Depot Climbing Armley: Opinions
Fantastic experience: It is a wonderful place with very friendly and polite staff who can answer any queries. There is different climbing for all different ages and abilities, With a great gym as well. The cafe has good quality food and drinks that come quickly for a decent price. The toilets are very clean, which is hard to come by nowadays.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in the north?
Fantastic experience: This place is simply amazing. I've bought a couple of pairs of climbing shoes here and the staff are super knowledgeable and helpful rather than pushing for a sales. The setting here is very modern and comprehensive. If you're keen on steep climbing then the wooden boards are a great place to go to. The Gym here is excellent; it's never too busy and has everything you need. Finally, the café and facilities are excellent. I can work here on a laptop without being disturbed. The toilets are always clean too.
Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere. Plenty to do for all abilities. Even a 2yr old got to the top for his age range . Kids adults teenagers any form of disability give it a go . Daughter says it a adrenaline buzz . Very impressive to even watch
Fantastic experience: Great, friendly staff, super attentive, and always willing to help Delicious sweet snack suitable for vegetarians and good food menu! Also, it's a great environment for remote working:) Basic, but all you need in their gym!:)
Fantastic experience: Very modern gym with state of the art facilities, from the holds used to the problem setting to the gym. No expense spared and you can see it across all parts of the business. Large car park, great coffee and honestly, the pizza quality is not something you would expect from a bouldering gym, it’s fantastic. Ive been to every climbing gym in Leeds and I can’t see myself leaving Depot Armley for any of them
Thanks for your kind review Algren, we're really pleased you love our centre.
Positive experience: This is a great centre. There's a new wall every week and the staff who welcome you are attentive. Holds are clearly marked and cater to a variety of abilities and levels. There's a moderately priced cafe/shop. Parking is not great in the evenings
Fantastic experience: Foarte frumos
Fantastic experience: I've climbed at Manchester Depot a few times but called in here as I was in the area. Really good climbing gym with plenty to go at. Enjoyed the setting of the blacks/pinks/reds which is where I'm at right now. Good vibes and friendly locals.
Fantastic experience: Needed some shoes for my 11 yr old, phoned ahead to make sure they had some , staff assured me they had, went in staff very polite and extremely helpful. Shop was well stocked with all the best climbing gear we needed. Came out with shoes, bag and chalk and an extremely tasty chocolate brownie. My boy can’t wait to start back climbing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ my boy now been a few times he absolutely loves this place, warm welcome by staff, efficient check in, we had pizza , onion bahji burger was amazing… get ya kids down here keeps em off there PS5 and keeps em fit ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fantastic experience: I went to get some shoes. I called ahead to ask some advice, they were extremely helpful and amiable. Henry who helped me with choosing my shoes was knowledgeable and patient. I felt comfortable and was not patronised at all, when choosing my second shoe this felt very important. Very pleased with the shoe and will go back to the wall as it looked great.
Fantastic experience: This was a fantastic venue for climbing, where the staff checked me and my friend in promptly at the reception! Codes show how challenging holes generally are, I enjoyed a refreshing cheap coke and staff were approachable. The walls are very exciting, ranging in the shapes and holes being vertical or diagonal with the ability to easily challenge yourselves!
Fantastic experience: Spacious and clean. Great boulder challenges, nice coffee and a really well stocked shop for all your climbing needs.
Fantastic experience: Amazing bouldering facility. The walls, gym, cafe and shop are all top notch. Depot has all you need to get strong and fit. Friendly vibes too, the staff are helpful. Recommended
Negative experience: Bought a climbing shoes at their Scarpa demo for a friend's birthday present in May. After 4 months and several emails and phone calls later, I still don't have the shoes. All the replies have been unhelpful saying they have no updates. Worst of all exact shoes (even the size) that I ordered was sold on their website. They told me that I need to physically go to their store to cancel my order and get the deposit back. Even though I paid with my card. Horrible place to order a shoes. Would never recommend.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely adore this place, always quiet during a week when it's early which is great Can easily access the gym area
Fantastic experience: Excellent, friendly and knowledgeable staff...
Fantastic experience: Probably the best bouldering gym I have been to in the UK. Big open space, great holds selection even the easier boulders were fun. There is a gym for weight lifter on the mezzanine that could be a gym on its own considering how big it is. Wide spray wall for endurance training which is quite rare. Many spaces to park.
Fantastic experience: 1st time Fantastic, good setup, sort health and safety video fill a disclaimer form in and off you go. good family day out.
Fantastic experience: Great variety of boulder problems, training facilities and fully equipped gym. As a member I pay £36 per month and this is a bargain, as it also covers the other depot sites in Leeds within that price.
Fantastic experience: Nice route, quality holds and wall, regular reset. And nice coffee and gym also!
