David Ross Sports Village is a world-class sports facility located within the University of Nottingham campus, offering a fantastic range of activities for all sports enthusiasts. The center features modern amenities, including a spacious gym, a swimming pool, and various sports halls catering to activities like badminton, climbing, and even martial arts. Users frequently mention the friendly and helpful staff, which contributes to the welcoming atmosphere.
Key highlights include:

Despite these minor drawbacks, David Ross Sports Village remains a favorite for many, valued for its extensive offerings and dedicated staff.

David Ross Sports Village: Opinions
Fantastic experience: World class sports facility. friendly people. brilliant vibe.
Positive experience: Not the easiest place to find by the postcode, could be better signposted, but a fantastic facility!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic facilities
Fantastic experience: One of the best place to carry out ur dream career in sport
Fantastic experience: Great facility/ amazing gym
Fantastic experience: Good gym. Plenty of equipment and spacious. Can get busy with students at times with it being on university campus though.
Fantastic experience: Very Smart Clean Sports Centre, with refreshments available to buy.
Fantastic experience: I went for a walk around university grounds what a lovely place into the sports village very surprised how big it is watched some kickboxing, badminton, wall climbing and about 100 people doing wyn chung all at a very good standard. Interesting to see and read all the trophy's Nottingham university has won in all different sports over the years, also first time I've seen the Olympic torch, I think I spent over an hour time well spent and enjoyed watching other people working towards their own goals, was amazed at all the different sports available from archery to table tennis to snocker tables,as I said very large sports village looks like a nice cafe aswell
Negative experience: Facilities are good for students but if you go for swimming its not unlikely to bump into a grumpy swimming pool guard who seemed unhappy (for unknown reasons) and showed an unwelcoming behaviour after him knowing that we need access to the open pool. Complete disappointment.
Fantastic experience: Was at the Scunthorpe Alphas American Football game
Fantastic experience: Superb facilities.
Positive experience: Good food and coffee at very good prices in the café.
Fantastic experience: David Ross has a great gym with up-to-date equipment. The staff are friendly, always ready to help with any questions. I use the gym, swimming pool, sports hall, and sand dressed pitch regularly without any issues. The changing facilities are always clean, and I have never had any issues when I have used the facilities.
Positive experience: Went for daughter's phD graduation ceremony. Large hall and well organised. Can't comment on other facilities as I didn't view them.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities. Really good value for money.
Negative experience: Congratulations to the powers that be for basically closing the disabled parking bays at the entrance for regular visitors for graduation ceremonies. I am involved as a PA with disabled clients who visit for treatment. Today (16/07/24) one client was refused a disabled parking bay, sent around the other side of building and told to park in a normal bay which was allocated as a disabled bay..No consideration of access to car from wheelchair..He was then refused access via closest door by security, despite inclement weather and sent around the long route. Vehicles without blue badges are now parked in the regular disabled bays. In previous weeks mini buses have been allowed to park in all the disabled bays without blue badges, when only half are for mini buses again causing issues and unnecessary hardship. The Showsec security officer on duty next to the parking bay was nothing short of rude, just telling us not to park here and "it's nothing to do with me" in a totally disinterested manner. More consideration needs to be given, it is surprising that it's not with the reputation the University has for inclusion.
Fantastic experience: Perfect exercise and swimming followed by fantastic breakfast and coffee
Fantastic experience: Brilliant facilities and really great staff (in the fitness suite anyway). A lot of reviews about it always being packed but the only problem time I've found is 4pm/5pm Mondays, Tuesdays where I've struggled to get equipment but not impossible. Actually chose this gym because its far less intimidating and overcrowding than Pure or Gym group. Also other reviews moan about people using something for 20 mins, everyone pays they can use what they want - they encourage sharing so ask if you can jump in between sets simple. Only downside is the same as any gym - not putting dumbells back and not wiping equipment down.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities for hockey!
Fantastic experience: The best gym has many activities that you can join. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Very big and clean
Positive experience: Table Tennis event. Quite busy.
Positive experience: Great sports center within Nottingham University campus - but need to think about a bit more parking!!
