Negative experience: The management are complete liars here. They have promised upgrades including, an outdoor pool, hot tub for years, yet all they have done in consistently increase prices above inflation and sell off land to the pint parking is limited. They have recently introduced the second price rise totalling a 40% increase in prices, whilst seemingly increasing the number of members to the point the gym is full and is now busier than the likes of puregym etc. it’s a shame as this used to be a great gym when I first joined several years ago.
Firstly, we couldn’t find a record of a member under your name. Please feel free to contact me directly: [email protected]. We have secured planning for the entire site masterplan, which has been publicly available as part of the planning portal. Members enquired about the plans, so we provided information via the Odyssey App, but we never committed to specific timelines for each element. Currently, we are focused on redeveloping the reception block, which will facilitate the location of the hydrotherapy pool. These are significant projects that take time, and we are fully committed to seeing them through. Regarding prices, they have been adjusted to reflect the enhancements we’ve made across our services and facilities, ensuring we continue to offer value for money. As you can image, the operational costs of running the club increase every year. We absorb as much of this as we can before passing any increase onto our members. Our loyalty to existing members means that the increase in membership fees still offers them a discounted rate compared to new membership rates. Parking has been reorganised to ensure proper use of spaces, with additional parking available at the back for those who need it. To ensure a quality experience for all our members, we are carefully managing our membership numbers to prevent overcrowding. Over the past two years, we have implemented a waiting list for new members specifically to maintain the integrity of our club and protect the overall member experience. Comparing us to budget gyms like PureGym simply doesn’t hold up—our offerings, service, and community are in a completely different league. We understand that price increases can be frustrating and bring around these kinds of reviews, but we remain focused on delivering the best experience to our members and offering excellent value in return.

Negative experience: I love the actual gym but the staff is so rude , Been going there for years , on serval occasions the staff have spoken to me with bad attitude, and I find this so upsetting!!!! The way they approach is so unprofessional! There is no way I can respond back to your reply , so I have to re type it on here. If the approach was professional no way I would post a review on here , the video was literally second on and the way you approached was like back off, Not professional at alll even when I came over to reception to discuss what was all of that about you was extremely rude at my response! and felt extremely happy the way spoke to me and had to discuss it with your colleagues in front of me smiling away . You felt the power ! Approach in nice way you get good feed back next time ! rude with me doesn’t exist! As I wasn’t rude at all !

Fantastic experience: 5 stars is really not enough for this spa. Tatiana is a fantastic therapist. I would recommend her to anyone. She is beyond excellent. I have never met such a lovely lady and top of her profession. Her treatments are the best I have experienced (and i have experienced alot) Today she kindly did my eyebrows which have never grown back since chemo 8 years ago. All I can say is WOW they are amazing. My family, friends and husband LOVE the results. Tatiana is my angel in disguise thank you for giving me these beautiful eyebrows you really are the best.

Fantastic experience: I am now a year into my second membership at Odyssey (unfortunately I had to cancel back in 2017 because I just did not have the time to properly utilise my membership.) It’s time I left a review. I honestly wouldn’t go anywhere else. The facilities, classes and staff are excellent. Front of house/reception never fail to greet members on their way in and always look happy to be there, despite the fact that in reality, we all have times we don’t want to be at work, even if we generally enjoy our jobs. The fitness instructors/gym team are amazing and are very approachable if you need to ask a question. Special shoutout to the lovely lady who keeps the ladies changing room immaculate too. I can see since I was last a member that a lot of money has gone back into club improvements, so the owner(s) obviously care about member experience. Negative experience: This place has gone really down hill recently. It is impossible to park your car after 5pm until about 8pm. Very little space in locker rooms for the amount of people who use it. You are often having to wait for equipment to become free to use it in the gym. You can get a similar experience for much cheaper at the local council gym. I have been going here for the past 5 years and have seen it get worse and worse. They keep promising all these upgrades to keep you coming but don’t be fooled they have been promising them for years. The owner/management seem to prioritise their own financial gains over what used to be a good experience. They recently sold a lot of land that has reduced parking spaces whilst simultaneously having more members and ever increasing membership prices.

