Classes are designed to blend running and strength training, ensuring a comprehensive workout that many users find rewarding. The overall atmosphere is often described as friendly and welcoming, making it a great place for individuals of all fitness levels.
However, some feedback suggests areas for improvement. Issues such as crowded changing rooms and malfunctioning lockers have been noted, which occasionally detracts from the overall experience. In summary, Barry's London East remains a highly recommended fitness destination for those seeking an effective workout and a supportive environment, despite some logistical challenges.
Barry's London East: Opinions
Positive experience: Class was not bad. Boiler was broken and not all changing room lockers work. Reception team can come across as a bit rude.
Hey Kevin, So sorry to hear about your latest experience. We would like to discuss this with you further at [email protected] and see if we can make it up to you.
Positive experience: 5/5 for the classes and the staff are amazing and also really helpful. But - £26 a class is absolutely WILD. It blows my mind the tiny % of people that can afford this. It excludes 99% of the population, which is really sad when people are just trying to get fit and healthy. Very elitist pricing :(
Glad to hear you love the classes and sorry to hear you feel the prices are too high. We have a variety of prices and memberships where the classes are cheaper depending on the amount you purchase or the membership. These can be found over at www.barrys.com
Fantastic experience: Such kind & lovely staff!!! Amazing spot and great smoothies!!
Fantastic experience: Love this studio, amazing trainers and such a great workout. Cannot recommend highly enough
Thanks for the feedback!
Fantastic experience: Amazing workout and experience as always.
Positive experience: Good, but not as good as 1Rebel imo
Fantastic experience: Lovely instructors and front of the house service
Positive experience: Good class as always but fifteen lockers are broken and need fixing. Please fix them.
Positive experience: Smaller compared to the other studios. Friendly personnel but way too crammed in the shower area in between sessions.
Thanks for the feedback
Positive experience: I’m usually a regular at the Victoria branch and happened to work near Moorgate today so decided to give it a try. Whilst Jason was amazing as a trainer today, the changing room was small, and actually experienced very lukewarm reception at best and a very rude encounter with the housekeeping staff when asking her to please move in a very packed changing room and got scolded with “one second”, Barry’s experience is so much better elsewhere.
Sorry to hear about your recent experience and we will be looking into this. Thanks Barry's UK
Fantastic experience: Great workout. Definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience: Fun
Fantastic experience: Service good
Fantastic experience: Great workout with experienced trainers.
Fantastic experience: Great Barry's Studio right by Carnaby Street, friendly staff and great classes
Positive experience: Really intense class! A bit confusing for a newcomer as instructions are given to both running track and weight track at the same time, but still a cool experience. Wouldn't recommend it to people who are just entering a gym after a while without exercising, as there is no time or space for personal guidance or correcting of technique. Still a cool way to push yourself!
Thanks for the feedback! We offer treadmills and weights so no treadmill yet
Fantastic experience: Really cool vibe to get you motivated to work out. One day I will be able to afford this!
Positive experience: Entrance is on A501, not on Worship St. The usual Barry’s experience with friendly staff, clean equipment and spacious changing rooms. Incorrect location on Google maps meant I almost missed my class.
Fantastic experience: Really positive atmosphere and lovely coach!
Fantastic experience: Love the staff and trainers.
Positive experience: Overall a good experience at Barry’s! I like the music, nice pumping house music - and the workouts themselves are super intense. Great way to start the day. I knocked off a star because it’s hard to follow the instructor sometimes as it’s so dark, and the changing rooms can get super busy and hot.
So sorry you didn’t enjoy the experience! We provide free ear plugs at all our studios for those that would prefer quieter music
Positive experience: Did my first Barry’s class at the London East studio this AM. I liked the instructor but far too much talking, no breaks with the chat and extremely loud I now have a thumbing headache and may have damaged my hearing, please turn down the volume slightly? The shower queue took 40 minutes and lockers have more complex locks than the other Barry gyms. Unfortunate as I really wanted to come back again :( love the Victoria and Soho studio.
