Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: Came for a swim, was charged about 15 quid for ten minutes. Due to receptionists not thinking to let us know there was a team who had booked out the whole pool. Not very impressed given we’d driven a way to get there n paid all that money for the sake of ten mins. Staff weren’t helpful either. Definitely not going back
Negative experience: The 6am alarm and anticipation of a sweaty morning gym session was quickly crushed due to an extremely unhelpful unaccommodating staff member who tried to charge £20 for a single days workout and was extremely dismissive despite my friend being a previous student and regular attendee of said gym. No help was given and this interaction took an extremely long time negating our early alarms and cutting into precious gym time due to the limited opening hours, forcing us to find an alternative gym.
Hi Sarah Thankyou for your feedback. The sports centre is primarily for the use of the School during the day. Outside of School hours we are open to the community. Our opening hours are available to view online, and you can view all of our membership options we offer, and sign up online prior to visiting to make the process as speedy as possible when you come to the centre. The minimum membership term for the gym is one week which is £20, we do not offer day passes as a way of controlling gym capacity for our regular users. After reviewing the CCTV footage and speaking to our receptionist, the process of signing up your friend, before you mentioned you only wanted a day pass took 3 minutes to process and explain. Unfortunately we were unable to offer you a free session because your friend was a previous student as you suggested.
Negative experience: I can only assume the people reviewing this sports centre havent been to the swimming pool - definitely dont believe the 'estate agent quality' photos of the pool on the website - advertised as "a 25 metre four lane competition pool.", as a competitive swimmer I can assure you it isnt: - the pool itself is filthy (toilet tissue / tissue floating in the water, dirt on the bottom of the pool etc); - the toilets off the changing room were flooded - I don't know what was on the floor in the men's changing rooms, but it wasn't a great colour and I wasn't getting close enough to it to find out - there are no lockers (only a sign saying that management take no responsibility for any losses for your valuables that you have nowhere to leave safely) - the pool surrounds have that 1970s 'school pool vibe', which is probably when it was last renovated - the 'app' (they call it an 'app', but there isnt an 'app', just an online website 1990s style) tells you that you have booked and paid, then when you turn up they say they have no record of this booking and you have to pay again (probably 50/50 if I've been charged twice) I'm sure the (new) main sports centre is lovely, as it looks brand new, but this pool is disgusting. I was in the area for a sports camp, so used this and the Truro Leisure Centre pool - if you are looking for a swimming pool don't go on the centre reviews, the Truro Leisure Centre is 10x better, and you can leave without feeling you need to visit the doctors to get your booster jabs.
Fantastic experience: Really nice leisure centre although we only used the Basketball court. Staff were pleasant and helpful and the court was well maintained while spotlessly clean
Fantastic experience: Good friendly staff, great sport hall
Positive experience: Really nice sports centre but could do with a clean.
Positive experience: Booked a space for badminton, a little pricey for the hour compared to penryn sports hall. Has free parking. Water fountain seemed to be broken, unless there was another I didn’t spot. Lighting alright. Good location
Fantastic experience: Complete gym with good structure and very pleasant visitors.
Fantastic experience: Great for kids pool party
Positive experience: Quiet pool, usually. Ideal
Positive experience: The gym is very good. Lots of equipment and very cheap if you pay for a whole year monthly payments also very competitive compared to other gyms locally. Recently end of 2023 there has been a renovation with new equipment installed. Often quiet especially weekends.
Positive experience: Little gem away from the crowds, it's a bit tired, fussy to pay then circle down to the swimming pool down lots of stairs, basic changing rooms but it's a school pool so it's exactly what you would expect. No co changing which makes it hard for a female parent with a young boy, so we got changed in the small disabled toilet which wasn't the nicest. Overall I love that we often have the pool to ourselves when we come, beats the holiday crowds. Staff are lovely.
Fantastic experience: My daughter used these facilities recently and found them to be clean, well maintained and sufficient for any 8 year olds needs!

Fantastic experience: Great Sports Center Daughter has Hockey goalkeepers practice here
Fantastic experience: Seems a nice place, took grandson so he could do his life saving class
Fantastic experience: Great place. good stuff
Fantastic experience: Great space. Available to book. Had out kids bday party here and it was very enjoyable.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic place. Clean and they even pick up the phone to take bookings unlike the council run places! Much better than Better
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, great venue.
Fantastic experience: Great fun
Fantastic experience: Ok.
Fantastic experience: Played 5 aside here aswell as badminton great facilities and friendly helpful staff
Positive experience: Quite big
Fantastic experience: well equipped gym and facilities
Fantastic experience: Play squash here regularly and always try to bring someone different to play against. The gym is also very good but I suggest that you bring your own towel just incase the gym roll has been used up. It's not high tech but when working out all you need is the equipment to work, and it does! Great view of Truro aswell! Friendly receptionists and staff aswell. Good prices for facilities!
Positive experience: Good sports center with a large Hall for basketball, badminton etc, and a couple of seperate squash courts. Squash courts do get a bit stuffy in this 30 degree C whether we're experiencing currently however. Changing rooms are okay, and there is plentiful free on site parking. Prices are reasonable for non members; About £6 for 45 minutes for a squash court. Equipment hire is available and reasonably priced.
Positive experience: Fantastic sports centre with lots of great staff and equipment the kids love going there for the swimming pool and have been there for lots of kids sports party
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, good value, good range of straightforward kit, & not too busy.
Positive experience: Use this fairly regularly. Facilities are clean and well looked after. One thing missing is a comfortable rest area / cafe.
Thank you for your review Rowland. Your feedback is really helpful to gauge how our members feel and what they would like from us. We're always looking at ways to improve our offering so thank you again for your honest feedback. I hope you continue to enjoy your visits to the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports Centre.
Fantastic experience: Our karate club uses this venue hall often
Positive experience: Great facilities and very friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Come play Baseball! Truro Blue Jays train at the sir Ben Ainslie centre on a Sunday! Look them up and come play! :)
Fantastic experience: All the latest equipment and space available allowing you to train anything you wish to solo or with friends. However, I would recommend avoiding hours around school time eg after 6pm or at weekends due to it being filled with students in school hours.
Positive experience: Nice gym, but machines are often out of order
Fantastic experience: Absolutely one of the finest sports facilities in Cornwall.
Positive experience: Good facilities, could do with being able to make recurring bookings
Positive experience: Reasonably equipped. , reasonably priced, clean, lovely views and lovely staff . , but limited open hours for public
Fantastic experience: The best complex sport center in Truro.
Fantastic experience: Always a warm and friendly welcome from staff who are ever willing to help.
Fantastic experience: Great gym! Not huge but very well equipped. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Opening hours suit me but if you need weekday daytime access then check first.
Positive experience: Good facilities but have sometimes found staff unwilling to be helpful when to do so would not have been difficult.
Fantastic experience: It's super cool
Positive experience: good venue but sports hall way too warm!
Positive experience: Good facilities and surroundings
Positive experience: Excellent squash facilities. But they don't take card so take cash.
