The Gym Group London Lewisham

Negative experience: I want to express my disappointment with my recent experience at The Gym in Lewisham. As a long-time member, my experiences have varied, but I've generally been pleased with the service. However, in the last couple of weeks, things have noticeably declined. On November 18th, I encountered a series of issues that left me feeling frustrated and let down. First, one of the leg machines broke down during my workout, and I had to attempt repairs myself. Then, I faced a problem with a locker in the women's dressing room—it got stuck. I immediately sought help and started looking for a staff member at 8:30 am, but to my dismay, no one was available. I waited 30 long minutes, yet by 9 am, I was still alone. I attempted to contact the gym company, but the only number provided is a general line for all branches. This number is only valid for payment inquiries, and their chatbot is far from helpful. Left alone with my belongings locked away, I felt helpless. There was no staff, no emergency contact, and no support available. After waiting another 30 minutes, I called my husband to assist me. Frustrated, I tried to open the locker with a piece of wire and, thankfully, succeeded. I canceled my husband's help, but I wasted an hour and a half trying to resolve this situation on my own. As a result, I was late for work and incredibly upset. Imagine if someone experienced an emergency with no staff available and no way to seek help. This situation is unacceptable. The Gym, it's time to take action and improve your service; otherwise, you risk losing loyal members like me.

Negative experience: This gym would be amazing - but the equipment is absolutely filthy. The pictures below are taken having wiped one plyo box and one mat - on different days. This is actually vile - but when I contacted head office, I was told the gym was spick and span. This needs to be tended to asap - breeding ground for skin infections. (The toilet and changing rooms are well looked after by the cleaning staff)

Negative experience: AVOID The manager at the gym group lewisham, has had a negative impact on the gym community. . He has shown disrespect to staff in front of paying members. Despite numerous complaints. The gym group has taken no action. Over the past few months personal trainers have left. AVOID

Negative experience: Terrible experience. I’ve been using this gym for about 4/5 years now and I think this will be my last month because I don’t think it’s fair that I’m paying for a membership that doesn’t even work sometimes. this morning around 2am I attempted to go to the gym like I do almost every night and too my surprise my pin wasn’t work I tried about 6 times but still no entry , I even tried entering through the app but still nothing.

Fantastic experience: I love coming to the Gym Lewisham especially Lennie's class. It's the right sort of intense. During the class she's always encouraging you to push yourself, I leave feeling great

Positive experience: Friday SGT Functional workout at Lewisham was brilliant . The number of stations challenged and stretched us. The camaraderie egged us on. This class can be adapted for beginners and regulars alike. It set me up for the Weekend. Thanks Azizal☺️

Fantastic experience: I met Lennie today was a joy. Took out a day pass join my friends who are members, whenever I come rarely see staff anymore so good to see a smiley pleasant face who’s welcoming.

Positive experience: Not the most spacious gym but there's all the equipment you'll need. The atmosphere is decent amongst members too. Some machines could be cleaned more often in my opinion

Negative experience: I have been a member of the Gym Group Lewisham for some time, and I used to be very satisfied with the environment and the management. However, my recent experiences have led me to cancel my membership due to the toxic atmosphere that has developed under the new management. During a recent visit, I was training with my friend, who has been helping me get back into a fitness routine. Despite our genuine friendship and support for each other, a staff member named Azuzil approached us rudely and accused my friend of conducting an illegal personal training session. This accusation was not only unfounded but was delivered in a hostile and aggressive manner. Azuzil's behavior was extremely unprofessional, as he threatened to suspend our memberships without any proper investigation. Despite our polite attempts to clarify the situation and ask him to leave us alone, he continued to harass us, making us feel very uncomfortable and unsafe. Following this, both of our memberships were blocked without justification after one hour. TYPICAL LITTLE MAN ENERGY. To make matters worse, when I reported this incident, the response from management was dismissive and failed to address the core issue of Azuzil's aggressive conduct. They even fabricated a claim that we threatened to call the police, which is completely untrue. This kind of behavior from both the staff and management is unacceptable. It is also important to note that my friend has previously experienced harassment at another Gym Group location. Women should feel safe and respected in any gym environment. Given these experiences, I no longer feel comfortable or safe at the Gym Group Lewisham. The new management has created a bully environment, which is in contrast to the supportive atmosphere I initially experienced. For these reasons, even if they unblocked my membership I have decided to cancel my membership and will be looking for a gym that upholds better ethics and respect for its members. I would suggest potential members to consider these issues before joining the Gym Group. No one should have to experience such treatment in what should be a safe and welcoming space.

Negative experience: I used to be a regular at The Gym, and I quite enjoyed my time there. However, things changed when they replaced the previous manager with someone new. Unfortunately, this new manager turned out to be quite rude, which led me to explore other options. That’s when I discovered NRG. The previous manager at The Gym was incredibly friendly and made the experience enjoyable. But with the change in management, I felt unwelcome and uncomfortable. NRG, on the other hand, has been a refreshing change. The staff is attentive, and the overall atmosphere is more welcoming.

Negative experience: Unfortunately the staff and management are poor and careless. Friendly options: NRG, Pure Gym & Anytime Fitness.