Fantastic experience: Superb sports hub. Well run and great staff.
Fantastic experience: Awesome. One of the best I've been to so far.
Fantastic experience: Great facility, friendly helpful staff
Positive experience: Train here with Team GB… great facilities and really nice design. Lovely spaces with a cafe too. But also the best facilities for multiple sports. Only thing I’d fault is the parking. I’d get there an hour early for anything and still struggle to find parking. Even at 7-8am the parking is a nightmare.
Positive experience: Went to watch the England national badminton competition. Great place
Positive experience: Great place to go for sports activities. There's plenty to do there such as the health suite, rock climbing wall and swimming pool. The staff are great and very friendly. The only issue is that the gym can become extremely busy and go over capacity, making it hard to work out.
Fantastic experience: Nice and clean work a good cafe where the prices aren't too expensive!
Negative experience: Nice enough facilities, but absurdly over-booked. Any time you're at the gym after 4PM expect kids swamped round each machine in packs of three or four and get ready to aggressively loom over them as they finish their sets because that's what they're going to be doing with you. Deeply unpleasant, uninviting atmosphere but what can you do, carphone warehouse not exactly been a household name in the past ten years so this is what they've got to do to make ends meet. Not recommended!
Fantastic experience: My wife uses the hydro pool in the sports injury clinic, the staff and students are brilliant
Positive experience: Had bad experiences because of the staff. First time the staff was rude. Second time was worse. I got inconsistent explanations from receptionists. I was told I could reschedule the swimming class that I have booked and paid so I rescheduled the last class only to come and got told I actually could not reschedule. After a long argument with the receptionist I eventually was allowed to go into the pool but couldn't really learn well bcs the pool was full of other learners at different level. Please make sure the staff have the same level of understanding of the terms and conditions.
Negative experience: Worst 260 pounds spent!! It's crowded everytime and people treat it like their personal gym they will be using a machine for 20 mins!!! Waste of time and money
Positive experience: One thing that can be improve is their sports booking website. It is very not user-friendly at all. Also activity equipment is not always set up on time, often having to look for staff to set them up.
Fantastic experience: Very crowded graduation ceremony. Got sick.
Positive experience: Had a graduation ceremony here. Lots of black curtains but plenty of space.
Positive experience: Impressed with the Davis Ross Sports Hall! Exceptional facilities and well-maintained spaces. The staff were friendly and helpful, creating a welcoming atmosphere. My experience here was enjoyable,
Fantastic experience: Great venue for sports events. There was lots of parking on the road outside of the building. You just have to get there earlier. The toilets are clean and the cafe has great coffee and sandwiches.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, lovely setting.
Fantastic experience: All good parking not too bad uni ACC good
Fantastic experience: University Open Day. Fantastic. Just a shame pool isn't bigger.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. Great facilities.
Fantastic experience: Has everything gym, climbing wall, swimming pool, tennis courts, 3G pitches, dojo, snooker, and anything else I would want.
Positive experience: Very large venue with huge tatami room for martial arts practice. Lack of parking on events.
Positive experience: Venue used for graduation ceremony. Spacious with adequate sitting
Fantastic experience: Great place, and it was an amazing day
Fantastic experience: Visited my sister in uni and went swimming at David Ross. Was really fun! Looks like they have fantastic sports facilities there too
Fantastic experience: Whenever I come for a sport tournament in Nottingham it's always a highlight when it's here because everything so just so lovely!!
Negative experience: Mostly good facilities, but the staff are very hit and miss. A lot have no idea what's going on or how to do their jobs. Also parking is tricky most of the time. If you do manage to get in and enjoy the facilities without interaction with the staff it's good though.
Positive experience: Parking is limited and the overflow carpark not signposted.
Fantastic experience: Excellent Sports complex within University of Nottingham campus. Ample parking, free for 30 mins for visitors and 2 hours for sports participants. Cafe inside with limited options for hot food.
