Our comment from FitFit UK about High Sports Brighton:
High Sports Brighton is a vibrant and welcoming climbing center located in Brighton, United Kingdom. This facility offers a fun and friendly environment with routes suitable for climbers of all skill levels. The staff members are consistently praised for being helpful, knowledgeable, and encouraging, making it an ideal place for families and beginners.
Some highlights of High Sports include:
- Variety of climbing routes including top roping, lead climbing, bouldering, and auto-belays.
- Friendly and supportive atmosphere that fosters a sense of community.
- Excellent facilities, including a well-equipped training area.
- Regularly updated routes and challenges to keep climbers engaged.
However, some users have expressed concerns regarding pricing, stating that the costs associated with climbing, including harness hire and session fees, can be quite steep. Additionally, while the bouldering area has potential, some climbers noted a need for improvement in route grading and visibility of start/end markers.
Despite these drawbacks, many visitors have had positive experiences, highlighting the friendly environment and the extensive range of climbs available. High Sports Brighton has been described as a great place for both seasoned climbers and those new to the sport, making it a must-visit spot for anyone in the area!

High Sports Brighton: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Fun and friendly climbing wall with plenty of routes for all levels
Fantastic experience: Great centre and variety for all skill sets. Had not been myself for several years but the staff were very helpful with my son and me. Shame we do not live closer.
Negative experience: It’s very very very expensive for no good reason.
Negative experience: Ridiculous prices for trying to get young people into climbing! Took my 2 year old daughter for her first climb there. It cost me £19 for the privilege of being to belay her on a few routes! £4.50 - harness hire (ok is a fair price) £9.75 - off peak child entry... really... for a 2 year old!?!!!!!! £4.75 - belaying somebody (used to be about £1) As if anyone is going to pay that on a regular basis! You seriously need to reconsider charging babies the same price as able children and the belay only price is a rip off!
Fantastic experience: Visited once. Enjoyed it, friendly staff. Easy access though side entrance reception will direct you.
Fantastic experience: 1st visited here and loved it walls was great staff where friendly highly recommend
Fantastic experience: Great center, lots of equipment, lots of challenging climbs and really friendly staff! I highly recommend
Fantastic experience: A wall climbing haven.
Positive experience: Top ropes - 4.5/5 Bouldering - 2/5 Gym/Training area - 5/5 The bouldering area has great potential but gets a poor rating because: - Lots of routes missing start or end markers - Route grading difficulty is very easy or really hard, not much in the middle (5c-6c) which is the bulk of climbers. - Some routes have no visable grade mark except broken QR code - Grading for some routes printed on A4 piece of paper on one wall (lots of walking back and fourth) - No music - vibe was dead - Down climbing holds are similar colour to routes next to them - Route creativey was a bit meh compared to other gyms in the area. -
Positive experience: Popped in for a session whilst visiting the area. Wasn't charged the sign-up fee as I likely wouldn't be back more than once or twice which was very generous. Facilities were good, nice range of lead and top rope climbs. Could do with a couple more auto-belays, but the ones that were there had a good range of difficulties and styles. Bouldering area was very good, part of it was being set whilst there but what I climbed was well laid out and setting felt fairly consistent in difficulty within the various grade boundaries. Would definitely go again and be largely happy if it was my local climbing gym.
Positive experience: I have a bit of a fear of heights but trying to get over this I booked onto a family climbing session. The guy that took our session was really kind. Made it fun for the kids, let us go at our own pace and taught us how to get our kids into the harness and connected. Been a few times since and whilst I'm still only half way up the wall, everyone seems to be very friendly, staff check our harnesses every time. Quote a few auto belay walks, a lot of lead climbing and a small bouldering area.
Positive experience: Good facilities. Staff trainer was confused about how deliver targeted service
Fantastic experience: Great climbing gym, also have classes for 6yr olds
Fantastic experience: Great climbing wall with rope section and bouldering and free parking. The staff were amazing and really helped my daughter get the video footage she needed for her GCSE pe - can't thank them enough.
