Fantastic experience: WoW The Basement LDN is actually a very nice gymnasium, although it may be small it is very clean, all the equipment here are comfortable to use and the staff here are super friendly and always there to assist you whenever you need. As a morning gym goer, I love a coffee in the morning so having a protein/ coffee bar at the gym is definitely a luxury bonus Definitely would recommend!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to this gym for around 8 years and all I can say is if it closed down I think I’d have a nervous breakdown. From the cleaners, the staff and the members they are like a family. The vibe in the gym is second to non Add bonus is my second home the sauna and steam room. I honestly wouldn’t know what to do without this place. I’d give it 10/10 if I could.

Positive experience: Super friendly environment, staff members are always happy to help. The gym floor and equipments always look nice and clean. However, I feel some equipments need to be upgraded. E.g. The barbell bench press, pull up belt but these aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, so overall I’ll say it’s worth the monthly subscription fee.

Positive experience: You get what you paid for. Pros: Good equipment, good location, reasonably clean. Cons: Busy most of the time except weekends, regular gym bros hogging the equipment and leaving weights everywhere. The staff could do more making sure people keep weights in place and that groups of gym bros (who seem to know the staff very well) don't hog all the equipment.

From our records, it would appear that you have not been a member (or even a day pass guest member) of TBLDN for almost 1 year, and that your comments regards the gym being busy may have been influenced by virtue of the fact that all gyms tend to be busy in January. Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to the basement London gym for the past year and it has been always a great experience. Gym equipment is new and complete, it’s always very clean and organised. It’s a small gym but it never gets too crowded which is perfect. The PT sessions that I have done were also very helpful. All staff are well trained, attentive and very welcoming. Highly recommend it for anyone living locally.

Positive experience: It's OK. Has some great hammer-strength plate loading machines. The power racks would be OK if they hadn't been wedged into alcoves, so that loading and unloading is awkward and probably dangerous (for clarity there is insufficient space to load a plate on to a barbell resting in the power-rack, regardless of the weight). The barbells mostly have knackered bearings (they don't rotate easily and have too much "play" in them). This could easily be solved by replacing/servicing the bearings. This does not seem to have happened during the year between my first and most recent visits. This gym could be so much better, but someone if favouring style and marketing over substance. This is potentially a very good training space, even for a more experienced power or olympic lifter, but lets itself down on details. If you are not bothered about those particular branches of training, then you will probably have a very good experience.
Hi Joss Thank you for taking the time to review us. Sorry to hear you found the power racks difficult to load and unload. As you will note from our other reviews, this is not generally a problem experienced by our regular members - we note you most recently visited the club as day pass user having been a member of the club last year. Since the equipment in the club is the same as it was when you were briefly a member, it is surprising you chose to return as a guest pass user given your dissatisfaction, and the alternative Pure Gym in close proximity. In the unlikely event you are visiting the club in the future, please let one of the team know if you are struggling with loading the bars at the power racks. We will be happy to assist with the heavier weights you may be having difficulty loading alone. Regards the powerlifting bars at the club, we have 8 powerlifting bars, which include competition standard Olympic bars. As such, we can only disagree with your amateur assessment of the club’s available equipment. Fantastic experience: The Basement LDN is the best gym I have been to in London. There is an abundance of amazing equipment, perfect for anyone who takes weights and training seriously. Their PTs are all very knowledgable and wonderful to train with. Sauna and steam room is always a bonus, especially for a gym in a residential area!

Fantastic experience: Recently just signed up to the gym and I Love it. The gym is very clean and and the staff are extremely supportive, I am quite new to working out and I am very impressed by how diligent the team are in helping me with some of my exercise that I am not very confident at. It goes with-out saying they have one of the best gym equipment in the area that I've seen compared to all my gyms tours in Camden. All I can say is I totally recommend!!!!!!!

Positive experience: Visited the LDN Physio at the Basement gym in Kentish town. I’ve visited the Hackney LDN Physio location before and both the gym staff and the physio staff were very friendly and professional (which is still my view ❤️). At The Basement gym however, the gym staff were extremely rude. LDN Physio have a partnership with the gym and there is a sign asking for clients to check in at the gym where they’ll be picked up from. When I went to the gym to check in and let them know I’m here, the gym employee at the reception was extremely rude, just said “it’s upstairs” whilst looking very annoyed i was there asking anything. She then proceeded to go back to her little room and scroll on her phone. I’m an athlete and visit a lot of gyms both in london and abroad, and this is probably the rudest “welcome” I’ve gotten from a gym NOTE: the physio was super lovely and she apologized a million times about the treatment and noted that she’d speak to the gym management EDIT: The LDN Physio team as well as the gym management have taken the feedback on board and are working to address the situation. I received a call from the LDN Physio team to discuss what happened, and are working to make some changes from their side too, as well as discussing gym management on how to best avoid future situations like this one and provide a good customer experience both from the gym side and the physio side

