Lee Valley VeloPark: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Great health and fitness centre! Came here by chance as my usual gym was shut, was pleasantly surprised by how big and elaborate the equipments are there. The staff were helpful and I stumbled across some personal trainers there and they seem very professional. Well worth the 5 stars!
Negative experience: I was disappointed with the treatment I received from some of the reception staffs. Unfortunately, they came across as dismissive and unwelcoming, particularly if you don’t fit the mold of an 'elite cyclist.' While I understand the need for policies and protocols, basic courtesy and kindness should never be compromised. A little more effort in making all guests, especially new, feel valued and respected would go a long way.
Fantastic experience: Nice park with easy access. Joggers and cyclists heaven.
Fantastic experience: A lovely open space with plenty of seating
Fantastic experience: Have a good view from anywhere in the arena. Lively environment. Worth a night out.
Negative experience: Can't hear the commentary at all in the center standing room and the toilet facilities are terrible. There is a labyrinth walk to the toilets and they are tiny.
Fantastic experience: Anything cycling, please go there and feel the atmosphere.
Positive experience: Track taster with flying lap was fun. Great to be in the hallowed track of the 2012 Olympics. The session started with some training then a bit of a free for all before the flying lap bit. It was good fun but I learned a lot more at the Herne Hill Velodrome taster. However if you just do one you really ought to see the Olympic one!
Fantastic experience: Had my first time on the road track the other day. The staff were very helpful and the rules are fairly intuitive. Since I went in the middle of the week and in the middle of the day I was lucky enough to have the one-mile circuit to myself. There are toilet and locker facilities on-site as well as a water fountain next to the track to fill up. Also, if you want to buy some bars or liquid, there are a couple of machines by the reception, which is situated on the ground floor. A very enjoyable experience
Positive experience: Beautiful architectural building. Just a shame the organisers have acquired the British obsession with barricades. Far too many unnecessary barricades all over the place, preventing proper promenading! Oh to be allowed to circumnavigate the whole building in peace and without petty interruption...
Fantastic experience: Can’t rate to place more highly, great facility, professional on ever level, wish ever better centre was like this.
Positive experience: Good experience, however multiple people showed up late and we had to wait for them to even change and faf about.. instructions clearly read come ready to ride and 30 minutes before or you won’t be allowed. I guess some people feels entitled and there are no consequences from the venue. One of the riders was recklessly overtaking people but no warning or anything was issued.
Negative experience: Reviewing the Better Gym - Unfortunately just doesn’t live up to the expectation that was left following the closure of the East Village gym. Significantly less equipment packed into a tiny space. Just poor choice of location with half of the equipment outside. The East Village gym was starting to look tired and they managed to make a brand new facility seem older. What a shame
Negative experience: That’s so BAD. l was come to the gym this morning(6:45-7:30). But when I go to reception, the main door didn’t open. I go around the whole park but couldn’t even see any entrance. The website also can’t find any close information. When I try to contact the centre, the customer service line couldn’t find anyone. What the wrong with there If you want shut down the park just that me know and refund my money back!!!!!!
Negative experience: Reviewing the Better Gym - I assume the gym was forced to move premises to make way for housing but this location is not fit for purpose. The gym is a third of the size of the old EV venue and missing lots of equipment. Even the location within the building is annoying - having to walk to the opposite side of the building going through 2 entry points. The equipment is squeezed into small rooms with barely any room to move between areas. They billed this as a 'state of the art' gym - clearly this phrase has lost all meaning. What exactly is state of the art? Management knew how bad this solution was so upgraded everyone's membership to UK - however only the Copperbox gym is close by and that is probably even smaller with several stations out of order. Shambles.
Positive experience: Amazing modern velo drome which hosted the London Olympics 2012. Offering gym for the public, cycling lanes, a café, wheelchair accessible entrances and lifts, baby changing facilities, baby chairs, women’s and men’s toilets, changing rooms, and much more. Super beautiful architecture inside as well as from the outside.
