've signed the dotted line, nobody cares anymore.

Positive experience: Lovely inclusive gym with friendly gym members, the reception team, coaches, FoH and the cleaning team. The gym has been great for fitness and socialisation especially through the socials. A couple of improvements would be the temperature on the courts e.g pickleball/ badminton courts seem to be super hot Also the gym has a 3 strike rule on not showing up for a booked session- which is fair enough if it’s only yourself you hold accountable- however if someone you’ve booked a court with doesn't show up, the person who booked the court and shows up gets a strike- this seems like a backwards system, surely the person who is a no show gets a strike. Something to change and update for sure!

Fantastic experience: Young fella called jack who was manning the pool, does a good job of making sure everything is looking neat and tidy, something that other places don’t take much pride in. Made our family feel very welcome

Brilliant PTs including Nigel who worked with me to improve my strength and overall fitness! Shout out to the maintenance man who works tirelessly to keep the building in good shape!

Fantastic experience: DL York just gets better. They now have 2 padel courts and the social community is brilliant and very inclusive. Never short of a padel social to book on and there are always members asking for others to play with on the community WhatsApp group. Plus there’s lots of other classes, gym, swimming, tennis etc!

Negative experience: The heat in the gym today was extreme. No air con upstairs. A PT was giving what appeared to be a group session to some vulnerable members. It’s completely out of order to not provide a basic and pleasant (not to mention safe!) environment when it’s this hot. £127 a month - not worth a third of it. EDIT - really?? I went back today and it was just as unbearable. Didn’t see or feel the benefit of any ‘measures’.

Negative experience: EDIT: after writing this review, someone from the comms Team immediately got in contact with me asking how she could help. I explained my situation to her and she now has since ignored my emails. I have tried contacting both the membership support lead and the general manager at the club, neither have gotten back in touch. I have been told by reception multiple times that someone will call me urgently and on no occasion have I actually received a call. Appalling way to treat customers . Really poor customer service at this club. I have been incorrectly charged for my membership two months in a row and I am currently being ignored by the sales manager who was apparently dealing with my situation. Throughout this I have received no form of apology and was simply told I should have said the terms and conditions properly. When asked which part of the t&cs are relevant to my situation, the sales manager could not provide any evidence.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member here for many years, enjoying all the facilities on offer. The new padel courts are a brilliant addition and there is a lovely friendly padel community and lots of people to play with.

Positive experience: David Lloyd is one of the few gyms in York that has a gym, pool, AND racket sports. It is also one of the few clubs that has a variety of activities and amenities for children and families. It may be on the expensive side, but it is definitely worth the price. The staff are very friendly. The facilities are pretty good - my only criticism would be that sometimes cleaning and maintenance seems to fall short of the price point. But never to the point of it not being worth using the facilities.

Fantastic experience: Hi I'm Sandra and I joined York David Lloyd's today after trying the club on a 2 week special deal. I paid upfront for a year because I've been very impressed with the facilities and the service - and I've been almost every day to the gym and pool and tried out the jacuzzi and steam room a few times as well so plenty of time to get a feel for the club. The gym is first rate and both pools a good size. The York team are welcoming, helpful, knowledgeable and pleasant. I read some less than positive reviews about other DL Clubs whilst doing my research but I'm pleased to say that none of what I read matched my experience - it certainly doesn't apply to York at all! Lisa and Holly, two members of the Sales Team, took time to listen to my questions on 2 separate occasions and explained clearly the terms and conditions - all fair and reasonable (and of course we should read the T&Cs before joining :-) ). As a retired woman in her 60s I'm excited about shedding some fat, preventing bone decay and getting back to better health!

Fantastic experience: I've just become a fully signed up member after a great experience during a 2 week trial period. I love the flexibility of being able to work at the gym whilst nipping up for a class during a lunch break, and the Blaze and spin classes in particularly have been really fun; the equipment is a definite step up from other gyms that I've been to recently. Thanks to Lisa for all her help in answering my questions and for arranging an intro session for my husband and children - they enjoyed it so much that my husband has joined up too!

Fantastic experience: I have been a member for around 8 years and I and my children spend more time in David Lloyds than home. Love tennis , always find people to play tennis , so many different level of players also they have world class coaches, my favorite coach is Freedy very knowledgeable and great with kids , thanks to him my children and myself play pretty good tennis.

