Fantastic experience: Old-school style gym with a big variety of equipment and friendly staff. Incredibly good value at £17.50 per month. I recently joined and have had nothing but good experiences so far :)

Fantastic experience: Great gym! First time I’ve been to a proper old school gym and it was mega!! £3 for a session which I’d consider a bargain. Friendly staff and other gym users. Been on and off with my gym training over the last couple of years this place has made me realise why I started - the bug is back! Got so pumped I could bearly open the door to Nando’s after. If you’re ever in Middlesborough you’ve got to check this place out!

Positive experience: Dirty but cheap

Negative experience: A decent gym wich was pretty good value but tbh I think I’d have ended up dirtier if I’d have got a shower ( they were disgusting) Also wasn’t keen on 3 of the people who worked there and went to the gym(no names)fancy ripping into someone after they’ve had a stroke.Shame on you

Negative experience: Worst gym I’ve ever been too workers are rude and sexist, women’s changing rooms closed and when I went I was refused to be able to work out bc of my “size”

Fantastic experience: Been obese/morbidly obese for the second half of my years and this gym and the people have seriously changed my life for the better. Everybody is friendly and willing to help, owner has done and answered everything he can for me to help me try and improve. Couldn't imagine going to a gym that isn't this one, don't want to. Looking forward to spending my years here and being the best I can be. ~noel

Positive experience: Andy Morgan training has been hard throughout my career it's been on and off. But most hard core I've ever been involved in is this gym steel city hopefully one day make a come back.

Fantastic experience: I've been a gym goer for most of my adult life... and it all started at steel city gym. I moved around a lot as an IT contractor in my early days... and you know that feeling you get where you yearn to be home??? At the end of the day middlesbrough will always be my home, and steel city gym will always be my preferred gym. The gym has maintained that old style with an excellent variety of equipment and professional staff who run this vibrant gym. I have vowed to never leave this gym for one of those new, flashy, posing type gyms... not that there's anything wrong with that, just not my style. If you're planning on joining a gym, give steel city a shot - I would highly recommend you try it, and am confident you won't be disappointed. Hope my honest review helps.

Fantastic experience: I rang up this gym for information and was very impressed with owners attitude he is clearly very motivated to other a gym that meets the needs of the local community is authentic and is easy going and down to earth .gyms like this are in a minority congrstulations i look forawrd to coming in soon.

Fantastic experience: What an absolutely brilliant gym. It has the old school Vibe to it that is a rariety in gyms nowadays. It has a boxing area and a massive weights section as well. The owner was a lovely gentleman and I could see the passion he had for his customers. 100/10.

Fantastic experience: The number one gym, nothing else even comes close, full competition powerlifting equipment, strongman area, competition racks, rogue plates, rare machinery, unbelievable community feel and vibe, not the mention the boxing gym within the gym itself, ignore all the pointless reviews claiming that it's "too cold" or "too loud". Everything is spot on, not to mention the owner Michael who will go out of his way to help everyone and anyone within the gym and always makes everyone feel welcome, read most of the reviews on here, they are all positive for a reason, I don't know what I would do or what direction my life would of took if I hadn't ever discovered the city and the people in it, eternal love for this place and the peeps in it.

Positive experience: As I'm in a wheelchair, my visit was limited, downstairs was dark dirty and gloomy reticent of an old boxing club. On the day the venue seemed to be open to providing food for the homeless and room for a music band.

Negative experience: Not clean . Too much crowded

Fantastic experience: I've been going to this gym for roughly two years and as a student I really like this gym. Much better than the student gym actually. Cheap prices, Very friendly and helpful staff, Awesome boxing area and a lot of equipment. As someone who was inactive and inexperienced coming into uni I'm happy to say this gym has improved me!

Fantastic experience: Best gym in town bar none. Full of serious lifters, always there to give advice and show you how, don't be afraid to ask. Great atmosphere and full of real lifters machines that make the difference. Fantastic value for money, you cannot go wrong. Steel City, where champions are made.

Negative experience: You will catch corona by going here, they don’t have any wipes for the members to clean the weights . And the staff don’t even clean them either. Apart from that it’s a nice, old fashioned gym.

Fantastic experience: Absolutly love training here! Have been for a couple of years now! All the staff are so so helpful always happy to help, the members are also friendly and happy to help. Definitely reccomend this gym! Also get some of the strongest athletes training here!

Positive experience: the prices are okay and flexible for memberships or one off visits. Music is piped though the sound systems extremely loud and you can hear it down the road a bit (gym is on 1st floor). The members I've spoken to have been nicer than expected, I say this because as a woman I find the place hugely intimidating as its so loud and testosterone filled. This is the only reason i have given 3 stars and not more. It is not like the chains of gyms that spring up this is a 'real' gym for those that are seriously into getting fit or muscle bound.

Fantastic experience: Recently joined here and they have amazing staff and a perfect price. Friendly people that are easy to speak to. No sign up fee bs or direct debits or anything. Boxing room as well with plenty of bags. 3 Benches and 3 DL platforms as well.

Fantastic experience: Best gym in Middlesbrough by far, and always has been. If you just want to train and are serious about it, then you won't find a better place in Middlesbrough to go. It's not about what you're wearing, what car you drive or how big you are, in here they treat everyone the same. Friendly staff, friendly members and some of the most knowledgeable people you will meet, regardless of your goals. The equipment is old but well kept and they're constantly improving where they can. As well as the cardio equipment and the free weight section, there's a boxing area, grappling area, tyre flipping and even atlas stones now. For less than £20 a month, I challenge you to find better locally, you just won't. Been training here for around 18 years, through different owners but the vibe has always remained the same. If you haven't been, give it a go. First session is free anyway and I would put good money on you joining that same day.
