The Mere Golf Resort & Spa: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Came for an afternoon round of golf and was really impressed. The course was in good condition, no mats off the fairways (lift, clean and place everywhere) and the greens were fast and true. There is lots of refurb work taking place at the moment so the course is laid out differently but really enjoyed the round. Food afterwards was lovely and the staff super friendly.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing. Me and my husband got a voucher off Groupon and had a 55 minute massage each, afternoon tea and the day in the spa. Courtney did my massage, half back and shoulders and half facial. Absolutely unbelievable! My husband had a full body massage off Carly who was also amazing! Food was delicious and the amenities were great.
Fantastic experience: Booked an afternoon tea with Prosecco for my mum's 80th birthday. We were seated almost immediately, in a beautiful warm room over looking the gardens and front entrance. Staff very attentive and offered refills of tea, coffee. I was very pleased that I had the choice of plant based milk. The afternoon tea consisted of finger sandwiches (I requested vegetarian) and scones with jam and clotted cream, and a selection of small cakes(lemon drizzle/cherry&almond slices) it was a very pleasant afternoon and would definitely do it again
Fantastic experience: The Spa Customer service team are very polite and helpful, Thankyou Bethan for your quick and efficient responses, much appreciated
Fantastic experience: Beautiful golf course and location. Extremely friendly staff
Negative experience: I visited for a spa day with a couple of friends for a birthday treat for one of them. The reception staff were lovely, afternoon tea and staff in restaurant lovely. The spa area very basic. One sauna smelt really bad, another wasn’t on at all and the salt room didn’t appear to be doing anything, there looked like a place where a bowl of something should be but wasn’t. This meant there was 1 small sauna and steam room for everyone. I had either a facial or full body massage with the package. Once in the treatment room I selected the massage, the therapist didn’t seem very happy about it when I selected the massage and said it will just be a very light relaxing massage not a firm one. Then once on the bed I had my arms bent up at the sides of my head and the therapist said very sternly arms by your sides. I was really uncomfortable but didn’t feel like I could say. Her tummy was also completely resting on the back of my head during the treatment which made it even more uncomfortable. It was very clear she did not want to do the massage. It was extremely light and was very obvious that she couldn’t be bothered. I talked all the way through to pass the time and feeling of awkwardness. It most definitely was not an hour but I didn’t mind. She asked at one point if I get regular massages and I replied I own a salon so try to but not as often as I should. She commented that someone saying they were a therapist used to make her feel on edge but not any more. I wasn’t trying to make someone feel on edge I was just answering the question. The mere are getting lots of work done and I feel they are not keeping on top of the current facilities while this is being completed.
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely spa day.The staff were lovely and afternoon tea was gorgeous the massage had from Emily was amazing she has magic hands...a really chilled day.
Fantastic experience: We booked a spa day with afternoon tea for a treat for six of us before my sister wedding! What a lovely day. The spa was immaculate, the team very friendly, helpful and professional. The pool area had plenty of space and different areas to use. We were also able to relax outside in the sunshine. We each had a 55 minute treatment which was heavenly. We were never rushed or neglected. I would highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: The hotel is shut at the moment as it is having a total renovation and huge extensions ,no expense spared. The golf course was in fantastic condition and we all enjoyed the layout . Would definitely recommend at this time of year
Fantastic experience: Thoroughly enjoyed our girlie's event. We all loved our full body massage and chilling in the health spa. Afternoon tea was lovely and catered for my vegan lifestyle. I probably would have appreciated some fresh fruit. A definite booking once the hotel facilities have been completely renovated. One recommendation ripped, damaged towels, and robes do not reflect the quality standards of the spa.
Fantastic experience: We didn't stay just a spa day. The treatments were fantastic and well organised. All of the staff were lovely. The facilities are clean and the swimming pool and jacuzzi were fantastic. The sauna, steam rooms, ect were all fab! We had the sparkling afternoon tea which was lovely and included a hot drink, I thought this was a little bit small but each item was delicious
Positive experience: Really nice vegan afternoon tea. Loved the sauna and steam in the changing rooms. Code lockers. Lots of towels and robes available for day spa guests. Sadly stains on robe. Pretty clean. Could do with some deep cleaning/tlc of mould in tiles and caulking. 5 rooms and a big hot tub with different types of jets and a pool and heated loungers. Too many kids for a spa day though. Full body massage was nice and firm - could do with a few fancy add-ons like scents.
Positive experience: Booked a spa day. Massage was lovely as was the therapist. The therapist tells you keep hydrated but no one tells you where to access drinks throughout the day. The front of house chap insisted any drinks had to be paid for at the end (excluding water) Previous spa’s I’ve been to usually provide complimentary drinks throughout including latté’s. There is also nowhere to fully relax. You only get put in the relaxation room (only 4 beds) after your treatment but then after that (when more people come through post treatments) there is only the pool area, bar area & steam rooms. I did not find the spa very peaceful & even with signs on the wall saying ‘quiet area’, a bunch of women were chatting at the top of their voices waiting for treatments, which I could hear down the corridor from the relaxation room. I get people will talk amongst themselves whilst on a spa day, but they were really loud/shouting in a ‘quiet area’. The jacuzzi is attached to the pool & it went off for a long period of time, which meant just sitting in luke warm water! Afternoon tea was lovely & staff on the bar helpful & friendly. Overall, I’m not sure I would go back for a full spa day for the £100+ that they charge. I left early sadly. Treatment & afternoon tea- Great. Relaxation facilities- Not so great!