Fantastic experience: Enough climbable surfaces for everyone at any level. Staff were super friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Love it here. My second home. So lucky to have this excellent climbing centre in Brighton
Fantastic experience: Nice staff good routes
Positive experience: Lovely little climbing gym. Went with my partner and enjoyed the climb very much. The staff are very competent, run you through a detailed and effective safety test to check your proficiency before allowing you to climb. The gym itself is space efficient with lots of boulder problems, top rope, auto belay and lead opportunities, more than enough to keep you trying new things each time you attend. Only had two small cons. The routes are not that beginner friendly. While me and my partner were able to do more than half of the bouldering routes, with exception to the lowest grade, the routes may prove quite a challenge to newer climbers. Additionally, the lack of heat in the climbing area can be a little off putting if you take a break and are not keeping warm when not climbing. Overall an amazing experience and a great little venue. Would definitely recommend.
Negative experience: Unfriendly staff who clearly have no interest in climbing. I've visited several times and know a few people who have similar stories. The climbing itself is decent but the holds are quite old and the whole place could do with modernisation. Oh and this is not the place to go for bouldering, badly set holds which rarely get reset and holds are mostly ancient
Fantastic experience: Staff are knowledgeable and encouraging. Free WiFi and coffee and snacks in the main leisure centre if needed. Daughter working toward NICAS 4
Fantastic experience: My daughter loved climbing and the staff were helpful and friendly
Positive experience: Nice for climbing
Fantastic experience: Amazing! This wall has not been topped by my expectations by any other climbing walls. Personally I feel spoilt by this! It has awesomely tall walls, an awesome training area, rockbox(which is great for kids), membership is highly worth it! If you don't go here you are missing out! I could understand that it might be a bit boring for parents who are just sitting around but then maybe they should be watching the people that they came with!
Fantastic experience: Great climbing experience had by all. Fantastic facility friendly staff.
Positive experience: £6 registration fee - seems good The walls ok, the fees not, especially when you do it all online.
Fantastic experience: Good fun
Fantastic experience: Fantastic climbing party! My daughter and her friends had a brilliant time thanks to the team at High sports. Our leader was knowledgable, enthusiastic and made the whole experience fun but also safe! I highly recommend High sports for kids parties of 6. Fantastic team and facility. And I would recommend hiring the meeting room at Withdean straight afterwards for cake/games - this worked very well for us following the hour of climbing. Thank you Highsports team
Fantastic experience: Excellent instructor - good equipment - friendly atmosphere!
Fantastic experience: So much fun. The instructor was excellent, I felt safe and we really enjoyed ourselves. Cant wait to go back
Fantastic experience: Awesome place to climb! Lovely staff
Fantastic experience: Lovely sport centre
Positive experience: A great climbing wall centre. With facilities for everyone from kids/novices to experienced climbers.
Fantastic experience: Best climbing gym in Brighton! Great gym with friendly members of staff. This gym has epic climbing culture. The staff are helpful and friendly. Lots of psyche from staff and other climbers when I go climbing here. I love the walls, the sets are interesting with a beautiful mix of techniques and styles. Thank you High Sports Brighton and Hove Climbing Centre, you rock!
Fantastic experience: Nice rock climbing gym. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I would avoid going during busy hours as it can quickly get a bit overwhelming especially on club/school nights. Plenty of options including autos, top rope and sport routes as well as bouldering and a comp wall/gym upstairs.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic and very friendly climbing centre for experienced and new climbers
Fantastic experience: Bouldering, Auto belays, top ropes and sport climbing. Great climbing venue.
Fantastic experience: Great space where people are keen to share their passion in a friendly and empathic way.
Fantastic experience: Really great place to climb. Smaller than other centres but still lots of routes to keep you busy on a spot visit or regular climber. Friendly visitors and staff who were happy to give advice when asked. Also really good for kids from 4 years on.
Positive experience: Fun roped climbing including automatic belay climbs, a gym with spray wall and props and a small bouldering area. I go there for the roped climbing only
Positive experience: Routes are good and staff are friendly enough. However £5, JUST, to sign up on top of the entry fee made me hesitant to make the trip to the gym.