Negative experience: Reviewing the Better Gym - Awful new gym opened up. Closed down the old East Village gym which was spacious and had equipment. New gym doesn't even have enough spaces between the benches in the far room to walk between. I almost tripped multiple times moving out of people's way. Barely any machines compared to East Village. If they claim more machines are still to be delivered, ask them where they'll put it. There's not an inch of space left for anything else and all the machines are cramped already. They offer a membership to the Copper Box as well but that's just as bad.
Negative experience: Review for the Better gym. The old East Village gym shut down with zero communication from Better and current membership is now valid here instead. It’s half the size and missing a lot of the equipment, squashed into crowded side rooms on the opposite side of the complex from the entrance. Some equipment is bizarrely left outside which won’t be practical in summer or winter. I will be seeking a refund on my remaining membership.
Hi George, We appreciate your feedback. We're saddened to hear you didn't receive the communications that were sent throughout April detailing the membership upgrade to access all 250 Better UK venues including Lee Valley VeloPark and Copper Box Arena due to the closure of Better Gym East Village. We would be happy to resend these and would like to reassure you that our team are here to help so if you have any frustrations or concerns and you can contact us at [email protected] Work is still in progress on the outdoor gym space which is due to be fully completed later this summer and we are waiting on a few deliveries of kit for the indoor space so hopefully, when you return to Lee Valley VeloPark you will have a better experience. We look forward to welcoming you back to Lee Valley VeloPark.
Fantastic experience: Amazing place, lovely staff and spotless clean. Went through Queen Elizabeth Park which was very long walk, then realised it was a left from Stratford station 10 mins.
Fantastic experience: The BMX track along with the staff and coaching is excellent, and a lot harder than I remember it being
Fantastic experience: What a venue. Watched a friend do a cycle experience on the track. An impressive building.
Fantastic experience: My son took part in the BMX biking activities in the half-term. It rained all day but that did not curb his enthusiasm. He said the coach was great. Will be going again
Negative experience: I have been coming here once a year for the last 6 years for a track day. This was the first time I noticed it was now operated and run by ‘Better’. Maybe just co-incidence, but this is the first time I have noticed a deterioration in the service. The management of the day was not as good as normal, and I have a few bits of follow up. I have tried to call them, but then go through to their call centre, then to be put on hold, then to be cut off… It is a shame - every time Better get hold of anything, it gets worse…
Fantastic experience: I've been here to watch the UCI championships here twice, and recently visited for a track experience session. All 3 occasions have been brilliant. Stunning venue, and the staff are amazing going above and beyond what's expected of them.
Fantastic experience: Went to watch friends doing the cycling experience on the track. Great value. Comfortable and warm for spectators. Lovely coffees from the coffee. Friends thought the cycling was great. About 10-15 minutes walk to Westfield and Stratford station from here. You get parking included in the cycling experience though.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Amazing, world class facility. Offers trial sessions and clubs sessions in track, road, bmx and off-road. Extremely good value for money
Fantastic experience: I just casually walked up as I saw a cafe sign indicating free entry with views. Good coffee and choice of accompanying food. There happened to be what appeared to be Velodrome track practice going on, which was a bonus, strangely relaxing to watch!
Fantastic experience: Did the velodrome and BMX experience it was excellent really enjoyed both parts and the instructors were really helpful in both
Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed the track day experience. Really patient teaching and great fun to test yourself against the clock afterwards. Went with people who weren't confident on bikes and they got up the banking. Well worth it and so much history in the arena already.
Fantastic experience: Bikeworks All Ability Club is excellent. Experienced friendly Instructors and an amazing fleet of adapted cycles
Fantastic experience: What a fantastic evening we had at the finale of the UCI Track Cycling Championships. Fun, entertainment & competitive international racing bundled together. Results were fantastic too! Thankyou Lee Valley VeloPark. #laragillespie #ucitcl
Positive experience: If you like the cycling then you don't need to be told to go here. Great atmosphere and event. Seats are small, food and drink is expensive but I guess thats expected at these places. I haven't been to watch the cycling at other venues so no reference but I'll be coming back. Would be nicer if security weren't so aggressive too...
