Positive experience: Would like to leave a higher rating but struggled a bit visiting this weekend. A lot of kids in the centre and a lot of staff also, so space became a bit of an issue. Quite a few instances where I'd be trying a climb and have kids climb or get too close on the ground also, and the staff didn't seem to be very concious of how their kids classes effected other climbers - felt a bit like I was interupting a summer camp. I've seen a lot of gyms cordern off sections for kids to avoid these issues which might be an idea here. Good looking climbing centre though, the cafe and spaces around the wall were good and I enjoyed the setting.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant bouldering centre. Top class setting, hold variety and training area. Comfortable area to sit and relax/enjoy refreshments as well as a small shop/library with an endless supply of psych inducing climbing magazines. The loos and shower are spotless, the climbing area also feels clean and open. Friendly and helpful staff to top it off!

Positive experience: Great vibes and facilities, and really friendly staff. Looses 1 star as ventilation could be better (no opening skylights so heat gets trapped) and quite expensive - 15 quid!

Positive experience: Great bouldering gym- very tightly run, well set routes (with consistent colour coding). Some really interesting walls too, and a preponderance of challenging overhangs. Catering is fine, service can be a little slow because the reception and kit hire is also the coffee shop, but the staff are friendly and helpful.

Positive experience: Amazing bouldering gym, best I've been to so far. Unfortunately, the visit was marred by inappropriate behaviour by a colleague. As far as problems, layout and quality, it's a spotless gym and seriously enjoyable

Fantastic experience: Booked a 1.2.1 climb session with Marisa to try and get my head around techniques and how to climb and would definitely reccomened it. I learnt a lot from the session and feel confident to return independently and learn more from trying different climbs. If you're new, I would recommend a private to learn the basics. All the staff were really lovely and an open, bright space. It also has a little cafe and is well laid out. Plenty of parking. Visited on a weekday, and there were people climbing, so it's obviously a popular place.

Fantastic experience: Amazing centre! Friendly staff, a large variety of walls and solid route setting have come together to bring great bouldering to Tunbridge Wells. The routes are changed regularly to keep the avid climbers entertained, and I feel the entry price and shoe/chalk hire are very reasonable! Well kitted out and kept clean, this centre has everything I could ask for. 10/10 will come here every week.

Positive experience: Great venue to be introduced to rock climbing. Seems to be well supported, which is a good sign, as it has been busy each time we visited.

Positive experience: Chimera has some pretty challenging route setting that’s fun to crack but watch yourself as they can be risky for injury. It’s a great place to push your boundaries but can get packed quite quickly as it’s on the smaller end of climbing gyms I’ve visited. The entry price is the most expensive of all gyms I’ve been to and when comparing to others I don’t think the experience reflects the price. Nevertheless, still worth a visit!

Negative experience: We drove 40 minutes to get to chimera to be told that our 5yr old children couldn't climb. Nowhere on the website did, or does it, say that Saturday afternoons are over 12s only. The frequently asked questions says children over 5 are 'absolutely' welcome, and the opening hours are just given as from 9/10am. Two very disappointed children and two cross adults! Really poor compared to other local climbing offerings. Would highly recommend parents try Volume 1 in East Grinstead instead.

Positive experience: I visited last week and intend to go back again. Here are my first impressions and my perspectives. Pros: - Great, friendly, front of house staff - Pretty quiet during the day, so you can get a lot of climbing in - A good mixture of easy to difficult routes - small gym as part of the fee - plenty of parking - 2 walls set every week, very frequent. - competition wall looks very professional Cons: - a quarter of the facility is taken up by walls with only competition / very difficult holds. For me it’s a con because I likely won’t ever climb those so I won’t ever use a quarter of the facility. That’s a whole one side of the entire building. At £14 a time, that’s a lot of facility to not use. - only opens from 10 am. feels late to me for a leisure facility. Climbing before work would be awesome. Even opening 2 hours earlier would be a big boost. - not many lockable lockers. Seems most people leave valuables / gear in their car. Final thoughts: it’s the large section dedicated to a competition wall which, for me, makes this a four star review. It’s a shame that the competition wall can’t also include standard routes outside of competition times, making it an accessible space for everyone. That being said, the rest of the facility is very good. I bought a 10 hit advanced payment thing so I’ll definitely be heading back!