Positive experience: My daughters swimming lessons in David Ross, and I will recommend it for anyone asking about swimming classes. But I give it 3 for some reasons. The car park most of time full and you waste your time looking for a parking also it is too far away from the main door. The other reason is the parent area it is small and some people put tables in it especially in the middle as they are in a cafe that's make it more smaller and not easy to move especially if you have a stroller. I hope if they remove the tables from there to make more space or think for another option.
Fantastic experience: Awesome venue for your sporting event!
Fantastic experience: State of the art sports Village complex with ample facilities like Gym, Swimming Pool, Badminton, Basketball, Football, Squash, and much more.
Fantastic experience: Great sports centre. Amazing scale. So many top class facilities.
Fantastic experience: I used the gym, it's well equipped and has friendly and helpful staff. The toilets and changing rooms are also nice. It has accessibility for wheelchairs as well as a lift
Fantastic experience: Great modern facilities with lots available and free participant parking.
Positive experience: Facilities seem good, but parking is a nightmare. People parking everywhere and some repeat offenders creating safety issues and traffic blocks.
Positive experience: Not good to turn a coach round near it inner roads in iniversity barriered of
Negative experience: good facility but gym is too small for this insane amount of members. absolutely ridiculous. Don’t recommend if u only going here for the gym.
Fantastic experience: One of the best sports villages I have visited. Everything under one roof
Fantastic experience: What a fantastic place, it is huge, There is everything going on over 3 floors. Even a lovely cafe. Staff are friendly. If you can't find a class or a sport you like at this place you never will. Get down there and do some exercise and experience the great atmosphere
Fantastic experience: Love this place! sooo huge with sooo many activities and societies to choose from! there's everything here - swimming, wall climbing, yoga, other sports like tennis, badminton, trampoline, so many more. and ofc there's a great gym! totally recommend getting a membership if you are a uni student and are committed to availing all the benefits this place has to offer! ✨✨
Fantastic experience: Top notch facilities, immaculately clean and plenty of equipment in the gym.
Positive experience: Excellent range of sports and halls and grounds to cater to them all.
Positive experience: Nice gym with good facilities. But god the people who go to this gym have a big problem with learning to put the weight plates back on the rack when done. I'm surprised at the lack of respect some of the students have for others at this University...
Positive experience: It's not a village in the sense that there is a small corner shop, a pub, a church and a butchers. It's more a community of athletes who probably should be spending more time on their degrees which they pay so handsomely for. But they do have cross fit classes there, so at least both definitions of 'village' still have idiots in them.
Fantastic experience: DRSV is a gem at UoN, providing world class facilities to train and grow. Wonderful staff and student volunteers to help you with anything.
Positive experience: I have mixed feelings about this place. I love it actually being here a few years and it’s the sports centre one could ask for…climbing walls, great choices of classes, swimming pool, gym, physio etc. Staff members are always friendly and helpful. It’s really great. Even during covid, they had great arrangements, guidance and stuff. However, I hate it during term time (which is most of the time)… it is ALWAYS packed. I mean always. I’ve tried to come in for the gym at 6.30am, 8am, 9am, 10am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm, 4/5pm, 6.30pm….during the week over a few months, and the only not so busy time slot was 6.30am on Sundays. If you do weight trainings regularly/routinely, and if you’re not too bothered by having access to other facilities, I recommend you choose another gym.
Fantastic experience: The sports centre was very well equipped, and there are loads of activities for those visiting the area even if they aren't members. The staff were very attentive and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Attended Aikido Summer School with Kobayashi Yukimitsu Shihan, 7th Dan, Hombu representing Inori Aikikai Aikido Dojo. Excellent venue, all sports, both inside and outdoors. Open early and closes late all week round
Fantastic experience: Went to my daughters graduation here, absolutely perfect!
Fantastic experience: An amazing place within the University grounds. Gym, restaurants and the hall for holding graduations. Just perfect.
Fantastic experience: Very accessible do hood gor our needs, can't really fault the place tbh, tricky yo find, maybe better signage from rd would help
Fantastic experience: Graduation was held here! Building is clean and the hall itself was a great Graduation venue!
Fantastic experience: Nice sports hall, although we went for a graduation ceremony. Hall had big capacity to accommodate all students and friends and families.