Fantastic experience: An amazing climbing gym for those looking to move on from purely Bouldering. The rock start course is as affordable as it is informative, and gets you immediately comfortable with belaying and top roping. A wide range of lead routes also, to prepare you for the outdoors!
Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed it, friendly staff and some really cool walls.Catering for all climbers too, lead, top-ropes, autobelays, bouldering and kids area too.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic hidden gem in Preston park. Lots of top roped, lead and bouldering. ~8 auto belays. Quite in the day, busy in the evenings. Recommended
Fantastic experience: Good soup
Fantastic experience: Good place for climbing and bordering. They change the routes regularly so it’s great. The booking app for climbing and bordering is really bad though. The staff is friendly, many kids are here for climbing as well. There is free drinking water and some snacks to buy from the reception.
Fantastic experience: Great fun, , really good instructors that give you the details and encouragement
Fantastic experience: Friendly helpful staff. Good climbs.
Fantastic experience: I only started climbing in January but have managed to go most Fridays since then and I'm really enjoying it. The staff and other climbers are all really friendly and there are plenty of routes for climbers of all skill levels, shapes and sizes to enjoy. If you are looking for a place to climb or do bouldering then definitely check this place out.
Positive experience: Really great climbing facility with lots of variety and everyone who goes there is super friendly. Easy parking at the Withdean complex and easy to get to from the motorway. The only bad thing I can say about it (if I really was pushed) is that it is sometimes too cold on there for my liking however I wear layers and I have no issues :-)
Fantastic experience: Best climbing centre in East Sussex
Fantastic experience: Brilliant instruction, fun boulders
Positive experience: High sports is better than it should be. A climbing centre in a sports centre is not usually a good start, and it does have an impact on the general atmosphere compared to a purpose built climbing wall. However, the routes are all well set, if a bit heightist (I'm 6.1 but find myself at full extension quite frequently), the community is good and the bouldering and training area is, again, better than you'd expect. Gradients on offer are varied. Ropes are in excellent condition. Instructors seem generally genial, trustworthy and well versed in climbing.
Fantastic experience: Amazing training area
Positive experience: Great place to go climbing however it don't feel like a community that's open to people joining it feels verry us and them when your their but the climbing is great
Fantastic experience: Highsports is a nice, cozy, friendly climbing gym. Good routes across a range of different grades and a helpful personnel and welcoming community. Would definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience: great place to climb, friendly staff, reasonable prices
Fantastic experience: Good climbing centre with friendly and helpful staff.
Negative experience: Website overly complicated to use. After trying to work through it, just gave up please sort this out. You are loosing customers.
Fantastic experience: Indoor climbing centre with free parking We go to pebbles lessons for 4 to 6 years old, good climbing lessons for young ones
Fantastic experience: Awesome wall.. I’m sure the managers a famous climber too.
Fantastic experience: The staff are always friendly and helpful. A well run place with plenty to do whether you're an experienced climber or just starting out.
Fantastic experience: Did the introductory course - really friendly instructor who was very patient with me and supportive as I am attempting to overcome my fear of heights! Have been back for some bouldering and looking forward to doing the rock start course. Really nice atmosphere in general and the other climbers were happy to help me with some tips and tricks to get me up my first v0-v1s.
Fantastic experience: Just had my first introductory session here and loved it. The centre is very welcoming and relaxed, and Tommy was a brilliant instructor who made me feel comfortable and made the session really fun. Looking forward to going back!
Negative experience: Wanted to take some non-climber friends here for the first time, but £19 per person for 2 hours of climbing (£11.50 2hr session + £3.75 shoes + £3.75 harness hire) is too steep. Even if you buy a membership for £55/month this doesn't even include kit hire as is the case for other climbing centres I've been to (Eg: Parthian). Not the best value for money.
Fantastic experience: My favourite place to relax and work out. Great place for all levels.
Positive experience: Decent set up though not as extensive for bouldering (my preference) as their main rival (mention no names ). Concentration is on top roped climbing, I just wish they hadn't closed the unit at Salfords.