We understand that the preference for top lockers, but we encourage our members to utilise the available lower lockers. We are also thrilled to inform you that we invested nearly £100,000 in the gym over the last 12 months, introducing state-of-the-art equipment such as the Technogym Biostrength kit and Origin Ski Erg. We constantly strive to improve our facilities, and more upgrades are in the pipeline to provide you with an even better experience. Furthermore, we take pride in having a membership cap, ensuring that our members have a positive and engaging experience. Despite a decrease in membership numbers post-COVID, our active and committed member base attests to the quality of our club. Positive experience: My best friend and I enjoyed a Cancer Wellness Spa Day. This was purchased almost a year ago but due to the very nature of cancer, we had to rearrange several times. This was our first time visiting Odyssey and we would both definitely return. On arrival we were shown around and given itineraries for our day. The facilities are clean, peaceful, and spacious. The changing rooms are large, with lockers activated by a wristband rather than bringing coins. These were honestly the cleanest pool changing rooms I've ever been in, smelled good and had great hair dryers! There is a large swimming pool, a sauna and a steam room. No hot tub. Loungers at poolside. There is a 'relaxation room' which we absolutely loved. Twinkly sensory lights on the ceiling like a starry sky. Huuuge L shaped bed covering 2 full walls, with lots of snuggly throw blankets and ambient music. We enjoyed snuggling up to drink coffee and talk. We both had a 1 hour massage each, mine deep tissue, hers relaxing. The masseuses were excellent and attentive. We had lunch and prosecco. We thought this would be in the busy health club cafe but instead, there is a dining room in the spa area which beautiful decor, which was quiet and private. The food was delicious-i had an avocado sour dough with chips and she had the steak and chips. Teas and coffees from the cafe are included in your spa day. We also bought some smoothies which were great. We both received some Elemis products as we checked out. The staff were all super attentive, helpful and mindful that my best friend is so unwell. Now a few points- * when we arrived, we noted that there was no drop curb from the blue badge parking bays, into the building. There was work going on in the car park and we think the drop curb was cordened off. We are both ambulant wheelchair users and can't see where we wouldn't been able to access the building, however, I didn't ask so can't say for sure that it wasn't accessible. * this is a large, spacious health club, so be mindful if you are disabled that there is quite a bit of walking involved. * we did think it was silly having to pay 30 pence to have syrup in my coffee when we had paid about £230 for the spa day and hot drinks are included in the price.

Fantastic experience: Member for 18 months: my mum and I joined this club but due to a serious illness our membership was paused which was really helpful because we didn’t have to worry about losing our space in the club or rejoining. Since returning, the staff have been so supportive as I use a wheelchair now- they help me in and out of the pool. The place has been refurbished and has a really lovely atmosphere, nonjudgmental and a place you can go even if you don’t have much confidence. The classes are varied, they have a great app system. I’ve not tried food in the cafe yet but hear good things, likewise with the spa though I will soon as I have a voucher! The gym was always good before though I hear they upgraded equipment. The staff are friendly and helpful. The car park is large and has plenty of disabled parking. This location is wheelchair accessible apart from the main gym upstairs. The only thing that lets this amazing health club down are the disabled changing facilities.

Fantastic experience: We were at Odyssey Health Club with Boras Healing to deliver an ice bath experience. I found the staff were lovley so helpful in creating a wonderful experience also the club itself is wonderful site it's amazing inside with an amazing studio space which was ideal for the event.

Negative experience: AVOID! They want to charge £70 a month and pay £100 upfront to join! Over priced over subscribed gym. This Gym used to be great, but it is obvious that they have gotten greedy, they have reduced the car park spaces, sold off land, and increased the number of members. I have had many times where the car park was full and I couldn’t even park at my overpriced gym. Even outside of the usual peak hours. I would argue the actual gym is actually busier than pure gym where I tend to go to instead now. The only thing that gives this place credit is the staff, receptionists, personal trainers etc. The management however has obviously got greedy and charging premium rates for a service you could get at £20 a month from pure gym etc.

Negative experience: not a helpful gym, offers guests pass but can't take more than one person as a guest pass. You can't also take holiday break. Once you join you will have to commit for 6 month, super inflexible Definitely not worth money the staff are not helpful either

Fantastic experience: Edit - visited again 13/09/24 Visited for a Spa day, I had an Absolute Scentered well-being massage & an Elemis expert facial by Veronica. The treatments were amazing. We also added the Satori Sound Wave Experience, which I highly recommend. The whole day was brilliant. The staff were really attentive and friendly. The food and drinks are always lovely. Can't wait to return. Went to Odyssey for a spa day yesterday with a friend. We had the most amazing day. I opted for a full body hot stone massage and a facial (by Danielle). I highly recommend it. It was a fantastic experience and I can't wait to book again. Everywhere was clean and tidy, not overly busy. The relaxation room was also a highlight of our day. The food and drink were superb. The staff were very friendly.

