The Roger Bettles Sport Centre: Opinions
Positive experience: Overall a great gym. The gym and locker rooms are clean and well maintained. I wish there were a few more modern machines as I am not a student I do have to pay a premium that sits alongside the likes of David Llyod so would like some more equipment.
Positive experience: I thought the Roger Bettles Sport Centre looked Modern, Spacious and clean. Lots of equipment upstairs. Staff were very helpful.
Negative experience: The lighting on the 5 a side football pitch is extremely poor. When night falls, it's nearly impossible to see anything; it's quite frustrating.
Positive experience: Low lighting in the upstairs sports hall needs to be brighter
Positive experience: need tricep pushdown
Fantastic experience: Extremely happy with clean and good quality equipment, range of classes, and instructors. I have used the facility for over ten years. I particularly benefit from Boot camp classes run by Andy and Lyn, and spinning classes of Rosa and Kate, and am particularly pleased with range and variety of exercises as well as attention given by the instructors and their dedication.
Positive experience: I'm a student at the University and it was my first experience at a gym. The facilities were really clean, staff was very helpful and particularly loved the free trial aspect
Positive experience: Nice place for sports activities including gym, badminton Helpful staff, nice and clean
Fantastic experience: Amazing,
Fantastic experience: Great facilities
Positive experience: Bar one thing it’s a Great gym, staff very helpful and have excellent Personal Training support , equipment perfect. No filming or photos which is great. The issue is you can’t get a decent mobile signal and the WiFi is shocking, so streaming if you’re running or listening to random music is almost impossible at times
Positive experience: A nice relaxed gym environment. Good mix of students and non-students in the evening. Generally a more mature and casual crowd i.e. no camera tripods and filming of workouts going on or powerlifting taking place. My only feedback would be to introduce a two tier membership system for non-students. I do not use the sauna, steam or pool and therefore the £55 per month price is high. (If you use the facilities it is perfectly reasonable). Perhaps a £35 for gym only and £55 for the addition of sauna, steam, pool.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant
Negative experience: Initially I thought this gym was great, the facilities and pool etc. Unfortunately it is not a safe space for women during the Aqua session. This is due to a small group of men who are always present staring at the instructor and those in the pool at conveniently every aqua class. interesting, I wonder if they would be watching so intently if it was a group of men! They sit on the bench on the side, in the jacuzzi or if they really want to try to be discreet in the sauna. I have reported this to the duty manager at the time and have not had a response! I wonder if the senior manager is a male by any chance!!! There is a complete lack of respect for women wishing to work out without having dirty old men staring at them (and some younger ones too). It really saddens me to think that management do not have any consideration and a complete lack of understanding of how this makes us feel. I was taking some time out in the hope of returning but not now!! They seem to be heavily influenced by their GREED of money as opposed to what’s right and wrong.
Fantastic experience: You guys have to try out this gym! Staff members are (mostly) very friendly, there's tons of equipment meaning there's always something to do, their pricing/offers are great and I'm loving the diversity of people whom feel comfortable here :)
Fantastic experience: It's insanely big
Fantastic experience: Great gym, give towels to borrow.
Fantastic experience: Great place for Badminton
Positive experience: Very good but my main concern is that other nearly impossible to book the indoor court. During the whole year I have only been able to book once so all I am left with is just the gym. Family swimming is not allowed so can use it for my kids and have to go to city centre one. Unfortunately there is no air conditioning system so in hot weather its nearly impossible to work out since all what is provided is a few fans which are not enough so not happy about that too.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic place in the center of Barcelona
Fantastic experience: The staff are friendly and they have a sauna and jacuzzi.
Positive experience: Great pool and jacuzzi though Regular issues on jacuzzi meaning it is frequently closed for maintenance. Clean and generally not too busy, especially outside term times.
Fantastic experience: more GAINZ
Positive experience: Gym closes quite early and is in need of refurbishment, after having been told the site was being refurbed in November/December - no change, slow to fix machines in the gym, and gets quite busy in the evenings, for only gym use definitely better value elsewhere. EDIT: since this the gym has been fully refurbished and has much better use of space, would still prefer if machines were fixed in a more timely manner but more worth its value now.
Positive experience: Very slow to get things fixed and in running order
Positive experience: Gym equipment in need of modernisation, there are also issues with sauna/steam/jacuzzi which are regularly out of action. There are a variety of fitness classes - boxercise with Kelton McKenzie is a must. Tennis/football/hockey have good size pitches. Overall, a touch of TLC could maximise the full potential of the sports centre.
