Positive experience: The pool and jacuzzi are warm and cozy but the whole pool area is in desperate need of an update. Also, the last couple of times I've been the sauna has been our if order. I used to come here as a non member fairly frequently.. I couldn't commit to membership as I was caring for my parents and there would sometimes be weeks on end where I couldn't come. So I was always happy to pay the £6 fee as it was generally quiet on a week day and so I didn't mind that it was a bit small and old fashioned. It's been a few months since I came but I came recently with a friend and was really shocked to find the fee was £12! Double what it was before. Also, we arrived just after 8pm and no one mentioned to us it closed at 9.30 so we were kicked out the pool just after 9. I was honestly really disappointed, especially after bringing my friend there.

Negative experience: Not child friendly. Very clicky snobby atmosphere. There are lots of negative comments about children.

Fantastic experience: Such a wonderful discovery, rare to find independently owned Gyms of such calibre. There are incredible & varied facilities from the gym, spa, swimming, toning tables to hair dressers and more, Super friendly and personable staff a cafe and a lovely location. Really enjoy going (and I drive an hour from the borders of Cornwall to do it) Keep up the good work and congrats to the owner!

Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere in this place

Fantastic experience: You could notcwish to meet more friendly and helpful people than those at the Fort. This does not just mean staff. The whole atmosphere is so relaxed and easy that I am comfortable with my solo attendance which I do not say lightly.

Negative experience: Nothing special. The swimming pool was over crowded and smaller than it looks in the pictures. The steam room, sauna and jacuzzi was good. The gym was very clean but didnt have the usual weights/machine I normally use. I took my daughter as it was her first time too and we were restricted on what we could do. This should have been more clear on the website for the use of gym times and swimming pool hours for a 14 year old. For that reason alone I won't be going back. £18 and we were in there for just over an hour. Disgraceful. I wouldn't join as thr monthly membership prices it way too expensive.

Fantastic experience: Came for a quick treadmill hike while here visiting family. Used a free day pass from a member. Great little place. All the equipment is modern and clean. No faulty equipment. Everything in its right place. Nice and neat and tidy. Good little cafe to go into afterwards too.

Fantastic experience: Held my baby’s christening here, though the kitchen can be quite finicky if you don’t have their food. The bar staff and events team are great to work with and easy to communicate with too! Very accommodating ✌

Negative experience: Recently cancelled my membership here and thank god I did as much as there are some lovely and great staff members also people that go are very nice there are some staff that can’t be bothered to do anything and quite frankly let the business down in my opinion with their rudeness and arrogance. Also has to be noted that the membership I was paying was a monthly fee of £45 which isn’t too bad but when you go in for classes especially after spin classes the floors are riddled in sweat which unless you clean up yourself will be left on the floor this wouldn’t be a problem however some classes require you to do exercises on the floor so you will be exercising in another persons sweat. So yes all in all not a bad gym but like anything a few people that let it down wouldn’t recommend it over any other gym. Kit and equipment is dated and also in the summer prepare to dehydrate as when you dare put any air con or fan on staff members turn it back off again not ideal work out conditions even when mentioned to staff they still did this. The gym does offer a good range of classes though. In reply to your points yes you may have been waiting for a part but your fans still worked which when turned on got turned back off by staff members. Also gym equipment may well have been renewed however other kit like boxing gloves desperately need updating as they are old tatty

Positive experience: My local gym, has great facilities but there hasn't been a time in the past few years we're ALL of them have been working at the same time. Also need to improve drinking water facilties.

Fantastic experience: This is such a great place to workout. It's got a fully equipped gym, pool, fitness studio, toning zone, squash courts, and also has an onsite hairdressing salon, beauty treatment rooms as well as a cafe and bar with conservatory and outside balcony with views toward Plymouth. There are classes for everyone any age, turtle tots for zids, aqua zumba, adult only swim sessions, over 50's fitness, boxercise, dance fitness, pilates, yoga, the list is endless. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, I highly recommend it.

Fantastic experience: Great gym, classes and cafe. The swimming pool is very warm, which is wonderful for babies and small children. I've been here for years and enjoyed different classes. There's a thriving squash community here that I know nothing about and swimming lessons that are well taught and organised.