Fantastic experience: We visited the Velo park for the UCI champions league and had a great night. The atmosphere was electric with the sounds pumping and the light shows and projections on the track really mind blowing. The venue was busy but never felt overcrowded with easy access to facilities and queues for the bar that meant you never waited for more than a few minutes. The racing was incredible, the speed of the riders in real life is unbelievable! The crowd got behind the GB riders and raised the roof when they won. Leaving the venue was a piece of cake, no need to queue and a short walk to the DLR to get home. Can’t wait to go back!!
Negative experience: Disgraceful that the place will give out plastic cups in return for a deposit just adding to more plastic instead into the environment. No water fountains like you find in other sports venue again adding to plastic and trash into the environment. Expected much better from the venue
Positive experience: Expensive cafe. Prefer to bring my own food. Great opportunity to view cyclists using the indoor track or become a member to ride yourself in circles.
Fantastic experience: Been wanting to ride this velodrome for a long time & so glad I now have.Incredible experience, very friendly and helpful staff and coaches with no egos towards novices.Great facilities, great equipment for hire, very reasonable prices and easy to get to by all forms of travel.I will definitely return
Fantastic experience: Really impressive structure inside and out
Positive experience: Lee Valley VeloPark is a cycling centre located on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, East London. It has received a rating of 4.5 based on 291 reviews. Positive Aspects: The velodrome is great fun, a must for any cyclist, with plenty of scope for all levels. The track outside is smooth, technical and surprisingly challenging to ride fast. Good cafes are available. The track experience is excellent and the coach was enthusiastic, carefully looking after individuals of differing skills levels. Negative Aspects: Some visitors found the BMX circuit disappointing3. Please note that these are subjective experiences and may not reflect the experience of all visitors. It’s always a good idea to check the schedule and availability before visiting. Enjoy your visit! ♀️.
Fantastic experience: What a brilliant place. The team were very welcoming and helpful. Riding a fixie around the corner banks is no mean feat but well worth it.
Fantastic experience: Being a cyclist, I am incredibly fortunate to have such a venue so close by. Staff are friendly and informative and I’m looking forward to going through full accreditation!
Fantastic experience: Brilliant venue and track experience, amazingly friendly staff all round from reception to the coach. Went to the cafe before the cycling and the women there were lovely, helpful and hilarious. We went there having heard of vegan hot chocolate and weren't disappointed, it was very tasty. Great selection of drinks and snacks.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant venue for track cycling experience, fab cafe, friendly staff, iconic look and history from the Olympics/ track champs league etc.
Fantastic experience: Great to watch cycling, Informative staff
Fantastic experience: Another historical place visited as I rode from Hoddesdon to Stratford olympic village. Very well maintained and functional velodrome
Fantastic experience: Great place to ride to increase riding endrance
Fantastic experience: Have used both the road course and mountain bike trails multiple times and they are fantastic. The road is immaculate and good mix of fast straights and fun corners. Good mix of difficulty in the trails with the highlight being the three big descents of the hill
Positive experience: A spectacular indoor cycling track where we enjoyed free access on a July Saturday afternoon. The reception staff were very friendly and we were surprised by how quiet the stadium was inside. It was enjoyable to watch the cyclists' training. The café was open and thd toilets clean. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience.
Fantastic experience: Only one part was open when I went there that was Caffè.Not allowed cycle around the building. There was a board saying cyclists to dismount.Nice place with great engineering.
Fantastic experience: Attended as my son was running a half marathon ..he completed and raised nearly £1000 for prostate cancer. I had a look in the velodrome and it was very impressive.
Positive experience: The receptionist was really helpful. Cafe staff was a bit on the slow side, considering I was the only one in the queue. Nice to sit and have a quiet moment watching the bike practise.
Fantastic experience: Attended a birthday party here, and the kids (8year olds) loved it. Lunch options satisfied the kids too. The staff were friendly and attentive at reception, during the cycling activity, and in the cafe area. Would highly recommend this place as a unique birthday party venue.