Positive experience: Nice badminton/sports hall had a wierd echo. Nice field/gym closes abit early
Positive experience: Best gym
Fantastic experience: Good quality gym and very friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Great place and and has good quality equipments. Clean and hygienic. Super staff, very helpful. Always enough equipments even when there are people around.
Positive experience: The gym is okay. It needs a massive refresh and possibly new equipment in some areas as it is dated now. Some areas there is tape to hold equipment together and to cover holes in benches. There’s no AC in the gym, and considering the size of the gym there is a floor fan which does nothing really especially in the summer months. The staff are generally very good here, approachable and make an effort usually. They do seem to be out on the gym floor ensuring the equipment is clean and organised as this gym like most gyms, suffer from lazy members who are unable to tidy up and rerack despite the numerous passive aggressive signs around the gym. (These signs probably do need to be reviewed also) Unfortunately I think this gym is probably £10pm overpriced based on the current standards of the gym floor and added extra facilities available (sauna, steam room, pool) here for a local member. If you want a gym to workout only, there are plenty other gyms further with better equipment and lower monthly subscription. This gym for me personally is located conveniently within 5 minutes hence my membership.
Negative experience: Recently the new staff are ruder than the good old ones at reception. Also the gym is full of poor gym machines like technogym which is the worst brand machine you can get from a gym. Swimming is nice however but the gym equipment is rubbish!
Fantastic experience: Top gym, lovely staff
Positive experience: It's ok
Positive experience: Well-equipped for most gym exercises, try to avoid going around 7pm as it's a little too busy. However, it ///desperately/// needs better air conditioning - the building acts as a greenhouse in hot weather and people often feel/be sick and leave early - virtually unusable in the Summer.
Negative experience: Always busy even if I come in at a low time, I have to skip workouts or be late for work. Never had this issue with other gyms
Positive experience: As a fellow student studying at UOL, buying the membership was worth my money and my time! Really good facility with enough equipment to use all year round. Learned a lot of new exercises in the gym. The staff are nice and helpful if needed anything. Would recommend to only buy the student membership if you will want to exercise weekly though. However, I highly encourage all the students from the village to not hesitate and use this facility owned by the university.
Fantastic experience: Very well organised
Positive experience: Leic Uni facility. Played badminton with friends who are members. Don't know if anyone can book a court. I paid £4. Four courts, plenty of space, well marked, good floor surface, good nets. Some lighting was a little overhead. Only 1 of 3 showers working in women's changing rooms which were pretty small & not screened from anyone coming in to use toilets.
Positive experience: Lovely foid
Positive experience: This is located within the Village accommodation of University of Leicester. There is a gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam and jacuzzi and sports training halls. The swimming pool is only 1.2m deep throughout.
Negative experience: Been a member for a few years always been problems with the sauna, steam room or hot tub meaning water faculties all have to close apart from the pool or a lot of the times they would keep swapping the men’s and ladies changing rooms around despite still having to pay the fill £50. On top of that when lockdown happened they continued to take payments out and offer to give in lieu when they re opened but never did so ended up pay for a month where I legally wasn’t able to attend. Desk staff and membership lady are the rude people I’ve come across they do not wish to help at all only want your money. Had a issue where one payment was as missed and was told I would need to set up a direct debit again but noticed months later that payments were going out so went to attended the gym and was told I can’t till the missed payments was paid in full. However they still took money out of my account knowing they wouldn’t let me attend the gym. The systems they have in place dont make sense and ready fair fair. Ripoff for the price and the service. Don’t join this gym you get better equipment, service and price elsewhere in Oadby!

Fantastic experience: Good gym
Negative experience: Terrible
Fantastic experience: Quality Gym
Negative experience: Terrrible gym, terrible bars, questionable staff, poor opening hours and overpriced
Fantastic experience: Expensive gym to join, but it's got everything you need ,swimming pool, sauna, steam room, massive sports hall, tennis courts and football courts , the gym upstairs is quite big with lots of weights therr are 2 rooms which you have private classes or to do your own stuff in...changing rooms can be busy at times . I've been going to this gym ever since they had the smaller gym the (green house) when i was in my 20s which was size of a baked bean can.but that was pretty good..they did have sunbeds.
Fantastic experience: It's a gym for students mainly which local people can join, changing rooms can get busy at peak times but generally clean & tidy.
