All are welcome to join us to keep fit and healthy and also mentally. If there is anything we can help you with don’t hesitate to ask, and we will only be so grateful to help!
Raise the Bar Kilsyth: Opinions
Negative experience: UPDATED: I joined as I need to complete rehab on an injury. First time there today. Went into the men’s locker room and saw I litter on the dirty-looking floor - included a rusting kettlebell that had left rust stains on the floor). No coat hooks. Six lockers: one locked, four with no keys, and one with no lock. A small (probably DIY-made) “bench” that wobbled and creaked alarmingly when it put my bag on it. The toilet had the same “out of order” sign i saw on it two months ago. And there was mould in the bottom of the shower doors. The sliding door on the downstairs “accessible” toilet sticks (mind you, the door doesn’t have a lock, so maybe a good thing) and would be very difficult to open from a wheelchair, as the door is at the bottom of a ramp - need REALLY long arms to reach it. But as there’s no room to move a wheelchair past the weights machines near the door, that’s moot. But dried urine streaks on the toilet seat made me question how often cleaners visit. I cannot trust that the resistance machines are safe and properly maintained, as there are so many repairs and obvious maintenance work that needs doing (like damaged walls, smashed window in the front, scratched paint, a missing handrail on the stairs - there’s screw holes are there and exposed plaster from the handrails support), This place has only been open a couple of years, and it’s already so run down hard to justify £26/month fee. ORIGINAL REVIEW It’s a medium-sized gym. Had the usual mix of free and machine weights, plus a few running machines and rowers. Seemed pretty clean and the equipment seemed in working order. I thought it was a bit dark in the main floor. The front has big windows, but they don’t let in much light. There’s music playing at a high volume - have to raise your voice to be heard when speaking to anyone. The main floor feels cramped, which made the music seem louder. The gym is not staffed. The gym members are usually friendly and there are frequently self-employed personal trainers there too, who you can ask for help with the equipment or to show you round. But if there’s an accident or medical emergency, no staff means there’s no first aider there, unless you get lucky. While not having staff in a gym is legal, I don’t think it’s acceptable. Given the high risk of an accident or a medical emergency in a gym, I can’t understand why gyms aren’t required to having a staff member who is trained in first aid present when the gym is open. I asked a PT here what happens if there’s an accident or a medical emergency. He didn’t know. He did say there is CCTV which is monitored. He couldn’t even say how paramedics could get in, when the door was locked. A sign on the door says members use a keypad or a QR scanner to unlock it, but I found it open. As I was able to walk right up into the changing rooms, security is an issue. There’s CCTV, but that only helps after someone has walked in and gone through your stuff in a changing room. (If there’s CCTV in the changing rooms, that’s a whole other set of problems!) The monthly fee is reasonable. But you don’t get locked into a contract. This would be an average gym. But having no staff, the lack of information on emergency procedures, and the cramped feel and too-loud environment put me off joining.
Fantastic experience: Love this place my second home . Personal training with Kami . He has transformed my mind and body . Kami has helped me with upper body strength . For work . I’m fitter than I’ve ever been . There’s not much kami doesn’t know Give this gym a try and look out for the best PT in kilsyth
Fantastic experience: Good wee gym everything u need
Fantastic experience: Great gym!
Fantastic experience:
Fantastic experience: Good no nonsense gym, has all the good correct equipment needed for a good workout
Positive experience: Good gym, nice and big changing rooms, friendly stuff, membership cost is ok. The only downside is a limited number of exercising equipment. Apart from that, everything else is great
Fantastic experience: Great wee gym, friendly staff, fab trainers and good selection of equipment and classes. Definitely great value for money
Fantastic experience: I go here twice a week and have always enjoyed my experience . What I like is that I can go at my own pace and am not being encouraged to do things that would put me under stress.
Fantastic experience: Guys are great and friendly
Fantastic experience: The best of equipment, everything you need and the staff are friendly and helpful.
Negative experience: Used to be 5 star, but (according to "a friend of the owners") the owners are currently on holiday and the electronic front door is temperamental. If it wasn't for someone coming by to open the door for me I'd have wasted an afternoon and my money on this membership. The sign on the door says "contact via social media if there are issues", but no one answers the Facebook messages. From past experience: it took them several days to answer a simple query about freezing my membership. They can apparently keep the playlists running remotely, but not the front door... Ways to improve: make yourselves reachable and keep things running.
Fantastic experience: I when to this gym after an injury. I was barely able to walk and my physiotherapy recommend some exercises with weights and on the bike machine. I was immediately made to feel welcome. The patrons and staff have been really helpful and happy to advise if asked for pointers. The place seems small however it is really well layed out and I have always been able to do something else if a machine is busy and there is enough weights that I have only once had to wait and that was for a particular weight. There are shower and storage facilities and a class area upstairs and the gym downstairs the door is electronically opened with the provided app and has no touch door lock to leave. This is a lovely gym with nice patrons and owners. It is always clean