Negative experience: Very unpleasant experience at reception. I live close by and walked over with my 2 boys (8 and 5) to enquire about events for kids. The place is really great and facilities look fantastic. However the whole experience was overshadowed by an extremely unpleasant conversation at reception. I innocently walked over to enquire about kids activities. The lady at reception first looked me over and seemed annoyed that I was even speaking with her (makes me wonder what else she is there for?) When I asked her about the kids activities, instead of simply providing information on what activities my kids to attend, she was more interested in emphasizing the point that if parents say their kids can ride a bike it’s not necessarily true! In the whole discussion she rolled her eyes several times and looked me down. She actually even asked her colleague to back her up who was surprising polite and clear; and gave me the information that I needed. When I expressed that I was finally happy to have the information I needed, she was annoyed and said “he just said it in a way you wanted to hear it”! I would love to get the video recording of the whole interaction and play it to this lady’s boss. How can someone who is sat on a desk to provide assistance to customers be so rude and condescending?! I hope someone actually calls her out and publishes her name in a review like this.
Fantastic experience: Phenomenal facility in a good location. Caters brilliantly for road, track and BMX at all ages. Staff are really helpful and nice people.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic!! We visited on a Sunday & were able to go inside & watch a few cycling races.
Fantastic experience: I received exemplary service when I visited the VeloPark as part of a corporate event with ‘Armis’ in November 2022. All members of staff were extremely hospitable, generous and afforded me a warm welcome. I would like to give particular mention to ‘Dahir’, who went ‘above and beyond’ in assisting me. He generously gave up his time to direct me to the changing rooms and then afterwards to the cycling track. At lunchtime, when I wanted to find a place for prayer and contemplation, he again helped me out by providing me an ideal location. From arriving to departing, I had a great experience and am grateful for everything. This will live long in the memory. I can’t wait to return and look forward to the exceptionally high standards experienced during my first visit. Thanks.
Positive experience: Kids party, kids enjoyed the BMX track although only one member of staff for up to 16 children made it hard work for her. Staff really friendly and helpful. Food was cold and not very good, fortunately I fed my kids first. Nice spacious environment.
Fantastic experience: A completely different experience to road biking. Great venue, top class facilities and super friendly staff enable a very good experience. Under 10 mins by walk from Stratford. Literally everything can be hired, including bike, helmet, gloves, shoes.
Fantastic experience: UCI Track Champions League. A great evenings racing.
Fantastic experience: Enjoyed the racing and you expect food, drink to be high. However had a very nice Open Buddha Burritos but was taken by surprise as to how hot and spicy it was. Also had a nice Coconut Hot Chocolate and it was good to see they have a good choice of dairy free.
Positive experience: Visited for UCI track champions league. Possibly a bit critical but here's why not five stars despite what's clearly the best track cycling facility in the UK. Entry was a long walk to far entrance despite being free to walk around once inside, and no congestion! Our seats only just nearer the far end. The sound system wasn't that easy to hear announcers, and there was no commentary. Beer and food was pretty tasty, if limited choice and at the high prices you expect.
Fantastic experience: Great night, velodrome is excellent. Pay £1.00 for the beer mug, which you can keep. Plenty of places inside to get food/drinks. Very warm inside. Seating near to each other which is a pain for getting up for the loo!
Positive experience: Very impressive cycling venue But food and drink utterly extortionate No phone signal or working WiFi in the building so no one could download the apps the announcer kept referring to The cycling was great, but the rest was underwhelming
Negative experience: WARNING: They will throw you unopened food in the bin before you enter! Then sell the exact same food for 3 times the price inside. Me and my Dad visited last night to watch the UCI Track Champions League and was very annoyed that I had to empty my bag for them to throw 3 bags of sweets and 2 cans of drink in the bin. I understand if it was opened food or burgers and chips. But these were snacks for us to eat whilst we waited for the race to start. All in all, we had a good night and the venue was beautiful.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic atmosphere, racing ,facilities. Well marshalled. Good links to Stratford Stations . Make sure you go to the correct one for your return journey.