Negative experience: Would not recommend. The staff is unprofessional and untrained. The massage therapist I had however was a gem, she was kind and did her best even though the communication was inefficient from the front. She did however end my 80 min treatment 15 min early. When we alerted the front of this, the front desk insisted that we still pay for the full service while their manager did their investigation. We were suppose to receive a phone call from management the next day, and no one called. I would also recommend they refresh their spa protocol, the spa staff all seemed very rushed and over worked & some not licensed to do what services they’re offering. For $260usd, for a 65 min treatment & rundown facility, I would not recommend.
Positive experience: We used the spa facilities, and not the hotel. Afternoon tea and treatments were lovely. Changing room clean and ample room. However the dressing gown i had holes in it! Which I mentioned to a cleaner to get rid of it as let's the whole side down. My partner gown was fine. Think the spa generally needs to expand to offer more for the price. Staff were welcoming, and helpful. Our treatments were amazing, Emily and Alicia were fabulous.
Fantastic experience: Great golf course , in superb condition the front 9 is something else , some really beautiful holes there.
Fantastic experience: Went for a spa day brilliant really great day staff service second to none.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff at reception greeted us on arrival and walked us around the spa facilities. There was plenty of space place not crowded. Fabulous spa day, which included 55min massage. I split mine for back and shoulder, then facial it was amazing. Yoy then get to relax in their relaxation room. The offer also came with prosecco and afternoon tea. Very nice. For me, too many cakes would have liked a couple more sandwiches instead. That's just preference. Will definitely go again.
Positive experience: Went for a spa day. The treatments and the afternoon tea were divine. Very good quality. However, when I arrived in the morning there were multiple children playing in the pool followed by an hour long aqua aerobics class that consisted of the entire pool being out of use and songs like the Macarena being blasted at full volume while the instructor shouted encouragement at the participants. This was so loud that I could hear it through my noise cancelling headphones and even in the sauna/steam rooms. Had I known this was on at this time I would have just arrived at the spa an hour later as this is not the vibe I want from a spa day. I also noticed that quiet zones within the spa were not respected - staff banged doors within the spa/dragged things outside my treatment room and guests had loud conversations (even in the relaxation room they take you to post treatment) and the noises from the cafe next door are readily heard also. Other than that I had a great time and would return but I’d check the times of the kids pool hours/any aqua aerobics classes before booking. There is a mostly health club vibe here rather than it being an actual dedicated spa but it is a lovely space
Fantastic experience: As one of a 22-man touring golf group, I had the absolute pleasure of being served by quite probably the best hospitality team that I have ever experienced. As a retail leader, I would love to have any, or all the fabulous three in my team, they were definitely an asset to The Mere, not only delivering a memorable experience for every one of our group, but at the same time, maximising revenue for their employers. Bravo to Pam, Sue and Kirsty, you are five-star superstars!
Fantastic experience: I recently went on a spa day at the mere and it was lovely. I had a treatment by Evie which was absolutely lovely and so relaxing. I used the pool and other facilities like the sauna's and the heated spa beds. I just wanted to mention Rose on the front desk too, who was very helpful during my visit. She showed me around and really helped me with some of my queries. I have stayed at the hotel previously and it was so good, but i didn't stay overnight this time around, it was just a day visit to the spa this time around and afternoon tea. It looks like they are having a big refurb in the hotel at the moment too. I'm looking forward to seeing this when it's all finished. This is a wonderful place to visit.
Fantastic experience: Booked a spa day from Groupon and it was perfect. Full day use of the pool and sauna which is usually limited in other places. An amazing full body massage from Amanda that I highly recommend and an afternoon tea (being lactose intolerant was no issue for them) and the staff were wonderfully polite and helpful. 10/10 recommend.
Fantastic experience: Superb spa day, James on spa reception was extremely welcoming, afternoon tea was superb. The sandwiches were so fresh and scones always made really well, not heavy and stodgy. The cakes were gorgeous. The guy on duty at cafe was really welcoming too. Emily gave a fantastic relaxing treatment. All your staff are a credit to you company and the hospitality business. Can’t wait to go again. Left it too long after Covid.
Fantastic experience: We had a great day out. Me and one of my friend went on for a full day out with afternoon tea and a package of 55 minute treatment. We lived our massages and facials. The products used were of good quality and our skins tolerated them well. They have a pool and jacuzzi, the areas can get a bit warm when you are not swimming. They have a small tea room, and our afternoon tea was delicious- and it was so that we had to do take away. They have a huge area dedicated to golf- can’t wait to try that out. Thanks for a great day.