Negative experience: Extremely rude staff at the Club House Cafe. I’m sure the sports village could invest a bit of training for some basic customer service courses, would really help them out ;)
Fantastic experience: Great place and venue for events
Fantastic experience: Attended for daughters graduation fantastic facility. Well done to all the staff
Fantastic experience: Excellent sports venue but for large events parking could be an issue.
Fantastic experience: Visited on the notts uni open day and seemed like very solid new facilities.
Fantastic experience: This is an an amazing sports facility. Any student even vaguely interested in sport will love it.
Fantastic experience: Handball finals over the weekend, great atmosphere.
Positive experience: We do Tumble Tots here which is excellent. The actual village is very modern and clean with helpful staff and quality facilities. Only 'lost' a star because parking is atrocious: very difficult to get a space, impossible on match days
Fantastic experience: Top notch sports facility, equipment is pretty new and in good condition and the place is well kept overall. Staff are very friendly and helpful
Fantastic experience: Great venue for events and sport. University of Nottingham are lucky to have access
Negative experience: Purchase membership for one year. When you find that there are a lot of people at any time when you go there every day. And the equipment of the gym is very backward, like in the 1980s. The parking lot is very busy. You can hardly find a parking space at any time. I planned to cancel but was told that I could not cancel without refund. Don't buy members here.
Fantastic experience: It was my 1st time visiting the David Ross sports village and it was great experience.
Positive experience: Awesome sports facility in a beautiful campus. Wide range of sports catered for and the staff are superb!
Fantastic experience: Helping out on some intro to viewing sessions. Great venue, clean, well worth a visit
Fantastic experience: Fantastic sports centre. Clean, well-kept, a huge variety of facilities. We used the AstroTurf but could see how much else there was there.
Fantastic experience: Great Sports Hall. Excellent facilities for Students!
Negative experience: Turn back the clock, it's 1997 and leeds infirmary are operating on a baby to save his life due to a semi rare combination of heart defects. Fast forward it's 2022, and queens medical centre are going to get a new patient due to a stress related heart attack. This gym has fantastic facilities, a great gym with lots of equipment, fantastic sports halls, great squash courts, snooker tables!! But a manic car park for anyone who can't use it in during the day (when you know, they might be working). I regularly use the gym at 6.30am and have an abundance of options for where to park, but the dreaded days I actually have to go to the office and fancy popping in after work leave me with severely elevated blood pressure and a waste of 20 minutes trying to find a car parking space before making the dreaded journey home after a failed attempt of exercise. Why don't I rely on public transport? Well in the time it takes for me to get from long eaton train station our wonderful prime minister will have found a new mistress, got her knocked up and married before I'll be off the bus and playing with my shuttlecock.
Negative experience: Amazing facilities with one major flaw. It is insanely busy at peak times and I mean busy! After living in London for 15 years I understand busy gyms but this is busy on another level, with you having to queue two people deep for machines. Interestingly there is fully equipt gym downstairs which could but used by everyone at peak times but is currently reserved for the Universities Atheletes only. I counted less than 20 people using the space when there had to be over 300 people using the gym upstairs. Surely the Managment need to review their policy on how this space is used at peak times to ensure everyones experience is enjoyable and you can spend time training rather than queuing for equipment.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful facility with top-notch equipment and excellent customer service.
Positive experience: Fantastic outdoor pitches, but the reception staff are sometimes not cooperative, may be stern for no reason which is not acceptable.
Negative experience: 4 star hotel right? 1 star off for out of order lifts 2 stars off for broken toilet lock 3 stars off for out of order gym 4 stars off for a missing bed and not providing one upon learning this 5 stars off for the worst problem of all: the key card won't unlock your door, every hour or so you have to get it re-synced
Fantastic experience: Great place and the staff are always friendly and helpful. We go for children's swimming lessons which are good too
Negative experience: Was told I was unable to use the facilities (squash court) when accompanied by 2 paying members as their guest despite it stating on the website they can bring up to 3 guests for a fee of £6.50. was informed I could only use the climbing wall despite all 6 squash courts being empty (after we cancelled our booking)