Negative experience: It’s not a bad place to go for the money. My issues with them was they put the price of the membership up, not by a lot but it was when they sold a lot of land for houses. In the hight of disruption the increase came in. They were also getting compensated for sharing the road into the site. I found this very frustrating ie mid on the road and nowhere to park.If you try talking to them about any issues you get nowhere. Also if you send emails you get no response. The place gets so busy at times, because they’re over sold. I’ve heard membership teams talking about capacity being over by at least 400. When they’re walking new people around. Saying if you don’t sign today, you might not be able to sign up, as we will be implementing a waiting list. I heard the same talk for months.
Thank you for your feedback, however I feel that giving two stars is an unfair review and that perhaps there is a deeper issue. To address your points, please see below: - The price went up because of minimum wage increases, along with astronomical utility increases. - The sale of the land has no relationship to our business, including any compensation for sharing the road into the site. - We capped our membership in January and have been managing the membership numbers since. We will of course tour prospective members around the club and show off our outstanding facilities, including the brand new Biostrength range from Technogym due to be installed in May, however our current start date for new members is over 2 months. Fantastic experience: Been a member for 3 months and love the gym and pool; really good, clean facilities and friendly, helpful staff. They offer a lot of fitness classes but it's almost impossible to book on to one which can be really frustrating. I would definitely recommend for the gym and pool facilities (I can't comment on the spa as I haven't used it yet, but the steam room and sauna are great) however if you're only looking for classes - or predominantly classes - you might be better off trying elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Me and my partner Joined odyssey a few weeks ago.. totally professional from the start. Greeted with a warm smiley welcome from reception staff.. to then follow by more lovely staff, everywhere we went everyone said hello.. and smiled was very refreshing. Nothing is too much Trouble when you ring up, staff go out of their way to accommodate you and are very polite. Lots of class choices. Swimming/sauna area is spotless. Gym is clean and all is very well run. Restaurant is lovely. Spa looks amazing cannot wait to book a treatment! 100% recommend joining this gym.

Fantastic experience: Been here twice for spa days. Staff are so friendly and professional also they are very attentive to your needs. Spa facilities are excellent sauna, steam room, pool etc! And the lunch is so good with so many options and lastly the treatments are incredible the therapists are so lovely and make you feel comfortable.

Fantastic experience: I had a fantastic day at the spa with my sister, the staff couldn't do anymore for you, we both had a body scrub and massage, this was my first ever spa which was a 60th Birthday treat, would highly recommend and would definitely go back.

Fantastic experience: I've been a member for about 20 years so clearly happy, I use only the pool as it's a lovely pool. The café is very good and the staff friendly and charming , occasionally use the spa, had a lovely spa day a couple of months ago , very pleasant.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant customer service and a great health club overall. We were welcomed by Tracey who gave us an itinerary for our Spa day, with timings of our lunch and Spa treatments. We were given complimentary hot flannel and freshly squeezed orange juice on arrival and complimentary teas/coffees throughout the day. We were pleasantly surprised with the gym, swimming pool, sauna and steam room. There's no jacuzzi. Their Spa treatments were wonderful (Gleicie was my therapist for the day and she really made me feel pampered!) and the Moroccan themed relaxation suite was beautiful to relax in afterwards. The lunch was very good and they cater for gluten-free and vegan diets.

Negative experience: Desperately oversubscribed. Unless you put your morning alarm on at 5:55 a.m. you'll never be able to book an Aqua Class. The swim lanes are clearly marked as clockwise circulation, yet the swimmers disobey this health and safety request and create swim lane jams and arguments. Similarly a no diving notice is also ignored and never policed. Probably, again, due to over subscription and minimal poolside staffing. ☹️

Fantastic experience: I've been a member for 6 months now and I can honestly say there isn't anything I can fault with this gym. I had assumed this health club would be costly, but after the poor service I had previously received in name-brand gyms in the area, I was ready to pay extra for quality service. However, to my shock this gym offered a reasonable priced membership, with a flexibility that you don't feel 'locked' into a contract. The staff are polite and always greet you with a smile and are on hand to assist. The gym equipments are up to date, with so much variety. The pool is a decent size, with clean sauna and steam rooms as well. There are so many fun classes that are relatively easy to book, although the popular classes can be hard to get into. There so much more on offer for what you pay for, you feel extremely spoilt. One request I would ask if we can have more early morning classes (before 9am), to accommodate the early birds

Fantastic experience: I came back here for a Christmas present. I've had a whole day swimming and drinking tea. The staff let me have my lunch early and couldn't do enough. This place is highly recommended, great staff, great food and the fantastic treatments

Fantastic experience: 10/10 I’ve never been to spa that has matched the treatments. Every time I’ve been I’ve always came out so refreshed. I’ve moved up to Telford and I’m pretty upset that there isn’t one up here. I love the set up for this spa, so quiet & relaxing

Fantastic experience: My friend & I enjoyed a pamper & prosecco day in August. Everything about the day was fantastic. The staff were lovely, in particular Tracy in the café. She knew it was our first visit and explained what our day consisted of, even before we were given the tour. She was always smiling and was very professional. We're looking forward to our next pamper day in October!

