Fantastic experience: Great cafe, friendly atmosphere, good music in background while you're climbing. Also has a good little gym.

Negative experience: Not the best communication, there is a 5 pound charge for first climb for some reason didn’t tell us and then didn’t tell us we had to wear climbing shoes. Climb for 20mins then coach came over and said we had to rent them. So in total for x2 kids and adult would of been 45 pound. If they said this at the start I wouldn’t of bothered. Talked to staff about it and they didn’t offer any support. So we left, pretty unreasonable missing out information then not coming the party. Not the best for kids either. They are only allowed in a small area. Which also wasn’t disclosed at the start. For adults I am sure it’s good, but I wouldn’t take kids there again.

Positive experience: Great climbing gym but the climbs can be a little difficult if you're short and still learning. Other than that they have some lovely staff members and some fun climbs

Fantastic experience: Moved from Glasgow to Preston a few months ago, happy I found boulder UK, as I miss my old gym. Great place for climbing, good range of routes, super friendly and helpful staff, great coffee (is a must while climbing) cannot fault this place except the earlier closing times at the weekend, but no t really an issue. (Update) Now been going 8 months to boulder UK, still loving it and progressing nicely, ain't found a fault yet, I assume I won't find one.

Fantastic experience: Great bouldering centre with climbs between V0 starter routes and V8+ challenges. They change all the walls every couple of weeks so it never gets old. Great staff, good atmosphere, fantastic culture of keeping trying when it's hard and helping each other improve and learn. Snacks and gear available for purchase.

Fantastic experience: Boulder UK is a wonderful gym, with a beautiful, grass-roots history. It began when Ian Vickers (X-Games climber and local legend!) bought a terraced house in Blackburn and converted it into a facility where the local community could try climbing, many for the first time. They have since been able to expand and are now situated in Preston's Walton Summit industrial estate, however, despite the size increase, the friendly and communal spirit persists. Vickers is still a primary route setter and I particularly like that boulders of all grades have a technical, problem solving element to them - not simply those of higher grades. There is a children's area and they are dog-friendly. The gym hosts various competitions with iconic climbers such as Hazel Findlay and Shauna Coxsey being among past competitors. In short, well worth a visit. Please be aware this is a bouldering only climbing gym.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant find! I had a couple of hours to kill before food with the fam and googled nearby walls. So glad I came, sign up took 5 minutes and i was away. Great route setting, tons of good problems of varied styles and grades and decent little cafe with an open front for a mid session cuppa. Neil was brilliant, explained the grading system and comp wall, and checked in with me for a chat during my session. I'm Manchester based but I'd travel to come again.

The progression was spot on, starting with a few easy climbs then onto some challenging climbs. Nice and relaxed atmosphere and everyone was incredibly helpful. Looking forward to going back.

Negative experience: Staff are as rude as they come. Not welcoming at all and looked completely depressed the entire time. It's a good thing you don't have to interact with them when you're actually climbing.

Fantastic experience: I've been climbing at boulder UK for around 2 years now, I started learning here shortly after it opened and have always loved it! The climbing area is smaller than other places I've been but thanks to its specific focus on bouldering the volume and quality of the boulders more than makes up for it and there's plenty of variety with caves, slabs, a big 45 degree, comp wall and a free hanging wall called the skip which offers a climbing experience not found in other places. The sections change on a weekly basis, I believe there's 4 sections, so climbs are left up for 4 weeks at a time but an entire section changes with each week which allows for new climbs of all levels on that section which is rest for all climbers and also means the entire thing is reset instead of trying to work around existing routes, so volumes and other surfaces can be added and removed easily so you don't what you're getting next :) There's also a good training area upstairs with campus rungs of 4 different sizes, crimp training holds, beast makers, pull up bar, moon boards, circuit training and an assortment of weights to train all your climbing needs! Finally, the centre is full of friendly staff and community with numerous events that take place throughout the year, there's always plenty's to push your level like the plywood masters events and a small shop and café. Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: We visited over the weekend and really enjoyed our time here, there's loads of routes for beginners like myself, the staff were great and I thought the prices were pretty reasonable. I had to hire shoes which they provide as an extra. They also offer refreshments and a little clothes and shoe store.