Thank you for the feedback and we apologise for your studio experience. We have our sound capped in all our studios and provide free ear plugs in case the sound feels too loud but we will look into this.
Fantastic experience: The team there and trainers are friendly, it' s clean and easily accessible. Classes focus and teacher styles vary, which makes every session a bit new, its quite nice. Loving it. I could not run as I hurt myself and it was completely fine to be walking on the treadmill, I did it for about 6 weeks. And I slowly recovered (their treadmills are really good quality). I am unsure about the choice of smoothies as it seems its all quite heavy in protein, I wish I could just take a nice juice with no added protein or almond milk or peanut butter but that' s probably the branding.
Thanks for the feedback and we will be sure to revisit our fuel bar offerings.
Fantastic experience: Fun workout, you'll be switching between weights and treadmill about 3 times and pushed by the instructors to your limits!
Fantastic experience: Best workout in ldn!
Negative experience: Barry’s is so past its sell by date. The equipment is old and basic (see the peloton tread for what good looks like), they can’t decide if they want to be a hardcore music class (it’s VERY loud) or an instructor guidance class (they talk constantly), and they still seem to think they’ll get 50 people to each class - in a room the size of a shoe box (they don’t there were 30 in my prime time class) Come on Barry’s 1) upgrade your equipment 2) reduce the number of spaces 3) give better and clearer instructions which align with the music. You might have been the first studio like this, but there’s now lots of better ones to learn from (1Rebel, Mile High Rub Club, Peloton to name just 3)
Fantastic experience: Had my first Barry’s experience today and thoroughly enjoyed it !! Great for beginners as they don’t push you to do more than you can. All the staff were super friendly and will definitely be sore tomorrow but in a good way !!
Negative experience: First time at Barry’s and having no warm up/stretch is very concerning from a fitness/health POV. Also very ‘mass workout’ structure to cram in as many people in as possible. Too dark and loud to know what’s going on. Staff pretty stuck and obnoxious. Seems to be a brand with a cult following that’s profit focused. Would much rather workout independently.
Fantastic experience: Barry's did one thing to me no gym or class studio had done before - got me doing exercises (with them) on a regular basis. All the staff, trainers are lovely and gorgeous.
Negative experience: The lesson i went this morning, was so bad. instructor was so rude, the music was also too loud. There is a small gym, but too crowded. they had to use more useful !!!!!!! Literally waste of time I don’t recommend to someone prefer this gym(another branch might be nice)
Positive experience: Not as hard a workout as 1rebel - I don’t feel as exhausted or worked out as you would there. Yet slightly more expensive - in order to justify this it maintains an air of exclusivity by having sparkly premises, upmarket locations, very personable service, and quite unique use of things like the elastic band. Treadmills work in miles which confuses most these days.
Thanks for the feedback and we apologies that the workout didn't push you as hard as you're used to. We tend to give a base weight and speed but lots of our fam like to use that and increase it or decrease it depending on their personal level. We'd love to have you back again lifting heavier and beating your PBs on the tread.
Positive experience: The music is way too loud-can’t concentrate without the earplugs which thankfully the offer. The layout doesn’t make sense for where the stations are, clear they just tried to squeeze in as many spots as possible. The 60 min class started late and ends early (always does) so you only get maybe 50 mins of workout in. I like the resistance bands though which is unique to this location.
Fantastic experience: Really good workout - but just wanted to say a special thank you to Honey! I've tried out quite a few instructors at Barry's now and Honey's class was by far the best. Really works you hard but she manages to get in so many fun quirky bits to the workout, that it makes it super enjoyable even when you feel like you can't go on anymore!!
Fantastic experience: Gotta say the trainers are so good and all the staff who work here too. Everyone who attends are also so friendly. Very low douche to finance bro ratio. Recommend coming here!!