Fantastic experience: Started membership here for myself and my teenage Son mainly to use the Gym facilities. Although not the cheapest option for Gym membership in Plymouth i think it is worth it. The Gym instructors are friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic, nothing is too much trouble for them and there is always someone on hand to offer advice if needed. Its a pleasure using this small but very friendly gym. Whether your fat, slim, fit or knackered out this Gym will always make you feel welcome ! The Fort also has a comfortable lounge/cafe area which serves alcoholic and non alcoholic hot and cold drinks and snacks. If I had any gripe at all I would be hard pushed but it would be nice if they could extend the Junior gym times maybe slightly for Junior Gym members, especially at weekends as their time slots are very limited and short for the price we pay and weekends is never overly busy. Hopefully they can maybe take this comment on board. Thanks Fort Stamford for helping me and my Son get fit, keep up the good work !

Fantastic experience: Great facilities! Really fun spin class on a Saturday morning, and very convenient and chilled cafe/dining area. Doing everything they can to mitigate any covid risk, such as temp checks, special cleaning program and air systems in all rooms to keep it fresh and disease free, it really put me at ease.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic facilities and amazing staff. Did a few spin classes; Emily is a brilliant instructor with lots of energy and the class flowed very well - was also very challenging. The owners are lovely, so welcoming, and have adapted to covid extremely well.

Negative experience: Your general experience here will depend largely on what members of staff you deal with. Some of the staff cannot do enough to help and others cannot do more to make you feel unwelcome

Fantastic experience: I joined Fort Stamford after a 6 week sizzler session, & now joined the membership. I been coming now for just over a couple of months. I am very impressed with ALL the very friendly, courtious staff. They are very helpful & nothing seems to much trouble !! Fantastic experience: I take my little girl swimming most Tuesday s she loves it. its a little dark but it makes it a calm relaxing environment and she not scared as there is only ever us there, no old kids splashing around, it's clean and tidy and everyone seem lovely, it's little expensive if your not a member but I only use the pool for less than a hour as she only 1 and half, shame they don't do a offer for just swimmimg, coffee bar is lovely too very clean and relaxing. Would always recommend this place if you need to get out the house for a while with the babys swimming and theres a play fort aswell need little work but does the job

Positive experience: As a whole Fort Stamford is great. Staff are very friendly, the facilities are fantastic and clean, in general things are well maintained, but there are a few problems. One- there are multiple lights out around the pool and in the gym, this has been like this for a long time and needs to be dealt with. Two - there is rusting , of the steel around the jacuzzi, which has now stained the walls. Thirdly - As a customer, "member", I expect good customer service throughout the gym, this is usually what I am met with. It is a shame that staff have been made to turn away people looking to play squash, especially young people. I believe this is because they want people to start paying for coaching, but coaching is not what I want, I just want a competitive knock around. Apart from these three very manageable things, the gym has a lovely ambience and is a great place to get in shape and relax.

Fantastic experience: Fort Stamford Gym Health & Fitness Club as changed my life. I needed to take charge of my health and wellbeing but could not be bothered. After a visit to the club I was inspired by the warm friendly feeling I received as I was shown around the club. I started going to the gym 2 days a week in February I now go to the gym 3-4 times a week and have encouragement from my Trainer Cara, I use the swimming pool, jacuzzi and steam room to help relax after a hard workout. Regular reviews and friendly encouragement has helped both me and my wife Trish to socialise and enjoy being active for ourselves and our own well being. The restaurant is flexible to individual needs and always friendly. Reception offers a warm welcome and a smile after a workout. Nothing is too much trouble, Well done !

Fantastic experience: Having been a member for about 15 or more years I've seen the steady improvement in the facilities here to it's present high standard. In addition, the general atmosphere, which is both helpful and extremely friendly, is refreshing in this day and age of "there it is , get on with it". However, as the membership consists of: "approximately one third aged 60+ (Royston's recent statement) and a large number of squash players, I would like to see the the provision of a defibrillator within the building with, of course, the relevant training in it's use provided to all members of staff. I hope that this is something that will be addressed in the immediate future. This facility has recently been introduced in both local and national sporting venues and I know of 3 persons who would not be with us today if a defibrillator had not been at hand and a person with the confidence to use it.

Fantastic experience: I only use the pool. The pool and surrounding area are always sparkling and a pleasure to use. Being disabled I use the disabled changing room and this area is always clean and well maintained. The staff are friendly and always very helpful. Fort Stamford is a great place to be a member of and it is a pleasure to go there

Fantastic experience: I joined this gym a few months back and I love it! The facilities are brilliant, enough to use when at busy periods. The sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi are of high standard and the classes are great. I haven't been into the bar yet, however it always looks welcoming. The staff are always happy and friendly - which is great! :)
