Fantastic experience: Great gym, I love it. Only things I would change are the closing times are too early on Saturday but especially Sunday and the running machines (which are annoying to use).
Negative experience: They replied to my membership enquiry email 2 months later! What a joke, never in my life I experienced that. Safe to say they lost a client and many more. Pathetic customer service!

Fantastic experience: Darren is very helpful and friendly. I am always delighted when I walk into the gym and see him behind the counter. He is also a great PT.

Fantastic experience: Me and my friend were both struggling with the same problem. We spoke to plenty of PT’s who didn't really help. I don’t usually leave reviews but we found a guy, Darren. He actually took the time to understand our goals and made a plan to get us there. If you need a PT, highly recommend going with Darren, service and knowledge was next to none. Just wish we’d found him sooner and saved myself the time, money and hassle with other PT’s. Top quality guy.

Fantastic experience: The best gym I have been to. Been to a few gyms and this has by far got the best equipment and staff. Everyone is always friendly and all the equipment is always clean. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Fantastic experience: Such a friendly gym, everyone is so welcoming whether it’s the staff on reception, the trainers running clubs, or the other members. A good variety of classes too if you want to try something new like weightlifting or Pilates, both I’d recommend! Xx

Fantastic experience: It was my first time going to the underground gym and I got to say it was a great gym. It had all the equipment you would expect and was very well maintained. All the staff were friendly and helpful particularly Darren, such a friendly, thoughtful and chatty guy. He gave me lodes of advice and made sure I knew how the gym worked, where everything was and how to use it. He made my gym session a right laugh. Hoping to work with him in the future and get signed up for his PT training. Keep it up, Darren.

Fantastic experience: I had never joined a gym before underground and was nervous about fitting in. However the equipment is excellent and the people there are really kind. The staff are all incredible, especially Darren who gave me my induction and has been great for me

Positive experience: This gym has been great for so long. The equipment iis fantastic and very easy to get to. Even during peak times there is always space. Recently though I have noticed lack of cleaning ( my hoodie goes from black to grey every time it touches the floor.). One of the things I really can’t justify is the incredibly loud music. I had to buy two pair of headphones ( one was 178£ ) just to isolate the super loud noise…( it was advised although I should not buy more headphones to be able to train ………. I tried to kindly ask the staff member to turn the volume down but every time it goes back up again. Maybe it’s the company policy - however I am aware of many other people struggling with the high volume. I am honest with you all, only reason I don’t leave it’s cos it convenient but I have seriously thought of moving to another gym
Hi Caterina, Thanks for the review, your feedback is really important to us and I’m sorry that your feedback in person wasn’t actioned. Perry, the club manager, has setup the sound system now so that it is at the correct levels with markers so the staff know what the correct levels are. This should solve the problem but if you notice it creeping up please speak to the staff on site who know what to do now. On the floor, we have very recently upped the cleaning and specifically the deep cleans so that this problem should also be dealt with. It’s a big site so requires a lot of attention but we are 100% on it to make sure we get the levels of cleaning on point. Thanks again for your feedback. See you at the gym soon Alan (Owner)

Fantastic experience: Perry was helpful
Fantastic experience: I'm going through a really tough time in life and knew I needed to work out but had serious anxiety about going to a gym for the first time. The general manager Lee spotted me right away and welcomed me with open arms. He even helped me understand how to use all the equipment and got me to open up about somethings I needed to. I didn't feel like a customer I felt like a friend they genuinely cared for and today was the boost I needed. I can't wait to go back again, that is truly above and beyond what I expected to receive.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely love visiting this gym, best around, the vibe from the front desk is super positive and the equipment is quality and well maintained. Great variety of people working out CrossFit, Bodybuilding, Martial Arts and Hyrox great environment.

Fantastic experience: I re-joined after a year away and just completed my first day back. Brought my 15-year old son with me to help me through it. Lee, the general manager, greeted us when we walked in and could not have been warmer or more helpful if he tried. The equipment itself looks great and the place was buzzing. This is one of the best gyms in the south east, with a terrific layout, quality machines, and a warm, friendly environment.

I need to leave my personal information so that someone will call me to discuss the cost... I don’t want anyone to call me and swindle something. I want to understand what you offer and how much it costs.