Fantastic experience: Great service, top guy! Leo
Fantastic experience: The Barry's experience is pretty similar whichever studio you use - the red room, the HIIT running+weights class format, the little black towel, the changing rooms with amenities provided. This club ticks all those boxes but to be honest it is one of the more cramped/crowded London locations; the workouts can get steamy even with the fans turned on and the gents' changing room feels very crowded indeed during the changeover between 2 peak classes. Go to a quieter class during the middle of the day though and it's delightful.
Fantastic experience: There’s a place where all the hyper elite fitness people go at 7am on a Monday morning. It’s called Barry’s. Wonderful. Horrible. Devastatingly good
Fantastic experience: Insane workout, so fun!
Fantastic experience: I love Barry’s bootcamp and the crew in this one is so amazing. They helped me with my booking and you can order an afterworkout shake that is waiting for you once the workout is over. The workout is easy to follow but still very very exhausting. The shower area is quite small but does it’s job. The real reason however I am coming here is the cute dog who greets you and is the official desker
Fantastic experience: Great classes and the facilities are second to none
Fantastic experience: Best work out in the world, in the east.
Positive experience: Very nice but crowded at times since it's the only center is east london other than canary wharf.
Fantastic experience: The staff and trainers at Barry's London East are the best. They are all super friendly and professional. Love coming here for the best workout in London. Great way to start or finish the day
Fantastic experience: Had a brilliant experience at my first visit to Barry's. Will be a regular visitor from now on! For anyone hesitating about going, GO!!! Be sure to get there a bit earlier than the start-time so the lovely reception team can show you around. Achieved more in an hour than I would in two hours in a gym on my own - a great time saver and a real confidence boost. Thanks again, Team! (and the post-workout recovery shakes are unreal!)
Negative experience: I've done a few Barry's classes across London and have always had a positive experience...until today when I did the 11:15 class with instructor Sarah W. I went to 2 other friends, all of whom were less than impressed with Sarah's attitude. The start button is quite dark and hard to see in the dimly lit red lighting and one friend struggled to see it. The instructor was behind her at that time and snidely said aloud "did someone miss the induction??" The other friend had his phone on his treadmill showing his heart rate monitor and she told him he needed to shut his phone off. But what was most shocking was when the class was over she muttered "Ive never been more glad for a class to be over" which in my opinion is extremely unprofessional. We pay a fair bit of money to come take these classes and being met with that level of unprofessionalism could put anyone off. It was a bit of an unfortunate experience.
Fantastic experience: Love Barry’s although this specific studio has a weird layout which makes it difficult for the instructors to demonstrate.
Fantastic experience: This is the first Red Room that I have been to and have only experienced the audio workouts, but I love it!
Fantastic experience: Really is The Best Workout In The World! So glad it's open again.... Clean and safe and classes just as good as before don't miss out!
Fantastic experience: Best workout in the world!
Fantastic experience: Loved it Danielle is AWWWWWWESOME
Positive experience: Good workout, awful changing rooms.
Fantastic experience: Andre Bates's class on a Friday at 17:30 was probably the best workout I have done out of my new starter pack. Enjoyed the running part - really challenging. The floor in Andre's class was intense too but in other classes I have (probably not with the best trainer at the st.paul's studio) - the floor exercises weren't that great. Also tried Tee's lunchtime class which was excellent!
Fantastic experience: If you enjoy working out with others... You will love Barry's.
Fantastic experience: A sweaty workout is guaranteed!
Positive experience: Really good workout. Push yourself however much you like with the help of the trainers. Clean shower facilities and option to purchase protein shakes ready for after your class. The only thing I didn't like was when the instructor would occasionally dim the lights so low that I panicked on the running machine, as the buttons don't light up to know how to change the speed.
Fantastic experience: Best bootcamp exercise £23. Great services inside must attend
Fantastic experience: Showers don't work and the changing rooms are the size of a postage stamp, but the work out, teachers, staff, shakes, everything is amazing.
