Fantastic experience: I've been climbing here for nearly 2 years. A good range of climbing challenges which are refreshed on a regular basis. Welcoming and friendly. Good cafe. Lovely carrot cake ! Looking forward to the next era when they develop the new centre at Whiffler Road.

Fantastic experience: Super chill staff. They still ensure safety while making sure beginners and experts enjoy themselves. Not pricey, (clean) shoes for hire, holds and routes change regularly and are graded well.

Negative experience: Ben is a rude and unprofessional person, and really unsuited to working in this environment. He enjoyed his little power trip yesterday with me over signing in a guest. See below similar review from another upset paying customer. Having long-term unhinged and disrespectful staff is not good for HB.

Fantastic experience: One of my favourite places, ever! I’ve been to climbing centres across the UK and Europe and this is a top contender. The largest in East Anglia I believe. If you’re considering a gym membership but find the grind and atmosphere of the gym boring, uninspiring or intimidating make sure you try highball first. Great fun, great community.

Positive experience: We visited over Easter, staff were friendly and welcoming, facilities clean and lots of options for routes. For me, the routes could be labeled up much more clearly, and some routes seemed incomplete. I am by no means an expert climber, and found intermediate routes limted. So for me, good but could be much better with clearer route marking.

Fantastic experience: Recently had a bouldering coaching session with Jude which was really helpful and highly recommend anyone looking to have coaching to use Jude although I’m sure all the other coaches here are equally as awesome. Jude was very professional and I will defiantly be booking more 1 on 1 sessions. Also a very welcoming place to be run by a great team of people. thanks guys

Positive experience: 5 star facility ~ unfortunately the freezing temperature knocked it down a star. It was probably a 3 star experience because my hands and feet were very cold but it feels rude to give 3 stars to such a wonderful gym with really fun setting. I asked a fellow climber if it was normally this cold as I thought maybe the heating was broken but she said it’s always like this and was also struggling to stay warm/motivated despite both of us wearing warm, puffy jackets. There were also few times I wished there were more down climbing jugs ~ esp on the slabbier walls where the holds are just smaller in general. I prefer my cruxes on the way up, not the way down. I also want to mention the fitness/workout room as I had read through reviews, looked through photos on google and dived in to the website and couldn’t find any info on exercise equipment. There are free weights, barbells, hangboards, rowing machines and I think air bikes. There’s also bands and rings. So, plenty to keep you occupied! I hope this review doesn’t sound too negative as I think it’s a high quality climbing gym.

Fantastic experience: Jude very helpful member of staff. Very nice centre

Negative experience: Shockingly rude service from the manager Ben in front of my 6 year old daughter and father. Left my daughter upset and as a result will keep High Ball off our go to list for fun. Such a shame as I felt the place had a brilliant community and friendly staff. So unfortunate about that one bad apple/jobs worth. Sadly this was the first experience for my father, and Ben has certainly soured the wrong man, especially for how influential his word is within Norfolk. Ben - learn some manners and respect, especially infront of children.

The slot booking system is great as it means it isn’t too crowded and there’s a lot of space for you to be able to climb around the huge variety of bouldering walls there is available! Will definitely be coming again :)

Positive experience: I have been here x3 times now and my first two experiences were great. The place offers a great climbing experience as well as a cafe with plenty of refreshments, snacks and various seating areas to rest. The building is huge and has lots of different walls to climb on with plenty of variation that changes everytime Ive visited. Overall, it seems to be a well run and managed place that caters to people at any level of experience. I did however have a very negative experience with a member of staff on the front desk which was very discouraging to make me want to continue to come back. It was more or less expressed that I was lying about an experience relating to my previous visits. I was pretty shocked and left feeling incredibly anxious that an official representative of the business would boldly suggest that I would lie to them. I felt quite helpless in the fact that if that was a reflection of the team then my experience that day may not have been taken seriously. Just to note that I also had a witness that had felt the same way when hearing the conversation. Other than that, it has all been very positive and I have found myself making friends everytime I've visited.

Fantastic experience: Kids thoroughly enjoyed their time at highball, brilliant instruction buy the wonderful staff, no waiting and they got to try everything they wanted to. Great fun for the kids and nice little bit to get coffee cakes or a beer.

Fantastic experience: Such a great place. Staff are funny, welcoming and professional, top people! Decent size venue with lots of different walls and training areas, has a gym, coffee section with excellent quality coffees. They sell snacks which are all top quality too. The place just has a friendly, fun atmosphere, as newbies we felt welcomed, there's a mix of people from our level to spiderman level. If I didn't live 25 miles away, I would be coming multiple times a week!

Fantastic experience: Did the bouldering intro and then climbed with friends last night. Had a great time, learned some useful tips. Glad there were plenty of beginner friendly options and ones to have more of a challenge. Sorry can't remember the names of the staff - one doing the induction and the other doing a covert observation of it - but you were both lovely and added to it being an awesome night. Fantastic experience: The initial training session was really well done, the staff were very good and it was really relaxed. The times that we have been since have all been great due to the help from the staff. The facility is good and the cafe is really good.