Positive experience: Great gym with a friendly and supportive atmosphere, a wide variety of equipment for all training styles (including Olympic Weightlifting) and knowledgeable staff and PTs. They recently invested in some new equipment such as steel calibrated plates for Powerlifters and more squat racks. The gym would still benefit from more plates for the machines (particularly around the benches). Over the last year or so there has been a noticeable decrease in the cleaning that is carried out, both in the changing rooms and gym area. This cleanliness is not helped by the terrible ventilation that has been an issue for years. Unless it's winter the gym gets very hot and stuffy and in the summer they only put out very small fans in select areas. See Chimera climbing in high brooms for an example on how effective a proper industrial fan is in improving the temperature of the gym. The gym would be an easy 4/5 out of 5 if these issues were resolved.
Hi Tom, Thanks for the feedback, it's really appreciated. On the cleaning, we have increased cleaning throughout the space as of last month including more deep cleans and a fuller rota of cleaning during the day including deep cleans on the machines so the gym floor should be in great nick now. Cooling such a big space is difficult however we have the luxury of multiple exits to outside which stay open during the Summer to get that lovely flow through of air to keep the place fresh but I will certainly look at an industrial fan and see if it would work in the space. Her kindness, patience and can do attitude is even making me think about joining up. My partner says this is the best gym by far in Tunbridge wells and he has tried them all! Negative experience: The gym equipment itself is good and there’s lots of it. That is the only positive. The changing rooms need lots of work. Most of the staff are inexperienced kids just loitering around. Although the equipment is good, and it may be that it’s cleaned when the gym closes - I have never once seen any equipment or floors cleaned. Unless you have noise cancelling headphones, don’t bother bringing any, as they blast the same unwanted music every day. **IMPORTANT - Finally, the worst part of this gym - when you cancel your membership, they continue to charge you. This has not only happened to me but multiple other people I know. Clearly there is some seriously sketchy management going on here, trying it on. A real shame as the gym has high potential, but is run poorly.
Hi Sebastian, Sorry to hear that you haven't had the experience that you wanted at Underground. We agree on the changing rooms and are getting them sorted in the next week or 2. It's our fault that we didn't communicate this to you as a member. The staff are a good bunch who we are being given more direction now that we have fresh management in place so that will be an ever improving picture both for members and the staff. The gym is cleaned every night by professional cleaners, it would be a health hazard to have the gym fully cleaned while members were in as well as being a little distracting for members I imagine. On music, this is always a subjective call, one persons gold is another persons lead! However you should be able to enjoy your choice of music in your headphones so if the music is a bit loud I'm sure the staff can turn it down a smidge for you. On your final important note, if there has been an error with payments you should let us know asap and we will rectify immediately. As most gyms do, we use third party providers to manage payments etc, so we will need to make sure we correct whatever error occurred and also ensure it doesn't happen again. Regarding sketchiness, and 'trying it on', that is obviously something that we take umbrage to, you are of course entitled to your opinion, but we do our utmost to provide a great service across the board and the notion that we are trying to rip people off to make a quick buck is frankly laughable. Every system has its hiccups whether through human error or system error, and we will of course correct these errors as soon as they arise in the rare instance that they do. We wish you all the best in your fitness journey. If you would like to discuss anything at all please contact the club and the new manager Perry who’s a great lad and is really bringing that awesome sense of community and atmosphere back to the club that is so important to all of us. Positive experience: Been at this gym a few years and it is unbeatable in the area for equipment, space and parking with great classes and knowledgeable PT’s. If anything is broken it seems to get fixed quickly and you rarely have to stand around waiting for equipment. I would love to give it five stars but there’s a few things missing. They are incapable of maintaining a consistent temperament to the point I go to another gym up the road in the height of summer because it’s too hot at UG. They will tell you the air conditioning is on when it obviously isn’t. In the autumn it’s freezing to the point you need to wear two jumpers and might snap your Achilles because if it. The customer service is inconsistent. There’s three staff who are really helpful and friendly. Most of the rest either ignore you or treat you like you’re inconveniencing their day when you ask for something to the point it’s sometimes feels hostile. It’s a very gym bro vibe and I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners especially women. Lastly the woman’s changing rooms are in desperate need of an upgrade! I’m surprised it’s rated so highly tbh having experienced the customer service and atmosphere in other comparable gyms (which is much better) but I think it probably reflects the expectations and experience of it’s younger members. I’d happily come back and upgrade this to five stars if these things are fixed and I think it would be easy to do with better management.

Fantastic experience: Great equipment, friendly staff (mainly) and well positioned gym. Has plenty of deadlift platforms and squat racks so you're very rarely waiting to do your sets. Good mix of people that attend, so all ages and levels. It's the first gym that I've properly committed to so I think that speaks volumes.

Fantastic experience: Liv deserves a very special mention. I often see her going around the gym tidying and replacing equipment back where it should be. Like when a small selfish minority of people put ridiculously heavy weights on machines and then just walk off and leave them. Or take a piece of equipment from the functional zone to a far flung corner of the gym and leave it there. Liv strips the weights off so other members don't have to and puts that piece of equipment back so the next user can find it without wasting half their precious workout time searching for it. The majority of us with a conscience really appreciate it - even if we don't say it as often as we should. Forget Jack Reacher. We all need Liv, a righteous gym instructor for our troubled times!

Fantastic experience: Great gym - well equipped and plenty of space. Very clean and tidy. The staff are really friendly and helpful. I train there with my PT Livvy and have been to an early morning strength training class there. Livvy really knows her stuff, full of energy and enthusiasm making it an enjoyable experience.

Fantastic experience: I have always found gyms to be very daunting being overweight but the staff and environment at underground removed any concerns and self conscious feelings I had. I have been training her with an amazing PT at underground, Fowler Fitness, and she has really helped me understand what does and doesn’t work for my body and goals and has made me feel equipped to exercise when I’m not with her, if there are any concerns or help needed the staff are always attentive and relaxed in their approach to help anyone who needs it. Fantastic gym and would highly recommend

Fantastic experience: Love this gym!! I started training here for my bodybuilding competition back in 2022. I loved the vibe the staff and the equipment so much that.. I moved my business here and now I am a full time PT at unders!!! Trust me you won’t regret it!! Brilliant gym for all weight based training, Muay Thai, callisthenics, classes and personal training!!!

Fantastic experience: My partner and I joined the Underground gym about 1 year ago. The gym is large and can seem daunting from the outside and 1st few visits but it’s actually the most friendly and well equipped gym in the area. The staff are all very knowledgeable and friendly, always welcome you by name. There is so much equipment you will be spoilt for choice. Lots of weights, strength and weight assist machines, cardio equipment, floor space, calisthenics area, even boxing bags and a ring. Recently we have joined the early mornings circuit class, a small additional charge per month. It’s a fantastic class, every day is different and challenges you which really differentiates the Underground gym. It’s a great gym for all abilities, remember your only competition is you so join and challenge yourself.

Fantastic experience: It's the best gym I have ever used! There is so much space with all the equipment you will ever need. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the coaches are absolutely brilliant, too. On top of all this, there is a kickboxing and boxing ring with specialist coaches for a varied amount of martial arts. All in all, the perfect venue