Fantastic experience: Love Barry’s! Ladies changing room doesn’t have much bench space and quickly fills up. Classes are amazing
Positive experience: Studio is a bit cramped and I feel like other boutique gyms now offer better classes with more variety and different machines (at similar/better prices).
Fantastic experience: There’s nothing better than Barry’s! The crowd is a great motivation! The best trainers and vibes!
Fantastic experience: My second time at a Barry's but the first time measuring my calorie burn. I was more than skeptical about the possibility of burning 1000calories in a single 50 minute workout even after having gone, however at 30 minutes after completing this workout as I type this, my burn is at 1044 cals and its not even lunch time! Very impressed with Barry's. Bare in mind this was taken on an apple watch which unlike fitbit which accounts for latent calories, it only counts active calories so on a fitbit you may find your burn to be more than double this figure.
Fantastic experience: Simply the best workout in the world!
Fantastic experience: I was only in London for one night and had heard a lot about Barry's Bootcamp so wanted to give it a go. From the moment I walked through the front door at 5:45 am right through to gingerly walking back out at 7:15 high on endorphins, every single second of it was a delight. As a keen marathon runner, it was nice to mix things up a bit and incorporate some strength training into my routine, and the environment of the red room certainly helped to make it (dare I say) enjoyable. Also, seeing as it was my first time, a special shout out goes out to all of the staff that went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and did well to assuage any questions and key bits of information I needed.
Negative experience: For the prices they charge, you'd think they could provide enough weights for everyone to use them, rather than having to scramble around looking for them while in the middle of the session. I sent them my feedback two weeks ago and they've not replied. The music is often dangerously loud - even when wearing the ear plugs they give you - which also makes it almost impossible sometimes to hear the directions from the instructor.
Fantastic experience: I have been coming to Barrys for a couple of years now and one of the main reasons I come back time and time again is because of trainers like Alex Castro. He takes time with clients to ensure they get the most out of every work out. He is encouraging and motivating. Would highly recommend taking his class!
Negative experience: My first work out here was great, yesterday not so much. I was booked in to the last class of the day and after being shouted at to hurry up in the changing room (we’d been in there 15 minutes) the staff decided to turn all the lights off leaving me and my friend completely in the dark. My friend felt her way along the wall to get out and ask them to turn the lights back on. No apology, nothing. Worst customer service ever!
Fantastic experience: When I first joined 3 years ago, I would have not run after a bus; but the Barry’s trainers slowly built me like a machine, re-wired my brain and muscles, and I now run marathons and ask for more. They helped me redefined what fitness really means and they turned me into a 40+ athlete. It comes at a price: they expect commitment and dedication and sweat from us (and they will tell you off if you don’t provide just that); but in return, the Barry’s trainers deliver awesome workouts, high energy, boosts of motivation. They all have different styles and expertise, so you can mix it up and never get bored. But if you want to experience the best of the best, aim for their Master Trainers and be ready to get hit in the face with 60 min of a masterclass of HIIT, every. single. time. My favourite trainers, for very different reasons: Alex Castro, Sam, Shannon, Jason.
Fantastic experience: Been going to Barry's since it opened here in the UK. Have to say it does what it says on the tin and has kept me coming back for more ever since. Big shout out goes to Alex Castro who is one of their top trainers, if not the best I have experienced down there who keeps me motivated, on track and coming back for more. Give it a try if you haven't already.
Fantastic experience: I wasn't able to run more than a mile before I started coming to Barry's East and I just ran my second half marathon last weekend! None of that would be possible without two of the best trainers I ever worked with: Alex Castro and Jay Copley. Just try one of their classes and you will see what I mean. Great energy (!!!), great music and great attitude from the first minute to last! They make waking up at 5am actually enjoyable!
Fantastic experience: One of the best classes to do for your confidence and strength. Alex Castro is one of the greats, and his technique, encouragement and humour gets me through it all. I also had some questions at the end of the class and he was so kind and patient x
Fantastic experience: Barry’s and Alex made me excel in my workouts. The motivational atmosphere during his classes made me push further and surpass my fitness goals. Great place for everyone that is looking for a hard training to be proud of!!