Fantastic experience: One of the best places in the whole of Tunbridge Wells. Everything about Chimera is wonderful, from the facilities to the coffee, and especially the staff. My son adores the classes, and I love the way the staff are so encouraging and enthusiastic.

Fantastic experience: Chimeira was a nice gym. The staff were friendly (and served us gin - always a win to find a bar at the climbing gym!) and the routes were fun and seemingly correctly graded. There was also a pretty decent training room upstairs.

Positive experience: It's not cheap but I believe you can come and go during the day you have paid. Very pleasant staff. Nice coffee. Free water. Plenty of space to play!

Fantastic experience: Super friendly staff, natural lighting makes the place very spacious! As for the blocs, it ranges from super crimpy fontaine style climbs, to big dynamic modern style boulders, all you could ask for! Their training room was special also, with an endurance wall, spray wall and campus/peg board. Overall had a great experience and would definitely reccomend!

Fantastic experience: Moved recently from London, where I got into bouldering at Mile end wall This place is well set up ,friendly, and am looking forward to getting to know my new facilities better ( have to get used to the change in colours and grading) But yes great place . . Getting back into the sport after six months

Positive experience: Only a visitor! My son went has climbed where he lives in Budapest and felt the need when he was over . He wasn't disappointed. Well he said that he needed a couple more hours to work on a route that he was disappointed in not completing. The staff and refreshments were smashing made a couple of non climbers very welcome.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant bouldering gym (i.e. unroped climbing over mats). Extremely friendly and convivial atmosphere, staff and customers. Clean, safe, comfortable, smart, well-lit, well-maintained, good mats. Very accessible, welcoming and unintimidating - great place for people who are new to the sport. Well thought-out layout largely avoids choke points / reduces risk of walking under people - contrast to some gyms in London where space is at more of a premium. Good range of snacks and drinks. Problems are reset frequently, they have a good, varied holdset, and the setting team seem to have a diverse range of sizes /styles, which makes for lots of variety in the kind of problems you see here. They have a brilliant (or diabolical) app where you can record the problems you've done and see at a glance your ranking against other users, or just keep it as a private record of your progress. Fantastically child friendly - more problems set for small children's reach than any other gym I've been to (though be aware children do have to be 5+, where lots of other gyms have a lower threshhold). Would recommend their children's classes unreservedly - highlight of my son's week. Sometimes gets crazy busy in the mornings at the weekends and early evenings in the week, but if you climb a bit later in the evening its much quieter.

Fantastic experience: Great mix of different styles of bouldering problems, there is a gym for over 18s that is well equipped and coffee wasn't too bad.

Fantastic experience: What a great place. The staff really make it as they are so welcoming, helpful and enthusiastic (especially the Aussie chap!). Really nice atmosphere, busy but not overly, able to climb all the routes as and when. What I really liked was watching some awesome climbers do their thing then give it a go myself whilst a 5 year old was zipping up the wall next to me. I'm not looking forward to how the body feels tomorrow but really glad I went and would definitely recommend and go back.

Negative experience: Great indoor fun can’t fault them at that But my daughter left her favourite cardigan behind I rung them a guy answered and as soon as I explained where the cardigan was left he said no is not here didn’t even checked it only takes 2min to check the place! I emailed them to see if anyone has found it no reply won’t be going there again! I’m a business woman and if someone left something behind at my business I would’ve get someone to check top to bottom

Been coming here with since gyms reopened after lockdown, Good protocols in place to minimise virus transmission, with internet booking to avoid overcrowding. Sanitiser stations, and enough space. Good effort. They change a good proportion of the problems regularly, which is great if you go frequently. Friendly.

Fantastic experience: awesome climbing gym, super friendly staff and nice modern building. the route setting is good, with a range of holds used which cater for all grades. many clubs run, aimed at all groups of people from beginners to experienced climbers. alright food selection, and an awesome viewing area (when it isn’t crowded). definitely worth a visit, and don’t forget to try out the slack line!