Positive experience: Visited The Mere with our golf society mid March. The weather on the day was thankfully mostly dry the course was in reasonable condition for the time of year. A couple of winter greens and shortened holes which was okay. Sadly there was 4 holes closed which we weren't told about untill we arrived which was a bit naughty. We were allowed to play 4 more holes again but it wasn't the same. The bacon barms and brew were really nice on arrival and the guys in the golf shop and bar staff were all really friendly and accommodating. Would love to return when the weather improves if it ever does fingers crossed.
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely spa day fabulous friendly staff from beginning to end. Loved the massage from Janina and facial from Emily .
Negative experience: Becoming really poor in there now. The workers come over and take up the gym from 6:30pm onwards. They take up all the equipment and just stand around chatting with no etiquette. The females actually take the floor space and took our workstation and Matt’s without asking. We pay a fortune to be members and it’s turning into Knutsford Leisure Centre. Obviously lacking management.
Positive experience: The main building/hotel is under renovation. There was a temporary marquee where the bar/restaurant and golf shop was. The people were very friendly and the place has a great atmosphere.
Fantastic experience: Had such a lovely spa day here, with the Autumn Forest Therapy Package. Facilities were lovely, service was welcoming and helpful. The forest therapy massage is a must have, one of the best massages I’ve ever had. Afternoon could be better in regards to quality but with the package value, I didn’t mind!
Fantastic experience: We (7 friends) had a fabulous day here on a spa break. We were welcomed by James and Chris on reception, who couldn't have been more accommodating. We chose which treatments we were having and went to the pool area to wait our times. We had brilliant treatments, performed by knowledgeable beauticians. Well worth it. We then had a delicious afternoon tea, followed by further relaxing by the pool and rooms (steam, sauna, caldarium etc) before leaving. We had a great day and have planned to return next year. All the staff were very helpful and pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: The place is beautiful! The rooms are comfortable and clean. The spa area is great, very large and with several options for different 'therapies' such as sauna, steam room, salt sauna etc etc. The breakfast was delicious but the food we had for dinner was a bit disappointing, not very good…
Fantastic experience: We was at a work celebration night last with AFG what a magical and beautiful night we had I really loved my evening Bella who was on the bar who was serving me all night was absolutely amazing such a wonderful person so friendly and welcoming hopefully she gets to see this
Fantastic experience: We ha e our annual Women Empowerment Brunch here and the atmosphere is very uplifting complimented by great service delicious cuisine and amazing ambience. One of the best Venues around in a great location
Fantastic experience: Returning after a few years of not having visited, it’s a lovely hotel that we will return to again. Delicious food and drinks in the Club Lounge, only surpassed by the excellent service from Sue which was first class throughout the evening.
Fantastic experience: Staff are friendly and quick to refill anything you need. Nice settings and your able to walk the grounds after.
Positive experience: Unfortunately the golf course did not come up to expectations. Greens are first class but the rest? Hotel was lovely, rooms great.
Positive experience: Got a Groupon voucher and it was excellent value for money. All staff really friendly and welcoming especially the ladies who performed our treatments in the spa. Afternoon tea was gorgeous, lovely fresh sandwiches and a variety of cakes. Only thing I would say is the spa itself is starting to look a bit rundown and could do with a refurb. Wouldn’t hesitate to return though!
Fantastic experience: Average rooms, clean and comfortable. Nice reception also Breakfast outstanding in quality, good fresh buffet selection. Opted for chefs gourmet menu, fresh eggs Benedict was delicious Service with Pam and Sydney outstanding
Fantastic experience: I was a little worried about coming here as it looks so posh and upmarket, and I am not at all! However the staff were absolutely wonderful to our entire group, they were so lovely and helpful and just a total highlight of our trip. Everyone we encountered was pleasant and polite, and we had Pam, Andrea and Will assisting our group - I cannot emphasise how brilliant the three of them were. From finding us some emergency drawing pins to joining in our mad dancing, taking photos and whatever else we asked, they went above and beyond. Whatever awards Mere offer to staff, the three of them deserve the highest! The resort is not local to me, but I would absolutely travel back to stay here. It’s beautifully decorated, food was lovely, rooms luxurious and clean. Top tier stay.
Fantastic experience: We stayed for afternoon tea/dinner/breakfast for a hen party. Lovely hotel, lovely food and lovely drinks, but it’s the top notch staff that really make it. We held a murder mystery at dinner as well as other games and surprises for the party, and all of the staff bent over backwards to help everything run smoothly. A massive shout out to Pam, Andrea and Will, they’re all such a huge credit to their team. And Will, we’re sorry we scared you half to death when the bride suddenly “died” half way through the murder mystery!
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely stay at the Mere hotel, hotel room was lovely, spacious and a nice touch of luxury. Breakfast was superb. Wedding I attended was well organised.