Fantastic experience: At the start of last year I was totally demotivated and a friend asked if I wanted to join him at Barry's East London before work in the mornings to see if I liked it. Had heard the classes were intense like nothing I'd done before but that the trainers were the best in the business. I tried it out and absolutely loved it. The 6am class is tough, I arrive tired, grumpy etc, but always leave feeling pumped and motivated. But in reality it's not the class that does this, it's the trainer, Alex Castro. He's motivating, funny, engaging and plays the most effective music to really get me pushing myself. Alex sees everything and is an extremely effective trainer who will correct you if you're doing something incorrectly or in a way that may put undue stress on your body. He also has a great rapport with new people and with those who go regularly. It was these classes that turned my fitness around and allowed me to complete my first marathon 6mths later. Finding Barry's and Alex is literally the best thing I did! Thank you Alex and the Barry's team.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic gym with fantastic classes and absolutely brilliant trainers. Must call out Alex Castro as THE best, most thoughtful, hardest-working & most motivational instructor at Barry’s Bootcamp. He is extremely talented in his approach and his technique to fitness, always managing full classes with extra care, and giving everyone in complete attention, correcting form, and more importantly giving the whole class positive motivation to keep pushing. He is the epitome of Barry’s Bootcamp and has the most diligent group following, hence why his classes are always packed - true testament to how incredible an instructor he is. He completely transformed my approach and understanding to fitness, and has always pushed me (and the whole class!) to the best of my abilities, while still having a positive, funny and caring approach in his classes. If Alex isn’t teaching I’m not going!
Fantastic experience: It's coming up to my 5 year mark at working out at Barry's (I think?! time flies when you're having fun OR speeding on a treadmill). In this time I have pushed myself physically and mentally and have made an amazing bunch of friends. The trainers who I have grown to know over the years, I also consider my friends. Alex Castro in particular has been a sensational trainer. Not only does he come and correct your form if you are doing it wrong but he also has time for a chat and a catch up on a morning, which is lovely considering I am normally 90% asleep at 5:45am. Aside from being a wonderful trainer in the red room he also orchestrated a 'Barry's Weekend' and took a bunch of us away to do an assault course. He really cares about the community and Barry's as a brand. Alex's classes are great for regulars but also great for first timers!
Fantastic experience: Best workout in the world!! The trainers are incredible and the culture is all about positive energy. Don’t let the price points put you off!!
Positive experience: Great Barry's , lovely lobby, changing rooms a bit too tiny.
Positive experience: Lockerrooms are a little cramped, as are the shower stalls.
Fantastic experience: Can't beat a Barry's workout
Fantastic experience: Unbelievable workout but you have to go minimum once or twice a week if you want to see results
Positive experience: I just had my first workout in this branch and I have to say Jason is THE BEST!!! The only drawback is that they don’t offer free shakes as the SW1 does♀️
Fantastic experience: My first time at Barry's bootcamp today with my boyfriend for a surprise he loved it We did the full body workout , wow what a workout I fully enjoyed my class Shannon was amazing. I will definitely be returning to his class. Best way to start your Sunday my body was definitely shocked but I feel great definitely recommend highly
Fantastic experience: High intensity interval training group exercise class. Excellent trainers and great atmosphere. Shower and changing facilities available. Fuel Bar prepares a variety of protein shakes for post-class recovery. Extremely efficient and engaging workout.