Fantastic experience: Booked on the website and saw that someone on your team needs to be an experienced climber so booked two people on for an introduction course. Had a fantastic time, the instructor was clear and we got to spend an hour afterwards free climbing. You get discount cards after completing the course which is fantastic. Have been once since and the atmosphere is amazing. Lots of kind people out to have fun and willing to help you when you get stuck! I'm still getting used to things and have a fear of heights so it's always a boost when a total stranger helps guide you down or cheers you on. There are lockers to use but everyone's so chilled that I'm comfortable just leaving my bags in the cubby holes. Something that really stands out is that you can buy or rent climbing chalk from the front desk and they have a mini cafe for emergency snacks (most from bread source woo hoo!). The cafe food is delicious honestly, and even if I pack snacks, I will still buy a little something next time I come. I got a chicken wrap last time and boosted me to climb for another hour. Looking forward to my next climbing session!

Fantastic experience: Really fab time at Highball yesterday for an 'intro to climbing' session for my son's 22nd birthday. Great instruction from George and a rare opportunity to show our boys that we oldies can scramble up some boulders like geriatric monkeys. May explain why I selected the (scrummy) banana bread! Will definitely be going back.

Fantastic experience: Been climbing here for the past couple of months now and have had a great time. The staff are all wonderfully friendly, the atmosphere is lovely and the cafe is a pleasant break stop! Climbing wise I'm still very much a beginner but there are a great variety of routes for all skill levels. The problem setting seems great and they change them frequently so there's always something new to try.

Fantastic experience: Excellent wall, they have a great range of walls and routes. Super helpful and friendly staff that seemed to be happy to answer any questions. The locals seemed friendly and encouraging. To top it off the cafe is great too!

Fantastic experience: Tremendous fun! Haven't been to Highball since my very first bouldering session and coming back now that I have a bit more of a handle on it was a joy. Even smashed a couple of overhangs. Very pleased.

Positive experience: A variety of different walls with varying degrees of difficulty - the holds are changed regularly. There's also a stong emphasis on safety and if you're new to climbing you can book into introductory courses There is also a cafe serving nice coffee, tea and snacks.

Fantastic experience: My first time to highball to climb. The facilities are great! It's clean, tidy and well maintained. The staff were welcoming, warm, helpful and supportive. If you've not been before you'll need an experienced climber to accompany you. I was lucky enough to have Samantha with me who is exactly that. Climbing routes are clearly labled and all difficulties are carried through multiple heights so you can start at '0' on the lowest walls and continue through to the taller walls with the same route difficulty. All of the walls have crash matts at the bottom so you know you have a soft landing. Shoe hire also available. Cafe also on site. All in all a great climbing experience. Would recommend. P.S. Make sure you book in advance as they still operate with maximum numbers on the premesis.

Positive experience: I’ve been coming to Highball quite regularly for last four months as it is basically the only option for climbing around Norwich. The staff is super friendly and the overall vibe is great, and I’m giving huge thumbs up for the wide-ranging and non-repetitive music selection! However, I would really appreciate a better setting as many boulders are rather sketchy (e.g. lots of unnecessarily reachy moves) and not really imaginative imo (might be partly because of the holds) and at the same time, in some sectors there is simply too much blank space for more boulders. Also, I’d really appreciate (as well as others I’ve spoken to) a better training zone (spraywall, larger woodboard or anything) as man might get a bit bored from climbing same boulders over and over. I don’t mean this to be the words of condemnation or what, just my personal view taking into account lots of other gyms I have experienced with, and as I said there are many things that are great and for which I’ll continue coming back with pleasure

Positive experience: For me the best climbing wall around the Lowestoft area. It's 4.5 meters high bouldering no ropes, tons of routes from 0-7(Their grading system, dont know the grade conversion) Plenty for the beginner to advanced climber.. The ropes climbing is 6m high with plenty of routes to choose from, it's a little short so maybe only for the inexperienced or nervous at hights.

Fantastic experience: My regular climbing centre. A decent sized climbing centre where the routes are changed frequently and the staff are extremely welcoming and lovely. A brilliantly supportive and friendly environment suitable for all levels of climbers!

Fantastic experience: Great location just outside Norwich, friendly staff/instructors, and fantastic climbing and bouldering facilities. My son's in the middle of a 6-week bouldering course and really enjoying it. He's already saying he wants to continue doing it after the course finishes. Nice little cafe area too selling hot/cold drinks and cookies, sausage rolls, etc.

Fantastic experience: Really good facility with plenty of routes to challenge yourself on. Not cheap, but is worth it if you have a passion for the sport!

Positive experience: Some good climbs but a couple of issues. When we mentioned it was our first time there, the staff didn't explain anything to us e.g. the grading, where toilets were, etc. The climbs within a grade ranged much more than I've ever seen! I understand that there is some room for interpretation, but this was ridiculous. For example within the level 2 there were climbs ranging from v2 to v5!! It wasn't the most useful that they use the font grading system as opposed to the V system like most other gyms in the UK. My partner is a relative beginner - she climbs v0-v2, and really struggled with most of the climbs, the level 0s were fairly difficult, as they were overhung, which made it inaccessible for beginners. All in all an average experience.

Fantastic experience: I'm a beginner climber so can't compare to other climbing centres but I can't rate this places enough. Super easy to register and get stuck in. The staff are really friendly and make me feel very welcome with every visit. Brilliant to have a gym to warm up / cross train in. Toilets are always clean and smelling fresh. Shoe hire is only 3 quid. Cheeky little shop with some lovely kit and clothing in. Super relaxed friendly vibe about the place.

Fantastic experience: A really nice climbing gym with a variety of problems. I like the grading system because you don't have to keep reminding yourself of what grade each colour is etc. It also means there's lots of different styles of climbing for each grade. Well stocked shop and easy to access car park. Is quite pricey but find me a gym that isn't these days unfortunately...
