The Gym Group Handforth Wilmslow

Positive experience: Good gym, good equipment and suitable for a range of people, from casual gym goers to the more serious. Good selection of machines, cables, free weights and racks. Downside - parking is inadequate, it fills up when the gym is at around 30% capacity according to their app. And there is no parking nearby. And they removed cleaning stations for environmental reasons, so it's now impossible to clean the equipment between users.

Fantastic experience: Big space, plenty of well maintained equipment and not too busy at any time, very good for the price.

Fantastic experience: My gym since 2022! Wide options for different machine set and weights, Friendly stuff. Expect to be full on early mornings as most people do their workout before going to work.

Fantastic experience: Very up to date. Makes the other GYM GROUP gyms feel a thing of the past. They need to upgrade more gyms. Enjoyed my workout.

Positive experience: Nice clean gym for a reasonable price and lots of classes to choose from. It’s ridiculously busy at times though and you have to wait to use most machines apart from the treadmills, which I think is quite common with these gym chains. The issue that brings the rating down really is the parking availability. There are nowhere near enough spaces and all the surrounding roads have double yellow lines as far as I can tell. Twice this week I’ve just had to give up and go home, so not getting my moneys worth and this is very unhelpful when you’re trying to get fit. I don’t work within a reasonable walking distance so have to drive there. They really need to do something to secure some extra parking spaces for their customers, even if this means having an arrangement with a neighbouring business. I’ve just got home from the second day in a row of not being able to find a space, and I’m not at all happy. If this continues I’ll go elsewhere.

Negative experience: Smelly. Dull atmosphere and no cleaning equipment. Dont know why they used the word robust cleaning equipment because when i was there the bike was sweaty. When approached the manager he shrugged his shoulders and said the cleaning station been taken away for atleast 2 months now. Shambles.

Negative experience: Joined and was initially okay with things. Until they decided as part of an “upgrade“ to take away the cleaning stations . The person I spoke to mentioned that the gym would be cleaned twice a day instead. It’s a 24 hour gym so there are 12 hour periods between cleans where I’ve got to hope that I can find equipment that’s not covered in sweat or bring cleaning supplies with me to the gym. Unacceptable especially after COVID-19. Cancelled my membership

Fantastic experience: Clean gym, always got equipment available whenever needed. Any repairs are dealt with quickly and you’re always updated with repair progress. If you’re looking for a PT then Jenna is awesome. She’s down to earth and understanding of your goals, but also pushes you to what you didn’t think you could achieve!

Fantastic experience: Gym is clean and spacious so you do not feel that you are stepping on others toes. I PT with Jenna who pushes you like you want and also supports you in your goals away from the weights.

Fantastic experience: Really good gym. All the equipment and classes you could need, clean and super friendly Team. Have worked with a couple of PT's in the gym in classes etc, and both have been fabulous, so a shout out to Harriett and Charlie for their knowledge and motivation. I somehow even enjoy spin class here ... Only downside is parking, can be a bit of a pain when busy, but that's not the staffs fault so still giving a well earned 5 stars to the team.

Negative experience: Bruh why would I ever pay £27 a month to get an inferior deal to puregym just down the road? I pay £24 a month, get 24hr access (not just off peak), pay no joining fee (a greedy twist-of-the-arm that demotivates newcomers I personally feel), AND get unlimited flavoured vitamin water. Up your game.

Fantastic experience: Charlie is a fantastic PT- I joined this gym purely because Charlie instructed classes here. I love her classes and small group PT sessions- friendly, fun and effective. However I also find the gym to be great value, pleasant environment, convenient opening hours, really good range of equipment and good range of classes.

I didn't know what exercise to do until I started these sessions and now I am back to exercising confidently and regularly. The equipment on offer is excellent and the sessions are empowering. Fantastic experience: The Gym Group Handforth is so welcoming, clean, airy and spacious. A vast array of equipment to suit everyone and a great selection of classes available throughout the week. Very competitively priced and well worth the money. They have lots of personal trainers on hand and Charlie Hussey is in my opinion one of the best. Her small group PT sessions certainly put you through your paces and challenge you to meet your individual goals. Her spin classes are brilliant too and great fun. Highly recommend.

I booked a block of PT sessions with Charlie Hussey, who has been great and got me doing different things each week which is just what I needed. I've also been doing spin with Luke Taylor which I am really enjoying, having always hated spin previously!

Fantastic experience: For me The Gym Group at Handforth offers everything you need to achieve those fitness goals whichever way might be right for you. An array of equipment and classes, in a bright and airy facility with friendly fellow members. There are Personal Trainers at hand to help you achieve your aims, my personal favourite is David Mason who has tonnes of experience with clients of all ages, with different needs and goals. He gives a comprehensive, holistic approach to assessment, mobility and training including nutrition and sleep advice. I can highly recommend him if you’re ready or just thinking about starting your fitness journey!

Positive experience: I’ve been a member for 2 years. Easily accessible at any time, felt safe at all times, would like to see a ladies boxing class this is overdue!! More power/ weight lifting specific classes otherwise great!

Fantastic experience: Joined gym a couple of weeks ago and really enjoying training here. The gym has a brilliant variety of equipment, everything you need. The staff are very friendly and make you feel very comfortable. I like that it is open plan and you can see all the equipment, so you don't have to walk into another room to then find the kit you wanted to use is taken. Good price too. Nice and clean aswell.