Whilst we appreciate that this may be the case from your previous experiences with LDN Physio in Hackney, it is most certainly not the case at Kentish Town. 2- The Basement does not have any involvement in assessing the accuracy of information LDN Physio communicates to its customers. Any misinformation LDN Physio may have inadvertently provided you with by way of their front door signage, or otherwise, is a matter for LDN Physio and yourself. 3- We do not offer a “check-in service” to customers of LDN Physio, which is a neighbouring independent business. 4- The fitness team at The Basement does not have a process to notify LDN Physio when one of LDN Physio’s customers arrives. We are satisfied that her communication with you was not intended to be abrupt or rude. The team member in question has recently joined the team via a Ukrainian refugee scheme and it seems highly likely that her relatively short time in the UK may have contributed to the challenging communication exchange with yourself, particularly given that she was dealing with the administrative needs of a customer from an unrelated business, which she has naturally not been trained to do as part of her role. Nevertheless, we pride our team on being polite and helpful to all enquiries from members of the public. Upon being made aware of your experience, the team member in question was horrified to learn that her directions to the entrance level presented as rude and apologised for any confusion caused. We can only further apologise that you feel that your experience was not up to our usual high standards on this occasion. 6- We agree that an apology for the events at the time of your visit was merited and we are happy to hear that this was provided to you at the relevant time. We endorse that it would have been additionally helpful for you to have received an explanation for the miscommunication caused by the front door signage as helpful context for the confusion that occurred between yourself, who was expecting a check in, and our team member, who thought you were in need of directions to the LDN Physio therapy room on the entrance level. We are sorry that this was not appropriately clarified at the time of your visit. We have since received an apology from LDN Physio for the confusion caused by the front door signage literature and consequential lack of clarity that prompted an overall unsatisfactory experience. 7- Based on your “edit” and for the purposes of managing expectations, we have today clarified for LDN Physio that it should not erroneously inform its customers that The Basement provides a “check-in service” on its behalf. As a courtesy, The Basement allows customers of LDN Physio to wait in its reception area if customers have arrived early for their appointment. This courtesy, however, does not extend to a liability by The Basement to formally check in LDN Physio customers. LDN Physio have requested we continue to direct its customers to its therapy room and our seating area (as appropriate). We hope the above explanation provides some clarity on your experience. As a business and a team, we have noted your comments and have taken steps to ensure such instances are not repeated in the future where we were at fault. Positive experience: Good value gym near the station. Friendly and helpful staff. Gym equipment is fairly basic compared to larger gyms, and only classes are yoga (but are good standard). With a sauna and steam room (intermittently available) however it's very good value for money. Busy before and after work like all gyms.

As an FYI, the sauna and steam room are always available on our premium membership and can be booked in 15 minute slots at anytime subject to availability, either just before use or in advance. Regards equipment, the gym tends to focus more on resistance machines, free weights and plate loaded machines but the on-site team are always happy to hear suggestions for which particular equipment pieces members feel would add to their experience. Negative experience: £15 for a single day session. Unnecessarily gone up by 50%. That's not really in line with inflation is it. Mould on the walls. Small gym. Overpriced and not worth it. I would visit here when I'd come down to London but will find somewhere else now.

The increased price of day passes is proportionally representative of the increase in cost of delivering our services to our members and guest users. By their very nature, single use day passes are typically the most expensive way of using any gym, whilst contributing least to the gym’s revenues. As such, any necessary price increases tend to have the biggest perceived impact on day passes. TBLDN takes the view that minimising membership price increases for our regular members, paying monthly subscriptions, should take priority over protecting the prices of infrequently used day passes. Our approach to pricing has been generally very well-received by our members. Moreover, it has enabled us to avoid price increases for the vast majority of our members at a time when some members have been contending with a cost of living crisis. Further to the comprehensive explanation above, it may be worth highlighting that this is the first price increase for TBLDN day passes since the Covid lockdowns came to an end in July 2020 - which also is not in line with inflation. We expect day pass users such as yourself had no complaints that TBLDN chose not to track inflation for the previous 3 years. We are sorry you feel that our day passes no longer offer you value for money. However, we are satisfied that they do. And, we are grateful to know that our members do not share your views. Positive experience: Trained here for a month, while I was in between jobs. The free weights section is well equipped however it can get quite busy at the peak hours (before 10am, lunchtime, …), and it can get tricky to get a rack or a bench. The cardio section always had some free space. The women’s showers weren’t too great, probably due to the water pooling a bit and people wearing shoes to go to that same area to use the toilet. I would say their premium membership is not worth it. If they added towels available for use into the premium membership I would probably change my mind.
Hi Maria. Thank you for taking the time to review us. The gym consciously offers a comprehensive weights area so that we can manage our peak periods. However, as a central London gym, this can sometimes be a tricky task. Nevertheless, we are sorry you found the facilities busier than you might have liked during your time with us. Proportionately, per member, the gym’s weights area is amongst the most comprehensive in the Kentish Town area. Regards the women’s changing rooms, these are generally maintained by a dedicated cleaning attendant during peak periods. Although, we agree that it is never helpful when users of the changing room cause water pooling by not drying off more considerately, we will feed this back to the cleaning team going forwards. In terms of our premium membership pricing, this is charged at just £10 per month more than our classic membership. For the extra £10 per month, members have exclusive access to the sauna, steam room, 5 yoga classes per week and also our platform of virtual classes. Given the offering, we do consider this to be good value for money. Towel services general cost gymnasiums approximately £30 - £35 per month per member to deliver at cost. Our feedback from members is generally that they would prefer to keep the cost of the membership lower and use their own towels, rather than see the price of their membership almost double due to the provision of towels. We hope this addresses all of the points raised in your comments, but of course feel free to reach out to management if you would like to discuss any of the above in more detail. Warmest wishes. Fantastic experience: Am a big fan of this gym!!! All the people like Forest and Callum and JJ who work here are lovely, very helpful. They have a pretty large range of equipment and everything is very clean. The shakes are really yummy as well :) Would definitely recommend signing up for a subscription, you save a lot more money than with a day pass. I come four times a week and heavily recommend it.