Fantastic experience: Amazing venue, excellent for afternoon tea, great place for meetings. Good selection on the menu, brilliant service too - Rehan at breakfast; Becky, Issy, Liv, Eisha & George afternoon/evening - all did a fantastic job, thank you.
Negative experience: Be careful when booking the hotel stay as doesn't include spa stay which is another £15 per adult per day which is ridiculous considering the amount you pay just for the room. Wowcher deal doesn't state spa is extra either so the hotel easily make more money off customers who are unaware.
Fantastic experience: We had a Spa day with afternoon tea. The staff are so attentive and helpful. Great environment and gateaux services. Tea was nice. We would definitely go again.
Fantastic experience: Couldn’t recommend this place enough!! The staff at reception were very welcoming and kind. We were giving the most beautiful room to stay in which was very comfortable and luxurious. They decorated the room for my anniversary which was stunning and lovely of them to do! The food quality was also impeccable. Lastly the spa and the treatments were very relaxing and clean! Thank you so much for making my stay so special! Will definitely be returning here
Fantastic experience: Had a spa day with afternoon tea today. Really enjoyed the facilities, lots of space, excellent treatments, lovely tea and best of all, really kind, happy and helpful staff. Will definitely return.
Positive experience: Nice location room was ok service was shambles half getting severed half not, having to keep asking for things. It was a asian wedding so don't know if staff was their own or outsourced.
Fantastic experience: It was a surprise for my 60th birthday. I absolutely loved it. The afternoon tea was fabulous. The evening meal was excellent, and I had breakfast with all the choices. It just finished off my stay perfectly, and the rooms were lovely. I felt very spoilt and would definitely stay again. Thank you to the wonderful staff.
Fantastic experience: We recently stayed in one of the suites at The Mere and the whole experience was excellent. The room was big enough for 3 of us to do some business planning whilst looking out on to The Mere and the golf course from our balcony. It was very hot but we had a fully air conditioned room which made the stay comfortable. We also had afternoon tea which was very good. The surroundings are very peaceful and relaxing. The staff were also attentive and friendly. I will be returning for a a more leisurely break in the future.
Positive experience: Very nice hotel; beautiful rooms, great food. Best aspect was definitely the staff, very well trained to ensure every guest feels well taken care of. Worst aspect, alcohol was way too expensive.
Fantastic experience: We stayed for our wedding and it was one of the best decisions we made. The hotel is gorgeous both inside and the grounds outside. The facilities are amazing too (espeically the spa and the restaurants) but the best part was the staff. They were all wonderful. Kind, enthusiastic, really interested, chatty, helpful, energetic, understanding and just all round amazing. I can't single out one member of staff because they were all perfect! Small things like a congratulations wedding gift waiting in our suite once we got back after our wedding, a bottle of champagne signed by all the staff which makes an absolutely amazing wedding momento for us - every member of staff made us feel so special and it wasn't forced or fake - they genuinley cared that we had a special time. Everyone should come and visit the Mere. We'll be back soon!
Fantastic experience: We’ve just got home from a magical stay at The Mere. We found a deal on Wowcher (first time using Wowcher) and stayed for one night. From the moment we arrived at The Mere we were blown away by just how beautiful this resort is. Located in the breathtaking cheshire countryside and next to a lake, with the sun shining it is really a special place. It reminded me of resorts I have stayed in North America, truly 1st class! We were made to feel so welcome from all staff from the moment we arrived. We had afternoon tea and breakfast in the resort restaurant Browns whilst we were staying at The Mere. All staff were outstanding with regards to their customer service, professional manner and friendly approach. Pam took care of us during breakfast and she went above and beyond for us making sure we had the perfect breakfast. We had dinner outside the club lounge which was gorgeous. Our favourite course was our starters (I have attached a photo.) The portions were really generous and everything tasted delicious. We found our room to be very spacious and my husband said it was the comfiest bed he has ever slept in. The duvet and the mattress was so comfortable. The room had a massive TV and had many channels and movies that we could watch. Every area of this hotel is also absolutely spotless. We both said we wish we would have had our wedding here, it is that beautiful! We hope to return again soon and try the spa which we didn’t have time to do on this trip. Thank you to all the staff at The Mere for making our stay so memorable. We loved every minute of our stay and can’t thank the staff enough for making it so good.
Fantastic experience: Oh wow. My northern treasure! Stayed over night for a spa retreat. The hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful. High tea was perfect. Great selection and good quality. Spa was so relaxing. Hotel room fabulous, spacious, clean accessible, comfortable bed,and a good selection of beverages. So impressed I've booked to go back again to enjoy the facilities, Spa treatments and to totally unwind. Thanks to all the staff at the Mere Golf and Spa Resort
Fantastic experience: Every year a group of 6 meet for a long weekend for a few drinks, bite to eat and a game or two of golf. This year the course was in top condition and although I played mediocre we all loved it. Got to say a big thank you to Pam in the mornings and Will at night for their attention to detail and very welcoming positive attitude. The rooms are starting to look tired and we hear that this will soon change and is in the midst of a complete overhaul, I for one hope it doesn’t lose it charm and become something it’s not.