Positive experience: Really enjoyed this place! All the boulders use comp style holds, but at all grade levels so there was plenty at the low& mid range we could do. Loses one star due to having zero crack problems
Fantastic experience: What an awesome centre. The quality of the fit out and build is second to none. Great parking. Cafe area also great and the centre is warm enough for spectators without being too warm for climbers. Just right. Lots of easier V0-V2 problems for you get climbers as well as some really challenging harder problems. Holds are all aesthetically pleasing and the site looks stunning. Expensive holds used on even the easier problems which is great to see. My one criticism is that there is a big gulf between whites and blue/black .. not in technical difficulty but size of move ... Which isn't ideal for the shorter person and particularly kids looking to progress. My daughter has no issues with green and whites but only one blue was viable for her. She has just turned 7 and is 3'11 ... Climbs 6A/B on lead. Other than that brilliant centre and we will be back.
Fantastic experience: Climbs been updated regularly. Good range of graded climbs. Nice cafe and small shop to buy climbing clothes, books, shoes and chalk and training aids staff nice, helpful and knowledgeable.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and helpful, friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Excellent and interesting route setting across the grades. Good coffee too.
Negative experience: horrible service by the staff members wasn’t respectful whatsoever made me feel uncomfortable. Not planning on going to here again
Negative experience: The staff was very rude and they were not helpfulWe also wanted to go pray as Muslims and we wanted to return as we was told by another staff member we can but staff member Harry said we can't absolutely awful and rude never going there again.
Negative experience: Not a good area for children under 5 False advertising We called the number and were connected to the Pudsey Branch, who informed us that we could purchase a day ticket and leave the premises and return with no questions asked Harry informed us that this is not the case; we were just going to pray and return in a few minutes there said Pudsey mis advised; overall, we were not pleased. As we got to have an hour of climbing Please allow 1 hour for the paper work.
Negative experience: On website its advertised for 18month + but it was mixed with grown up climbing. Also service is poor, didn't let kids run freely. I think It should be 8+. Took a family for a kids birthday treat. The experience was really bad kids didn't enjoy it with so much restrictions.
Negative experience: Café opened at 2, couldn’t order food until 3.30. Plan your staff meetings better.
Positive experience: Good place to spend a day Little ones really like it
Fantastic experience: Absolutely brilliant bouldering centre. Top quality setting, regular resets, great range of holds at every level and loads of space. Suitable for anyone from beginners / kids right through to the best climbers in the country (it's not uncommon to see Team GB climbers there). There's also a massive gym and training areas, great coffee and pizza, good shop with a large range of shoes, space to work, baby changing and high chairs. We have a lot of climbing gyms in Leeds but this one takes top spot for me (sorry Last Sun Dance, City Bloc and Climbing Lab - love you all too).
Fantastic experience: Really interesting setting in this gym, they seem to have an abundance of competition style holds - which definitely isn’t my favourite style - but still manage to make some interesting technical stuff (would like to see more of this though). Brilliant gym upstairs with squat racks etc and loads of room. The pizza in here is amazing, thin and crispy without flopping all your toppings off, and not excessively oily; better than some supposedly top pizza places I’ve tried to be honest!!!!!!!
Fantastic experience: Great setting, friendly staff and regulars plus a gym for warm ups and workouts, who could ask for more?
Fantastic experience: Great climbing centre, big, spacious, new routes weekly, fun & weird routes, plenty of parking, good cafe, lovely staff.
Fantastic experience: Another great climbing center, very clean and well laid out. Ample parking and some very interesting routes.
Fantastic experience: Good set of problems. I'll ache tomorrow
Fantastic experience: Very nice
Fantastic experience: Fun route setting and huge facility with a good mix of climbs
Fantastic experience: Loved climbing today at the new depot centre all the climbs are so unique and even on warm up climbs they are so fun and interesting very refreshing. Would highly recommend this centre.
Fantastic experience: Great bouldering centre with a gym, cafe and shop. Really good range of boulder problems to try, including a lot of comp-style climbs
Fantastic experience: Great to see another Depot opening in the area. They have clearly utilised the lessons learnt from the other gyms in the franchise. I was initially skeptical of the wall texture as they look wooden in the pictures - they are actually textured so you can definitely step on them (unlike Last Sun Dance). The gym is about the same size or slightly smaller than Depot Sheffield. There's no dedicated "comp wall" yet but all the holds are quite modern and comp style (so all the walls are comp walls ). The grading is more on the soft side especially comparing to Depot Pudsey, but that may be down to all the holds and walls being so new there is so much friction on them. The shop has good variety of climbing shoes as well
Fantastic experience: Nice climbing gym very good atmosphere love the music choice on a Tuesday! And does the best cakes :=)
Fantastic experience: Massive open place to climb Friendly staff with lots of new routes I go most weeks
Fantastic experience: Perfect bouldering centre with a good sized gym too
Fantastic experience: Great facilities
Fantastic experience: Excellent venue
Fantastic experience: I really enjoy climbing at the depot in Pudsey and the new one in armley is even better! It's huge with great sets to climb. This is my new regular!
Fantastic experience: Super obiekt .
