Jack Kontou Wing Chun Kung Fu - JKWC

Fantastic experience: I tried other martial arts before at different schools, under many different teachers. However, the techniques and philosophies never stuck, nor became truly applicable, in the sense that I never saw myself using those principles in a real fight, and eventually, I would quit. I would always blame the style. After half a year of coming to jkww though, I find my assessment of the situation corrected: it's the teacher, and the manner of teaching. Sifu Jack's experience in applying Wing Chun is equal to none, and his teaching methods make the lessons stick with you for life. I stopped thinking in fights and started feeling, therefore reacting instantly to what I'm given, using moves I only realise later that I've practiced here. It's an amazing experience, and the philosophies learned here are important not just in self defense, but in real life.

Fantastic experience: I have studied Wing Chun previously and enrolled with JKWC last year after several years away from the martial art. The JKWC system is fantastic. Very methodical, precise and based on hard work repeated many times to achieve results. Sifu Jack Kontou is the real deal. Technically excellent and has a fighting pedigree gained over many years that enables him to make the technical exercises relevant and vital. Even in the short time I have been going I have improved and I'm looking forward to continuing my Wing Chun journey. A very welcome activity in a world of corporate pressures!

Fantastic experience: I wish I started sooner. It's a great martial art school not only to learn martial arts but to use them in real life. The school is like a big family where seniors help beginners and juniors. It's a very good place to start if you are motivated and if you are unsure about yourself, sifu will help you get where you want to go and give you confidence. Very often, he gives us his wisdom and give motivational speeches so we keep going even if it gets hard.

Fantastic experience: THE BEST MARTIAL ARTS SCHOOL AND TEACHER. I arrived at this school nearly two years ago and haven't looked backed. I am surprised at my own growth from not just learning how to fight but the mindset that goes with it. For me, Sifu care a lot about us, his students, and his goal is to equip us with the tools to defend ourselves from would-be attackers even those physically stronger than us. Sifu Jack, has had an incredible life journey which means that the lessons he is teaching and combat techniques are not just theory. Sifu Jack has over 40 years’ experience with an incredible lineage which anyone would be privileged to be a part of. Sifu’s son, Jake, adds a different style and flavour to each lesson with sparring, drills, workouts and applications, bringing a different way of thinking and moving which only adds to the abundance of attributes that you can be taught here. It’s quite a mind-blowing learning experience, one which I believe is unparalleled and one you will not find anywhere else. His teachings are unique and tailored for everyone. JKWC has a friendly environment and students of all levels are there to help each other progress and improve their skills. Make no mistake, your Wing Chun journey should begin and end with JKWC!!!!

Fantastic experience: Sifu Jack and his son Jake have created a warm and friendly environment where you are given a mixture of wisdom, technique instruction and encouragement. Training tailored to the individual every class in a purpose built Wing Chun school. My only regret is not training with Sifu Jack sooner. Fully recommended.

Fantastic experience: I have been bringing my son to train with Sifu Jack and his son Jake for the last decade. Not only do they teach martial arts but they have become mentors and role models to the children and teens in their school. Along with the confidence that comes with learning a skill like kung-fu, my son learns to be resilient, determined and focussed as part of the Wing Chun way. Life skills which are transferable into his home, school and social life. I have also been training in the adult classes with Sifu Jack for just over a year now and needless to say it has become a way of life. Every week, without fail, I’m there with my kung-fu brothers and sisters, learning from Jack’s years of experience and unwavering passion for his art. Lessons are a perfect balance of instruction, application, self study, fitness training and mental preparation for what may come. Jack has built a sense of camaraderie within the kwoon, where everyone is actively encouraged to train and ask questions in a safe and supportive environment. Thank you Jack and Jake for everything you have done, and continue to do for all your students. We continue to be inspired by your enthusiasm and wisdom. The only down side, is that I wish I had joined sooner!