Fantastic experience: The four of us were on an overnight golfing break in mid May 23, the course was in great condition especially the greens. The course is well laid out and looks beautiful (see pictures) obviously the weather helps. The downside is that the buggies were £40 per round, which is expensive and I found the shop expensive too. Tip, ask for the complimentary bag towel with your name on as a group of friends went the week before and didn't ask. I asked and all our party were given one.
Fantastic experience: We went to The Mere golf resort and spa for afternoon tea yesterday 12/05/23 which was bought for us as a gift by our daughter. I can honestly say that it was the best afternoon tea we have ever had . It was all top quality ingredients and delicious and all the cakes were home made by the Chef. The staff were lovely and very attentive especially Laurent who looked after us . He was lovely and friendly and kept checking if we needed anything else. He explained everything that was on the presentation stand and we were very impressed with everything. Thank you for looking after us Laurent and thank you to the Mere resort for such a lovely experience and thank you to " Chef " who made such a delicious afternoon tea and is truly talented. We shall definitely be coming again. Thank you , kind regards Shirley and Alan Lindop.
Fantastic experience: My kind of place to go-- gym- lunch- afternoon tea- evening meal-- all superb!! Staff very obliging and willing to help- lovely venue too!! So, it's golf, gym, lunch-- day sorted!!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic stay at The Mere Resort & Spa. Very clean hotel, fantastic location with stunning views!! The Spa is definitely worth a visit, we feel very relaxed after our stay!! The food was great in the bar and the breakfast at Brown's is truly amazing......fantastic choice and the breakfast tasted delicious!! A big shout out to Pam, Sian & Ange who were so helpful and friendly, great customer service!! A big shout out as well to the two ladies on reception, very helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay at the Mere resort again and would definitely recommend to others.
Fantastic experience: Went here for my sister’s birthday. Stayed overnight. Lovely hotel and the staff last night, were amazing so helpful. Had breakfast this morning 04/05/23 Again couldn’t fault it. So much choice and it was delicious. Morning staff again were outstanding. Very attentive and made sure you had everything you need. Most of all nice to see happy friendly faces all round. Including reception staff. It’s a pleasure to write such a positive review. Well deserved. Definitely stay here again. Excellent. Negative experience: I inquired about a membership yesterday via email. This morning Angie (staff member) called me and asked if I can come at 3pm to see the club. The time was not my preferred but I agreed that I will be there. When I came at 2:55pm, I was told by reception that Angie would come in "a minute". At 3:10pm, I said I would be leaving in 5 minutes if she does not show up. At 3:15pm, she still was not there, so I notified the reception and left. While driving home at 3:25pm, I got a call from Angie saying she was with a different member. She then lied to me saying she was only 10 minutes late and did not see me there. I told her that's not true as I was still there and then she had nothing more to say. Highly unprofessional. I am disappointed and will not be joining the club.
Fantastic experience: Outstanding service received from Becky, in The Club Lounge. Went out her way to accommodate our last minute request and made a celebratory lunch a very memorable one! Nothing was too much trouble. Outstanding setting and amazing food. Thank you !
Fantastic experience: Visited for afternoon tea for my elderly mother's birthday and enjoyed a walk with views of the mere after. Service was impeccable. The staff were polite and the buildings and setting are incomparable. When the concierge was aware that this was for a birthday celebration she arranged for a glass of champagne and a slateboard with birthday greetings and chocolates which wasn't expected and made for a pleasant surprise. I highly recommend this venue when want something that little bit special and perhaps a little extravagant. Thank you to all the staff who made this a memorable birthday.
Fantastic experience: Went here for afternoon tea for mothers day, it was absolutley perfect, staff where lovely always asking if we wanted anymore tea or anything else yet not intrusive, i would recommend browns at mere to anyone fantastic
Fantastic experience: Came for a Birthday Afternoon Tea at Browns Restaurant. The selection and quality of sandwiches, sweet treats and scones was delightful. Pam's service was outstanding and made the experience extra special. Couldn't fault anything from arrival, to eating to leaving... just excellent. I would definitely return and recommend to others too.
Fantastic experience: Attended an event in the club house/ bar. I must say it was an exceptional day and evening. Food was fantastic and staff were very attentive. I would like to single out Becky/ Ali and George for their special efforts to make us feel really looked after. Lovely Spot! Mere is beautiful!