Fantastic experience: On arriving at the VeloPark the building is a beautiful work of architecture, at night it is lit up and definitely eye catching. It is across the road from residential apartments but near to some major roads so easy to access, however is coming from Stratford station it’s probably best to catch a taxi which is just a £5-£7 cost. There is some parking on site but I didn’t drive there myself, there is also disabled parking available too. The entrance and exit are right next to each other and clearly visible so you know exactly where to go. Inside it’s clean and fresh and very modern looking, loads of seating and for those of you who are lucky enough you can get access to the centre circle which is in the middle of the track itself and the riders race around you. There are plenty of places on the premises where you can buy food and drink including a cafe and clean bathrooms too. It’s very bright and plenty of staff available to assist visitors. Overall a great experience and highly recommended. #VeloPark #LeeValleyVeloPark
Negative experience: Given a voucher to Velodrome back in 2019. Should have used earlier, but Covid then fractured hip. Most organisations have taken a realistic view, but Velopark will not honour the voucher (even if I pay any inflation costs). Very short sighted, and hardly a way to gain an expanded 'fan' base
Positive experience: A very good place for a lot of different things. Easy to navigate (doing things such as finding entrances and exits was really easy) and because there are different events running it's very versatile as an events arena.
Fantastic experience: First experience in the velodrome. Was able to hire a bike and shoes. Instructor was very helpful. I really enjoyed it and look forward to going back
Fantastic experience: Visited velodrome over the weekend. I wasn't aware of so many various activities you can book here. They have a mountain bike track, normal bike track, you can book group sessions and also I have noticed they have little area to teach small children to cycle. Definitely worth visiting.
Fantastic experience: Great place and staff so accommodating as we had issues with our booking which they remedied at very late notice. Highly recommend the Velopark taster session, two very happy offspring!
Fantastic experience: Flippin eck. I was impressed by the talent on bikes but this is an incredible venue. Too hot on the day but what a place to appreciate some incredible talent. My bucket list is to fix my bike but not sure it can handle those curves
Fantastic experience: Came here for the Commonwealth Games 2022 cycling, visited on the 30th July. Fabulous venue, very well organised with great staff who were all friendly and helpful. The track is awesome, the racing was fantastic with a quick turn over of events. Beer was good with no queues. Just wish we didn't have to walk all the way around the venue to leave, apparently done for crowd easing.
Fantastic experience: What an excellent venue. We visited for the first of the Commonwealth Games events and what a great venue to be at. The food options are well set out, yes a fraction expensive but you have to support the venue. There are water stations we’ll set out throughout the venue. There are plenty of toilets well spaced out too. Looking forward to coming back soon.
Fantastic experience: Commonwealth games event ruined by organizers closing the outlets 20 minutes before the event ended so most people couldn't get their souvenirs etc before going home... Lost opportunities, great seats, and good choice of food
Fantastic experience: What a day. Staff very helpful. Morning track taster session. Scary at first, but by the end of the hour we were overtaking and riding on the blue line. Very hard work. Afternoon BMX taster session. After being given a long sleeve top and long bottoms we were taught how to ride standing up, the ramps, pumping, the berms and the start ramp. Hard work, but by the end I had ridden the whole track a couple of times, with only a couple of hiccups.
Positive experience: Nice venue, very warm inside though. Facilities were good. Adjacent playground was very popular with grandson.
Fantastic experience: Visited for the Commonwealth Games. Well organised, great views and fortunately no serious accidents while we were there.
Fantastic experience: An amazing venue. Our seats were right on the start line and had a great view all round the track. We were lucky enough to see Laura Kenny score gold at the Commonwealth games. The applause was so loud it nearly took the roof off. It was very busy at the bars but the queues were kept moving by staff who worked quickly to take orders and keep things moving. Great place, great atmosphere.
Positive experience: First time in the velodrome. Nice venue. Good toilet facilities. Food and drink available... But very limited choice. We visited on a warm day and it was stifling. No air conditioning or through air. No cold drinks available... All 'cold' drinks were being served lukewarm in the heat. Shame really.
Positive experience: Great. Good seats, plenty of space. Bit hot and fusty - a very hot day but the fresh air feed didn't quite cut it
Fantastic experience: Commonwealth Games Cycle ng. Fantastic to see the live cycling events especially the Keirin. Amazing atmosphere and excitement. The facility is great with good food and drink outlets. Also have chilled water dispensers to fill your own bottle. Can get very warm inside.
