Fantastic experience: Currently doing my velodrome accreditation here and the track coach is great and I'm really enjoying it. Certainly recommend giving it a go if you've never been on a track before. Having cycled for years, this is my first time on the track and I'm hooked.

Negative experience: Tennis courts are booked up by members that never show up to play on them. There's no penalising people that don't show up. Courts go left empty which is frustrating for avid tennis players. This has been an issue for over 5 years and management have done nothing. Regards, Usk Tennis Club.

Fantastic experience: I just wanted to say a huge thank you to Jo, who has been my adult swimming coach for around two months now. Due to having aquaphobia from an unfortunate previous experience, I could not get into the shallow water without tensing/freaking out and therefore having the anxiety of drowning. 10 weeks later, I now find myself jumping into the deep end and doing things I never thought I could achieve when starting my lessons. All of this is to prepare myself for the Royal Air Force; my ultimate dream! So, I cannot express how thankful I am for Jo's patience and determination for me to do well. You have really made a difference and play a huge part in my success needed to achieve my dream. Thank you again, I am extremely grateful for what you do! Paul

Fantastic experience: Have been a member here for nearly 5 years now, love coming here. All the gym facilities at the velodrome are perfectly suited for everyone. All staff are friendly polite and knowledgeable, and always on hand if you need advice. Since re-opening after both lockdown and the firebreak, the Covid safety measures in place make me feel very safe and protected, a lot of hard work from the staff to get it all right for us participants is very much appreciated.

Positive experience: Been a user and member for nearly nine years. Travelled around the block a few times and from my past experiences I have no complaints about Newport Leisure. The staff's willingness to assist, (even the referral team will help non referred users) their knowledge, politeness and professionalism. Took a look at the new gym in tennis center, impressive. But unless the music volume comes down you won't be seeing me there An inside bike parking area would encourage bike use I can understand the changing rooms etc being closed but the "in gym" security lockers ! See photo. People, especially senior ones forget to pick things up. Leaving valuables in car, no. Leaving phone at home, no chance even for this 72 year old. Simply by supplying a disposable food bag would solve the contract problem Unfortunately the email I sent last Monday 17th August regarding the security lockers and food bags remains unanswered. I have had two missed calls from Newport Leisure. Usually a sign no record is wanted of the response. Disappointing

Fantastic experience: Son and friend thoroughly enjoyed the induction programme. Great start to indoor track. Fantastic facilities (including vending machines), very clean and staff very helpful.

Negative experience: They have screwed over Newport Table tennis and forced them to leave by constantly raising prices!!

Fantastic experience: Have participated in many galas here over the years! I like how the changing area has open as well as cubicle showers so you don’t have to be around everyone. Also has plenty of changing cubicles which are usually very clean. - Easy access into the pool from the changing village and the downstairs area - also where the swimming scenes from Sex Education were filmed which makes swimming here a lot cooler now

Negative experience: paid for my membership and was looking forward to this until i realised that i couldn't fit through the barriers. The picture below is of what i look like now.

Positive experience: My first visit to this gym in 4 years and absolutely nothing has changed except the equipment is more worn. Functional rig with only one decent punch bag and extremely dirty looking worn steam room. A very weak exercise class timetable! Parking is extremely difficult at times due to outside activities.Great gym staff!

Positive experience: Simply can't beat cycling in circles. I had a long wait to check in due to some odd financial transaction with the person ahead of me. And I had to search for the hire bike guy. Otherwise, it's all clean, well maintained and well-appointed.

Fantastic experience: It's got all you need - I joined for the group cycling classes (aka spin) - but joined under the full membership scheme, giving access to all the Live venues, including pool, tennis, badminton courts and gyms. Staff are excellent. The ICG setup on the bikes is amazing, it knows how much friction you've got on, so there's no place to hide - as well as bluetooth to your phone, and if you're brave, then your individual distance and output is displayed for all to see in some classes. There's a huge screen showing scenes you pass by, all adding to the effect.

Positive experience: A bit too hot while doing activities

Positive experience: Thought putting me on the high wire without a net on my first day was a bit much, as I was 100 ft up she couldn't hear me say I needed a wee. She took one ladder away to use as a stretcher, for the poor man next to me who fell, I took his flask which I had a wee in. Air conditioned throughout, very clean facilities no cleaning fluid to wipe sweaty equipment so bring a pocket hand sanitiser. Pool is fantastic and constant 30 degrees and OK for small children but supervised. They do classes such as water zumba, all ages shapes and sizes come here so dont be conscious, very relaxed atmosphere. Every piece of equipment you can think of, they have it there. Knowledgeable staff on hand although a little thin on the ground. The best / cleanest in Newport I feel.

Negative experience: I purchased vouchers for the velodrome taster sessions for various people for Xmas and only on completion of purchase do you find out that the track sessions are only available on a Monday 4-5pm and a Wednesday 5-6pm. There was no indication that there were such limited sessions on the website. When I phoned to ask if there were going to be sessions at the weekend so my friends and family could actually use their vouchers I was told that there probably would be but they couldn't guarantee it. When I then asked for a refund because I felt I had been mis-sold they said they wouldn't provide a refund. Extremely disappointed by this unprofessional service. I was looking forward to recommending the velodrome to my fellow cyclists, unfortunately I've now I had to tell them all to avoid this velodrome which is a shame.

Positive experience: On the whole, I've found that the staff are terrifically friendly, though the reception area seems to have more security than most banks these days. Quite why they need to be sat behind a glass screen is beyond me. The lack of catering facilities in this place is hugely disappointing. I had to schlep over to the nearby tennis centre for a coffee. It's a shame because I seem to be spending a fair amount of time at this venue at the moment. My teenage daughter cycles on the track. And when she's here, I'm here. For hours. And I'd happily spend money just to relieve the boredom of waiting for her next race. But the only option appears to be vending machines. On the upside, the track centre of relatively easy to get to and there's loads of seating with a great view of the track. On the downside there's no natural light. My daughter tells me the track is fast and that they usually get the temperature right. There's a fair amount of parking at the venue though it gets busy when competitions are on. But no one seems to pay much attention to the creative parking that then results. I'll have to be back at this venue again. It'll still have no catering facilities. But the staff will probably still be lovely.