Positive experience: Lots of potential but not sure who its aimed at currently. An abundance of unnecessarily huge comp holds on basic problems. Early days but hopefully they’ll make better use of all that space with simpler holds amongst a scattering of blobs, more in keeping with other depots that tend to get it about right. Will check again in a month or two
Positive experience: Great gym! Personally I'm used to Boulder UK (Preston) & Depot Manchester. As other people have mentioned it is very competition orientated on the Reds and Purples. The sandpaper wall also encourages fewer foot holds and more improvisation. As the gym is quite condensed I feel most of the climbs are pushing the upper end of the setting scale in order to create a challenge. Overall, I would like to see more traditional bouldering holds, most if not all of the holds are tekkie either with dual texture or crazy shapes. As a climber who loves a good pinchy climb, I often found most were very slappy. Not my wheelhouse, but is good to develop skills outside of the general comfort zone.
Fantastic experience: New climbing wall. Lots of space and great routes for us beginners. Very welcoming.
Fantastic experience: Big climbing warehouse, personally enjoyed the route I did, v2-v4. Also a gym, with practically everything.
Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities
Fantastic experience: Amazing and huge new climbing centre, with a good variety of climbing problems, a big gym area, cafe and shop. Had a great first climb there and didn't get through half the walls!
Fantastic experience: One time I climbed up one of the Armley walls and as I crushed the last hold and the excellent beats they had dropped right on time I felt full ecstasy. The team are friendly, the gym gets me jacked, the cawston apple press is ice cold. I am a representative from an established climbing team.
Fantastic experience: Great staff super friendly. Brill gym
Fantastic experience: Very clean, great set up. Friendly and helpful staff
Fantastic experience: Lovely, clean, modern climbing gym. Lots of parking. Good array of system/circuit boards. The gym is facilities upstairs are very good, with multiple weight racks, rowing machines, treadmills. My only negative, would be the general setting is all very comp-style, which is really fun. It would be good to see some variation though. Edited to 5 stars as the setters have definitely incorporated some traditional setting amongst the comp style boulders.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and climbing wall
Fantastic experience: A much larger and more modern facility compared with the Pudsey centre. This facility is much more in line with the other depots around the country. Features a full gym and training apparatus as well as cafe and soon will serve meals
Fantastic experience: Bloody good climbing gym! It's massive with a good variety of routes and holds. Gym facilities are great as well, with running machines/rowing machines/squat racks/barbells and all sorts of good stuff. Really easy to spend a good few hours doing climbs and making use of the facilities, and there's plenty of space to rest between activities too. Didn't get chance to check out the circuit board or mood board, but they look great too.
Fantastic experience: All comp style setting, gym upstairs and was very busy at time of visit (Friday night). It's got a large amount of space and it all looks so new and clean, but the holds are new too, so will shred your skin if you're a little careless. The crowd was quite young, and appeared to have a generally high level of skill of the climbers. It's not a favourite local wall, but it's certainly unlike any other in terms of how it's climbed.
Fantastic experience: Really good new climbing wall from The Depot lot. A different experience compared to Leeds Wall and Pudsey. It's really open with plenty of floor space and routes, had the right balance between space without feeling empty. The whole place was a lot more comp style which was good fun. Ample parking too.
Fantastic experience: Great new climbing centre. A good variety of easy to difficult climbs. Equipment for the gym was still being delivered during my visit and I didn't venture up there so can't comment on that.
Fantastic experience: Really fun climbing with decent setting as you'd expect from Depot. Decent parking. Could just do with a bar
Fantastic experience: Amazing as always! Great climbs for all abilities and always welcoming younger climbers too!
Fantastic experience: A great addition to the local climbing scene, really decent setting with great gym facilities. Some douche mentioned parking....There is loads, as much as, if not more than either of the other depots, the lab, LSD or CityBloc (which are all also great climbing gyms placed across leeds and well worth a visit for anyone looking to try out bouldering)
Fantastic experience: Love these guys. I had an issue with access and and they sorted right away. Beyond expectations. Great staff and centre
Fantastic experience: A really nice new gym - great facilities including a fully kitted weights and cardio gym, good shop with plenty of climbing gear & a cafe. Really enjoyed the route setting and can’t wait to get back climbing there! Plenty of parking too. Edit: Been climbing here for a few months now, and I really love it. They reset twice a week as it’s such a big gym so there’s always something new to try. They serve pizza and panini (vegan and gluten free options) which are great. BUT, I do get annoyed that there is only one hand soap in the bathrooms, and two taps. Seems minor I know but what with all the chalk and stuff I do wash my hands regularly. Because of the positioning of the soap and taps you have to totally lean over whoever’s already washing their hands (or have someone else lean over you) to reach the soap. It’s actually kind of annoying and a bit awkward. What would solve this… putting a second dispenser on the other side next to the second tap. Promise it isn’t just my minor grievance - all the people I climb with too have mentioned it and a few in the bathroom while washing hands. I have been told it’s the same in the mens bathroom as well so can only assume the issue is the same there! Maybe pop a suggestions box on the front desk so people can leave feedback for things like this?
Fantastic experience: Fantastic facilities and set up
Fantastic experience: Amazing place, great setting