Positive experience: Came for a spa day for my boyfriends birthday we had the step into spring package and I swapped to have a 55 minute facial instead of the massage, the facial was amazing however I did find the radio cutting off and on about half way through completely distracting and did alter the relaxing as it was a very annoying noise and went on for last half of it. I did enjoy my service but that really distracted me and I came out to find my boyfriend had the same issue in his room so it seems it was across the whole spa. We came out and I didn't like sitting in the café area wearing a robe while it was quite busy with the gym being in the upper area logs of foot traffic and people on zoom calls in the area. We went to the pool after to find a very loud dancing class in one of the pools and I can honestly say if I had known this would be happening at that time we'd have booked a different time to come or even somewhere else as it was not relaxing and quite distracting if I'm honest. I enjoyed our time here however the problems we did have would leave me to not return. The afternoon tea was quite awkward because we sat there from 11.50 and had to come up and remind staff what we were there for due to watching everyone around us get served first. The staff are amazing and would like to say this is no reflection on them but I honestly think for the price it should be a better experience overall.
Fantastic experience: Simon and the team were absolutely amazing during our stay. Everyone was very welcoming from the moment we checked in, which they went above and beyond for my girlfriend’s birthday. We were both completely blown away with the amazing service we received from everyone. It was so thoughtful for the complementary Champagne and the additional touches for such a special occasion. This made our stay very memorable. The spa and pool facilities were fantastic and the food and drinks were incredible. I would definitely recommend the Mere Hotel to anyone and we will definitely be back again soon.
Positive experience: Absolutely stunning location and a stunning hotel. I have travelled past The Mere several times and have always wanted to go. My partner and I came the weekend before valentines day and had afternoon tea, an evening meal and use of the spa facilities which were just beautiful. The staff were so amazing I've never received service like I have at this hotel. The food was incredible. I loved every moment here and would definitely return again.
Fantastic experience: Our 5th visit now - just a really enjoyable spot and a lovely relaxing time.. we travel a fair way to get there, but miss the place when we leave.. Lovely staff, a great swimming pool/spa space on the doorstep and just a proper high-end hotel and dining experience.. This time the young chap who served us at dinner was especially attentive and genuinely engaging, which made dinner that bit more memorable.. kudos to him from the hybrid Sea Bream/Aubergine man.. We'll always be back, hopefully before Easter for another night or two.. top class.. Thank you :)
Negative experience: I honestly cannot describe how bad my experience of the Mere has been. Given I actually live in Knutsford myself, it has shocked me how bad it is. I would strongly discourage anyone thinking to book a stay here. Service I would give it a 0 out of 5 stars if I could, but sadly I had to give at least 1. Do not waste your money . Plenty of other good locations / hotels in the Knutsford / Cheshire area. Won’t set foot in the Mere again . 0 stars.
Fantastic experience: What a fantastic hotel. Hotel rooms were spacious and well thought out. With heated floors and a heated mirror in the bathroom to make life that little more luxurious. The food was incredible, the menu was simple but good simple, offering a range of mouth watering options. The staff were impeccable, service was fast and glasses were barely empty. We celebrated our 20th anniversary of being together and can't wait to go back. Situated in the perfect location for a romantic getaway and a simple night away of indulgence.
Positive experience: Very good venue for weddings, parties and golf! Always a pleasure to come here. Food excellent - good variety (depending on host); restaurant/ bar staff friendly, polite and provide good service.
Fantastic experience: Superb! Me and my husband visited for a pre valentines treat. We used the spa and had a lovely afternoon tea. We finished off with dinner in the club lounge. We were greeted by Becky the club mananager, who I can not praise enough. What an asset to your establishment, this lady went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful evening. We are already planning our next trip.
Negative experience: Firstly the hotel, great location but the rooms are tired and not what we had hoped for. Now to the Spa, despite confirming our treatments on numerous occasions, they still failed to deliver. James Woodhouse when questioned was so blasé about it and then totally nonchalant when we attempted to escalate further, even to the point of stating there is no complaint escalation process, “it’s me…” We later established any escalation should go to Martin Davies, Spa Manager, who in his bio states “It gives great job satisfaction knowing that you have helped to deliver a wonderful guest experience.”… well, we’re sorry to report you and your team have failed four guests on this occasion, miserably.
Fantastic experience: Lovely stay at the mere, the experience, rooms and food was very good. We was welcomed by Natalie which was a brilliant start as she was very nice and made us feel comfortable and was there to help with anything we needed, she really takes care of the guests which is why we will definitely be coming back a 3rd time lol.
Positive experience: We visited the restaurant for afternoon tea on Sunday. I have no complaints about the food or service. The staff was welcoming and accommodating, and the afternoon tea was among the greatest I've ever had. A variety of sweet treats, scones with cream and jam, and salty sandwiches were available. Even though it was spilt while being served, the coffee was also really good. The two disappointments of the visit were the lack of music and the decaf espresso.
Fantastic experience: Lovely room, underfloor heating in the bathroom was a nice bonus after a shower. The afternoon tea was delicious. Breakfast was served hot with freshly squeezed orange juice. Free film in the room was a nice added feature too. Really friendly staff made it visit great
Fantastic experience: I booked the Mere Golf Resort and Spa as a birthday treat just after the New Year for my husband. What a lovely place to stay and relax in!! We had a lake view room which had everything you could ask for. Love the little Molton Brown toiletries in the bathroom. We both had a spa treatments which was lovely and relaxing. I had booked Browns for dinner which was excellent and had a couple of drinks in the club room. Breakfast was lovely, hot and plenty of choice!! We are not really keen on buffet style breakfasts but this was lovely. The only thing I would say is there's only scrambled eggs on offer but you can order poached or fried eggs beforehand. Maybe a little board or notice to say to preorder these before you have your full English as I didn't realise and by the time my fried egg came I had nearly finished my breakfast. Would I come back to the Mere, yes I would definitely consider coming back and maybe a bit longer next time!!