Fantastic experience: Gym facilities brilliant and selection of classes on offer. Treatments are the best. They also have a cocktail bar outside when the weather is warm. With sun loungers and tables opposite their tennis courts. Plus a zen garden to look at in the making

Fantastic experience: I was a member here while I lived in Stevenage for a year. I had never properly been to the gym but it got me into it, such a good environment, lovely staff who help you on your journey, such good equipment, I loved the tech aspect. The swimming pool is very large and never had too many people. It was such a relaxing environment, I wish there was an Odyssey where I live now, best gym and pool I’ve come across. They always seemed to be improving it too. Relaxing environment and never too busy. Worth the price!

Fantastic experience: I really enjoy attending this gym! When I have been with other gyms in the past I never was fully committed or pushed to reach my goals, but with the reviews and inductions it helps so much. Now I go 3-4 times a week and am provided with monthly reviews with experienced Trainers/Coaches who are always willing to help. I highly recommend this Gym for anyone who needs that kick to succeed and reach their fitness goals!

Fantastic experience: During lockdown the club provided online activities which helped us keep fit and our spirits up. Currently the club provides a COVID safe environment to get back into shape. The management and staff have done a good job getting the gym safe and still retaining the friendly club atmosphere. Well done.

Fantastic experience: This place is my haven to let me feel just a little bit “normal” while Covid pandemic has ripped life from under us all. I’m only too happy to go in now & dance to Zumba classes (that’s my Night Club - pub dancing) done! Spin to release some much needed stress from being seated at home since March. So, so grateful that this great venue can continue to operate. Health is everything & I don’t understand people who begrudge paying money regularly towards health. Lovely, clean venue & spa ♀️ too. Fantastic experience: Best health club in the area. Super clean, well equipped gym, lots of classes, swimming pool just great again very clean! Spa offers amazing treatments, restaurant serves delicious food my favourite place and it doesn't feel like hard work to go there even if you are going for super hard leg day Most of the time I'm there daily but there are weeks when I only come 5-6 times Would recommend this place to everyone who likes a bit of time to themselves as it's ADULTS ONLY gym . It is affordable when you compare it to other places in the area, one is more expensive in fact, and doesn't offer half what Odyssey does it is always worth it to come and check it out! Your body and mind would love you for being a member at Odyssey ❤ and years after still the best

Fantastic experience: I have been a member for around two years and I previously hated going to the gym. It’s a lovely, clean, friendly environment. You don’t have to listen to loud and annoying music and you rarely have to wait to use equipment . There are loads of classes to choose from and the gym staff are really knowledgeable and helpful. The pool, spa, tennis courts, cafe are lovely bonuses!! Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member for a few years and always been very happy with the service and facilities but their response to the current situation has been impressive. Thorough cleaning and providing you with your own sanitiser and cloth, delivering the same amount of classes but ensuring excellent social distancing and providing a great food and beverage offer using their outside space. Would highly recommend. Keep doing what you are doing Odyssey!

Negative experience: After 5 year membership and at least five referrals I was disappointed that they wanted a admin fee to rejoin, my membership only lapped due to covid and not being able to re enter uk. What I thought was a professional and well run club soon becomes clear that profit over loyalty is more important to them. After this I will not be recommending them to others and will ensure my friends who joined me at the club and are still members will follow me to a club that appreciated my loyalty. And to top his my referral credit and lost membership due to closer is also gone. Shame really great shame

Fantastic experience: Returning back to odyssey gym has been a life saver. After months of Covid frenzy it has been a relief being able to return to some sense of normality. The staff have gone above and beyond in ensuring members and visitors feel safe when using the awesome facilities. The spa have excelled in creating a peaceful, professional atmosphere where you can relax and recharge and the restaurant food is delicious. It has become our oasis in the storm.

Fantastic experience: First week back at Odyssey after lockdown and I’m so impressed with how the centre is handling the Covid measures in place. The leisure industry has been hit hard and it’s important to share how clean, safe and secure the centre is, social distancing in place along with sanitisers provided. Friendly Staff on hand for support and putting in extra cleaning measures with equipment and surfaces. If you are thinking of joining or re attending Odyssey please do.

Fantastic experience: Great to be back! Since the re-opening I have attended Odyssey a number of times. They have introduced a one way system with cleaning materials upon entry. The staff are always present and helpful. They have done a great job and its a pleasure to train here again!