Fantastic experience: Very good transport links, easily accessible and quite good food and beverage outlets within the venue.
Fantastic experience: Enjoyed seeing the cycling at the commonwealth games.. Make sure you wear light clothing as the temperature is kept at 26 degrees!
Positive experience: Awesome venue. Attended here for the Commonwealth Games cycling (2022). The staff were really friendly and helpful, the venue itself was clean, the chairs were relatively comfortable and the views from most seats would be pretty good. The only reason for a mark down is that the air conditioning system fails the guests in the higher seats. It was remarkably hotter in the top area compared with the lower area.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic event and really glad I finally made it. Unfortunately I missed ticks here for the Olympics so when I found out the commonwealth games cycling would be at the velodrome, I needed to get some tickets. Fortunately I managed to get a couple and it was fantastic!!! Due to rail strikes (great timing) I decided to come down on my motorbike. Parking was however limited but managed to negotiate my way into the nearby hockey stadium. I guess public transport is the easiest way to get here. That aside, access was really good and the volunteers were very helpful. The velodrome itself is really good inside and the view is excellent. I would definitely recommend anyone interested in cycling or sports visit this venue. It's iconic and a great day out!
Fantastic experience: Great experience for the commonwealth games. Smooth process for entry and staff were helpful. Lots of free water fountains which was needed!
Fantastic experience: Part of the legacy from the 2012 London Olympic Games. A well-apportioned cycling track is open daily with reception services, an upstairs snack bar, and plenty of tables and chairs for quiet reflection. Outsides there are lots of Santander bikes available for rental.
Fantastic experience: What an amazing place to visit. Awesome facilities - who knew you could actually book taster session to go around this famous velodrome! Well worth a visit and the surrounding parkland is superb too
Fantastic experience: Brilliant experience with the taster session. 45 mins on the velodrome track and then 45 mins on the BMX track. Hats off to the BMX boys, that was hard work. Great time. Clean and spacious. Good friendly and helpful staff. Recommended
Fantastic experience: Did the track experience. Staff were great across the board. Got everyone on the tack and enjoying it without any pressure. Enjoyed the cafe after too
Fantastic experience: I've never seen a Velodrome before firsthand so found it interesting to see. There was a taster session going on which looked like fun. The Olympic Exhibition was very good too.
Fantastic experience: Big space, beautiful layout, inside and out. Lots of seats, comfortable. Bar and toilets well kept. Staff are welcoming and dedicated.
Fantastic experience: Great facility. From your first ride right through to competing at the highest level.
Fantastic experience: An amazing building that's even more impressive when you get inside. We visited on a testing day and the atmosphere was still amazing. Well worth a visit even if you're not into cycling. 10/10
Fantastic experience: Went there with my cycling club, West Kent Road Club, for a two hour session with a British Cycling coach. Great fun and a very good experience, cycling on the boards that so many famous cyclists have done before. Fabulous facility.
Fantastic experience: Can’t speak too highly of the place, had a young child with me and was treated like a princess. A great facility that i should have visited earlier.
Fantastic experience: Did the track cycling experience with a flying lap - absolutely awesome! They do a good job of incrementally building your confidence to completing fast laps of the track including a recorded time. A must-do for any keen cyclist
Positive experience: Great place to get a coffee and watch the riders. I hope to try out the track one day.
Negative experience: On Friday we emailed the team at the VeloPark to confirm that we would be able to use the Road Track at 10am on Sunday morning. We were advised that this would be fine. Having travelled for some time, we arrived at 10am on Sunday, we were told that the Road Track was closed until 4pm. A very disappointing experience
Hi Thomas, we’re sorry to hear you were disappointed and if you were given incorrect information however we can’t see an email from you so unsure who you spoke to at the venue. On our road circuit page, we have our weekly calendar which details the opening hours which we advise all customers to check before travelling to the venue. Please check this before your next visit to ensure you can ride.