Positive experience: Route setting was good, tye bouldering comp wall especially had some interesting problems. Desk staff were less than friendly.
Fantastic experience: Loved the comp Wall and was good to get back on it will most certainly be booking more sessions
Fantastic experience: Hi sport has lots to offer for people wanting to learn how to boulder to also high ropes where you can learn how to belay. I really enjoy it and it always a challenge as they chance it lot so really recommend
Fantastic experience: Everyone nice, Clean, Family friendly Climbing centre
Fantastic experience: Great place very friendly autism friendly
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and some great routes - definitely going back
Negative experience: There are quite a few walls within driving distance of this one. I'd check them out before heading here again. Staff didn't look like they wanted to be there, and it's not cheap.
Fantastic experience: Quality pub. With Tesla destination chargers, yey
Fantastic experience: It is excellent!!! Great atmosphere and staff too.
Fantastic experience: Super friendly staff. Hard routes to push you. Can't get enough of the place. Great energy!!!
Fantastic experience: Amazing leading centre, good training as-well (with a lattice board) however it’s a bit on the small side for bouldering. Good setting but a poor hold selection, quite repetitive choice of holds. Other than this the leading is amazing, and friendly staff as-well. Sofas and bag storage is big, and there are also some auto belays. Worth visiting!
Fantastic experience: Great climbing wall with lots of variety and friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely brilliant for a kids party. Great instructors and brilliant facilities. Any child (over 4) can get the hang of this really quickly. Little area available for parties too. Highly recommended.
Positive experience: Great facilities, really friendly and thoughtful people working there.
Positive experience: Fantastic climbing wall
Fantastic experience: Nice compact climbing centre. Plenty of lead and top-rope routes, bouldering, training area and auto belays for fun.
Fantastic experience: Went climbing here - a good setup, good variety of routes plus large bouldering area
Fantastic experience: Great team, passionate climbers and staff.
Negative experience: Climbing
Fantastic experience: My daughter came here for a climbing birthday. 16 girls and 3 instructors. They all had lots of fun and were looked after.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant Wall, unexpectedly good for a sports hall conversion. Worth a visit!
Positive experience: you could enjoy but trainer or carer help isn't offered
Fantastic experience: This place is pretty high. High up on my ratings! Great facility, friendly staff and one intense workout.
Fantastic experience: Great place with excellent coaching. Watched my grandson climbing which frightens the life out of me.
Positive experience: Really good, cheap place to climb. Lots of routes especially for lead climbing, nice boulder area as well.
Fantastic experience: High sports Brighton is the ideal top-roping and lead-climb spot in Brighton. With relatively easy access from the city center with the 5 and 5A buses, its a wonderful place to go and climb. Open until late, with very friendly staff, you can come at whatever time you please. They provide training and equipment (for a fee). If you have your own equipment, then you may climb at your leisure after having paid a decent price for the use of their facilities. I've been coming here for two years now, and love the atmosphere. The climbs themselves are fairly graded and there is always a challenge for any skill level. The bouldering section is not my favourite but many enjoy the difficulty it provides. The training area is also well equipped. I highly recommend this place.
Fantastic experience: Really good wall, bouldering,, top roping and leading. Challenging problems.
Positive experience: Friendly staff, several top rope and lead climbs and a section dedicated to bouldering.
Fantastic experience: Great 15m plus climbs they vary regularly and teach at all levels. Bouldering challenges are diverse from curved shark-fin hanging holds to spider wall and many overhangs. All grades and grip types. Squads train several times a week and are taught thoroughly through health from foods and exercise off wall to energy conservation during climbs and lead skills. Very happy with experience here. Thanks to the team.
Positive experience: Staff were nice and friendly, and the warm-up/ training facilities are great. Just a shame it's so cold, and seems had no backround music..
Fantastic experience: Really good staff And climbing walls
Positive experience: Well run and friendly. Good rotation and new climb routes.
Fantastic experience: Great rope climb and good staff
Fantastic experience: Friendly and welcoming. Climbs are reset regularly with a wide variety. Well worth a visit.