Positive experience: Whilst this isn't the most extensive of spas, i have to say the treatments i received were excellent quality and Daniella gave me the best massage i have ever had. The relaxation room was lovely and we spent most of our time in there. I would say it would be good for there to be a seperate more tranquil pool and not to be sat with the non spa guests whilst in a robe but i understand a seperate dining room is being currently built. Worth the treatments and if the spa expands definitely worth a whole spa day.

Fantastic experience: What to say about Odyssey Health Club? It has literally changed my life. I have always struggled with my weight and have never been truly comfortable with my appearance. I tried many gyms around Hertfordshire but always felt that the staff were not helpful, not knowledgable and quite frankly, inattentive towards all clients. I recently moved and decided to give Odyssey a go, what a difference! The staff could not be more professional if they tried. Every member I have spoken to has a high amount of knowledge not only with equipment but things like nutrition, how to help you reach your goal comfortably and all over customer care. The equipment is top of the range. All of them are loaded with programs that you can personalize to suit your needs. You can then watch a program on YouTube on each individual machine, have a game of cards, flick throuth Facebook or more to distract you enough to forget about the burn. The club also comes fully loaded with a café heated swimming pool, steam rooms, squash courts, tennis courts and much more that I still need to take full advantage of. Another huge bonus for me is the classes. Every gym I have been with previously charge for their classes / group session's. Not here! There are a number of classes throughout the day every day that are included in the small membership fee. I now spend three hours a day in the club taking advantage of everything I can. I have lost 11kg of fat, built up my muscle mass and got my confidence back. This has all happened in less than 4 weeks. That's more progress than I have achieved spending months at other clubs. I have never felt so comfortable working out and have never had so much help at hand to grab as and when I wish. I can not rate this place highly enough. If it all sounds too good to be true, book yourself in, have a look round and see it for yourself. It costs nothing to give it all a go. I am here to stay and could not be happier with my choice. Thank you to all the staff for helping me this far and I look forward to continuing my transformation at Odyssey Health Club. Max Taylor

Positive experience: More expensive than it needs to be for a basic gym/pool/spa setup but likes to market themselves as an exclusive members style club to justify
Hi Cameron, not sure you can call us a “basic setup” as we have the best facilities in the area by far. Couple that with constant reinvestment and improvements to the club, and a focus on first class customer service, and you’ve got yourself an amazing club for fantastic value for money!

Fantastic experience: Went with a friend here to have a spa day, and Megan was fantastic! I had a facial, massage, body scrub, and pedicure and she did a wonderful job with all of it. The Elemis product selection is fab and they do a really nice reward points system. Will definitely come back when I am in town!

Fantastic experience: What an excellent spa! I took my mum here for mothers day this Sunday and it was perfect. All of the staff from reception, the bar staff and the spa staff were polite, helpful and attentive and made the experience so wonderful. The treatments were amazing and the relaxation rooms was one of the nicest that I have been to. Already planning my return!

Positive experience: Used to be a member before I moved, well equipped high end gym, is a little pricey, returned with a free day pass to go for a run with some friends, so didn't use the equipment, but looked like they had some new stuff. Good choices for classes, racket sports available and a big pool and steam room.

Fantastic experience: Booked a Winter Warmer treatment with Charlotte and undoubtedly the best massage and facial I’ve had, she was very consultative and tailored my treatment to my needs, broke down some very stubborn knots and gave me useful advice on skincare. Will be booking again, and again!
Fantastic experience: We had such a lovely day from the moment we got there! Jane (yoga and meditation instructor) was amazing!! The food was soooo good and the massage was incredible, Stephanie(the masseuse) was soooo lovely and made us feel so comfortable. All round good day for the mind and body spa day! Fantastic experience: I go to Odyssey Spa at least three times a year to pamper myself. The massages are fantastic and I love the extra touches like the foot massage at the start. I always feel really looked after and super relaxed. The spa days are excellent value too and the relaxation room is so cosy. My favourite spa in Hertfordshire!

From the hello's at the gate to the friendly staff in the gym. A great health club for adults looking to workout in a relaxing environment with lots of options to choose from.
Fantastic experience: Pool is large, clean and well run with lanes suited to different speeds. Gym is very nice looking with fancy and well maintained equipment and knowledgeable and nice staff. Price is a bit steep, but is really worth it when compared with others such as David Lloyd.

I have had my eyebrows & lipliner tattooed by Emily several times & I wouldn’t go anywhere else. She is professional, knowledgeable & totally puts you at ease. Her portfolio of work speaks for itself.
