Negative experience: I deeply regret joining David Lloyd Cheam. I was double-charged on both the joining fee and the membership over three months ago. Despite numerous attempts to resolve this, the staff have been completely unhelpful. They refuse to take my complaints seriously, never return my calls, and constantly lead me to dead ends. I feel ignored and disrespected at every turn. Don’t believe the fake reviews—this place is not worth it. I wish I had listened to the people who warned me about joining this club. The customer service at the Cheam branch is absolutely disgraceful, and this experience has been nothing but stressful. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place at all costs

Negative experience: This club is unfortunately starting to look tired and dated in comparison to others I’ve been to recently. The staff are great and always try to help where possible but the facilities are not great; - black mould on the men’s shower ceiling - women’s changing rooms often closed or out of order due to blocked drains - steam room with barely any steam - loads of gym equipment out of order; treadmills x4, leg machines, cable machines etc - clubhouse TVs are barely functioning with light spots or awkward positions

Fantastic experience: Myself and my family were given a tour by Ben and he was very patient given I had two kids with me. Very polite and friendly staff at all stations. Reception. Cafe. Softplay. The place is very clean and tidy. Ben was very attentive answered all my questions. We were with him a lot longer than expected and he never rushed us. Made us feel welcome. Great place to be.

Positive experience: On the whole it’s a pleasant club, the facilities are good, well looked after, the classes when you can book them are decent with great instructors. I have chosen to not review my membership however for a couple of reasons. I was disappointed to learn only once I’d joined that the indoor swimming pool is closed every week day between 9 and 12, which is the very reason I joined. To go swimming after the school drop off. I wasn’t informed of this when signing up. Yes, you can use the outdoor pool but when it’s raining/cold it’s not very inviting. The pool also closes fairly frequently to adhere to its neighboural contractual obligations. Again, I was not informed of this prior to signing up. I thought I’d give the classes a go, but they get booked up so quickly that you are lucky to get a space. I also found it a bit frustrating that there isn’t much communication as to the true levels or stages for yoga for example. I thought I was joining a beginner class for yoga for it to be an advanced class. Not a huge issue but would be good to have more info. I joined with my two children, in the hope that they’d go to the kids clubs while I worked out. Unfortunately the clubs were very disappointing and no where near the descriptors given in the sense of real structure, staff enthusiasm or fun. For example, I paid £5 extra for the ice cream creation class and the kids were just given a scoop of ice cream in a bowl with some shop bought sprinkles to put on it. And the ‘art’ classes seemed to just include printed out colouring pages and dried out markers… for ages 6 +… Often the staff would be more interested in speaking amongst themselves than having fun with the children. Leaving some of the older kids to become restless and disruptive. Needless to say my kids didn’t want to go back to any clubs further limiting when I could actually workout. Generally, the staff have a bit of a ‘can’t be bothered’ attitude and lack professionalism in being around their customers. There seems to be a bit of cool club clique which is very evident and translates to an arrogance. This club would be really great if management could adopt a more pleasant culture of transparency with clients from the get go, better class comms, and instil a better sense of enthusiasm stronger work ethic.

Fantastic experience: Have been a member here for 6 months and am really enjoying it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Priya was the member of staff who showed us around 6 months ago and was so helpful and friendly and every time I see her she always smiles and says hello (and can even remember my name!). I particularly love the Pilates classes with Beverly Clark, who is an excellent instructor.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to Jude's Spin classes now for a number of years both at Cheam and Epsom and have always found her a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructor who takes a genuine interest in improving fitness levels and takes time to ensure new comers are made to feel welcome and inclusive.

Negative experience: Unprofessional and Time-Wasting Experience at David Lloyd Cheam! I had an extremely disappointing experience at David Lloyd Cheam, primarily due to the unprofessional conduct of one of the staff members, Liam (or William—his name wasn’t clear, but his behavior was). I called ahead to inquire about membership prices and was told to visit the gym in person for a tour. When I arrived, instead of being shown the facilities, I was immediately asked to provide my full name, email address, and mobile number. This demand for personal information before even seeing the gym was intrusive and entirely unnecessary, especially since I hadn’t even decided if I wanted to join. I expressed my discomfort with providing such details upfront, yet Liam insisted that it was required, effectively refusing to proceed with the tour unless I complied. This pushy and inflexible attitude is not only a waste of time but also highly unprofessional. It left me feeling that my time and privacy were not respected. If this is how David Lloyd Cheam treats potential members, I can only imagine how current members are treated. I strongly advise against wasting your time here unless you're comfortable with invasive demands for your personal information from the moment you walk in the door.