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel, very comfy beds & breakfast was varied & very good. All staff we came into contact were highly proficient & can honestly say their customer service was outstanding! Special shout out to the reception staff & the hospitality staff covering breakfast. Highly recommend.
Negative experience: Abysmal customer service. We stayed here before Xmas. Booked into the restaurant which they closed because they couldn't get a Chef in, so we dined in the bar, which took almost 3 hours to have 2 courses because we had to prompt staff to take an order, take food away, take a dessert order etc. That would be fine if it was busy but there were only 6 tables in and 4 staff on!!! The following morning the coffee machine wasn't working, the creams we wanted from the spa had ran out, the beds were two singles pushed together with no topper. It was just all poor, especially as we paid £450. I've emailed with frustrations, filled out their customer survey and not a peep from them. Absolutely terrible.
Negative experience: The room was to a good standard but the view outside was overlooking an un-made up car park. The bath was poorly designed as one would have to stand up to operate the controls and increase the heat. The evening meal at Browns was to a good standard as was the service but extremely expensive for what it was. £145 for two with just one bottle of wine. The breakfast was a very poor standard and service stopped at 10 am which was extremely early. If one wanted an omelette, one would have to pay an extra £5.00. Most disappointing of all was that the Spa was not included (did you read the small print?) Having stayed at the Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons and similar 5 star hotels, we were surprised to be asked for another £30 if we wanted to use the pool. Finally we checked out on the TV and immediately received a knock on the door asking us to vacate the room. No, we won't rush back here. It's a good place to stay for an evening but expect to be charged extra for anything other than the four walls of the room. Disappointing.
Fantastic experience: Just spent two festive nights at the hotel with my family. Absolutely everything was wonderful made even more enjoyable by the friendly staff who were so helpful and pleasant. We are most certainly booking for next year. Thank you ‘The Mere’.
Negative experience: Stayed here tonight. We arrived to be told they have no record of our spa booking but have the booking for afternoon tea in the spa but not the massage nothing they could do as are fully booked and was my issue. The only reason we booked the overnight stay was we where using the spa tomorrow. Asked to speak to a manager who came to the room while we where eating our room service but proceeded to stand over the table where was eating and was rude abrupt and condescending felt quite intimidated by him and the way he spoke to us. Basically been told it’s my issue and nothing he can do. Have stayed numerous times but would never stay again after this
Fantastic experience: Beautiful place, extraordinary service, nice clean Spa with swimming pool, late dinner was delicious. Not my first stay with them and not last for sure! I wish other hotels in UK to be this top quality!
Fantastic experience: I enjoyed a day in the spa today, it began with a beautiful massage by Amy who was such a delight! A perfect full body massage, followed by all that the spa facilties have to offer and cream tea! Bliss! Definitely recommend it! Staff all so friendly!
Negative experience: Christmas festive party. Bar staff rude, aggressive when questioned about overcharging several of our party for bottles of Hacienda Merlot. £43 & £39 charged. Wine served marked at £29 on viewing asked for wine list. How many unknowingly overcharged.? Venue, waiting on staff, DJ very good.
Fantastic experience: Dear team, It has been an absolutely pleasure. We spend an evening with the whole company there and it was a fabulous service. I lost a button of my tuxedo and the team did everything to get the button back on the jacket. Thank you all for an amazing evening!
Positive experience: Attended for a Christmas party. Lovely venue, friendly staff and tasty food (when it arrived) to be fair there was 500+ of us but I didn’t receive a dessert which was odd. But none the less amazing time.
Fantastic experience: This is a lovely hotel. The rooms are large and comfortable. The grounds are very pretty. The food is also very good. Staff are helpful and friendly. They also offer free car charging (with a 3 hour limit), but disappointingly some guests just leave their cars plugged in all day. I saw some people arguing about this and it probably needs a bit of management which is a shame. The beds are really, super soft. If that’s your thing, then you should be happy. Baths are kinda high. Can imagine that would be a tricky showering scenario for those with limited mobility. The gym and spa is lovely and there seem to be good golf facilities too. Overall
Fantastic experience: Went for a spa break. The rooms are a good size, clean, bright, and comfortable - only down side was the bed was beds pushed together. The spa was lovely, staff were friendly and the treatments professional. The swimming pool was warm and large - great for relaxing and having fun. Breakfast was well run, with a big selection of buffet food to choose from... Pastries, cereal, full English etc.