Positive experience: Reception team always friendly. Gym and car park are sometimes super busy making it difficult to follow a programme or to park. Classes and tennis courts are always popular - have to remember to book as soon as bookings open.

Positive experience: We have joined as a family this year and so far we have been very happy. The staff are friendly and helpful and the facilities are first class. The pools are very speacial and the gym clean and well equipped. One star less due to the fact that people appear to secure a locker with their padlocks even when they are not there and it's hard to find empty ones even when the club is quiet, also the popular classes fill up really quickly and we've yet to be able to book one that we wanted.

Negative experience: Broken/run down facilities. Too many unsupervised under 16s in the gym. Spa facilities are lacking and you can not book a court unless you are 4 weeks ahead! Air conditioning doesnt seem to be working. Tried to contact them via the app and they don't reply. Definitely not worth the price tag.

Fantastic experience: Popped into David Lloyd York recently. Not my usual club, but I was in the area and stopped in for a coffee. Georgina in the clubroom was very friendly & her coffee was brilliant!

Fantastic experience: Had a day pass and Lisa showed me around, she was very knowledgeable and helpful. The club was very relaxing and spending a day there was perfect. The new padel courts were great fun. The gym is well equipped and the blaze studio is awesome. Loads to do all under one roof! The outdoor pool and hot-tub were a bonus Cant recommend anywhere better to relax and unwind.

Positive experience: In comparison to other David Lloyd’s, it’s outdated. Needs a revamp and more attention by the company.

Fantastic experience: Paul was fabulous and explained everything in great detail. Purely informative and not pushy and encouraged engagement with the PT sessions early on in the membership. Gave us plenty of time to decide on what worked best for us. Would recommend to anyone thinking of joining the club!

Fantastic experience: I travel from the other side of town to use this gym because it’s head and shoulder above anything closer to me. Indoor tennis, The staff are extremely friendly, and so are the majority of fellow members. Having moved to York, it helped me integrate into a community. The conference centre and adult only area in the cafe are particular highlights for me as I tend to be able to work remotely. The option to work comfortable means I get a good work/life balance!

Also the indoor and outdoor pool was really warm. Food in the restaurant was great and lots of healthy options and choices for children. Fantastic experience: Been here today as part of a team training session using the Business Hub - started off the day with a game of Padel (never played it before but guided by a knowledgable Lisa) and it was great fun - for those who haven't tried it , imagine Tennis crossed with Squash! Kas the GM arranged tea and coffee and breakfast for after - and a delicious lunch. Really appreciated the extra effort put in for us. Top class service. Would love to have stayed to try out the rest of the facilities as it all looked very maintained. Looked like they had a good mix of members as well (from looking round the club room) so clearly have something for everyone.

Negative experience: Lawful and dignified single-sex changing rooms are important to our family (our daughters are 12 and 14), for this reason we now use Bannatyne. Honesty is the best policy.

Fantastic experience: Visted the club this morning i was greated by lewis he was happy to answer all of my questions ive never attended group exercise before, i must say how spotless the place was, the class was tough but thats just what i needed, and to top it off i managed to get breakfast so i could eat on my way to work, thank you so much guys will be back tomorrow

Fantastic experience: I visited the club just after Christmas on a day pass. I was very impressed to see that they had facilities for playing padel, probably the first in York to have these courts. The gym was really good, it had basically everything you could possibly imagine. I didn't use the pool but that looked really nice too. All the staff seemed quite nice and the lady who assisted me and showed me around the gym, Lisa, was very helpful and knowledgeable.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member for over a year now and was so glad that they decided to keep the outdoor pool open this year. As a keen open water swimmer I had a lovely cool swim outside in the rain! Followed this with a jacuzzi to warm up in style (something you don't get swimming in lakes) and then of course a sauna and steam with cold shower in-between. Left the pool feeling alive so treated myself to lunch and a beverage in the clubroom. I got talking to a very helpful member of staff Danny who happened to be the duty manager and had a conversation about my recent gluten intolerance and what would be suitable on the menu. Many thanks Danny I have had no problems yet! I would definitely recommend David Lloyd above the other gyms I have tried in York.