Negative experience: I am serious fitness enthusiast and have tried several high intensity/weight training classes accross London. I found the class I did at Barry's a real let down. The facilities are nice and modern, but that it where it ends. I got an "induction" which consisted of a trainer showing me how to turn on the treadmill. After that, the next hour consisted of the trainer shouting over music incoherently, swearing and belittling people, and checking his Facebook. At one point my treadmill was not working and he told me to get back on it, which could have caused injury. Also, the music was so manic, the trainer kept changing the track every couple seconds - it was not conducive to working out, and every other word out of the instructors mouth was f***. He also made a couple comments that I would seriously question in today's #metoo culture. The transitions between workouts were quick and there was not a lot of explanation of the moves, which again could lead to serious injury for someone not used to that type of workout. The trainer then ridiculed someone for not listening, even though it was impossible to hear what he was saying over the music. I think you can have a bootcamp style workout without the trainer swearing at you. There are a lot of other places in London doing this much better, with more positivity.
Fantastic experience: It's a HELL but it is worth it...not for those with cardiovascular problems!!! :))
Fantastic experience: If you are looking for a good hard work out.this is the place amazing
Fantastic experience: Best work out in London. You leave feeling really excellent from all the endorphins. The trainers are nice and do not have a military style as might be expected. The shakes are also very tasty
Fantastic experience: Hurts like Hell, but feels like Heaven once you’re done!
Positive experience: love the protein shakes
Positive experience: If you choose East London Barry's, book at Louis' class, I think he is best. Never book for Sarah. It was a horrible session. She definitely doesn't know much. Talks too much and you can't even focus on your exercise and all is a rush.
Fantastic experience: Great staff, always clean and the shower's always have fully stocked shower gels, shampoos and deodorants. My favourite teacher Sam S teaches here, highly recommend her early Saturday morning class !
Fantastic experience: Killer workout, combining cardio and hiit.
Negative experience: I don't know what all the fuss is about - the hardest workout in the world, really? Personally, I've sweated more and felt like I was working harder in bog-standard, no-frills spinning classes or when doing interval running training. Be warned that the instructions are minimal, and no one is checking your form when doing the exercises. The warm-up also seemed wildly insufficient. The instructor seemed kind of bored and rattled through the instructions. The induction for newbies was minimal - basically just two minutes on how the treadmill works. I guess this is geared towards City workers who want to cram as much high intensity exercise as they can into one hour. Not for me, I'm afraid. Overpriced, too, given the lack of instructions/advice throughout the session. On the upside, the shakes are delicious.
Fantastic experience: In a dark, dark part of east London (EC2A), there was a dark, dark street (Worship Street). And in the dark, dark street (Worship Street), there was a dark, dark building (Barry’s Bootcamp Building). And in the dark, dark building (Barry’s Bootcamp Building) there was some dark, dark stairs (Just Stairs) . And down the dark, dark stairs (Just Stairs) there was a dark, dark training studio (I’ll stop now) . And in the dark, dark studio (Seriously I’m done) 40 hardcore fitness freaks sweated their b*ll*cks and t*ts off We had loud pumping music and a PT called Connor (The birth child of Brad Pitt & Hulk) screaming constant motivation at you through a microphone (so everyone knew when I was flopping). We did running stuff, really fast running stuff, then weight stuff, really heavy weight stuff, then did it all again. Because Connor said so! Serious training fun! If getting up early on a weekend and basically killing yourself is your kind of fun. #fitfam #gainz #strongereveryday #muscleman That’s what the Instagram crowd say about this place Insta - @david_richard_james
Fantastic experience: Such a tough workout. Make sure you are fairly confident with basic weightlifting as you are not always given form readjustments. However it's a challenging, rewarding hour that goes so quickly!
Fantastic experience: The best workout in the world? Allegedly... It's always a delight working out at Barry's - the community is amazing. Inspiring trainers, lovely staff and a good workout - the combination works wonders :)
Fantastic experience: One of the best workouts in London
Fantastic experience: The most efficient and fun workout in the world. They will push you to your limit, but that's what you're paying for right? ;) Recommend Anya, Connor and Faisal.
Fantastic experience: You have to love Barry's. Indeed the most effective workout. I managed to burn 1000 calories last time. I lovs the energy. You start with a warm up on the tredmill, then go the floor and alternate between those for an hour of hell - but you will leave feeling newborn :)
Fantastic experience: Love a good Barry's workout!