Positive experience: (Gym is nice and spacious, however there are no cleaning wipes for equipment and more importantly there’s no internet connection inside and it wouldn’t let me connect to the wifi.) Couldn’t add another review no further issue with the cleaning wipes but the internet problem is my main issue. The wifi doesn’t work and there’s no signal

Negative experience: A gym that couldnt care less about your self esteem, what idiot thought "yeah, lets put the treadmills on display to the whole street" its okay, not like people have feelings. This should be illegal. It's actually cruel.

Fantastic experience: Amazing PT sessions with Lennie. She's given me the confidence to work towards my strength goals. Very empowering!!

Fantastic experience: Gym has all you need and classes all evening - equipment is clean and fresh on every visit. Lovely staff & super approachable - always a bonus when they are a Man Utd fan. Richard the city fan is dead nice also - shame he’s a blue not a red but no judgement. Will be sticking with this gym 100%

Richard and Azizul are very professional and yet always helpful and open for a good chat or laugh. They are doing a great job in managing the gym to the highest levels also providing top notch Personal Trainers to help members through classes and 1 on 1 sessions to reach their fitness goals. Fantastic experience: Amazing gym. Staff are very welcoming, friendly and approachable for advice on how to use gym equipment. On my first visit a very nice employee who helped me deadlift a 50kg barbell with correct form. I took him on as a personal trainer and he has been helping me lose weight to impress my girlfriend. He wants me to be able to lift 80kg barbell so I deadlift my girlfriend and chuck her out of a window. He’s so committed to my goal that he has volunteered me using him as a barbell. He has also offered a staff discount if I help him with his status in the UK by me marrying him. But I do not like the pee pee. He even follows me to the changing room to check if I need any help there. But I do not need any help in that department. 100% would recommend to a family friend or relative.

Negative experience: Nice gym and equipment but it has been under refurbishment for the las 9 months, no gel, no hand sanitizer either.

Negative experience: The place is very dirty, with a lot of dust in every corner. The shower floor is filled with the smell of urine. There are no sanitary wipes or cleaner available to wipe down the equipment, which is very unhygienic. The equipment is a bit old but functional. Some members' behavior towards Asians is not friendly. And some members just rude to everyone. At least that's why I only remained a member for a month before quitting. Definitely not a gym I would want to enter again, even though it's cheap. I would rather pay higher for clean and comfortable place to workout.

Fantastic experience: I've been a member of this gym for over a year. Recently I did six sessions with Lennie Charles, one of the personal trainers available at Lewisham Gym Group. Lennie is a wonderful trainer, she is a very kind and gentle person who is good at putting people at ease, but she is also very good at encouraging and gently pushing you to do more. She made me realise I am actually stronger than I thought I was. I am in my 50s and not particularly athletic so I wasn't all that confident to start with. She helped me improve my technique in various exercises, particularly squats, she gave me some great advice about which resistance machines to use, and helped make sure I was using them correctly. I am now doing strength training regularly and progressing well. I would definitely recommend Lennie Charles as a personal trainer and I will be booking some sessions with her again in the future. As for the gym itself, I would say it is good value for money. There are lots of machines, so there is usually one free even at the busiest times. It is great that it is open 24 hours and if you can get there early in the morning it is nice and quiet. There is a friendly atmosphere and the staff have always been friendly and helpful.

Positive experience: The gym is ok. My main frustration is that they do not provide wipes or spray to wipe down equipment after use, which should be standard in any gym regardless of cost.

There's plenty of space, the machines and equipment are in good condition, and any issues that arise are dealt with efficiently and professionally. I highly recommend this gym for your workout needs.

Great equipment, friendly managers and PT who are attentive and helpful. The gym is across two floors and has a good range of cardio and weights machines, free weights, mirrors and other equipment like kettlebells, sandbags etc (sorry don’t know all the names) In fact my whole family are regular attendees and we thank you for the hard work that you put in to this gym, much appreciated.

It's spacious, with highly ceiling, plenty of natural light - which sets it aparts from other gyms and is important for wellbeing I believe. Staff are friendly and helpful, highly recommended.

Positive experience: Good gym for the price. My only gripe is the fact the equipment is often sweaty from previous use but there are no wipes, spray or kitchen roll in the gym to wipe the surface. This is a huge shame, especially given they had multiple sprays around the gym during covid.

Positive experience: I met Reece today and he was already helping another client and a new person at the gym and then me on a technical issue. I appreciated his help, friendliness and good energy. As for the gym itself, it's dirty and the WiFi isn't good. But the machines work and there's a lot of space. And you can get good deals on membership at the right time.

Fantastic experience: I have had about 10 months of sessions with Lennie Charles, one of the personal trainers at the Gym Group Lewisham. I have mild scoliosis and she has been so effective at helping me minimise my physical imbalance. I used to have back pain from various weaknesses in my body but since sticking to Lennie’s training plan I haven’t had to go do the physio a single time and I am stronger than ever. She has really built my confidence in the gym and is a highly effective motivator without being overly intense or pushy. She is very knowledgeable about a variety of different exercises from yoga and Pilates to weight lifting and plyometrics. I can’t recommend her enough to anyone looking for a PT.

Fantastic experience: Great gym with all of the equipment you would ever need! Even though I was using a guest pass, Azizul was incredible helpful and showed me a new stretch for my shoulder which has helped so much! Please can Azizul let me know what its called so I can check it out online to use again :)