Negative experience: Stayed for 2 nights in a junior suite. The standard of the rooms we had were poor. The first room had a blocked sink, shaving light out of order. The furnishings were old and tired and layout was not as advertised online. We had also requested a shower in advance of arriving due to mobility issues (this was over a bath which was not ideal). We spoke to the duty manager who said we could swap rooms for the second night. Overall this room was better, it had a free standing shower, so access was easier, however the sofa was very old, had no springs or cushioning left. We also had 2 towels provided in the bathroom which were dirty. The spa was a walk across the car park, none of the ‘push to open’ buttons worked to open doors, which makes access difficult for those with disabilities. The swim lane had a sign next to it saying it was not for exclusive use and should be a shared experience. However this was not to be the case when swimming lessons were happening (not advertised on the sign) and reduced the size of the pool available. The swimming instructor’s equipment (zoodles, floats etc) were scattered by the side of the pool which were a trip hazard. Sauna, jacuzzi pool and steam rooms were nice (one steam room out of service). Breakfast had a good selection with friendly staff, pastries were delicious. We were given a free bottle of Prosecco for the inconvenience, which we don’t think was satisfactory compensation for what we went through. Overall, I struggle to see how this is a 4 star hotel and would not recommend it to anybody. The hotel needs to be doing better to ensure access and accommodation is suitable for those with disabilities. We have experienced much better at other hotels.
Positive experience: It was quite busy during my stay but the staff stayed cool under pressure and the service was very good. My room was clean and comfortable and had all the accoutrements one would need on a short business stay. Happy to recommend it.
Positive experience: A little mixed experience here. We had a delightful stay overall, the rooms are great and the view is lovely, the whole area is very picturesque. The spa has incredible facilities. The only issues we had were driving l service related. Being constantly stopped for our dog, despite it being an active service dog. Including the middle of the night. The lady who gave the massages didn't seem to know what she was doing also and didn't react to feedback we gave. Overall it's a good hotel and great amenities but requires a little more attention on the service and staffing front.
Fantastic experience: I have just enjoyed a three day golf break at the Mere with 20 friends and we all had a wonderful time. The rooms are delightful, clean and well designed, the food is excellent, and most importantly, the staff are all friendly and helpful. One morning, I heard cleaning staff singing to themselves - happy workers is always a sign of a good company. Thanks to all those who made our three days memorable.
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel and friendly staff, breakfast staff very helpful, great variety for buffet breakfast or choose from paid extras. Beds were fairly comfortable but I'm very fussy when it comes to beds, rooms spacious and clean with amenities like iron, coffee machine. Use of pool and sauna etc costs £15 per person even if your staying at hotel, and if you want to use spa make sure you don't book out first otherwise your not allowed to use, so if you arrive like we did, late around 7pm you can't really use facilities so thought I'd use spa after checkout at 11 whilst waiting for husband to finish work. Your not allowed to do this as no longer a hotel guest. Thankfully staff were very helpful, but just bear this in mind if wanting to use spa. I would definitely use the hotel again
Fantastic experience: Attended the James braid suite for a wedding. It was a fabulous spacious venue. All staff were all super friendly and happy. It was perfectly clean including the bathrooms. Outside seating. The room for the wedding ceremony and meal were beautifully dressed. Only wished I'd of stopped the night at the hotel.
Fantastic experience: This hotel is fabulous but the best thing about it is the staff. From the moment we entered the door we were greeted with friendly, professional, enthusiastic and knowledgeable people. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff on the main reception (Emily and Andrea) answered all questions with skill and helped with all enquiries. We used the spa and had afternoon tea, once again all staff were super friendly - especially Charlie and James who really were service with a smile. So warm and friendly, yet professional and accommodating.
Fantastic experience: Stayed here overnight in one of the suites. I believe the suite was named after an Australian prime minister. Not sure on that one although I'm certain he was Australian. Our room overlooked the tennis courts where there looked to be tutoring going on. It also overlooked a putting green where avid golfers could perfect their short game. As the name suggests there is a large golf focus, the golf seemed very popular with a lot of golfers out and about on the course. There was also a golf shop We didn't try the spa Breakfast was lovely and the team was great, taking our bags to our room and answering any questions we had. There's beers in the mini fridge in case you get caught short The room was very spacious
Fantastic experience: Took my wife here for a spa day with massage treatments and we both had a great day. The treatments where very good. The facilities are modern and well looked after. We will be visiting again in the future.
Fantastic experience: My wife and I stayed here for two nights. The setting is beautiful. We had room 5 on the lower floor which opened out onto a terrace just below the putting green, so you had privacy and also easy access to the 1st tee. The room was nicely decorated and in very good order. One thing I noticed was the phone next to our bed was very bright when the lights were turned off, I put my mobile phone over the display and that resolved our issue. The breakfast I would say is one of the best we've ever had. There were lots to choose from, infact you think of what you wanted they had it. I highly recommend that. We didn't have lunch or dinner there so can't give a revue regarding menu or quality of food. The staff were very attentive. I give this 5 out of 5.