Fantastic experience: Always wanted to try Wing Chun and after some research decided to try out a class at JKWC. Incredible and rewarding experience from day 1. Sifu Jack teaches the real thing. You get to learn both the fighting and formal aspects of this powerful fighting art/system to a level rarely seen in the West. And the atmosphere is great too!

Fantastic experience: I have been a member at Jack Kontou Wing Chun School for about 1.5 year. I started when I was 49, I was not in such good shape and had my doubts if I could start doing Martial Art at this stage in my life. Fantastic experience: I've been learning Wing Chun with Sifu Jack Kontou since October and it's been a huge discovery for me. His approach on Wing Chun for real life applications is brilliant, together with his deep knowledge in the fighting arts and long experience in Wing Chun (more than 40 years). The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, but at the same time very professional. Our Sifu is always keeping an eye on us and encouraging us to look for perfection, something very important to most of us. Fantastic experience: I’ve been training with Sifu Jack for around 2 months now. I’ve learnt more in 2 months then I did 2 years with another. The knowledge, skill and wisdom of Sifu is second to none. He is very humble, passionate and brings out the best in you. There is no ego. The way Sifu flows and moves then explodes with such control is mind-blowing. I have trained in martial arts before but I never had the motivation I get from Sifu’s classes. I would usually train once a week and wait until the following week to train again. However, with Sifu you want to do the homework. At home or in the gym, I am still practicing what he has taught me. His son Jake who is my Sihing is also great at teaching. They both push you and help you improve along with willing to answer any questions. I started out with 1 session a week but because I want to learn more. I now attend 3 sessions a week. I wish I could attend all 4! If anyone is looking to learn Wing Chun. Then I recommend Sifu Jack and his school. My Kung Fu family are very welcoming and helpful during class too! P.S. What I regret is not finding Sifu Jack earlier

Fantastic experience: I am from Hong Kong and had never imagined there is such a good Wing Chun school here. Sifu Jack is an amazing teacher. Besides teaching traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu and knowledge, he prepares his student to handle combat and deal with dangerous situations in real life. His Wing Chun is inherited from Grand Master Victor Kan. The atmosphere in the school is like a big family, all seniors and students are willing to help each other to make progress together. I highly recommend Hong Kong people (or anyone) who want to learn Wing Chun to join this big family.

Fantastic experience: I don't get to attend the school as often as I should, however every single lesson I do attend, I always learn something new, the atmosphere is perfect here, the Sifu (Master) and Jake are amazing teachers. This place is worth the money and time, I'm honestly honoured to be able to study under Sifu Jack Kontou. Join, if you can! You will learn more than just Wing Chun! This place is amazing!

Fantastic experience: Friendly atmosphere. Great teacher and supportive fellow students. But there ate no shortcuts. Sifu Jack takes us through the basics, builds a solid foundation and he'll take us as far as we are capable. And don't worry of you think you're not athletic or have the wrong physique. Wing Chung is a highly adaptable and effective martial arts, suitable for all ages, gender and physical ability. Ip Man's sons are practicing well over 100 years of age! So drop in for a trial to find out for yourself!

Fantastic experience: Signed up my youngest daughter a little under a year ago - gave her the choice of dance or martial arts - thankfully she chose the latter. Jack came highly recommended and hasn’t disappointed my daughter has developed an impressive speed coupled with discipline , confidence and a real interest in understanding this art. She is coming on for 13 now and still wants to go! I don’t normally write reviews but in this case I will make an exception both father and son are providing something relevant to the community - if your child is willing to learn and listen to their teachings they will learn life skills that may keep them safe and as a parent you cannot put a price on that - she could always dance now she can defend herself happy days!

Fantastic experience: Excellent school with the one of the best Sifu's in the UK. I've known Sifu for a number of years, and his training is the best. His classes are very helpful and friendly. The standard of Sifu's training is very high. I've learnt so much from him. I would not want to be with another Sifu. Sifu Jack is also an honest tutor. He says it as he sees it. This in my opinion, is the best way to teach students. Sifu wants all of his students to be the best they can be. I highly recommend his Kung Fu school to anyone who wants to learn.
